“Oh no, there is only one bed, what will we do now?”
I've been trying to get this one right for a long time. I feel like I wrote the start of at least five different versions before this one... Thanks for being patient 😘
Denver, 1965
“That…” Lenny managed finally. “That is quite the bed.”
The pair of them had been standing at the end of the king sized, pillow laden beast of a mattress for God only knows how long.
Just staring, bags in hand like a couple of idiots.
“Yes it is,” Midge agreed, equally dumbstruck.
“The uh…” She cleared her throat. “The bookings were part of the tour deal. I guess they thought you were Mister Maisel.”
He nodded absently. “Happens.”
“They probably overbooked. Thought they were doing us a favor with the upgrade,” she reasoned.
“Probably…”
They'd been on tour together for about a week with Lenny as her opener. She still couldn't quite believe it but she was now the bigger name out of the two of them.
She understood the how and why. It was just a little hard to reconcile. It didn't feel like it should be real.
Not like this at least…
Then again nothing had truly felt real since that night in San Francisco.
One minute she's chain smoking in the alley, fighting for her life against a panic attack, the next her manager is marching back into that hell hole of a club only to drag Lenny out by his ear to check him into rehab.
But even after he got out and Susie managed to clean up some of his legal messes the clubs still wouldn't touch him on his own merits.
Which is where she came in.
She'd hoped it could be a way for her to repay some of the favors he'd done for her when she’d hit a career low. To show him he still had her support. That she still cared about him, deeply.
She'd never once stopped caring about him. Never would.
She would always love him.
But they'd barely spoken. At least not anything of consequence.
He didn't seem to think they had much left to say…
“I’ll um… You should take it. I can sleep on the couch,” he offered, breaking himself away from the bed to set his suitcase by the dresser.
Before he got any ideas…
They'd had their share of falling into bed with each other over the years but with them working together now he didn't feel like he was in any position to assume.
She'd always been very clear about her feelings on mixing business with pleasure.
And they hadn't exactly been together anytime recently. Things change. She might not want him anymore. He wouldn't blame her.
Certainly not after she and Susie had basically dragged him out of the gutter.
He'd never wanted her to see him like that. To see that he was so far gone. That all was very much not well.
Living on opposite coasts had made it easier to hide.
They'd written a few letters. Shared a couple of phone calls, but he'd never let on just how bad off he was. He could barely admit it to himself.
He didn't want her help.
She gave it to him anyway.
Thank god she was just as stubborn as he was.
“What couch?” Midge wondered.
He looked up, glancing around the room.
Mountain view.
Bathroom.
Absurdly inviting bed…
Coffee table.
Two chairs.
No couch.
“Oh…” he blinked. “Well there were a few promising options in the lobby.”
She looked at him skeptically. “You're kidding.”
“No, they really did look quite comfortable. Nice plush upholstery.”
Midge rolled her eyes, setting her bag down. “I know Susie had to bail on this stop to take care of business in New York, but if she hears you slept in the lobby you and I both will never hear the end of it.”
He let out a sigh, deflating. “You're probably right.”
“You know I'm right.”
He nodded tiredly, swiping a thoughtful hand over his mouth.
Her manager had put in a lot of effort trying to turn his image around.
Their manager, he corrected himself mentally.
He was still having a hard time coming to terms with that one.
He wasn't used to representation that didn't hound him for payment at every turn.
Lenny looked around the room pensively, snapping his fingers towards the sitting area.
“Chair. Chair looks good.”
He sat down, curling his long frame up onto the seat, testing the theory.
Midge sat down on the edge of the bed across from him, looking thoroughly unimpressed. “The chiropractor Susie hired to follow you around is gonna love that.”
“I've had worse,” he replied through a grimace he tried to pass off as a smirk.
A scoff of a laugh escaped her lips as she looked out the window at the storm brewing outside.
“This feels familiar…”
“How so?” he wondered, adjusting his position.
“The snow.” She gestured to the space between them. “You keeping a respectable distance.”
He shrugged, not meeting her eyes. “Seemed like the safe option.”
“Is it because I talk to my shoes? I don't do that in front of just anyone you know,” she quipped.
“Lucky me. Some guys would pay good money for that.”
