Finance ministers of Japan and South Korea agree to resume currency swap agreement as ties warm
From July 21, Japan plans to reinstate South Korea as a preferred nation with fast-track trade status.
TOKYO (AP) — Japan and South Korea agreed Thursday to revive a currency swap agreement for times of crisis, in the latest sign of warming ties as the countries work to smooth over historical antagonisms.
Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki announced the agreement after meeting with his South Korean counterpart, Choo Kyungho. It was the first time the two countries have held annual financial talks in seven years, though Suzuki and Choo also met in South Korea in May.
Suzuki told reporters that the 3-year currency swap agreement would help reinforce trust in the financial stability of the two countries as a fallback in an emergency. But he emphasized that Japan is fully prepared to deal with fluctuations in the Japanese yen, which has weakened sharply against the U.S. dollar in the past year.
The $10 billion swap arrangement expired in 2015 and had not been renewed. Largely symbolic, it allows the South Korean and Japanese central banks to exchange currencies for each country’s reserves of U.S. dollars to provide extra liquidity, or cash supplies, in case of a crisis.
The two major Asian economies, both U.S. allies, have recently mended ties as they contend with challenges posed by China and North Korea, despite tensions over issues left over from Japan’s 35-year occupation of the Korean Peninsula before and during World War II.
From July 21, Japan plans to reinstate South Korea as a preferred nation with fast-track trade status. That will essentially end a four-year trade dispute that began in July 2019 when Japan removed South Korea from its “white list” of countries given fast-track approvals in the trade as ties deteriorated over compensation for Japanese wartime actions.
Japan’s tightening of trade controls against Seoul was in apparent retaliation for South Korean court rulings in 2018 that ordered Japanese companies to compensate Korean workers for abusive treatment and forced labor during World War II.
Japan also tightened export controls on key chemicals used by South Korean companies to make semiconductors and displays, prompting South Korea to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization and remove Japan from its own list of countries with preferred trade status.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida met in March in the first formal summit between the two countries since 2015.
Japan colonized the Korean Peninsula between 1910 and 1945, imposing Japanese names and language on Koreans and conscripting many into forced labour or prostitution in military brothels before and during World War II. Japan gave $800 million to South Korea’s then-military-backed government under a 1965 accord to normalize relations which were mainly used on economic development projects driven by major South Korean companies. A semi-government fund set up by Tokyo offered compensation to former “comfort women” when the government apologized in 1995, but many South Koreans believe the Japanese government should take more direct responsibility for the occupation.
The two sides also have a longstanding territorial dispute over a group of islands controlled by South Korea but claimed by Japan.

