yo, if your still doing game of chance, what are the challenges like? like,,,any specific challenges that are particularly gorey? 👀

I tried my best to explain some particularly COMMON challenges, but I think I should probably say the more GOREY ones then!!

Pitfall: Contestants are moved onto an enclosed minefield that has hidden spike pits AND mines on it. Whoever survives moves on. If there are too many that survive, they'll play a mini-challenge where Corvid [and a few guards] attempt to cut it down to the amount they need by shooting them. The contestants have to run around or hide to avoid getting shot, which can result in more pit and mine casualties.

Final Corkscrew and Claw Your Way Out were already explained in the post about.. everything.

Intrepid: Contestants vote on a number from 1-10, 1 being lowest difficulty and 10 being highest. This will determine how tough the challenge is. The higher the difficulty, the less people who get out alive, and so there's less challenges they'll have to do overall. 1-# are all different versions of the games they did before, but 10 will always be this horrible game. ⅔s of the contestants will be tied up, with 1 non-tied contestant being put with 2 tied ones. The goal is for the non-tied contestants to cut open the bodies of the two contestants and sift around for a key. Only one of them has a key inside them, just to make it worse if you pick the wrong one.

I will answer with four wips because I'm a quirked-up white boy, so we will be rocking with To The End, Realm of Mirrors, The Garden of Corpses, and A Guardian's Tale.

Let's go !

What is the main lesson of your story ?

Unsure if these count as lessons, but they are definitely messages I want to convey;

TTE - Love conquers all. If there is love, no matter the shape it may take, then you will prevail.

Has been done several times before, and here I am doing it again. But love is central to this story, the story wouldn't happen if there weren't any love, and there would be no reason to fight if there weren't any love. It's quite literally risking it all for love

RoM - Becoming an adult is unfair. You will lose parts of yourself, you will lose people you love. Everyone expects everything from you and no one will help you. You're thrown in, wholly unprepared and unequipped, and god forbid you make a mistake.

Not a feel-good story, so the message is going to be bitter to swallow. I also want that whole 'childhood spark being extinguished' to be so crushing that when you put the final book down you're just a husk of a person lmao

AGT - It's worth it. You, your loved ones, the things you love, it's all worth it.

These kids go through hell and honestly, I wouldn't blame either one of them if they just decided they didn't want to fight anymore. But they don't.

"Well, obviously they won't," I hear you say, "They must protect the world and all that." EXACTLY ! BECAUSE THE WORLD IS WORTH PROTECTING !

Because despite the hell they go through, they also experience heaven just as much if not more. They keep fighting because there is something worth fighting for. Playing video games, creating art, laughing with your friends, media analysis, getting competitive in sports, holding hands, eating food you made yourself, skinny dipping during sunsets, watching the seasons change, telling someone 'I love you'. It's worth it.

TGoC - This one is harder to define like the others, but essentially it's that you, as an outsider, can't dictate a group's customs and traditions.

What I mean with that is that outsiders often lack the context necessary to properly understand why certain people do certain things in certain ways. And instead of seeking out said context they'll fill in the blanks with what they already know and come to conclusions which are more often than not biased against the people in question. A good example of this is kink, wherein people will make assumptions as to why people might find certain things arousing and those assumptions almost always leading back to trauma or the person being broken in some way.

I hope that made sense, it does to me but it's tricky to put in words lol

What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding ?

I don't really know...

I think it's mostly me in magpie mode going 'ooooo shiny' at anything I think is cool and then working it out from there. Great example of this is TGoC which started with 'Oh cottagegore is very neat' and then evolved from there with the human body, rot and decay, "You can't kill me in a way that matters", norse mythology, etc. That last part is actually where the whole 'the world is a corpse' thing comes from.

When it comes to TTE I remember being heavily influenced by phrases like 'the fabric the universe', 'strings of fate', and 'timeline' when I was working on the Keepers and how they rule over time and reality.

So yeah. Magpie brain and a whole bunch of 'wouldn't it be cool if...?'s

What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them ? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, or help the reader grow as a person ?

I'm gonna keep this more overarching because I don't think anyone here has the time to go in depth with 24 characters lol.

For To The End it's about wanting to get out, not only in terms of the time loop but also in breaking away from unhealthy mindsets and abusive parents, and in healing from trauma. Break the circle and move on kinda deal.

Realm of Mirrors deals with the concept of not wanting to let go, if that makes sense. The whole story begins with Emil moving back to Grimmvik because he felt he left too soon. He grew up too soon. It's a lot of keeping ones inner child alive, only for said child to be violently ripped from you and no matter how much you try you can't save it. Welcome to adulthood, idiot !

When it comes to the Guardians it straight-up boils down to just, wanting to live. To heal, fall in love, experience pleasure, create, you name it. At the end of the day, these guys are just kids, and that doesn't really change even when faced with the revelation that they're not fully human. They just want to get through the bullshit so that they can live.

Finally, The Garden of Corpses, which is rocking with reclamation and discovery; restoring the art of necromancy, becoming comfortable in ones own skin, falling in love, all that good stuff.

How many chapters is your story going to have ?

No idea lol. It isn't until I've finished the first draft that I have an estimation of how many chapters a story is going to have (because I focus more on the acts rather than chapters when writing drafts 0 and 1, if that makes sense), and then that number might change in later drafts.

For example, draft 2 of To The End had around 27 chapters, whereas draft 3 is rocking with 38

Is it fanfiction or original content ? Where do you plan to post it ?

Original. My dream is to publish, but I'm not opposed to posting it online on ao3 or a personal website

When did you start writing ?

I've talked before about how I've been writing since before I could even write, and that's basically where it started. I've always enjoyed making worlds and coming up with stories within them, and when I was a kid I used to go on walks and just visualize these stories.

This did raise concerns with teachers because they thought I was being left out when I was, in fact, having the time of my life lhbrgljbadh

Do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr ? What other writers do you follow ?

Be bad at it and have fun.

Like with every other skill, no one is good at writing from the get-go and you're shooting yourself in the foot if you think otherwise. Accept the fact that you're going to suck and then work to get better. And if you're not having fun, if there are never any moments during the writing process where you feel like you could fight god and easily win, then writing is probably not for you.

As for how many other writers I follow, not enough lol

I've been getting whiplash going from The Divine to TGoC; I figured out how to transition from the Eclipse arc to the Gems of the Crowns Arc, changed Freddie's name to Isak, established the death order of the Lumens, nailed down the plot for the first two TGoC books, adjusted the solo attacks for the champion forms, discovered that Nils' love languages are physical touch and quality time.

Yeah we've been on a roll !

As for real life my dad is taking me to Ikea to buy a shelf next week :>
