i want to go watch it again so i can refresh my memory and overanalyze the shit out of it but i saw some rando complaining about the pointless confusing music numbers at the club, and i was like okay one yuo're are stopid and your heart lacks whimsy, but secondly it's a clear example of the unreliable narrator at play. because i remember maddy talking about the double act at the [standin for the bronze] as being a thing in the pink opaque, but it's clearly a place that exists in reality as owen knows it, which is a big whammy sized hint at everything owen and maddy were bonding over being things THEY were doing together, which owen then projected onto the pink opaque to make it safe and acceptable. it's a reveal that makes maddy's extremely polar emotional intensity make sense in retrospect too because while owen is claiming to the audience that they only hung out twice, there being multiple secret increasingly emotionally intimate meetings between them makes it clear WHY maddie thought owen would drop everything and leave town.