YAE NO SAKURA
“Cherry Blossoms don’t resent the winds that scatter them. They just bloom with all their might. The flowers may scatter but in time, they will bloom again, and again, many times over. Yae, you are a Sakura.”
I just finished watching this Taiga Historical Drama which turns out as great as Onna Joshu Naotora where the story centers around a female lead character.
You may have heard about Takeko Nakano, a fearless female Aizu Warrior who fought to her last breath with her naginata, leading her fellow female warriors against the Imperial Forces defending Aizuwakamatsu Castle.
While Takeko (played by Meisa Kuroki) does appear in this show, the drama focus on another fellow Aizu female warrior named, Yamamoto Yae (played by Haruka Ayase), a Samurai’s daughter who was skilled in gunnery who led the last line of defense of Aizu Castle while Takeko led the Naginata armed female warriors to head out of the castle earlier to prevent the enemy from reaching it.
It tells about Yae’s life story from childhood (played by Rio Suzuki) where she had a fascination with the Teppu (Matchlock) Gun from her brother (Yamamoto Kakuma) and her desire to be stronger in order to serve her Lord and protect her family. She caught the attention of her Lord (Matsudaira Katamori) for her “Samurai Spirit” in her young age, in a sense that she’s not afraid to come forward to admit her mistakes instead of running away like other children and thrives to be better than others.
Her long journey of life is both heartwarming and heart-wrenching, with her dreams and efforts in starting something new or has never been done before by a woman of that era, overcoming tribulations and tragedies, meeting new people in her life, loving and losing people who meant to her dearly, her struggles to push on, and paving way for a new generation of females for a new country. Her determination and resilience in adapting the changing way of life under different rule from the Shogunate to the new Imperial Meiji era is something I admire and adore her for. While the Boshin War might have ended, there are those from Aizu who are still trapped in the past, drowning themselves in pain and sorrow but Yae managed to struggle her way out with the help from her loved ones and start over a new life, venturing into the unknown in an attempt to help others.
Growing from an obedient Samurai’s daughter, to a fierce Rifle-woman, a protective sister, a loving wife, a passionate teacher and a caring nurse. She went through a lot, acquiring new life experiences and knowledge to adapt, using her cherished memories of her loved ones whom she lost before, during and after the war to motivate her in life and do not let her failures, regrets and sorrows of past tragedies to stop her. Something I’m sure we are all aspiring. “Once you decide on starting on a new path, you must never give up.” Haruka Ayase played an amazing role in this that you can empathize with her easily and feel her emotions surging through her throughout the show, feeling her happiness and sadness from time to time.
The setting of the story is interesting in a sense that you can feel their desperation and helplessness in being inferior to foreign power since the arrival of Commodore Perry and his Black Ships which divided the Samurai Clans which will ultimately led to the Boshin War and the Meiji Restoration. However, the transition from a Shogunate rule to a an Imperial rule is not a smooth sailing ride as they are those who oppose the new changes and fear the unknown. Or afraid of losing the privileges that they had once enjoyed in order to build a better country that can match the industrial and military powers of the world. And there are those in the new government who still use their positions for their own self-interests, which corruptions lead to more rebellions from discontented population. The challenges of opening new Westernized schools for the younger generations as many feared of losing their Asian values by learning western knowledge and so on. Overall, it’s a very interesting show which shows you the hardship felt by every character on all sides as they struggled to do what is right.

Why the Philippines should seriously focus on football
Philippines has been sending contingents to various international sport competitions, and basketball is one of the events that it never failed to participate in. FIBA, the Asian Games, SEA Games, are just some of the tournaments that the Philippines regularly join. The country can pool great players, but to become one of the dominant teams globally is a dream yet to come true.
While it is true that Filipino cagers can be considered at par with basketballers from other countries as far as skills are concerned, it will take a while before we can be ranked among the top countries that dominate the sport. There will always be that one factor that will hamper Filipino players to keep up with other countries – height.
Obviously, basketball is a game dominated by tall players. The country will need to do a lot of work to eventually address that challenge. For now, what it can do is focus on sports where height is almost negligible.
Football is one of the sports where players do not have to be too tall. The ball is controlled by foot on the ground, so height and reach advantage won’t count a lot. The only player that may benefit for being tall in this sport is the goal keeper.
Speed and ball control are some of the attributes that a footballer should ideally have. Shorter players tend to be quicker and more agile, making them a more dependable striker and ball carrier. Having shorter legs, these players have lower center of gravity that allows them to have more control and balance.
The sport involves a lot of running, and shorter players tend to last longer in this situation as they are lighter as compared to taller players. Being light would mean that their body can sustain demanding activities such as running over an extended period.
Some of the world’s greatest footballers are Pelé (5’8”), Lionel Messi (5’7”), David Beckham (5’11”), among others. These are just some of the players that did not have to be over six feet tall to dominate the sport.
The country’s football team - Philippine Azkals have started a successful campaign for the country. In 2018, the country took the 111th spot in the FIFA world ranking. This is the highest rank the country has ever reached since this ranking was introduced in 1993. As of May 2021, the country is ranked 125th out of 210.
Brothers Phil and James Younghusband, former Azkals players, were part of the team that made history in Philippine football. In the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup where the Philippines finished third, Phil scored a total of six goals in the whole tournament. James also scored an important goal in the qualifying match against Mongolia in the same tournament. Both were midfielders and strikers. They stand at 5’11” and 6’1” respectively.
Another former Azkals member was Emelio “Chieffy” Caligdong. He was a winger and was a prolific scorer. He was noted for scoring a goal in the qualifying match against Mongolia in the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup, and for scoring four goals in the 2011 Long Teng Cup. But probably one of the most important highlights of his career is when he played as a substitute in the match against Vietnam in the 2021 AFF Suzuki Cup. He scored the lone goal that clinched the victory for the Philippines and an entry to the semis. He stands at 5’5”.
Young Filipino prospects could bring pride to the nation someday if provided with sufficient support. What the country needs is to put in place programs that can help aspiring players get optimum training and support to further enhance their skills.
There should be more facilities put up to encourage young Filipinos to play football. Scouts should tirelessly look for talents. Provide these talents with extensive training once pooled. Football requires skills and players need to be in great physical condition. These traits are developed over time. The earlier these talents start training, the better.
Same is true for almost all other sports. The earlier they start, the better. The support that they can get together with training and experience will surely pay off one day.
There is no better way of saying that we need to invest in our players if we want them to put the country in the map as far as football is concerned.

