the way nikeya is a “flower grown for court” but dumai wants nothing more than to get away from there, how it ends with nikeya on the throne and her essentially taking over dumai’s role/rejected duty as the ruler of seiiki and having to bear the burden of continuing the bloodline in dumai’s stead. how dumai’s name (“an ancient word for a dream that ends too soon”) is symbolic and foreshadowing. (the dream as her literal dream connection to glorian, as the sterren in her, as her connection to the gods/dragons, as her life (both in general and the life she had on mount ipyeda)). the way dumai takes back her life and becomes maiden officiant, the thing she always dreamed of being. dumai of ipyeda became noziken pa dumai, but she finally becomes dumai of ipyeda again. I fear I’m losing my mind

in the show there's this thing were if a character looks back to someone while they're leaving it means they have a crush on them. so they had a scene were tj looked back towards were buffy was, but then it was revealed he was gay and in love with buffy's best friend who was standing right next to her in that scene enemies to friends were tj is redeemed through the power of gay love towards buffy's best friend

they were really cute together and all their flirty build up actually had me, a known dyke, kind of rooting for them and then halfway through the show right in what's about to be a makeout scene they reveal he's gay lmfao. then they sleep together (platonically on different side of the covers) in his houseboat. iconic and i'm not mad about it but it was SO clearly calibrated to be straightbait and switch it was so funny like the cameras were WORKING for those lingering shots

ellie chu and paul munsky:

Classic set-up where they start off as strangers and become really close. He even has a crush on her! note: ellie is canonically a lesbian, so there's also a bait and switch element to this one

joseph cooper and amelia brand:

These two are explicitly set up as the male and female leads of the movie and shown to have a close relationship with each other, one where in any other movie I would have expected them to end up together by the end of the movie, especially since one of the central themes of Interstellar is love as a force that can change the universe. However, the two do not get together by the end of the movie and there is never any explicitly romantic scene between them.

travis touchdown and sylvia christel:

in the first game travis spends the entire game trying to get with sylvia (HE FAILS MISERABLY) and inbetween the sequel and the spin-off they get married, have kids, you know the drill HOWEVER COMMA in that same period of time travis runs away from said family and later moves in with a man. So.

“Ah, got it” Ellis hummed – a quip of which he could resonate with entirely. His entire career, or lack thereof was built on ‘not friends, but an associate’. Hell, his entire marriage was built on that. “I suppose I could say the same, not sure our host would agree, though.” 

His lips twitched and his finger tapped against the side of the glass, “how’s that working out for you? – being Switzerland, I mean” glancing around towards their surroundings, he could practically reach out and squeeze the tension in the room. Returning his attentions to TJ, he taunted “you might not want to say that so loudly, you might start picking up the blame.”

There was a motive, there was always a motive; especially when a social gathering was involved. They just had to work out what the hell that was. "So, which side's your money on?" The united front was too forced and he just wasn't buying it.

"Friends." He tried his damndest to not laugh at the suggestion. Still, when Klaus had compelled him, he hadn't put 'friends' into the contract, so he was relatively safe in admitting that was not the case. "Not friends, but an associate." What the word should be was now mortal enemies, but it would give away the fact he was not under Klaus' compulsion.

Still deluding Klaus into thinking that he was on his side, his 'job' was to keep close to Laine, but it was too bad for Klaus since TJ preferred Laine if he was going to pick a bestie out of the two of them. No. He preferred the Laine that wanted to kill Klaus, not the one currently shaking hands with him.

"Or maybe I'm Switzerland keeping the peace - all of this couldn't happen without me." He had been the one to set the meeting for Laine and Klaus to begin with, and whilst he was the chess piece being used by Klaus' orders and Laine's laws, something he did was for good, for the sake of everyone... maybe.

Joel learning that Ellie likes girls and having the classic awkward Dad-Ally talk of “I love and support you no matter who you love.” and she wants nothing more than the conversation to fucking end.

"... Pretty boy?" he immediately mumbled out, he was never impressed when others labeled him in such a manner. The use of 'boom' was slightly entertaining to him, but a brow was raised when ovaries and the heart were mentioned in between.

"My name is Blade, not pretty boy." he would first correct the other, a short shake of his head in response "No, I have never been 'chomped' on... I usually do the biting. The solution to protecting your heart and... ovaries... seems to be for me not to bite you, correct?" Blade tilted his head subtly, he knew those parts of a woman weren't that fragile but he didn't know how else to handle the situation.

Oh,  so  he  was  the  ‘himbo’  type…  But  that  face  made  up  for  a  lot.  There  was  nothing  more  divine—and  devastating—than  a  beautiful  person!  Her  soul  wasn’t  built  to  withstand  it.

“You  don’t  understand  the  power  being  bitten  has,  do  you,  pretty  boy?  You  ever  been  chomped  on?”  Ellie  gestured  emphatically.  “Ovaries,  boom.  Heart,  boom.  It’s  dangerous!”
