Synthetic Leather Market Insights: From Material Science Innovations to Consumer Preferences
The global synthetic leather market is anticipated to reach USD 66.24 billion by 2030 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 7.87% from 2024 to 2030, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc. Growing awareness among consumers regarding animal exploitation, aided by programs run by organizations such as PETA, has played a major role in increasing the demand for leather alternatives. The growing supply-demand gap in the natural leather industry is also a major factor responsible for manufacturers opting for synthetic or artificial leather.

Furthermore, natural leather is obtained from animals, which has resulted in animal killings. There have been various guidelines and laws established by various countries to protect animal rights. Animal rights laws have become a major hurdle for natural leather manufacturers in several countries.
Synthetic Leather Market Report Highlights
The automotive application segment is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 8.9% over the forecast period.  Synthetic leather is used in several automotive applications such as upholstery, dashboards, headliners, seat belts, airbags, and floor & trunk carpets. It is employed in passenger vehicles, light & commercial vehicles, heavy trucks, and buses & coaches as it is lighter than real leather. Its high elasticity enables passenger comfort in addition to providing resistance against hot & cold temperatures and spillage. The product also increases the durability of automotive interiors and reduces maintenance requirements
The PU synthetic leather segment held the largest market share of 60.8% in 2023. PU leather has good elasticity, resistance to solvents, high tensile strength, and skin abrasion resistance. These properties have been a major help in increasing its market penetration in the automotive, footwear, and furnishing sectors
Asia Pacific dominated the synthetic leather market. China is the largest market for synthetic leather in Asia Pacific. It is also among the major consumers of leather in primary application segments such as automotive, furnishing, and clothing. Automotive and footwear industry, which are vital application segments for synthetic leather, are witnessing a rapid growth in the country. China mainly imports synthetic leather from India, Korea, and Italy
In December 2021, Dow, a U.S.-based company, announced the launch of LUXSENSE, a silicone synthetic leather. It is the world's first high-end silicone synthetic leather material designed to meet specifications in furniture, wearable devices, fashion, transportation seating and interiors, and consumer electronics, offering unique features

Manufacturing activities of natural leather, especially tanning, lead to pollution of the nearby surroundings. This is another major reason leading to the shift in preference toward synthetic leather. Stringent environmental laws and government regulations have been influential in promoting the demand for synthetic leather.
India is among the world’s top five producers of leather. However, the Central government of India has banned the slaughter of cows for meat and leather, which has adversely affected the leather industry in the country. Most of India’s leather and meat industry comprises unorganized players, owing to which a reduction in the annual production from these industries is not feasible to estimate. The market situation has widened the demand-supply gap of genuine leather, which is expected to supplement the India PU market’s growth over the forecast period.

Sustainability Awareness- Synthetic Fibers- Nisha Designs
All these are manmade Synthetic Fibers made from petroleum through fracking, mining, fossil fuels practices that are harming our environment. When you wear these materials on you, buy them and have them in your home, hotel, restaurants, office, food packaging, bottles, clothing, on your furniture, drapery, cushions, bed you sleep on etc you are literally breathing toxic chemicals. And the thing…

Being able to participate in a conference where other conservators, artists, designers, curators, museum workers, and other enthusiasts, are all sharing their work and research is such a breath of fresh air. It's so invigorating, which in turn makes me a bit sad that the institution I work in is so stagnant and closed off.
At least I have a good team and we're able to motivate each other in our work. AND we have new ideas to deal with our more problematic materials! Synthetics and semi-synthetic materials are quite complicated and some pieces in our collection need some serious attention.

Re: the lack of demand for wool thanks to propaganda causing more waste; my parents live part-time in a small village in Ireland that is about half populated by sheep farmers. ALL those farmers have had to pivot away from wool production to mutton production, because they can't survive off selling the wool anymore. So now they are killing exponentially more sheep than they were killing before, since. You know. You don't have to kill the sheep to harvest the wool!
God, this is incredibly sad
all that wool that could become, not just winter/cold-weather fabric, but summer-weight wool that's excellent for temperature regulation!
and of course, the irony of killing more sheep because P*TA told you the non-lethal sheep product was evil