The chair reclined unexpectedly with a cartoonish clank of metal and springs beneath the seat, becoming even less comfortable than before.
“Lenny…”
“Hm?” he replied, attempting nonchalance.
“You've been avoiding me,” she informed him softly. “Care to tell me why?”
“I would not call going on tour together avoiding you,” he batted back lightly.
She waited patiently for his answer.
He huffed out a sigh, staring up at the ceiling.
“I've been trying to work out why it is that I'm here,” he admitted.
“Here as in the tour or more in a grand existential sense?”
To his noncommittal wave of a hand she replied “I needed an opener, you needed a job.”
“You felt compelled to fix my mess,” he corrected.
Midge blinked, her brow furrowing. “That's not–”
“I'm not angry,” he assured her, sitting up slowly. “I was for a little while, but that was more with myself than anything else. For giving you no other choice but to either turn your back or step in and try to put Humpty Dumpty back together.”
She shook her head, perplexed. “You needed help. We help each other. That's how we've always been.”
He smirked ruefully at the assertion. “I haven't been any help to you in a long time.”
Midge blinked.
She didn't have a comeback for that one.
“It's late,” he reminded her gently, stealing a decorative pillow from the other chair for his head. “You should try to get some rest.”
Her mouth set firmly as she looked back out the window, finding herself uncharacteristically speechless
She wanted to argue. To remind him of everything they'd been through. To tell him exactly what seeing him at his lowest had done to her. What the thought of losing him had done…
But the words just wouldn't come.
Instead she got up from the bed, grabbing her night things from her suitcase to head for the bathroom to get changed.
Once she was alone she exhaled a shaky breath, gripping the sink tiredly.
She never asked Susie what it was she'd said to Lenny that night.
Now she was starting to wish she had…
After a moment, she straightened up to get ready for bed, removing her earrings quickly then reaching around to unclasp her necklace.
Only it wouldn't budge.
She turned to look over her shoulder in the mirror, her fingers fumbling as the metal caught in the lace overlay of her dress.
The more she tried, the more tangled it became.
She begrudgingly turned to look at the door, weighing her options.
Fuck it.
Pride hasn't done either of them any favors lately anyway.
“...Lenny?” she called out sheepishly.
“What?”
She swallowed.
“I need your help.”
He appeared in the doorway a moment later, his tie and jacket removed.
She gestured helplessly, giving it one more attempt on her own. “It's stuck.”
“Yes I can see that…” he chuckled.
She shot him a look.
“Alright, hang on,” he assured her, holding up his hands in a truce.
He came up behind her slowly, standing close so that he could see what he was doing.
Midge stayed quiet, attempting to hold her hair out of his way, the gravity of his presence all too familiar a temptation.
“Need your reading glasses?” she teased, fighting to ignore the butterflies she felt as his fingers brushed incidentally along her neck.
Lenny smirked. “I'll manage, thank you. Your various clasps haven't beaten me yet.”
Like she needed the reminder…
“There,” he said in triumph after a moment, reaching around her to set the necklace on the edge of the sink.
“Thank you.”
“You're welcome.”
They stood frozen, neither one wanting to be the first to pull away.
“You, uh,” Lenny hesitated, wetting his lips. “You want help with the zipper too?”
Midge nodded, glancing over her shoulder up at him. “If you don't mind…”
He nodded in the mirror in lieu of reply.
His hand settled tentatively against her dress, one warm and steadying as the other slowly skimmed it's way down, sending a thrilling shiver along her spine.
“This was never about fixing you, you know,” she murmured quietly before he pulled away. “I don't… You're not broken. Not to me.”
“I'm a little broken, hate to break it to you,” he chuckled self-deprecatingly.
She took the hand still resting against her hip in her own, holding it fast.
“No more than I am.”
His eyes grew soft as he looked down at their entwined fingers.
“Can I ask you something?”
She nodded, turning to face him.
“Why did Susie really take me on?”
To her furrowed brow, he reasoned, “Don't get me wrong. The comedy comeback story is good, but if that had been the real reason she would have reached out way before San Francisco.”
Midge looked down at the floor between them, running her thumb softly along his.
“Because I needed her to,” she whispered.
