Does anyone else think it's a shame Amy's parents only appeared once? Seriously, they could've been recurring characters in series 6. I'd have loved to have seen their reactions to the adventures Amy gets into with the Doctor. I can imagine Tabetha being a bit of a Jackie Tyler, while Augustus is more of a Wilfred Mott. Moffat, why couldn't we have had that funny family dynamic? Ah, well, as TV Tropes would say, they wasted two good characters.

Having a Family - Pond Family
"River doesn't wanna go to her grandparents' house since all their relatives are going to be there and she isn't in the mood to spend the majority of her day explaining that she was indeed family and not a friend of her parents. Thankfully her grandparents are the best and make her feel so comfortable once there, also they always have her favorite sweets in stock for whenever she visits "

notes â This is for the Candy & Family prompt. I really enjoy Doctor Who, specially any episode with River on it. Please enjoy this piece
Melody Pond, Mels Zucker or River Song⊠no matter what you know her as, she is in the end the same person, different personalities but thatâs expected when you grow specially if you had grown up like she had, all over the place. But the foundation was the same, an orphan who would do anything to be close to her family, even if that meant distancing herself from them and not acknowledging that she longed for that closeness.
Luckily for River her family also would do anything to be close to her, even if that meant tracking her throughout all fabric of space and time, and dragging her to the family reunion that she was escaping from.
Donât get her wrong all her life she had wished for these kind of things, having her parents force her to attend family functions that would be so boring, relatives asking her an infinity of questions trying to make their kids be a step ahead of her, food that might not be the best but having to pretend that it was magnificent to not hurt someoneâs feelings⊠you know the normal things that ensue having a family.
But in her fantasies her parents were really parent age, meaning that a normal gap between their ages existed, not like this were she was actually older than them and everyone would question their sanity at saying she was actually the child. She wanted a normal life were her parents raised her on their little town of Leadworth, she would still have gotten in lots of trouble at school and her mum would still have to wait outside the principalâs office and berate her for her misbehavior, but in this life her dad would be alongside her and neither of them would be wearing the same uniform as her.
At the moment it was believable that River is younger than Amy and Rory, since she had a encounter with the wrong crowd on planet ZedAndromeda98 and her body had gotten younger, but still the gap wasnât what it should be, she was only a couple of years younger than her parents.Â
She wanted to avoid unwanted attention on the gathering, but her parents had literally dragged her to her grandparents house, once she was spotted by Tabetha and Augustus there wasnât a chance to escape.
With a sigh she went to where the older Ponds were sitting and greeted them, âHello Mr and Mrs Pond, itâs a pleasure to see youâ she said extending her hand for a shake, but of course her grandparents werenât having that and let her know.
âLaddie, is that a way to greet your grandparents?â questioned Augustus grabbing Riverâs hand to pull her towards him and enveloping her between his big arms, whend he was finished hugging his granddaughter he passed her along to Tabetha.
âBobbins how you've been? You seem awfully skinny, have that hotheaded of your mom been feeding you well?â questioned Tabetha checking River from head to toe, and when she was satisfied proceeded to hug her and kiss her on the cheek, letting her go with a pat to her bum.
River was mortified at the prospect of someone seeing what had just happened, everyone would think her grandparents were weird, and most likely wouldnât invite them to any more family functions, then they would surely hate her and therefore her parents too.
Sensing the distress she was feeling, Amy grabbed her, hugging her in order to ground her and prevent an anxiety attack from River, âShh Mels, everything is okay. Nobody saw or heard anything, and even if they had you know we Ponds are stubborn and wonât let anyone bad talk youâ stated Amy rocking them from side to side.Â
âAnd us Williams donât let what anyone says about us to stop us. If we did you would not be right hereâ said Rory winking at the last part, getting a light chuckle from River and a punch on the arm from Amy, scolding him for his comment, âGosh Rory, donât say those kinds of things in front of our kid or our parents!!â.
âExactly bobbins, we donât care about anyone else, the important thing is having you and having a great time as a familyâ reassured Tabetha, getting a nod from her husband, âYeah laddie, you always be more important to us. Now Amelia how about you and Rory go and help with the foodâ.
âOkay, weâll go. Come on Mels let go help the famiâŠâ âStop there Amelia! Our ban-ogha stays here with usâ reprimanded Tabetha making her granddaughter sit between her and Augustus, preventing her parents from taking her away.
