16-year-old Sylvia Likens was the daughter of two carnival workers, but when her parents' separated and her mother was jailed for shoplifting, somebody needed to care for her. Ultimately, Sylvia and her sister, Jenny, were sent to live with Gertrude Baniszwewski and her family, paying them $20 to take care of the two girls.
When the payments were late, Baniszwewski would turn on the girls, particularly Sylvia. She would hit the girls with paddles, and whip them. Being fragile and asthmatic herself, Baniszwewski recruited her children and neighbourhood children to subject Sylvia to horrendous abuse over the period of three months.
This abuse included putting cigarettes out on her skin, burning her with scalding water, beating her, rubbing salt in her wounds, forcing her to eat things which would cause her to vomit and on at least two occasions, she was sexually assaulted with a Coca-Cola bottle. On another occasion, a neighbourhood boy, Coy Hubbard, used her to practice his judo, which as a result, caused her to become incontinent. Baniszwewski responded to this by forcing her to eat her own faeces as well as her one-year-old sons.
Jenny, Sylvia’s sister attempted to get help and contacted their older sister, Diana, who came to the house yet did nothing to help. Shortly before her death, Baniszewski took a hot needle and carved “I’m a prostitute and proud of it!” on Sylvia’s stomach. A neighbourhood boy, Richard Hobbs, helped. He also helped 10-year-old Shirley Baniszewski burn the number “3” into her chest with an iron poker. The night before Sylvia died, she attempted to escape the house of horrors. She was caught by Baniszewski who threw her down the stairs into the cellar which had become her home.
The next day, on October 26, 1965, Sylvia’s body gave up after the countless beatings, burnings, sexual assaults, and lack of food and water. She died of a brain haemorrhage, shock, and malnutrition. She had suffered unimaginable torment. Her body was covered in wounds, bruises, and burns. In her final moments, she had almost completely severed her lips with her teeth from the beatings.
Gertrude received a life sentence while the younger assailants received petty sentences and were all released and went on to lead normal lives, something Sylvia could never do. Disgustingly enough, Gertrude was released for good behaviour after just a measly fourteen years in prison.

Ghosts! Personal Accounts of Modern Mississippi Hauntings (1992) by Sylvia Booth Hubbard; photos by Robert Hubbard
Do you believe in ghosts? Perhaps you should. Here is an intriguing collection of true stories about ordinary people who have the extraordinary experience of sharing their lives with ghosts! In Ghosts! Personal Accounts of Modern Mississippi Hauntings, author Sylvia Hubbard takes a realistic approach to a supernatural subject, and her very lack of exaggeration or tabloid sensationalism makes these authentic accounts all the more chilling. From antebellum mansions to modern suburbs, here are twenty-five true stories of active Mississippi ghosts, chronicled by the people who know them best -- those who actually live and work amidst these disembodied spirits on a daily basis. Evocative photographs by Robert Hubbard, taken at the site of the hauntings, illustrate the book. These starkly beautiful black and white pictures, with no artificial special effects to mar their power, capture the aura of these ghostly settings. Within these pages, in their own words, are real stories...from real people...about real Ghosts!

SYLVIA LIKENS: A HEARTBREAKING CASE ABOUT ABUSE AND MURDER
WHO WAS SYLVIA LIKENS?
Sylvia Likens was a 16 year old girl, who was murdered by her caretaker, Gertrude Baniszewski, Indianapolis, Indiana. Sylvia was abused, tortured, and neglected for three very long months. Not only by the hands of Gertrude, but also by the hands of her own children and the children around the neighborhood. During her early teenage years Sylvia liked to do small jobs to earn money, such as babysitting, running errands for her parents, and helping her friends and neighbors with their ironing. She was described as an extremely friendly girl, and was confident with great potential in her life.