“Why–”
“I couldn't live with the idea of a world without you in it,” she cut off, her voice hoarse with the threat of tears. “You don't love someone for half a decade and then just shrug and throw in the towel while they slowly kill themselves in front of you. And don't try to say that wasn't what was happening because you and I both know that–”
He reached out then, pulling her close as his lips collided with hers in a tender, searing kiss.
Her hands fisted in his shirt as he caressed her jaw, clinging to him, desperate to feel that it was real.
That he was still there, whole and steady, heart still beating beneath her fingertips, and not just a cherished memory.
He pulled away slowly, resting his forehead to hers.
“Thank you,” he murmured, his thumb brushing the moisture from the corner of her eye. “Thank you for never giving up on me. You had every right to.”
“And a few very good reasons not to,” she reminded him.
He smiled softly, pulling back just enough to look at her. “So five years, hm?”
She bit back a laugh. “Give or take.”
He smirked. “I think I've got you beat.”
“Oh yeah?” she wondered. “By how much?”
He shrugged. “A bit.”
“Hm.” She nodded, biting her lip thoughtfully. “What do you propose we do about it?”
“Well, you did basically save my life by intervening in it. I suppose we can call it even,” he chuckled, arching a playful brow. “Why, did you have some other ideas?”
She took his hand in hers, pulling him gently towards the bedroom. “We can figure it out in the morning. Until then…Think you can still manage my show corset?”
He grinned, letting her lead. “One way to find out.”
She smiled as her dress slipped to the floor, taking his breath away before coming to reclaim his lips.
He wrapped her in his arms, savoring every inch of her as they stumbled to bed where she reminded him what it feels like to be truly alive.
And just how grateful they both were for it.

Judd Legum at Popular Information:
Email communications from individuals associated with the Trump campaign have been hacked by malign actors within the last ten days, Popular Information has confirmed. On September 18, I was sent a message from "Robert," which contained the cover page of a dossier on Senator JD Vance (R-OH), the Republican vice presidential nominee, dated February 23, 2024. Robert refused to identify himself except to suggest it was the same "Robert" who provided stolen internal Trump campaign materials to Politico, the New York Times, and the Washington Post in July and August. "I thought you must have heard Robert's story," he said. Robert eventually sent me a 271-page Vance dossier, along with similar dossiers on two other potential Donald Trump running mates — a 382-page document on North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum (R), dated March 2, 2024, and a 550-page document on Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), dated April 1, 2024. All of the dossiers were marked "Privileged & Confidential."
Robert boasted that he had "a lot" of other Trump campaign materials. He sent me a dozen purported emails to and from top Trump campaign staff, including senior advisor Susie Wiles, senior advisor Dan Scavino, and pollster John McLaughlin. The emails covered an 11-month period, from October 2023 to August 2024.
Robert also sent a 4-page letter, dated September 15, 2024, from an attorney representing Trump to three individuals at the New York Times. The letter has not been made public by either the Trump campaign or the paper. I provided a copy of the letter to Ben Smith, the editor-in-chief of Semafor, who confirmed its authenticity with someone at the New York Times who had seen it. (Smith has published a piece about the incident on Semafor.) The legitimacy of the letter proves that the person or people representing themselves as Robert has stolen electronic communications from people associated with the Trump campaign within the last ten days.
Who or what is "Robert"? A threat analysis published by Microsoft on August 9 reported that "[i]n June 2024, Mint Sandstorm—a group run by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intelligence unit—sent a spear-phishing email to a high-ranking official of a presidential campaign from a compromised email account of a former senior advisor." On August 10, the Trump campaign said it was the victim of a hack by a foreign actor, citing the Microsoft report. Three U.S. intelligence agencies have released joint statements, on August 18 and September 19, warning of "Iranian malicious cyber actors" who have obtained "stolen, non-public material from former President Trump’s campaign." Iran has denied any role in the hack. Popular Information will not publish or excerpt the Trump campaign materials provided by Robert. The materials are stolen, and publishing the documents would be a violation of privacy and could encourage future criminal acts. I believe that, in some circumstances, the publication of leaked materials can be justified. The Pentagon Papers, for example, were obtained illegally by Daniel Ellsberg, but the public interest in revealing the truth about the Vietnam War outweighed those concerns.
[...]
