i made a post a few weeks ago about oppenheimer and how it's appalling that indigenous people were neither consulted nor mentioned in the film when they and other BIPOC folk in new mexico specifically have been dealing with the most consequences of nuclear testing in the US in the 60 years since. and ever since i've been looking for a good resource to synthesize all the shit that was done to mexicano / latine / indigenous peoples of the southwest thanks to the nuclear bomb and nuclear testing.
i found it. and honestly i should have looked here earlier.
the red nation podcast is a podcast run by nick estes, an assistant professor at the university of minnesota, a journalist, and an environmental activist from lower brule nation in south dakota. nick is not on this episode; instead it is his co-host jen marley interviewing beata tsosie-pena, a santa clara pueblo and el rito birth worker and traditional midwife, and tina cordova, a founder of the tularosa basin downwinders consortium, an organization seeking to spread awareness and gain reparations for unknowing survivors of the trinity tests in 1945.
together in a 90 minute deep dive episode, jen, beata, and tina do a deep dive on the impact of the nuclear testing not just on the american southwest but the entirety of the united states, the ways that the oppenheimer film erased oppenheimer's culpability in choosing when and how to test and use the bombs, the way the federal government has never offered any compensation to those victimized by the bomb's testing in new mexico, and the ongoing fight to pressure the us government to acknowledge the damage and offer some form of assistance and reparations in cleaning up the sites and getting medical treatment for the people who are to this day dealing with side effects of the testing.

I wanted to share some more information on TRN for those who are wondering!
TRN is very based on the religious as above so below. (Search up as above so below religion to find out more about the as above so below) but it is slightly different. Heaven in TRN is as above. Hell in TRN is so below. Our main character has a lot to do with this religion and it will create a lot of the plot.
TRN will contain gore and very disturbing scenes. I will make another post saying the trigger warnings for TRN.
TRN will most likely be a animated series with a pilot episode and a podcast. I will also be cosplaying a lot of the characters to on my TikTok account ace.0f.spades0. Our voice actors may not be 100 % accurate to the canon voices so please be kind to us we are really trying to put this together. We also use Gacha life 2 to make TRN stuff since animation is hard!
The official 1 year of TRN will be on May 23rd 2024!
I will make a post talking about the boundaries of TRN!
Thank you so much for reading this. Me and my friends put a lot of work into this and we can’t wait for this to come out to the public!

Introducing "The Retro Resurgence Podcast"
Hello Everyone. Ken and myself, Chad, who joined the TRN Patreon around the same time back a few years ago, got the itch to do some podcasting and want to introduce everyone to the trailer for our new podcast, The Retro Resurgence! There’s about a 9 year age gap between Ken and me, so our memories and recollections should cover a wide range of years of the 80’s and 90’s – which we feel is right in…

There’s a really good interview with Kali Simmons (an Oglala Lakota literary critic & professor of Indigenous Nation Studies at Portland State University) on the topic too:
wonder if someone has written academic text on folk horror from an indigenous perspective

First post:
There is nothing funnier than the tumbler introduction on the Apple App Store: “Welcome to weird, fandom art chaos hellsite” 😂😂
Anyway; my sister (who is a true blue millennial) has been telling me about Tumbler for about a decade and I never felt the need to even start an account, which is short sited of me since its format enables the user to pretend that it’s twitter, instagram and facebook all wrapped into one. Instead; I wasted my time trying to figure out the actual hellsite; Wordpress. In summary; this is my official apology to my baby sister; I should have listened to her sooner.
I was comfortable on twitter for years, because “microblogging” is easy and convenient; especially with my podcast collecting dust and cobwebs for almost a year (I am sorry, kids). But after Apartheid Clyde has taken over and proceeded to run the site to the ground (it is funny to witness but I will be sad if it goes to shit and I lose contact with the many friends I made there); it is time to find an alternative outlet for my thoughts and rants. And follow the tag #TRN
If you’re from twitter; say hello and tell me your @ there.

that whole about making the dsmp an org i think comes from the fact that (besides them seeing it as a money grab) they dont realize everyone on that server are like. actual friends with each other. not to say that other orgs arent friends with each other but like almost every single person added to the server was friends with or already knew someone on it and if they didnt, are friends with everyone now, and i straight up think trn and the others just cannot for the life of them get that fact into their heads.
oh yeah given train didn’t even know dream and sapnap lived together, i wouldn’t doubt that the crowd on the podcast also just flat out doesn’t realize that the dsmp is a bunch of friends first and foremost. on top of that, the other big servers that have started in this current era (smp live, smp earth, epic smp) have had lineups that included separate friend groups (lunch club and team chunk error, the various countries, misfits, etc for each), but not one large overarching friend group to hold it all together and keep the more relaxed setting that dream smp manages to maintain.
the dream smp was founded solely because dream and george wanted to play minecraft together, and they just kept adding new people as they went. they started with close friends (the original 8), and branched out from there to people they knew a bit (sbi), and then to people that dream didn’t know well yet, but thought were talented and more importantly: thought they would fit in well with the rest of the server. the smp having natural chemistry has always been the main draw of it, and it shows in the best ways. i really do think that the cast of the podcast just doesn’t know that
some people didn’t really know the other smp members personally yet (like ranboo), but they were added specifically bc they were good at what they do and because dream felt they would mesh well into the group. but most (like sbi, mmc, hannah) did already know someone there, and was already actual friends with them, and it works so well for the entire server
(obviously i also definitely think a lot/most of it comes from them just talking purely hypotheticals for the sake of talking, but not realizing how rude it could come across)
i also think it’s possible that train is (intentionally or not) using his own experiences with nopixel (the gta rp server that he was permabanned from) as a basis to evaluate the dream smp, which are two very different communities that aren’t really that similar beyond “these both have ccs and they roleplay in a video game.” the atmospheres are entirely different and i don’t think he realizes that the dream smp is far more casual, despite its popularity and roleplay
#i think people who aren’t in dsmp circles tend to see it and assume it’s similar to past ‘teams’ (the ones above but also ones like crafted)#and that’s just Not The Case#ask#anon#ALSO#ur good anon#i don’t rlly care for train bc i ONLY see him on scuffed when dream is there lmao#like. one way or the other#he just sure is a person !!#so ur good lol dw i didn’t think u were defending him or whatever bc like ur right lol i REALLY think he doesn’t know this stuff

VHS Collecting: A Visual Guide To Retro Home Media
VHS Collecting: A Visual Guide To Retro Home Media
Recently on The Retro Network I participated in an awesome TRN Talk: VHS Collecting podcast discussing the art of VHS collecting with Jason (@RD80s) and the always enthusiastic Chad Young from the Horror Movie BBQ (@HorrorMovieBBQ). Since podcasting is an audio medium, I thought I would provide a companion piece in the form of a visual guide to VHS collecting. What follows is an exploration of…