THE BEGINNING
Her mother Elizabeth was sent to jail for shoplifting, and their father, Lester, worked for a carnival with their three older siblings. Someone needed to care for Sylvia and her younger sister Jenny while they were away, and Lester ended up putting them in the care of Gertrude. He was also supposed to send her weekly money of $20 for the food that she’d be giving to the girls. Failure to keep up with his payments only further fed into her reasons of abuse towards the girls. But something about Sylvia really made Gertrude snap, along with her daughter Paula. The mother and daughter were extremely jealous of Sylvia’s natural beauty, and Stephanie would spread rumors about Sylvia that would get her in a lot of trouble with Gertrude. Her son John would also play a huge role in her abuse. Sometimes Slyvia’s little sister Jenny would also be forced into hurting Sylvia. Occasionally, Jenny would also be abused by Gertrude, but not nearly to the extent of her sister. Jenny also had Polio, which made it very hard for her to protect Sylvia.
THE ABUSE
Sylvia endured a lot of utterly terrible things. She was neglected, starved, dehydrated, belittled, beaten, lacerated, burned, mutilated, sexually humiliated, and sexually assaulted. On one occasion, both girls were accused of eating too much food at a Church dinner, and they were hit on the rear 15 times with a wooden paddle. After this Gertrude started shifting almost all of her abuse solely on Sylvia. On another occasion, Sylvia mentioned that she once had a boyfriend back in Long Beach, California. Gertrude asked her if she had ever “done anything” with a boy. Not knowing what Gertrude meant, she said, “yeah, I guess so.” Gertrude then stated in front of all her female children, that whenever a woman “does something” with a boy, they will surely become pregnant. She then proceeds to kick Sylivia in the genitals. Seeing this, a three month pregnant Paula also starts beating on Sylvia. She was hit with the paddle on many various occasions. Paula even broke her own wrist when beating Sylvia in the face with brutal force. It got to the point where it wasn’t just Gertrude and her children doing the beatings. Gertrude allowed her children’s neighborhood friends to pay five cents every time they wanted to join in on the beatings of Sylvia. Coy Hubbard, who was the boyfriend of Gertrude’s daughter Stephanie, and his classmates would often go to Gertrude's home to abuse Sylvia. The children even used her body as a practice dummy for their Judo sessions. Gertrude also repeatedly whipped her with a belt, burned her with cigarettes over 100 times, burned her fingertips, and kicked her in the genitals as an example to all the other girls as to how bad premarital sex is. Shockingly, her daughter Stephanie came to Sylvia’s defense and screamed at her mother, “she didn’t do anything!” To try and get her to stop the abuse. The Liken’s sisters and even Gertrude’s own children who didn’t partake in the beatings were afraid of Gertrude, and due to that fear, no one went to the police about it. The sisters were even afraid of telling their family, due to having to continue to stay in Gertrude’s care, they feared the repercussions.
THE ESCALATION OF ABUSE
Sylvia’s torture became so frequent and severe, that she became incontinent over time. She wasn’t allowed access to a bathroom, therefore needing to wet herself. Gertrude decided that as a form of punishment for wetting herself, she would tie her up in the basement, often to a metal railing, with her feet barely even able to touch the floor. Most of the time she was also kept completely naked, hardly ever given food, and was extremely deprived of water. She was also restrained, gagged, and put into very hot water while they smeared salt into her wounds. Gertrude would also let the boys sexually assault her body while she was chained to the railing, and while tied down to her bed. Gertrude and her son, John Jr, also took the diaper of her one year old son and forced urine and feces into Sylvia’s mouth. Gertrude eventually allowed Sylvia to sleep in a bedroom upstairs, if she promised to learn not to wet herself and use the bathroom properly. She did this on purpose because she knew how badly Sylvia’s incontinence was. She just wanted another reason to punish her. When Gertrude saw that Sylvia had wet herself the next morning, she decided that the punishment would be to force her to shove a Coca Cola bottle into her vagina in front of everyone, including her younger sister Jenny. She demanded Sylvia to masturbate with the coke bottle, to show Jenny the “real woman that she truly is.” Gertrude then came up with the idea to brand Sylvia. She made the boys hold her down while she started carving these words into her abdomen: “I’M A PROSTITUTE AND PROUD OF IT.” Gertrude carved one letter into her before she couldn’t stomach it anymore and made, and forced a 14 year old boy, Richard Dean Hobbs, to finish the job. If this wasn’t bad enough, Gertrude then decided to verbally taunt Sylvia about the branded words on her stomach saying, “Sylvia, what are you going to do now? No one’s gonna marry you now. What are you going to do?” Weak and defeated, Sylvia responds while crying, “I guess there’s nothing I can do.” But Gertrude wasn’t done with her there. No, not one bit. She told Sylvia that as long as she had the urge to have sex, men will still continue to want sex from her. That she will continue wanting sex if she could feel pleasure. That’s when she decided to mutilate her in front of everyone. She burned her clitoris so she couldn’t feel pleasure. Jenny sat with her sister every night, trying to console her. On the very night when she was branded, she said to Jenny, “Jenny, I know you don’t want me to die, but I’m going to die. I can tell it.” It was such a heartbreaking moment for them both. The next day, Gertrude knew the fate of what’s going to happen to Sylvia, and she needed to start covering her tracks. She forced Sylvia to write a letter out to her parents, stating that she had run away from home, and that a group of boys had tormented her, branded and mutilated her, after she had agreed to have sexual relations with the group prior to her beatings. Gertrude’s plan was to have John Jr and Jenny blindfold Sylvia, and take her into the woods and leave her there to die.