What Everybody Ought to Know About Soft Launch Impact of Patimban Port on Indonesia
Indonesia: Gross domestic product (GDP) in current prices from 1985 to 2025
Indonesia is a land of many exotic, mysterious, and interesting things. Some call it the land of promise while others think Indonesia as the “land of then unknown”. For newcomers, whatever you think, it is a beautiful archipelago with tremendous economic potential and is on its way to becoming one of the world’s largest economies alongside India and China.
The Indonesian Government’s commitment to expanding its infrastructure is making Indonesia a hub for many things. And while other Asian countries are struggling with this global health crisis, Indonesia continues to move forward with its initiative by continuing to construct large deep seaports, new airports, and many more toll roads. (The GDP growth is showing the impact)
This one article will provide you all the insights you need to know about the impact of the Patimban deep seaport, in particular, in Indonesia, especially in the Subang Region.
Economic Status of Indonesia
Indonesia is known for it’s natural resources. It is the largest economy next to China in Southeast Asia, according to the World Bank. As the fourth largest populous nation in the world, Indonesia has been challenging its neighbors like Japan, China, and India for its deep labor pool and great manufacturing capacity.
Indonesia has always been a trading hub in the Southeast Asian region for centuries. Countries in the west like India, Pakistan, and Iran facilitate their trade with the east using the Indonesian ports. This gives Indonesia a superior advantage.
But still there were some underdeveloped regions in Indonesia which made the overall growth slower. According to a latest report, the most developed region was Jakarta, Special Region of Yogyakarta, and East Kalimantan.

