Small personal vent that’s going here only because it’s now too late on the east coast to call someone…

It really sucks to watch your partner fail to get things that they reallllly want and have worked really hard for. This isn’t about anything life or death or even a fraction of that*, but it’s super important to him and there’s nothing I can do to lessen his disappointment and that’s frustrating.

*My husband is one of the best amateur baseball players in the DC metro region. That’s not just my opinion or his boasting; he was elected to the Hall of Fame of DC’s biggest wood bat baseball league. He’s had an amazing baseball career, up to and including now, when he plays against much younger guys and still makes the all star team every year. But he’s never won a league championship and he desperately wants it. Not in a hyper competitive way, but just in a “heart set on it” kind of way. And they had a chance to win it tonight and were leading for most of the game and then just…nope. And he’s so sad. Ugh.

Oh, this one.

Nothing wrong with it. I was ambitious with creating a scene and using watercolor! IRL, it looks pretty cool.

Should have known I was in for a ride when the tape used to keep it flat ripped the paper. Thankfully, it was in a place I could tastefully crop and nothing of value would be lost (except when I see it irl and weep)

And then… it came time to digitize it.

Normally, scanner is the way I go. Lay it on the glass, scan it in, make some adjustments to make it look pretty, done.

Except that this is watercolor. And despite my best efforts to make it flat (weeps in tape ripping the paper), it still warped the slightest bit. Enough that it was noticeable on the scan. Tried every trick I know to make it look presentable.

It absolutely refused to look decent.

So, decide to try a different method, phone camera. Not a huge fan of this method cause I don't have the best lighting in my room. Most pics I take in here turn out so warm compared to when I scan stuff.

Was gonna take one for the team and take a pic despite the warmness of my phone. At least the image wouldn't look as warped as it did on the scanner.

Except that the image was cool colored. Like, it had a blue tinge instead of the regular yellow tinge and the lineart looked so faded.

Now I was color balancing to make the lines clearer and to tone down the blue. So many overlay and multiply layers. I think there was a saturation layer on there too make the colors brighter.

So, that's what resulted above. Bc Artist!Krys is Tired and Done™.

It was still a fun little piece if a little nerve-wracking to get digitized. Hopefully, I'll have less problems when Watercolor Month starts next month now that I've had this trial run.

I wish i didn't get into Magic The Gathering when i did or at all because I learned the Day and Night mechanic and love werewolves and innistrad, but the day and night mechanic is exclusive to that one single innistrad set and werewolves have no narrative existence outside of innistrad but the MtG lore says there is ANOTHER monster/horror themed land and now that planes walkers don't have their sparks and all the planes have been connected normal people can just show up this should mean there werewolves will come back but NO! the big bad of crimson vow and midnight hunt have been defeated! the previous bad guys were defeated in the story that made everything connected! innistrad is so irrelevant there isn't ANYTHING to visit there so why would anyone go there again?