THE LAST CHANCE FOR SURVIVAL
On October 26th, Sylvia overheard a conversation between Gertrude and John Jr about their plan to take her into the woods to leave her there to die. She tried to escape by fleeing towards the front door, but her injuries were just so terrible, and she was so weak that she couldn’t make it to the door in time, and Gertrude caught her. She then proceeded to force toast down Sylvia’s throat and repeatedly beat her in the head with a shower rod, so much to the point where the rod had bent. Coy Hubbard then took the rod from Gertrude and hit her in the head one last time, causing her to go unconscious. Her body was then dragged back down into the basement. That night Sylvia tried to save her life one last night by screaming for help as loud as she could, hoping that her neighbors would hear her desperate cries for help. One neighbor actually did hear a “desperate commotion” coming from Gertrude’s home, but that the noise had suddenly stopped at 3AM, so she decided not to inform the police about it. That could have been Sylvia’s one last chance of survival.
A TRAGIC LOSS
On the morning of October 26th, Sylvia was unable to speak, and could barely even move her limbs properly. Gertrude and Paula took Sylvia to the kitchen to try and feed her and give her something to eat, but it wasn’t working. Out of frustration, Gertrude threw Sylvia onto the ground and dragged her back down to the basement. Afterwards, several people joined down into the basement and gathered around the very delirious and weak Sylvia. She tried pointing at people, trying to remember their names. Sylvia again tried to escape from the basement one last time, but she collapsed before she could even try to make it up the stairs. Gertrude then stomped on Sylvia’s head, and then stared at her for several moments. Richard Hobbs returned to the house around 5:30PM to check on Sylvia, and when he got to the basement, he saw Stephanie crying while she held Sylvia close to her. She told him that her mother ordered her to give her a bath. Richard and Stephanie carried her body up the stairs and into the bathroom, and washed her in the bathtub. They put her in new clothes and brought her to a bedroom, and laid her on the bed. It was then when Sylvia would say her last words, that she wished that her daddy was there with her, and that she wanted Stephanie to take her home. When Stephanie realized that Sylvia was no longer breathing, she attempted to perform CPR, but nothing was working. Gertrude was so evil, that she even insisted that Sylvia was faking her death. But obviously, that was not the case. Sylvia died a tragic and horrendous death, full of nothing but misery and pain, at the very young age of 16.
THE AUTOPSY
Sylvia Likens autopsy revealed that she had 150 different injuries on her body. She was also extremely thin and brittle due to severe malnutrition. She had burns, severe bruising, extensive nerve and muscle damage, along with lacerations, and most of her external skin around her face, right knee, breasts, and neck were receded. Additionally, her fingernails were broken backwards, and her vaginal cavity was nearly swollen shut. Due to her most likely trying to stop herself from screaming during her torture, she had severely bitten through her lips, and partially severed sections of them from her face. Her official cause of death was from a subdural hematoma due to receiving a severe hit to her right temple. However, shock and severe malnutrition also aided highly in her death.
