It is so annoying when a poll is like ”do you recognize this character/story/show/movie?” and it’s one that is well known pretty much everywhere EXCEPT for in North America. And because it is specifically not known there, the ”never heard of it” is the option that is leading.

The only fun thing is when something that only-american is the one they ask if people recognize on the poll, and everyone not from there has gone there first and made ”never heard of it” lead. It doesn’t always happen but when it does you’re like ”hehe >:3”

Once in high school I went to a Bruce Springsteen concert and it was a hot summer evening so the bugs were out in force and this one tenacious cicada flew right into Bruce’s face and bounced off onto the floor in front of him and he bent down to pick it up and held it out in front of the crowd and he said “all right, okay, I don’t want to cast aspersions on your local wildlife here, but North Carolina, can somebody please tell me—what the FUCK is this space-alien-lookin thing?” and a reporter took a picture and that was the image they used in the paper the next day: Bruce Springsteen looking perplexed while holding a concussed cicada

so yeah that’s my favorite bug, it was that specific cicada

Wasteland baby! is the most under appreciated of the Hozier albums and truly what an album to be released just before the pandemic what a song to release before the pandemic. During an uncertain time an album about not being alone in a wasteland the way most of the songs are about devotion, to the point of fault, to the point of personal harm, to the point of manipulation, about doing everything to be with this person even when it's detrimental to you both or even when it's a person you've made up in your head, in a year when we couldn’t go out and see each other. Hozier releases an album that puts the yearning for love in the loneliness of the pandemic into words a full year before the pandemic even happened and we don’t even really talk about it and that should be a crime.