The Subang Regency is one of the strategic locations in West Java where some development efforts can make a huge impact on the country’s economy. Let’s talk about the launch of a new port in Subang regency — Patimban Deep Seaport.
A Soft Launch of Patimban Amid the Pandemic
The construction of Patimban deep seaport was started with a hope to complement the Tanjung Priok Port. Tanjung is the busiest port in Indonesia.
However, the real interest for making the deep seaport was to develop the Subang regency which was previously untouched by the Government.
Patimban deep seaport saw its official launching on December 2020, amid the Coronavirus fear around the world. Since Patimban is situated in a strategically suitable location, it was able to send a maiden automotive export to Brunei in December 2020.
This is a good opportunity for the development of Subang regency as the trademark car brands like Toyota, Daihatsu, and Suzuki are willing to use the port as a new hub. The President of Indonesia expressed his gratitude by saying, “In the midst of this pandemic, we have completed one of the national strategic projects, namely the construction of Patimban Port.”
This marks the importance of Patimban Port and the entire Subang regency in the eyes of the policy makers. The timely soft launching in midst of the global economic downturn could bring massive economic growth to the country and the West Java province. “And we certainly plan on being in the middle of this. The multi-family housing opportunity here is too great to ignore” claims Denny Darmodihardjo.
Why the Soft Launching was Significant?
Patimban Port was estimated $3 billion before the construction started. Analysts estimated 7.5 million TEU capacity of the port which will develop in three stages within 2027. However, with a soft launch, this port is ready to make trades right now when Indonesia needed it the most.
The Patimban Port is 145 kilometers away from the city of Jakarta. High speed roads are already in place to improve and help the logistics of the deep seaport.
It has also encouraged the growth and need for bigger roads, additional terminals, super-fast highways, more airports, and has created better real estate opportunities in the region. “There is a desperate need for housing in these areas as people from all over the Country flock there looking for work. This is an absolute game changer and for those who have the connections to develop there, the opportunities are endless”, says Denny Darmodihardjo.
They’ve already constructed toll roads connecting the Subang regency with the other parts Indonesia. The new airport near Patimban also reduced the pressure on the overcrowding City of Bandung.
This made the Patimban port one of the most Nationally Strategic Projects for the country. In fact, international and sovereign investment money came pouring in to make this project more of a common interest. The first phase of the port will be constructed using the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) funds.
Patimban Port is a game changer for both the Subang regency and the Indonesian government. It should open many opportunities for every stakeholder in the country.
More and more trading and financing opportunities are becoming a possibility in Subang thanks to the soft launching of the port. Although, there were doubts about the launching of the Patimban port amid the Covid-19 pandemic, but the President of Indonesia made it possible.

Let’s talk about the launch of a new port in Subang regency – Patimban Deep Seaport.
The multi-family housing opportunity here is too great to ignore” claims Denny Darmo.
This is an absolute game changer and for those who have the connections to develop there, the opportunities are endless”, says Denny Darmo.

Since 2003 Suzuki cars embrace transponder keys that could be replicated in a cost-effective and straightforward process, yet most advance cars utilize encrypted transponders that has to be programmed to the vehicle using an exclusive diagnostic hardware and if all keys are misplaced, the car computer has to be bootstrap.

Signss of a troublesome ignition could be key got caught in the break and won't turn, broken ignition key or ignition key is hard to turn in the ignition.
Since car ignition cylinder service might easily cost outrageous amout of a $1000 for some car models when repaired by the dealer-ship as opposed to a vehicle mobile lock smith who is capable of repairing or replacing the ignition internal elements for a small portion of this price and moreover avoid the towing service.

Up-to-date motor vehicle assembled with car computer and car keys are fitted with digital chip located hidden inside the bill of the key or on the blade (in vehicle anti theft system) keys. When the chipped key is put in the ignition key crack, the chip send a unique signal for the car computer to be verified. Without this correct signal, the car will not kindle.
When a car owner lose or want to copy his key, the chip must be programmed with the same key-code to be adopted by the engine control unit.
Several manufacturers of automobiles models and years ration control panel interface for duplication of keys, but if all keys are missing, the car computer must be reprogrammed by suitable programmer owned by a locksmith or the dealer-ship.
Suzuki smartkey
Smart keys are number one in car user comfort and convenience, you are adept to lock and unlock your car doors and trunk besides running the car – while avoiding holding the key. You just need to carry it on yourself, whether in your purse or handbag.
As soon as the car user step by their car, they’re recognized by a corresponding radio frequency transponder inside the proximity key. The car doors and trunk open and unlock when the car user pulls the handle. The car powers up pressing a push-buttons on the dash-board. The push-buttons is doing the job of the mechanical key by closing the circuit on the engine fuel supply.
Locking the car when exiting is just as comfortable. The car user solely presses a clicker on the door handle – several keyless entry device instruments might even lock automatically as soon as the car user steps out of reach.
Copy vs lost car keys
After the mid to late 1990s, a lot of auto manufacturers started to accommodate immobilizer and electrical keys as an additional protection means in which a car engine control module will identify the transponder key when you go to ignite the vehicle. If the vehicle doesn't identify a matching key, immobiliser demobilize the fuel supply and the vehicle will not burst.
This instrumentation serve as antitheft to avert against hot wiring or lock picking the vehicle and help drivers and insurance companies in eliminating car theft world-wide, nevertheless the costs of motor vehicle keys soar to $55-$120 for a primitive duplicate transponder key and apparently leastwise a $100 extra if the key is lost.