TRIAL AND SENTENCING
When Gertrude realized that Sylvia was not faking her death, she panicked and told Richard Hobbs to call the police. They got to the residence around 6:30PM and Gertrude brought them to Sylvia’s severely beaten and lifeless body. She pretended like she just found Sylvia like this an hour ago, and was trying to tend to her wounds, and showed authorities the fake letter. In private Paula held a bible close to her, and told Jenny that Sylvia’s death was “meant to happen,” and said to her, “If you want to live with us, Jenny, we’ll treat you like our own sister.” Jenny was also forced to recite a rehearsed speech to the police, but whispered to an officer saying, “you get me out of here and I’ll tell you everything.” After Jenny formally gave her witness statement to the police, officers arrested Gertrude, Paula, Stephanie, and John Jr on suspicion of Sylvia’s murder. Officers also arrested Richard Hobbs and Coy Hubbard with the same charges on the same day. They were held at the Indianapolis Children’s Guardians Home, without bail pending trial. Originally Gertrude denied having anything to do with Sylvia’s death, but eventually ended up telling authorities that she had noticed the kids, especially Paula and Coy, physically and emotionally abusing Sylvia. Paula had no remorse whatsoever, and signed a statement admitting to hitting Sylvia with her mothers belt, breaking her wrist on Sylvia’s jaw, and inflicting other awful acts of torture, including pushing her down the stairs multiple times, and giving her a black eye. John Jr also admitted to having spanked Sylvia one time, and told the authorities that he mostly used his fists as his preferred way of abusing her. He also stated that he burned Sylvia on several occasions, and that his mother Gertrude consistently put out her cigarettes on Sylvia’s body. Five other children from the neighborhood, Michael Monroe, Randy Lepper, Darlene McGuire, Judy Duke, and Anna Siscoe were also arrested and were charged with causing injury to a person. However, each of them were released to their parents under subpoena to be witnesses at the trial. Stephanie Baniszewski was released from custody due to a habeas corpus bond, as her attorney was able to prove that there wasn’t enough evidence to indict her for the crime. Stephanie also waived her immunity from any prosecution, and agreed to testify against her family to the abuse and torture they inflicted on Sylvia Likens. Gertrude also tried to plead not guilty by reason of insanity. The trial lasted a total of 17 days, and the jury took eight hours to come to a conclusion for their verdict. On May 19, 1966, Gertrude Baniszewski was found guilty of first degree murder, and sentenced to life in prison. Paula Baniszewski was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter, and sentenced to serve between 2 and 20 years. and sentenced to life in prison. John Jr. Baniszewski, Richard Hobbs, and Coy Hubbard were found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 2–21 years, and they would serve their time in the Indiana Reformatory.
PAROLE
In 1985, Gertrude Baniszewski was up for parole. This caused an uproar throughout Indiana, and Jenny, along with the Likens family, protested against her possible release. Two anti-crime groups traveled to Indiana to form a sidewalk picket campaign. Just within two months of protesting, these groups were able to come up with over 40,000 signatures from citizens in Indiana. This petition demanded that Gertrude Baniszewski remain in prison for the rest of her life. Due to her upstanding and good behavior in prison, Gertrude was unfortunately granted parole. She walked out of prison as a free woman on December 4th, 1985, just 21 years after she was convicted.
THE END
When Gertrude Baniszewski was released from prison, she moved to Iowa. She never accepted full blame for what happened to Sylvia, claiming that she was on drugs at the time, and also accusing her medication for her asthma to have caused her to act a certain way. She died in 1990 at the age of 66 from lung cancer.
Paula Baniszewski was paroled in 1972, only six years after her conviction. She changed her name to Paula Pace and worked as an aid to a school counselor in a school in Iowa for 14 years. They fired her in 2012 when they found out the truth about her criminal record. Paula currently lives in Iowa and is married with two children. The child she gave birth to in 1966 before her conviction, who she also named after her mother, ended up being adopted.
Stephanie Baniszewski had all charges against her dropped. She changed her name to Stephanie Serikstad and became a school teacher. She is now married with several children and currently lives in Florida.
After their mothers arrest, Marie, Shirley and James Baniszewski were under the care of separate foster families. Their last names were legally changed to Blake when their father regained custody of them in the late 1960s. Marie later married and died of natural causes at the age of 62.