Hearing the gaelic term let River know that her grandparents were giving her permission to regress freely, they had quickly accepted the regression when they learned about it, saying they had come to terms with the confusing timeline, so this was easier to understand.
âMamaidh, me stay with seanmhair and seanair. No worryâ said River with a cheeky smile, âOkay you can stay, but promise me youâll be good Melodyâ demanded Amy, knowing that her parents loved getting on her daughter's misbehavior, letting her be her chaotic self.
âSheâs always an angel Amelia, so stop worrying and go onâ reprimanded Augustus at them insinuating that his precious Melody could do wrong. With a final âBe good for your grandparents Melodyâ and a kiss on her forehead from her dad, River was left in her grandparents care.
When they were finally occupied and out of ear range, Tabetha told Augustus to retrieve the booty, he returned with a tin lunch box and placed it in front of the little girl, âGo on laddie, open it. We know youâll like it so muchâ.
Inside were all her favorite candies, both English and Scottish ones, she was so touched since lots of them were from back when she was Mels Zucker, âCan I eats them?â asked the little girl throwing a big-eyed look at her grandparents, after the affirmative nod from them she began dig in.
There where some scottish macaroons, tunnocks teacake, edinburgh rock, jelly babies, cadbury chocolate, maltesers, and lots more; she always had a sweet tooth, but back when she lived in America as Melody, Madame Kovarian never let her eat sweets saying how she couldnât be that childish if she wanted to see her parents again.
Then came her time as Mels, Kovarian didnât have that much involvement in her new upbringing so thatâs when she got more liberty to do as she pleased, back then spending time on the Pond residence meant getting to eat anything her heart desired, since the Zuckers were also strict with her diet.Â
And once she turned into River, she was put into Stormcage to serve her time of twelve thousand life sentences, and sweets weren't exactly part of her diet there, of course, she escaped every once and then but on her trips, the opportunity to grab sweets weren't huge.
At that moment she realized that her wish had indeed come true, she had gotten to spend quality time with her family in an environment where she was acknowledged as the child of Amelia Pond and Rory Williams. She also had amazing grandparents, both Tabetha and Augustus Pond alongside Brian Williams, who were the most amazing ones, always getting in her shenanigans and spoiling her rotten.
Melody Williams-Pond was indeed a lucky girl, she had an amazing family that loved her and always reminded her of that fact, she was able to relieve moments from her past that she missed in the form of her regression. And the most important thing, all 3 of her grandparents always had a huge supply of her favorite sweets for when she visited, of course, hidden from her parents, just like a visit to your grandparents' house is supposed to be like.
So Melody⊠Mels⊠River is forever grateful for having this amazing opportunity, there are times when she wishes she had grown up like any normal kid, but she prefers this life where aliens and spaceships are part of it, where she can visit any point in time and space alongside her amazing family.

Doctor Who and mommy issues
it is little of an exaggeration to state that the first RTD era was built around the female companions' tumultuous relationships with their mothers. Jackie Tyler missing Rose but trying to accept her decisions and the new person in her life who comes with them, Francine Jones' struggle to keep her family together and safe when her daughter's seemingly drifting away from her, Sylvia Noble's harsh words towards the daughter who already hears insults from enough other places. then there's Amy's mum Tabetha, who disappears from the universe and leaves Amy with a hole in her life- eerily similar to what happens to her own daughter, Melody Pond. and River and Amy's mother-daughter connection is a whole thing by itself. there's Clara, who lost her mum and constructs stories out of it. and as Clara saves the day by imagining the days she could've had with her deceased mum, so Bill saves the day by remembering the days she had with hers.
and now there's Ruby. Ruby, who has for so long just wanted to find her mum, because her mum is the one who left her on that church doorstep, because her mum is the key to who Ruby is, where she's from, Ruby, who tells the doctor they are gonna go spend christmas with her mother and takes them to Carla and Cherry Sunday, them the three queens of the sky, Ruby who has an adoring mother who she keeps being separated from in timelines that end up abandoned. an abandoned adopted child. mother-daughter relationships defined by absence.

An Oath to Hope (Chapter 6)
Chapter 6: Dear Diary, Today I think the stars went out.
