#System on Modules

i was reading dect like any ultrakill fan would but then i had a question in mind
i might be thinking too hard into it, but what would those parts be named? do they already have names? or were they randomly labled for the story?
they absolutely have names; they're all FANUC industrial machine part numbers!
#ask#DECT#id in alt#not many of these parts would actually fit in V2's system since they're meant to be used in large cabinets of interconnected modules-#-but they ARE real parts and versions of them would definitely be in its body somewhere

so murderbot assumes that three offered its armor because it doesn't understand that the armor can belong to it and thinks mb taking the armor is just good resource allocation.
but if it assumes it doesnt have control over the armor, it would probably let whoever it sees as in charge (maybe ART?) handle it, or at least make the suggestion directly to that person. even newly freed in NE, it's willing to give its security advice (on hostage situations being undesirable) even if it doesn't expect to be taken seriously. it doesn't make sense to me that it would have so much trouble expressing the offer if it were just a security suggestion.
and then i think about how murderbot says later in the book that even if three felt fondly toward its fellow SecUnits, the govmod would prevent it from expressing that care or knowing it was returned.
so-- imagine you're three, and you havent yet internalized that you can just say "i care about you and dont want you to get hurt" to another SecUnit; but you can make sure that it has every resource it might need; you could probably do that even before the govmod was hacked.
you can't explain why, but you can hope that the gesture is explanation enough, and you can look for similar caretaking gestures in return; things like being given code and advice to do your job better, and being reassured when you express that you're finding said job difficult.
i think *murderbot* isn't aware of this language of care, because it hasnt had much opportunity to bond with other constructs. but three probably is, and probably knows how to read between the lines and guess that murderbot is starting to care about it, too.
#system collapse#system collapse spoilers#murderbot spoilers#the murderbot diaries#secunit three#maybe this is obvious#but i just got really caught on that bit abt 3 not being able to know if its feelings were returned#bc on the one hand its a really heartbreaking example of how fucked up the governor module is#but it also feels like a bit too much of an absolute#if mb could write a hack of the govmod surely three + its fellows could do a few unnecessary but kind things for each other#its just that they could never *confirm*#still hellish but not the total isolation mb seems to imagine#murderbot diaries

rip secunit 3 😔😔😔 you're not dead but you would have loved saving the lives of a whole colony of innocent humans by making a factually honest and emotionally compelling documentary 😔😔😔
#thinking about system collapse chapter 7 again. as one does#and so much of murderbots epiphany about media#is based on it finally unpacking and understanding exactly what 2.0 did and why it worked so well for three#mb watching sanctuary moon right after hacking its governor module -> mb enjoying kinda shlocky “good type of unrealistic” media#🤝#three viewing the helpme.file as it hacks its governor module -> threes appreciation for nonfiction media#im the pepe silvia meme rn#its all connected. what im saying is three is set up to become a documentary fanatic and i love that for it#i hope it gets to make a documentary someday.#the murderbot diaries#murderbot#secunit 3#system collapse

The Silt Verses RPG is climbing the charts. All it needs to beat is Chains of Asmodeus, a WotC dnd module. No big deal.