im not brave enough to wear it myself yet so I'll just put this idea out there for free:
drag outfit (i guess?) leather codpiece. with a horrible little Scrunched Up Face on it. Like this?
Tumblr media
but its a codpiece instead of a fanny pack?
#toy pic post#undescribed#outfits#selfies#the fanny pack likes to gravitate to the front and hang out there and then theres a little scrunched up face staring out from my crotch#which i feel like would be pretty fun if done on purpose. but i have not yet reached the point in my life where id wear a codpiece. so#if i ever do clown/jester drag tho. feels like Big Potential#aroace fashion. to me#anyway i love grichels#also Im Sure Someone Has Already Done This. im aware its probably not the most original idea in the universe. i just dont think ive seen it#so far#also: is that 2 juggling balls in each pocket or. yes its 2 juggling balls in each pocket. i love coquetryclothing#for all my clowning needs#the vest and. red pant things (what the fuck are those called?) are moresca clothing#the poofy sleeved romper and big pants are coquetryclothing#and they have nic bg pockets and you can get custom ones picked from their fabric options. and theyre synthetic material but feel well made#and comfy. pretty breathable. i feel confident i could wear it outside on a warm summer day. maybe not Hottest summer day.#if i could make any changes tho id make little fabric pockets in the shoulders and make the foam pads that make the shoulders poofy#Removable to make it easier to throw in the machine. cos it says hand wash and i Get It. but also. god i despise hand washing. i dont want#to!!!!!!!!! maybe if i ever learn how to sew i will do that. add little pockets and make the foam things removable

Scientists present a modular bond-centric strategy for designing protein nanomaterials that are motivated by the wide range of chemical configurations that may be produced from a limited number of atomic valencies and bonding interactions. Through the application of basic geometric concepts, researchers from the University of Washington create protein building blocks with regular coordination geometries and bonding interactions that facilitate the assembly of a broad range of closed and opened nanomaterials.
Electron microscopy data closely matches the appropriate design models, and experimental characterization verifies the successful production of over twenty multi-component polyhedral protein cages, 2D arrays, and 3D protein lattices, with a high success rate of 10–50%. Due to its modular design, individual building blocks can be assembled with various partners to create unique regular assemblies. This leads to a reduction in the number of parts needed and makes it possible to develop reconfigurable systems.

YOUR 🫵 ACETATE RIBBUN 💐 FIC ✍️ IS SUPER 👅🤟 FIRE 🔥 BUT TO ME 👆 THE ONLY CANON 📖 RIBBUN 🐰🎭IS DISCUSSIONS 🗣️ ABOUT COMPOST ♻️
Bro you don’t know what you’ve done for me by sending this ask:
I can finally mention that “acetate” is a compound used to make textiles but is an alternative to fully synthetic-made textiles as it is a mix of natural and synthetic materials.
So acetate fabric is a bit more biodegradable than other synthetic textiles MEANING ITS COMPOSTABLE!!!
AND THATS WHY I MADE IT THE TITLE!!!!
PERHAPS IT IS A LITTLE ABOUT COMPOST AFTER ALL.

So I'm spiritual and been fascinated by this set of beliefs for a long time. I picked up a book on auras and it mentions that synthetic clothes are bad for your aura and all natural fibers are better. I'm not going to deny possible better ecological effects as I know nothing about that however I am curious how it could be dampening to the aura. the aura is an energy field you produce, and polyester is carbon and hydrogen atoms. Charcoal is used in rituals, is it the carbon that's the issue? Water is used in other rituals and we are also largely made of water. Ofc the behavior of the elements does change depending on what it's bonded to but I don't see how it would cause issues. Is it due to it being man made? Tarot cards are. Cotton is also largely carbon as it's a plant material. If anyone could explain I would appreciate it.

I'm once again trying to find some decent jeans that fit me. However, I'm a bigger person and that is not an easy task sometimes. I used to buy from one place, they had fantastic jeans. Lasted a long time, sturdy, looked good, and then of course they stopped making them in my size. Don't even make CLOSE to my size anymore.
This is something I've noticed lately. It's getting harder to find clothes in my size and I haven't changed sizes in years. Companies just aren't making them anymore and the few that are left charge a considerable amount of money for really crummy quality. I bought a pair of jeans after I couldn't find the ones listed above for about the same price I would have paid for the better quality ones. They've lasted two months and they're already ripping on a pocket and started to rip apart in the crotch.
I'm just beyond aggravated. I just want clothes that last and then when it's time to replace them, be able to buy something at least similar in quality.