Dear Diary,
Today I told my parents that I didnât liked the sheep. They are smelly, they are loud and they annoy me. [Drawings of flowers]
Dear Diary,
Today I prepared my bag and re-told my parents that I didnât liked the sheep, I called mean auntie Sharon to ask if she was ok with me being at Leadworth with her. She said nothing. But thatâs not a no. [Drawing of Amy with orange hair inside a car passing by a sign named Leadworth]
Dear Diary,
Mom and Dad donât like the idea of letting me go to town, they say they donât mind driving me to school for hours. But I mind a lot ! I HATE THE SHEEPS !!!! [Drawings of sheep being crossed out].Â
Amelia Jessica âAmyâ Pond is a kid that would make most parent proud. Bright mind under layer of passion and anger and at the core: poetry but of course no parents would be able to describe their own children with such clarity. To them, she is a kid that never caused much trouble and was helpful at the farm and slaughterhouse that the Ponds owned. Despite her many many attempts to tell them she hated it here, or the fact that all she wanted was to leave and her tantrums. To Augustus and Tabetha Pond, all is well in the best of the world. Parenthood is a difficult thing to be, but the Ponds were not trying that hard.
Amy is small kid who rather be close to friends than isolated and she understood that very quickly: she didnât wanted to be alone and her family wasnât good enough expect the sheep, they were good but smelly. So she provoked her transfer to Leadworth, it was long and difficult, she didnât even liked her aunt. She wasnât ⊠Evil but had the special brand of Pondâs care. But in her head she will be close to school, close to friends and she wonât be alone anymore. So it was worth the argument. In the end it was the call of Sharon who begged her parents to make her stop calling her home and be done with it that changed their mind. If Amy could hear the tone of her aunt she would understand why the hell, the next day, her baggageâs were packed and she was off the Pondâs property.
The goodbye were short and curt, they told her that she could come back any time, even for tea.
The Hellos were as well, curt and short. Her aunt gave her a nod before showing an empty and bare room. Letting her installing herself on her own.
She was 9 years old.
And more maturity than her pairs.
First, she tried to go back to her parents each weekend but they never could go pick her up so she found alternative ways that required many buses. It was tiring but more than that was the fact that home was still awful. Her parents were busy, the cattle loud and her alone.
After a few weeks the going didnât make any sense anymore. She stopped, and through the daily calls it didnât seemed like they noticed her absence. But her aunt noticed her presence in the house.
âIs there nothing to keep you occupied those days ?â she said during the first holidays they had together clearly annoyed of someone being in her space during her little free time. Amelia doesnât think she answered that day but it didnât stopped her aunt to take action about it.
She hired a babysitter.
Well she hired the neighborâs kid and asked him if for a few bucks he would like to play with her Amelia. The floppy haired kid who is dressed like Sharonâs grandpa, didnât knew any better and wanted the money to do crazy and stupid stuff to his momsâ demise. He accepted and showed up the next day in front of Ameliaâs door.
Which led to a lot of screaming because one, he showed up in front of Amyâs bedroom door at 6 a.m. on a rainy Sunday where all Amyâs wished was to sleep in peace. Two, he is a weirdo. Three, he was two years younger than her.
âAunt Sharon ! What do you mean a babysitter !! He is seven ! I could be his big sister ! What the hell auntie !â
âLanguage young lady and he is your babysitter because I said so. You better not bother me anymore, I have a paper to write.â She snapped back closing the door in front of the two kids. Who awkwardly stayed still in silence before the door open again and aunt Sharon showed up, money in her hand addressing herself to kid in suspenders. âHere Alexander, watch over her would you. And you Amelia do not call me auntie again, itâs silly.â
Before the kid could answer a thanks, the door closed again with force and Alexander turned himself to Amelia who was shaking in anger.
âYou⊠You can call me auntie if you want.â He said smiling at her.
She doesnât know if it was because it was kind, or because he was the kid next door who keeps waving at her hello, but she didnât snapped back. Instead she asked him to come to the kitchen, she wanted a good breakfast and he told her that he knew the recipes for the most greatest one, his words.
The breakfast he proposed, gave the young girl fear for her and the kidâs sake. Who eats fish fingers and custard in this world ?
âAre you from this world ?â Amy asked.
âNope ! My mothers got me from somewhere else. I donât where though.â He said thoughtful before beaming up âThey told me they would tell me at my next birthday if I want ! Iâm just not sure to want to know. What if they say Iâm from the moon ?â
She smiles â Alright moon boy, what do you mean by that ?â
âIâm adopted.â
âOh !â
âBut I am totally able to babysit you ! I already know how to read already and algebra !â
âAlgebra⊠Wow. Doesnât make you able to guard me.â
âYour âauntieâ thought it does.â
Amy let out a groan before digging back to her toast.