My personal emails were weaponized by the media and the Trump campaign in 2016
In 2016, Russian hackers were able to access years of emails from the personal account of John Podesta, who was serving as Hillary Clinton's campaign chair. I started working for Podesta in 2001, when I was a first-year law student at Georgetown. By the 2016 election, Podesta had been a colleague and friend for 15 years. So the materials obtained by Russian hackers and published by Wikileaks included correspondence between me and Podesta.
Media organizations, including the Washington Post, the Denver Post, the National Review, and others, isolated a handful of my private emails to Podesta and used them as grist for articles that attacked my integrity and professionalism. I believe these insinuations were unfounded, but I was forced to defend my reputation in the media and with my colleagues at ThinkProgress, where I worked before starting this newsletter. I was a bit player in this drama, but it is still disturbing to have your private communications stolen by a foreign government and broadcast by major media outlets. As Popular Information previously reported, outlets like Politico, the Washington Post, and the New York Times produced dozens of unflattering articles and blog posts about Podesta's emails.
[...]
There were a few tidbits of news buried in Podesta's emails, but no significant scandal. Most of the coverage amounted to little more than voyeurism. A Politico "live blog" of Podesta's stolen emails had more than 50 entries published over three weeks. "All the Juiciest Dirt in The Podesta E-mails, Explained," Vanity Fair headlined a November 3, 2016 article that was representative of the coverage. Unlike the Trump campaign materials from "Robert," Podesta's emails were posted online by Wikileaks. But the media played a critical role in amplifying the material and turning a collection of mostly anodyne emails into an ongoing scandal. The media also did not verify the authenticity of the hacked materials. The Clinton campaign declined to review 50,000 emails and contest or validate each one. The New York Times and others interpreted that as proof that they were all legitimate. The coverage lasted for weeks because the stolen emails were released by Wikileaks in small batches. Each time a new batch of emails was released, the media swung into action, mining the stolen materials for any morsel that could be used in a story. There appeared to be little concern that both the content and cadence of political coverage at a critical juncture of the election was being dictated by foreign actors.
The New York Times published at least 199 articles about the stolen emails between the first leak in June 2016 and Election Day. The New York Times Editorial Board wrote that any negative impact their coverage had on the Clinton campaign was Hillary Clinton's fault for not voluntarily releasing the information contained in the stolen emails. "Imagine if months ago, Mrs. Clinton had done her own giant information release," the New York Times Editorial Board wrote on October 22, 2016. "[E]veryone would have long since moved on." The media frenzy over Podesta's emails was actively encouraged by Trump and his campaign. On July 26, 2016, Trump publicly implored Russia to acquire Clinton's internal emails, promising that the media would amplify them. "Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing, I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press," Trump said. (It was later revealed that Russia began targeting Clinton campaign officials "on or around" the same day.) When Wikileaks began posting the emails acquired by Russian hackers, Trump celebrated. He publicly mentioned WikiLeaks 141 times in the month before the election. "WikiLeaks, I love WikiLeaks," Trump told a crowd in Pennsylvania on October 10, 2016.
The Trump campaign is being hacked just like how Hillary Clinton’s was in 2016.

THE 24 HOUR PLAYS Make Their New Jersey Premiere At Mile Square Theatre In April
The 24 Hour Plays are a non-profit theater company that bring creative communities together to write, rehearse and perform new plays and musicals in twenty-four hours.
By: A.A. Cristi
Mar. 27, 2024
On April 7th, The 24 Hour Plays make their New Jersey debut at Hoboken's Mile Square Theatre. Established in 1995, The 24 Hour Plays are a non-profit theater company that bring creative communities together to write, rehearse and perform new plays and musicals in twenty-four hours.
“Mile Square Theatre and The 24 Hour Plays honor an abiding belief in the power of creative collaboration to develop transformative multicultural voices for the theater,” said Kevin R. Free, Artistic Director of Mile Square Theatre. “We're thrilled to be a partner to The 24 Hour Plays for its New Jersey premiere and host to a delightful mix of talents from New Jersey and New York City to make the program really sing.”
“The relationships artists build during formative theatre experiences like The 24 Hour Plays last their entire careers,” said producer Leo Layla Diaz. “We seek the very best cross-section of multi-generational and multi-cultural theater artists – and we arm them with what they need to hone their voices for this unique event."