The 10 Best Wellness Trends Of The 2010’s

The 10 Best Wellness Trends Of The 2010’s
With the sun having set on the 2010s, what are the top wellness trends to take into the New Year … [+] 2020? (Photo: Getty Images)
Getty
Every chocolate eclair has a golden lining. While the 2010’s have had its share of bogus and bad wellness trends, it’s also had its good ones. On the last day of the past decade, I covered for Forbes the Top 10 worst wellness trends of the twenty-teens. Let’s use the New Year to cover the really good ones. Now without further doggie-doo, here are the Top 10 best:
10. Athleisure, activewear, and eco-friendly apparel
“Athleisure” or “activewear” clothes are more comfortable but also stylish garbs that you can wear during athletic activities as well as others such work, going to school, attending parties, and getting arrested at protests. It’s basically melding sportswear with everyday wear, making it easier to meld physical activity with everything else. Why not? After all, many classic office-wear clothing items make about as much sense as the lyrics of the song Ice, Ice Baby. For example, neckties have little practical purpose, except to dab the tears in your eyes from your dreams being slowly crushed by your boss.
Then there are eco-friendly clothes, those that are less likely to pollute the environment. For example, they may be made out of natural fibers rather than petroleum-based clothing, which can be a source of microplastics, making oceans look like a bedazzler gone overboard, so to speak, as I’ve covered before for Forbes.
More clothing lines emerged that merged athletic activities with other activities. (Photo: Getty … [+] Images)

9. More flexible work hours and more attention to family leave policies
While I was in medical school, an anesthesiologist once told me, “the best thing about anesthesiology is that you get into work at 6 am and then.” Everything sort of went hazy after he said that, because, to borrow a quote from the movie Jerry McGuire, he definitely didn’t have me at 6 am. Even if he had continued by saying,”they provided gold bars and sushi,” that workday start-time basically ruled out anesthesiology as a career option for me.
Fortunately, the 2010s saw increasing recognition that not everyone operates best at the same hours. On one end of the spectrum are night owls, who prefer later-to-rise-and-later-to-bed hours. At the other end are people whose sole purpose is to make night owls miserable: the early morning people, the larks. Then, there is a whole continuum of people in between. Over the past decade, more and more workplaces began offering more flex hours, allowing employees to better tailor their “on times” to their own personal working styles.
Another trend was paying more attention to having more reasonable family leave policies. Note that the words are “paying more attention to” and not actually changing them. While some organizations have responded by offering longer family leave, not all are allowing mothers and fathers much time with, you know, those living, breathing, peeing, and pooping things that have appeared in their houses and apartments. As John Oliver pointed out in this 2015 episode of Last Week Tonight, the U.S. still lags most of the world (except for perhaps Papa New Guinea) in this area:
8. Doing something about the sitting problem
Is sitting literally the new smoking, as some began claiming that it is? Not exactly, unless you are doing something really weird with your bottom. What this saying is supposed to highlight are the dangers of sitting around too much, which can lead to an increased risk of obesity and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The 2010s saw various trends aimed at decreasing your sitting time, such as standing desks, conducting meetings while standing, desk cycles, computer screen reminders to periodically get off of your butt, and the movie “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” to get you moving more or out of your seat. Not all of these will necessarily sit well with time though. Standing too long has its perils too, such as back and foot issues, and people asking you to stop blocking their view in the movie theater. And if you’ve got a standing desk, you’ve got to be real careful when propping your feet on the desk.
Standing desks became a thing in many workplaces. (Photo: Getty Images)