The âbabysittingâ was meant to be for only a few days, the holidays, Amy said so, and it was nice to have someone to talk to and have fun with. Even if it a weirdo whose holiday project was to built a jiggily timey, aka a toaster that wake you with breakfast ready. It never worked but it was funny to try. Amyâs project was to write more in her diary but it was difficult with Alexander who was always requiring her time.
The holidays over, the kid kept showing up, after school showing her what he did and telling her how bored he was. He told her about nightmares he sometimes have, his stupid fear of being afraid that she couldnât see him anymore.
How could she forget such a good and wonderful boy.
He listened to Amyâs calls and offered her cake for his mom when she was sad. Gradually Amy found herself into the boyâs home more often than not. The Songs where lovely, making a place for Amyâs at each dinner, if she ever needed to crash in there. Listened to her story and displayed her drawings in the kitchen. The Ponds got quickly the knowledge of the young boy who was all over their childâs life. Â And their only reaction was to ask the size of the little one to knit him a sweater.
Also thereâs sheep named Amy in farm. Familyâs pet.
Amelia hearing the news took it very well, spreading the news with a grin.
âI got a little sister !â She says under the worried eyes of the Songs. She was hurt of course, she was hurt. She felt like she needed to be a sheep to be accepted in this crazy family. But she chose to not care to much. She was here. She was happy and she got her moon boy.
Dear Diary,
Today, Rory stayed with me all night for the studying. He stayed to read my writing. I think he liked my stories I have written. Even told me I should publish it. I think I am gonna marry this man.
She met Rory. Beautiful and smiling Rory, who wanted to help people. Wonderful and kind Rory, who despise it all was here.  Childhood was long over and she didnât even saw him, in all her weirdness. She knew in retrospect that Rory did followed her around since the beginning but ⊠She didnât saw. It didnât made her a bad person. Does it ?
Rory gave some stability, because to be honest Moon Boy was anything but stable, he gave up very early school and kept doing odds job, even introduced Amy to the job of kissogram. His house was a mess of trinkets and half assed invention and way too many times the fire alarm went on.
Rory was showing up everyday with a smile and asking the question of how she was doing. Rory was making sure she had a meal and a kiss on the cheek every day. He helped her with sending letters to different publishers for her books, helped her rewrite when needed through sleepless nights, he rewrote for her even when she gave up with his stale, matter of fact style of writing and... He didnât stopped even when he started to be a nurse.
She loved him.
Amy was blessed she thought, maybe it was the sheep, maybe it was luck.
But even as an author, she didnât think of a lot of things to say when went down on one knee showing him the ring that Alexander begged to make. He looked at her with those sweet eyes. And all she said was:
âHey wanna spend the rest of your silly life with me ?â
The gasp that moon boy made was enough for both of them to watch him being all emotional about their moment, it made her add.
âAnd him, because Alex and I we are a weird package deal.â
He only laugh before kneeling in front of her and kissing her.
I guess that was yes.

Pondlock, trope: secret relationship please!
@thequeenofhades picked Fantasy/Magic as the secondary prompt later, and I got hit with a Wholock/Shakespeare mash-up idea drawing on bits of Romeo & Juliet as well as A Midsummer NIghtâs Dream, and thus you have this. Itâs not going to follow the plot of either play completely, though thereâs going to be a lot more of the bits of AMND. But please enjoy!
A Midsummer Nightâs Escape (1/?) - For years, the Holmes family and the Ponds family have been better enemies, spilling blood in their fight to control London's magical community. But Sherlock and Amelia don't care; they only have eyes for each other. One evening the two of them, along with Sherlock's friend Margaret and Amelia's intended husband Rory, begin their escape to Wales and eventually the States to escape the violence and follow their dreams. But once they get separated in a forest controlled by the fae on their way to Leadworth, things don't go quite the way they had planned...but perhaps will be better in the end.
READ CHAPTER 1 | SERIES PAGE | HELP ME SURVIVE? | COMMISSION ME? | BUY ME A KOFI?
Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair England, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes Two pair of star-cross'd lovers risk their life; Whose misadventured piteous overthrows Do with their flight bury their parents' strife. The joyful passage of their fae-mark'd love, And the final end of their parents' rage, Which, but their children's plans, nought could remove, Is now the two hours' traffic of our stage; The which if you with patient ears attend, What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.
It was nighttime. Perfect. His powers were always stronger at night, for some reason. He doubted his tutors would approve of how he was currently using his powers, as they were all for the Holmes family and vehemently against the Ponds, but he didnât care.