Richard Hobbs, Coy Hubbard, and John Jr. Baniszewski all served only two years before being let out on parole. Richard died of lung cancer in 1972 at the age of 21. Coy remained in Indiana and never changed his name. He was in and out of prison for most of his adult life, for multiple different charges. He died of a heart attack at the age of 56 in 2007.
John Baniszewski changed his name to John Blake. He stayed in Indiana and became a lay minister, forming counseling sessions for children who have divorced parents. He died in 2005 at the age of 52 from diabetes.
Jenny Likens got married and had two children. Due to the trauma of having to witness the torture that her sister went through, she was on anxiety medication for the rest of her life. She passed away from a heart attack in 2004 at the age of 54.

The Murder of Sylvia Likens Pt. One: The Crime
TW: Talk of severe child abuse and torture.
Sylvia Likens was a 16-year-old girl who lived with her four siblings and her parents, Betty and Lester. Lester only made it through 8th grade and worked many jobs to support his family. These jobs included several factories, a laundry route, at one point, a small restaurant (which was unsuccessful), and even traveling in a circus selling food out of a concessions cart.
This job was what Lester and his wife decided to go back to in the summer of 1965. Because of this and the travel schedule, Sylvia's parents had to find someone to take care of their four children. The two boys went to stay with their grandparents, and that left the two girls, Jenny and Sylvia.
Betty and Lester heard about Gertrude Baniszewski through a mutual friend. They contacted her, and she agreed to take the girls for 20 dollars a week. The families agreed, and the girls went to live with Gertrude.
Tumblr media
Gertrude Baniszweski was a frail, underweight woman with a laundry list of health issues and asthma. She had seven children of her own at the time. Seventeen-year-old Paula, fifteen-year-old Stephanie, twelve-year-old John, eleven-year-old Marie, ten-year-old Shirley, and 18-month-olds James and Dennis.
Tumblr media
The minute Sylvia and Jenny entered the home, Sylvia and Paula were having difficulty getting along, and this is where it's believed the initial problems started, lasting from July to October 1965.
The turning point was when one week, the 20-dollar money order didn't come on the day Gertrude expected it to. Jenny said that Gertrude took her and Sylvia upstairs and slapped Jenny, saying, " I took care of you two bitches for a week and for nothing." This was when the abuse began taking place.
There were two weapons Gertrude used regularly. A fraternity-style, two-inch-thick paddle, and a thick leather belt belonged to her ex-husband. She would hit the girls for anything she deemed punishable. This includes simply exchanging soda bottles for change at the grocery store near the home.
She once burned Sylvia's fingers because she had stolen a gym uniform from the school she went to because Gertrude refused to buy her clothing.
When Gertrude felt too weak to carry out the punishment herself, she would get her children or even other neighborhood children to do it for her.
The girls did not have a perfect life with the Baniszewski's. The girls went to the same high school as the rest of Gertrude's children. At one point, there was a rumor spreading around the school about Stephanie, Gertrude's second-oldest daughter, and someone told her that Sylvia had started it. When Stephanie found out, she asked her if she'd started it, and Sylvia confirmed this. Stephanie punched her in the face and then proceeded to cry with Sylvia.
However, Stephanie's boyfriend Coy Hubbard heard the same thing and brutally attacked her for saying anything about his girlfriend. After this, he would regularly invite his friends to the house, and they would practice Judo on Sylvia, throwing her into walls repeatedly.

Eventually, Sylvia was thrown into the cellar. She was denied access to the bathroom and was only given crackers as food. Sometimes, John would give her a bowl of soup and make her eat it with her hands. When she started to eat, as, by this time, she was extremely malnourished, he would pull the bowl away and laugh at her.
When it became apparent that Sylvia was going to die, Gertrude forced Sylvia to write a note saying she had been beaten by a group of teenage boys. The plan was to blindfold her and dump her in the woods, naked, with the note nearby. She passed away before this could happen, however. Gertrude called the police on October 26th, 1965, and told them she'd been beaten by a group of teenagers.
Jenny Likens told the police that this was not true and pushed for an investigation to be opened, and eventually, the police opened one.
Tumblr media
Gertrude, her daughter Paula, her son John, Richard Hobbs, and Coy Hubbard were all arrested and charged. Gertrude with 1st-degree murder, Paula with second-degree murder, and the three boys with manslaughter.