7. More plant-based diets
Eating more plants and less meat can be better for not only your health but also the environment. Fruits and vegetables are naturally lower in saturated fat and sodium and can be higher in sodium and many types of nutrients and antioxidants. Plus, meat production can add lots of carbon and other types of pollution to the environment, and it’s not just from cows farting. The past decade did see an increase in plant-awareness and plant-based options. Heck, there is even meat-free haggis now, which is a bit like Game of Thrones without the killing and the sex. Keep in mind, though, plant-based doesn’t automatically mean healthy. Some plant-based dishes can have plenty of bad stuff added such as saturated fat, salt, sugar, and artificial ingredients. Also, if you are vegan, don’t go acting like the Todd Ingram vegan character in the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Being vegan won’t automatically make you better than others, as this tweet references:
6. Waking up to sleep problems
What you do in bed matters, a lot. No, not that the stuff that takes on average 5.4 minutes to do with a range of 0.55 minutes to 44.1 minutes, based on a study of men in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Spain, Turkey, and the United States published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine. Instead, I’m referring to what you usually do in bed, which is sleep or, at least try to sleep. Getting less than seven hours of sleep a night is linked to increased risk of obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, frequent mental distress, and death. And if you are dead, you can’t do that other stuff in bed, at least you really shouldn’t. A study published in the February 19, 2016, issue of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report found that more than a third of Americans regularly fall below this seven hour threshold. While many of these sleep problems have not yet been adequately solved, at least there seems to be more awareness for now.

5. Meditation and mindfulness
And Zen there’s this trend. It isn’t a completely new trend. In fact, various meditation and mindfulness practices have been common for hundreds of years in many parts of Asia. What’s new is these practices are becoming more mainstream in the U.S. For example, my previous article in Forbes covered how the NBA has incorporated such practices into its Rookie Transition Program. Being more in touch with your mind, your feelings, and your environment can’t be a bad thing. Maybe mindfulness can help counteract another trend that’s happening on social media: mindlessness.
Here is a video from the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) on the origins and traditions of meditation:
4. Personalized health, nutrition, etc.
Surprise, surprise. Everyone is not the same. You all don’t have the same bodies, the same minds, and the same circumstances. You all don’t like to dab. For too many years, too many people, whether its medical researchers, people trying to sell stuff like diets and medications, or people making policies and guidelines, have overlooked the individual and tried to lump people together into gigantic buckets. The 2010s saw increased realization that this just doesn’t work, that you actually have to, gasp, get to know someone before making many judgments and giving advice.
3. Talking more about mental health
If you have a bleeding arm, would you ever try to hide it or fear that someone will say, “ha, ha, that’s the bleeding arm guy, look at how bleeding his arm is.” Similarly, hiding mental health issues for fear of stigma and social and career implications makes little sense. You can’t address an issue if you don’t know about it. The 2010s had a number of athletes, movie and television stars, and other celebrities be more frank about their mental health challenges. For example, in this Today show segment, celebrities Carson Daly, Kristen Bell, Ryan Reynolds, Kevin Love and Michael Phelps discuss their anxiety, depression and other mental health challenges:
2. Efforts to increase sports participation and make it more inclusive.
Physical inactivity has become a major worldwide problem that’s gotten worse in the 2010s. Sport participation, especially among kids, dropped in the 2000s and much of the 2010’s with sports becoming too expensive, too competitive, and too inaccessible to play for many and a range of more sedentary activities like social media and putting Tide Pods in your mouth competing for attention.
But there is hope. The past decade witnessed increasing diversity among professional and other high profile athletes. Events like the 2019 Women’s World Cup provided a greater showcase for women’s sports:

The tail end of Ichiro Suzuki’s major league baseball career, the spectacular beginning of Jeremy Lin’s NBA career, and Chloe Kim’s gold-medal-winning 2018 Winter Olympic debut got more people used to seeing those of Asian descent as top athletes.