"Do you know where we are going next?" I asked ART.
Y'know what, I think maybe I don't need any more Murderbot books. I think maybe ending things here is fucking perfect and as much as I love Wells's writing I'm genuinely not sure it can get better for me.
Like, so much of the books are about MB learning how to be a person, about becoming okay with being a complete individual with everything it entails. The first thing it does once it's actually allowed to decide on its own is it runs away from it all (admittedly to go on a mission to confirm some things about its past, because it genuinely just wants to be *good*). It shoves all its emotions away as much as it's able to. Then shit happens, and it makes its first friends, makes decisions based on these friendships, goes through a lot of emotionally intense situations...
And we get to this point here. MB having zero doubts about going with ART says a lot about its relationship with ART, but it also says a lot about its relationship with its humans - it knows that wherever it goes, when it comes back, the humans will still be there. Its humans actively acknowledge its struggles with being a now-free SecUnit and MB is willing to entertain the discussions to an extent and share information about its deeply personal experiences. Hell, System Collapse ends with MB admitting it might be somewhat broken, but that's okay as long as it can keep doing its job, and agreeing to basically do counselling - this is the guy what would rewatch its favourite TV show again and again in order to avoid acknowledging it even had Emotions a couple books back.
Reading this, I know that MB will be okay. It has hopes and goals and genuinely believes in itself and it has an amazing support system that its willing to lean on for the first time in its life. I'm convinced it'll go on to do great things with ART. And that's really the only thing I need to know.
#Murderbot#murderbot diaries#tmbd#system collapse#Herr's personal tag#Also like. System collapse dives deep into MB's feelings about its life as secunit prior to the events of all systems red#I find this conversation from when they were discussing what would happen if the BE folks got to the colonists first /very/ telling#MB going on about how life as a corporate slave is absolute fucking hell#ART drone saying that they can't just kill people because the alternative is worse than death#ART: would it have been kinder to kill you before you'd disabled your governor module?#MB with zero fucking hesitation: /yes/#(followed by my favourite ART line ever. “You know I am not kind.”)#Like. MB would not have always admitted that it had hated its life as a secunit this openly#Saying it was shit is one thing saying I would rather be dead than think of me or anyone else going through this again is a very different#And here it has zero issues stating that. At least when talking to ART#And then later on it goes on to offer its actual memories for a publicly screened documentary#Because it knows it's the only way to make people see. The only way to save then from the same (ish) fate#And it's willing to do whatever it takes to save these people it's never even met before from what it views as fate worse than death#Including opening up and acknowledging its past experiences and past/current feelings#And I'm just like. Man I couldn't be more proud of you if I tried.#You go MB. Holy fuck I wish I could do what you've done. You might just be the person to defeat this evil capitalism my dude

I wonder what would happen if the Maestro from Doctor Who, who is music incarnate, knew about microtones. Like, if they saw this—
would they explode.
#no but seriously#doc may have flubbed the last note of the sealing chord#but they and ruby still clapped the maestro with just a regular piano!#imagine all of the sealing chords you can make with other tunings systems!#like#if the maestro heard that modulation to the key of g half sharp in “in the bleak midwinter”#i think they would collapse like a dying star#anyways#doctor who spoilers#dw spoilers#the maestro#ruby sunday#the fifteenth doctor#microtones#i love microtones#12 tet#12 tone equal temperment#12 edo#microtone#xenoharmonics#or is it#xenaharmonics#i don’t know#doctor who#i fucking forgot to add the dw tag the first time#i’m an idiot

bugs are the most evil and fucked up things on this planet
#like your own bugs are bad enough but bugs you aren’t responsible for… even worse#especially if you can’t fix them#tbf I’m a bit out of my depth rn (complex particle systems)#but I got the set-up running on an older version but the newer version doesn’t have the same modules#other people apparently got it running so I should probably just ask or dig deeper into forums#or I could rethink my project make and make something simpler… but I already learned this cool more complex thing if it wasn’t for this bug#sina’s rambling#need a new tag for complaining about dev related stuff

Is it somewhat sacrilegious (/j) to draw a man who had a very complex relationship and moral dilemma over technology as a robot? Maybe. But he looks so silly and fun that way and i love him and think he can get to be computer too.
Bonus attempts at Ethan and Lucas because they don't get the favorite boy treatment
#cad comic#ctrl alt del#analog and d pad#ctrl+alt+del#scott vogel#🎮💻 second chances#my art#hiii hello again. apologies but i continue to post random shit mostly relating to scott and then dissapear into the woods#college be like that#was this done partially for objectum reasons? i plead the fifth. but look at him hes so silly#the idea being hes a central computer system designed to connect and control various machinery#and under the AU idea of them being escaped misfit designs of The Master that the only non totally damaged one is that repairs module#Ethan is a solar powered microwave because i thought it was funny (with an analog computer head)#and Lucas admittedly i kinda ran out of ideas but hes mostly physical strength + based on the old suit design

the venn diagram of people who play like, DDLC and go “this isn’t like OTHER VNs” and people who play one gacha (AK / Limbus / w/e) and go “this isn’t like OTHER gacha” is a circle
#i'm sorry to say this but You Are Still In The Birdcage#like limbus lets you grind it out but the pity system on the whole is about on par with other gacha?#no pity rate and you need the equivalent of 8 SSR dupes to spark any identity#or you can grind out 190 hours of mirror dungeons (if you've paid $12 for the battle pass)#gacha is gacha#just because they're leaning harder on building a habit rn (modules) doesn't meant they're not trying to make money first and foremost