Amelia...he loved the only daughter of Tabetha and Augustus Pond, much as his friends did their best to talk him out of it. She was below his station, they said. He was from a family of Lords and Ladies, though the title would go to his brother and well it should. He had no interest in it. His interest lay in the sciences, a blasphemous decision for those with power.
And Amelia, his ginger-headed love.
They had met during a masquerade dance that a local pub had put on, only to have it ruined by members of their families and their associates. But the two had run off together, ducking into alleys and dashing into a cab and going far away to where they felt safe, on the outskirts of the city, in a small village called Leadworth.
There had been conversations, long, rambling but joyous conversations. And kisses, sweet sweet kisses that still made his head spin. The landlady of the inn, Mrs. Hudson, and his friend Lestrade, who whisked her back the next day, had said he was in love. Love at first sight, love at first conversation, love at first kiss? Yes, perhaps he was in love.
But John and others said to stay away, the Ponds had power, but still. He loved her.
And as he saw her take a furtive glance back towards her familyâs London home, she loved him.
He finished the cig and put it out, careful not to leave the filter behind that it might be used against him. The ash was minute; he didnât imagine after the weather magic Amelia was so adept at there would be a trace of him there.
She came to him and framed his face, giving him a fleeting but intense kiss. âHas she made the arrangements?â Amelia asked.
He nodded. âMolly is in the cellar, ready to go. She can lead us through the forest. Once we arrive in Wales, weâll get married, then be off to the States.â
It was her turn to nod, a wide smile on her face. âGood, because I brought someone with me.â
He groaned as he saw the tall man come closer from the shadows. âNot Williams.â
âMy mum and dad want him to marry me and he wants to be a healer. They wonât hear of it, saying he needs to go into politics if he marries me. They raised us together, they think they own us. But they donât.â
âAt least Molly will be happy,â he said with a sigh as Rory got closer. He nodded, holding Ameliaâs hands in his. âWilliams.â
âHolmes,â Rory said with a nod.
âYou know the plan?â he asked the other man.
Rory nodded. âWe get out, go to Wales, the two of you get married and then we head to the States.â
âMolly Hooper is with us,â Amelia said. âI know sheâs a necromancer, but...â
âNo, no, if she can get us out from under their thumb, Iâll take any help I can get.â Rory nodded to a spot over Sherlockâs right shoulder. âI think sheâs calling for us.â
âCal upon a storm, Amelia. Thatâs your end of all this,â Sherlock said. âWeâll make do of Williamsâs healing powers if needed, I suppose, and Molly can get us around the fae as long as we stay together.â
âOne storm, coming up,â Amelia said, and her eyes became white as the night sky got darker, the moon and stars being blotted out by heavy rain clouds. Soon the water was coming down and the three of them made their way to Molly, who hurriedly got them inside the pub. No one paid attention to them, thanks to magic Sherlock had mastered long ago, and soon they were in the cellar, looking at a trapdoor.
âDonât speak to the dead,â Molly said. âEat nothing except what you brought when we get to the forest. Once weâre through the forest and in Leadworth, we can get supplies again. But be very careful.â
âYou donât mind Williams joining us?â Sherlock asked, knowing where her heart lay.
Molly shook her head. âYour healing skills are shite, Sherlock, and mine are subpar. Rory is good at what he does and weâll maybe need him. He wants freedom, weâll help him get it.â
âGood,â Rory said. âThank you, Molly. I appreciate it.â
She flashed Rory a warm smile. âYouâre welcome. Now, weâve got to go through catacombs so stay silent. The dead may try and take you if they think youâre speaking to them.â She opened the trapdoor and went down the stairs first, followed by Rory and then Amelia, and finally Sherlock, who shut it behind him. He hoped this mad scramble out of London would end well, and not in the deaths of them all.

Red Hair and Bowties
by tardisthetrain
When Amelia Pond sees a man walking down her street in a bow-tie, she thinks she's lost her mind.
Years since she left the TARDIS, (or rather, since the TARDIS left her) Amy has long since given up on trying to find her Raggedy Man. She's moved on with her life. She adjusted to having a job, a mortgage, neighbors... a son. She's managed on her own for four years. The Doctor's barely been gone for a week - he thinks - and this Amy is not the Amy he really knew anymore, the Amy he loved. The Doctor just wants his friend back. Amy wants to forgive him. They both want answers, but neither of them really know what to say.