The trial began in April 1966, and the first witness was called.

The US “justice” system does not care about rape victims.
(Trigger warning for this entire post. It deals with s*xual assault and injustice)
The US justice system does not care about rape victims. Here’s proof:
Aaron Tyrell Scott raped his 15 year old stepdaughter. He was found guilty but only got 90 days in jail.
Allen Stewart attempted to rape a woman but she miraculously escaped. He got released from jail with an ankle monitor, and ended up raping another woman (preventable). He has a history of other violent crimes.
Anna Ruth Siscoe, along with several others (also in this list) held a teen girl (Sylvia Likens) captive for months, torturing her in the most brutal ways they could think of, including sexually. CPS and police officers were notified of the victim’s treatment but nothing was done. The victim eventually died from the brutal treatment. Anna got no prison time.
An unnamed teen raped a girl, filmed it, and sent it to his friends bragging about it, saying, “my first time was rape”. The judge didn’t punish him and his identity was kept secret from the media.
Austin Kade Goings beat and raped a child, but got a prison sentence of less than 2 years.
Austin Smith Clem raped his teenage neighbor several times. He was found guilty but got no prison time.
Austin Wilkerson sexually assaulted an unconscious woman. Got only 2 years in prison.
Brian Shaffer kept molesting kids and possessing and distributing CP and kept getting arrested for it. He only got 3 years for one of the assaults and he kept getting released from jail on bonds.
Brock Turner raped an unconscious woman. Got only 3 months in prison.
Canaan Jacob Kelley, aka Kimiko Kimi Valentine, got only probation for having CP, and ended up downloading MORE of it (preventable). Kelley frequents pro-child abuse websites, advocates for the legalization of abusing kids, and admitted to assaulting a minor.

Cayce Williams was found guilty for raping and murdering a toddler. He was released back into society.
Charles William Swift violently raped an at-risk female. He was formally classified as a sexually violent predator. He was released.
Christopher Belter raped several teenage girls. He was found guilty but only got probation.
Colleen Hermesmann raped a 12 year old boy over the course of months to years and became impregnated from it. Charges were attempted to be brought against her for the rape but she didn’t get any prison time. In fact, she forced her victim to pay child support and actually set forth a precedent that in Kansas, a mother can sue the father for child support, even if she became pregnant through unlawful means, such as rape.
Coy Hubbard, along with several others (also in this list) held a teen girl (Sylvia Likens) captive for months, torturing her in the most brutal ways they could think of, including sexually. CPS and police officers were notified of the victim’s treatment but nothing was done. The victim eventually died from the brutal treatment. Coy got out of prison after less than 2 years. He was arrested again and given a bail of only $1000. He was found guilty and the court arranged for him to be released back into society despite committing many rapes. Frazier lied to the courts saying that his uncle agreed to house him, which was a lie, but the courts took his word for it (that makes him a flight risk). The uncle never agreed to it and was shocked that it was being arranged without his knowledge and that his name was being used on public documents without his consent (preventable).
Frank William Rackley raped several people. One of his teenage rape victims was held in juvenile detention without being charged with a crime so that authorities could force her to testify against her will. After a month, judges allowed her to be released but forced her to wear a GPS tracking device on her ankle.
George Perrot raped women, spent a tiny amount of time in jail, then raped more women when he was released (preventable), spent more time in jail, raped more women (preventable), and the cycle repeats (preventable). He is currently free, as of writing this.

John P. Enochs raped several women. Got only a year of probation.
John Freeman Colt was found guilty of raping several people. He got only 5 years in prison, and then escaped from a sex offender treatment hospital (preventable). U.S. Marshalls say that he is at a very high risk for a repeat offense, and every day he is not in custody is a severe threat to the community (yet they sentenced him to only 5 years, for RAPE!). When he escaped from the ward, authorities waited MONTHS before alerting the community (preventable)
John Lentz, Boy Scout leader, is a pedophile who was busted for possessing CSAM. He pleaded guilty and got no prison time.
Johnny Leon-Alvarez, a former police officer, was found guilty for raping a woman but got no jail time.

