I’m still stuck on this moment right here.

Wine had been desperately looking for Faifa — knowing something was wrong and frantic to find him so he could help.

In the moment before this, when Wine asks “what’s wrong?” He looks relieved to have Faifa in his arms.

But then Faifa says this, and suddenly Wine’s soul is crushed.

This whole episode, but especially the last few scenes, highlight just how passive and broken Faifa’s self esteem is — he has no confidence in Wine picking him. Not because he doesn’t trust Wine cares for him, but because Faifa is certain that everyone will leave him. Why would Wine pick him, when Tor is finally within his grasp? His mother only kept him until she had a new family, then Faifa was cast aside. Yotha cast him aside when Gun entered his life (which, to be clear, Faifa helped him do and doesn’t blame him for). So why would Wine stay when he now has options.

This moment crushes Wine because it shows him just how little Faifa believes he can be loved — wanted — cared for — chosen. It shows Wine that he’s not pouring affection into a nearly full bucket, but into an empty one with rusted spots threatening to break.

I think this moment cements Wine’s resolve — not just to confess and admit his feelings, but to go above and beyond to show Faifa that he loves him unconditionally.

That’s where this moment stems from;

Wine wants nothing more than to make sure Faifa knows he’s loved.

I think one of the funniest things to come out of the Sonic franchise in the last 15 years is the visible tug-of-war between Sega mandating Shadow should always be an arrogant prick - to Sonic especially - and various writers trying to make it work with his established characterization despite being vaguely OOC

so a lot of the time he just comes off like a judgmental parent trying to dissuade his adult son from becoming a podcaster or a streamer or whatever so he can have a stable, honest career as an accountant like his old man. like he cares about him and he wants to connect with him on some level, but if Sonic doesn't get his act together soon, his fail ass is out of the will for good this time

all the funnier because despite being immortal, Shadow himself is clearly coded as mid-to-late teens himself and Shadow Generations reveals he was like this with Maria as well, barely 2 minutes out the test tube, this is just how he talks