The 2010s also saw more Black athletes dominate in roles, such as being an NFL quarterback, that not too long ago seemed reserved for White athletes. Moreover, initiatives like Project Play 2020, which I have described previously for Forbes, launched to increase youth participation in sports.
1.Finding ways to decrease sugar and salt consumption.
Oh sugar, who would have thought that drinking sugar water would be a bad thing? In the 2010s, there was finally a whole lot more attention paid to the dangers of adding sugar to everything. This included trying to find ways to curb the consumption of sugary drinks, such as warning labels and soda taxes, and helping people better understand how much sugar is being added to food. One example is when First Lady-at-the-time Michelle Obama worked with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to add a new category to the Nutrition Facts label: “Added Sugars.” The actual implementation of this change has been delayed under President Donald Trump’s administration.

This list certainly ain’t everything that was good about wellness the 2010s. Also, some wellness trends in the decade were a bit mixed. For example, wearables really became a thing. The good thing about these tech devices is that you can wear them on your body to monitor what you do. The bad thing is that you can wear them on your body to monitor what you do. Questions remain about the usefulness of the information being collected and the impact of others knowing this information.
Alas, 2020 is no longer just name of a television show or a perfect reading on an eye exam. It is now when we are. How many of these best wellness trends will continue and expand? You may want to sleep on it.

Electric Vehicles Market India
Overview:
Electric vehicles market in India is majorly driven by two reasons, on one side, it offers cost-effective travel for customers, on the other hand, it supports fleet operators with financially manageable business models. During 2018 – 19, In India over 85% of the electric vehicles are two-wheelers followed by three wheelers and four wheelers.
Despite the favourable policies and EV finance models by the Indian government, the Indian electric vehicles market is yet to see a growing demand for EVs, mainly in the four wheelers segment.
Mahindra & Mahindra pulled off its EV car from India:
The Indian leading four-wheeler electric vehicle OEM, Mahindra & Mahindra has stopped its electric car e20 Plus production due to fewer sales. This particular model offers regenerative braking which cervical whenever driver applied break, it comes with smartphone app connectivity that offers to unlock the vehicle cooling features from a remote location. Mahindra also has registered a patent called Revive, that offers additional charge to the car. Also, Mahindra offers connected electric mobility which ideally cover shared connected and electric vehicles to support electric lead mobility. OLX Mahindra offers if you other models including e-Supro (EV cargo van), e-Verito (EV car), EV three wheelers- Treo & e-Alfa Mini, and also the company is looking forward to launching an electric bus in 2019.
Despite the fewer sales registered for existing EV four-wheeler models, the country has seen a couple of electric vehicles OEMs entering the market or have announced to enter the market, including Tata Motors, Kia Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai among others. Providing charging stations and supporting a vehicle owner in case of battery drain is an existing challenge among the vehicle OEMs. Two-wheeler electric vehicle manufacturer Ather, came up with supplying charging equipment in a few cities in India, creating awareness about the necessity of creating a strong EV charging station ecosystem in the country.
Trend for on-demand electric two-wheelers:
The ongoing trend towards battery two-wheeler is pushing the market for electric fleet operations in the country, companies including Zappy, e-BikeGo, and Mobycy, among others. Also a few on demand and ride-sharing companies have emerged with two-wheeler or scooter offerings. also, the market is going to witness the country’s largest ride-sharing providers like Ola and uber are entering the market download. Also, India’s largest EV OEM Mahindra and Mahindra has entered in a partnership with smartE, a two-wheeler EV fleet operator. These electric two-wheelers are available for rent at almost all Metropolitan cities in the country. From the consumer side, the adoption for EV two-wheelers is comparatively higher than smart bikes.
Analyst comment:
When compared to Indian electric vehicle market with any of the Asian or European developed markets, a few drawbacks we could find is the quality of the roadways, average number of kilometres a user travels in a day, ownership of charging stations, and market for used electric vehicles. Also, Indian EV manufacturers have to consider the need for vehicle safety which otherwise will lead to a lot of problems in case of accident.