Jonnathan Soto was convicted of sexual assault. He was in the Army (Buckley Air Force Base in Denver) and they paid, housed, and trained him, and even attended his court proceedings. They trained him in guns which violated the restraining order, and drove him to court and his mandated pervert classes. He did eventually get discharged from it but only got a “general discharge”. The victim spoke to the army’s Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention Team but told her not to tell the state investigators that she was talking to them or else they’d have to go to court and lie to protect him. They said this with sympathy like they would have no choice. This is your tax dollars at work!

Here are people who got punished for rightfully killing predators:
Brittany Smith killed the monster (Todd Smith, no relation) who beat and raped her and got sent to prison.

Cyntoia Brown Long killed a pedophile (Johnny Michael Allen) who wanted to rape her. She got sentenced to life in prison. Luckily, she was later granted clemency, but not until 15 years later.
Jay Maynor killed the pedo (Raymond Earl Brooks) who raped his daughter after he got a very tiny prison sentence. Jay was then sentenced to 40 years in prison.
John Eisenman killed the rapist (Andrew Sorenson) who sold his girlfriend into sex slavery and is in jail on a first degree murder charge.
Sarah Gonzales-McLinn killed the rapist (Harold Sasko) who was using her as a sex slave. She got sentenced to 50 years in prison. It was later reduced, but still high at 25 years.
Shane Goldsby was forced to share a prison cell with the pedophile (Robert Munger) who raped his little sister. He asked several times to be moved to a different cell and was denied. Munger started talking about the rapes in detail so Shane did the right thing and snapped. Shane was sentenced to 25 years.
Zephaniah Trevino had her rapist (Carlos Murillo) killed and is facing up to life in prison.
If the US “justice” system ACTUALLY cared about victims of sex crimes, they would...
1. Make sexual predators have a mandatory sentence of either life without parole or execution for their first sex crime. 2. Not allow rapists or their lawyers to make defenses in court regarding what the victim was wearing, or how “good” the rapist had been in the past, or how this will ruin the rapist’s future. Because none of that has anything to do with the crime! 3. Not punish victims for killing their rapists/slave owners. 4. Fire and arrest judges who give lenient sentences for sexual predators found guilty. 5. Mandate security cameras in daycares and classrooms (especially special ed classrooms). 6. Have no statute of limitations on sex crimes. As long as there’s evidence, victims should be allowed to bring their abusers to court. 7. Not allow sex offenders to get a lighter sentence through a plea deal. 8. Not allow sex offenders to have character witnesses during trials. What matters is the evidence, not “oh but he’s such a good boy!”. Rapists are very good at pretending to be good people to their non-victims. 9. Not allow house arrest/release with ankle monitors before trial for violent criminals.
It’s a sick world when sexual predators get less than a slap on the wrist, and heroes/victims get lengthy prison sentences for keeping themselves and society safe from these monsters.
Any proven sexual predator who gets anything less than life in prison without parole, or the death penalty, is an absolute tragedy and inexcusable. No US state has a life without parole or death penalty minimum sentence for sexual assault. That should be the norm everywhere.
Refusing to sentence a rapist to life without parole or death is practically doing nothing about it, because most, if not all, predators end up victimizing people again.
Number of things that could’ve been PREVENTED if these sexual predators were sentenced to life in prison for their first sex crime: Sexual assaults Kidnappings Murders All could’ve been prevented if they were put in prison for life or executed.
Pending cases: Jamey Noel (sheriff) and David Lowe (jail officer) and other unidentified jail officers in Indiana accepted a bribe by two male inmates for keys to female inmates’ cells in the same facility. 28 of those women were then threatened, assaulted, and raped. The victims were punished for this, and lost dark privileges, razors, pillows, and blankets. The victims developed nightmares, bleeding, vaginal tears, and herpes.
***
Feel free to share far and wide. This post is to expose the disgusting justice system in the US for how it deals with sex crimes.
Also free to submit a post or “ask” with another U.S. case where a sexual predator was found guilty but not given an adequate punishment.
I last added to this list in August 2023. I think I may retire from updating it because I think my point has been made and it’s emotionally exhausting to keep up with this. Always feel free to reblog with more though.