(Before Ray diagnostics test)
Groupmate: Did you study?
Me: I did:)
Groupmate: Great!
Me: For the microbiology practical exam:) We have right after this:)
Groupmate: oh.
Groupmate: Oh.
#for context: practical exam is 47 reactions you have to know by heart#and by 'reactions' I mean 'multi step diagnostics methods'#and we're coming right off of a module control which had the equivalent of exam materials of information and left everyone exhausted#I had three separate mental breakdowns last night trying to study because my nervous system was exhausted and the words just didn't. fit.#i know the first twenty well and some of the later ones but that's not nearly enough and we're taking it with our prof which is worse than#the rest of them (other groups get help because stressed med students+ anthrax is not a good combo) and we won't#finals#pre finals#i wanna die#med student#medical school#med school shenanigans

ignore me i'm just venting but i've never before had such certainty that i'm not going to do well on an exam. it's in like 10 days which sounds like a lot but i attempted to make a study schedule and it terrified me because even if i start cramming every day it won't be enough. so why bother? i refuse to study for this exam on principle. who's the idiot who thought they could stuff this much material into a 5-week module.
#i say this and i study anyway#i hateeee modules it's like if they designed a system specifically to torture me

the whole "it would be kinder to kill them" exchange re-contextualizes murderbot's initial willingness-- even eagerness-- to kill other SecUnits in an interesting way, doesn't it.
#murderbot diaries#system collapse#the murderbot diaries#system collapse spoilers#murderbot spoilers#i still think a big component is that it's internalized the idea that secunits are dangerous#and that their lives are of less value than human life#but it's also like... even after it hacked its governor module it spent what. three years still working for the company?#because the idea that it could be anything but a slave who would eventually die in violence was so inconceivable#even as boundary-breaking as it is murderbot is still coming to grips with the idea that it can change the way things are#even for individuals#that killing other secunits probably feels like the only feasible way to end their suffering#even if its better judgement has always been vaguely aware there are other options#its instincts are still coming along

*grooving in my seat to a song in my head*
#man.#maybe it's not that deep and the things that compel me are just ALWAYS the satisfying interconnects of a well considered system of systems.#AND the design of modules therefore.#like. the games that compel me barely do so for the plot and the ones for whom the plot is the motivator usually fall by the wayside for me#I struggle to engage with stories that require foundational knowledge of social structures and interpersonal communication...#...likely because their mechanisms are nebulous and inconsistent as I understand and perceive them#the non game things that bring me joy are usually wreaking my own interconnects and performing amateur systems integration.#or making modules for extant systems to change their mechanisms of function#anyway! not going anywhere with this just saw a homestuck fan adventure and wondered why homestuck had hit so hard and so effectively for m#and I think in large part it is because virtually everything in that comic is the interconnection of multiple different systems#be they of symbolism or game mechanic or social tie. it feels messy and sprawling in a way that is both familiar and fascinating#and I've been revelling more in just. throwing in arbitrary systems of communication of meanings into art I make#fuck it! how do you get compelled by the things you create if you don't create them to your taste!

I really really love being a ttrpg GM but I really really don't have the motivation or interest to write my own homebrew campaigns these days but I also really really don't enjoy playing pre-written modules because I have a hard time sticking to what's on the page
Do you see my struggle
There's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza dear liza
#ragsycon exclusive#ALTHOUGH... I bought a game system agnostic adventure when i was at gencon that was really interesting#and yes that's still a pre-written module but since it's not hard coded to run on any particular set of mechanics#it might be easier for me to play loosey goosey with#I'll see how I'm feeling after i wrap up my mini motw campaign I'm running for some irl friends#being in the motw one-shot group has helped a lot#no one's ever required to run a game-- we all swap around who's gm#so there's no pressure to run a tight operation#but everyone still gets to keep playing their characters instead of throwing them away at the end of each session like in other oneshots