Actors slated to participate include Gabriel Hernandez (Quarter Rican), Nirvaan Pal (School of Rock), Matt Lawler (“Station 11”, “Billions”), Kennedy Kanagawa (Into the Woods), Stephanie Kurtzuba (“The Irishman;” Wolf of Wall Street;” “Annie”), Joy Katharine Donze (Funny, Like an Abortion), DeAnna Supplee (B.R.O.K.E.N. code B.I.R.D switch.), Jason Yanto, Joelle Zazz, Maya Jeyam, Julia Way, Rich Frohman, David F. Gow (“The Girls on the Bus”), Jordan Ho, Grant Madison Stanton, Ross Cowan, Keivana Wallace (The Christmas Tree Farm) and Ian Lloyd Sanchez.
Writers include Susie Felber (Host/Producer "The Hawk"), DW Gregory (The Yellow Stocking Play, Radium Girls), Iraisa Ann Reilly (The Jersey Devil is a Papi Chulo), Pia Wilson (Black Bee), Marcus Scott (Sibling Rivalries), and Raakhee Mirchandani (JOURNEY TO THE STARS: KALPANA CHAWLA, ASTRONAUT). Directors include Julie Tucker, Rachel Dart (The Christmas Tree Farm) and Goldie Patrick (Paradise Blue). Musical Guests include Faye Chiao and Tasha Gordon-Solmon (Fountain of You). Additional artists to be announced.
Participating actors, writers, directors and production staff gather for the first time on the evening of Saturday, April 6th to introduce themselves and share prop and costume items they've been asked to bring. The writers will take inspiration from this meet and greet to write new plays overnight. In the morning, the actors and directors will receive the six new plays and team up with production staff to begin their rehearsal and tech process, with curtain at 7pm that night.
The 24 Hour Plays: Hoboken are produced by Leo Layla Diaz and Mark Armstrong in conjunction with Mile Square Theatre's Artistic Director Kevin R. Free. The event will honor the long-standing contributions of the Rostan Family to Mile Square Theatre with the dedication of the naming of the gallery space. Vtubertale Journals #1: The Beginning of the Vacation
I'm back from my trip to Osaka! Yeah, that's right! this goat prince got the chance to go to Osaka, Japan! Frisk won one of those sweepstakes getaway contests and my family and I got the chance to go there! Seems everyone knows how to enter and win those things except for me. With a bit of money left over from a raise, Alphys brought the rest of the crew along. Dad, Undyne, the Smiley Trash bag, Papyrus, and Muffet. They had to go on a different flight, unfortunately. From Ebbot City in the U.K. to New York, then Denver, then Sacramento, then Maui, and a bit of a long layover in Honolulu, we had quite a few layovers. Probably one of the unfortunate conditions of the package. Maybe we ought to save up for a home in America.
Needless to say, we stood out a lot everywhere we went. Most either took pictures, or stared a little bit, the rare person would ask for an autograph, and a LOT asked for pictures with us. Mom especially was treated like that Mickey Mouse guy. Everybody loves her. Some people did with me. In one extreme situation, some weird girl was moving in on me. I really hope Muffet doesn't find out. Susie handled everything alright with the crowds, but Ralsei had a hard time getting used to so many people. I had to hold his every time we got off each plane. I wonder if I was like that at his age...
The flights were fine. If a bit cramped. Mom is what people call an "Amazon", so she struggled just a small bit to fit in between the aisles. Thankfully, on every flight I managed to pay extra for first-class seats for her with extra space. She was appreciative of the service the airlines gave her, no doubt trying to curry favor with us. I found myself enjoying watching the clouds roll by. Susie however, struggled REALLY badly. She must have puked her guts out 6 separate times on the flight to Maui.
We got the chance to spend the first few nights next to Osaka Castle! The hotel was a little difficult to find. I didn't expect Japan to be so compact. But with the gift of technology known as Google Maps, we found it alright

Hi! I saw that your Requests are open so I’m here to request headcanons on the Blueycapsules Kids (Evan,Boseman kids,Fritz) reaction towards meeting Grandparent animatronic Y/N?
Imma add Susie here too ^^
........
Evan/CC/[REDACTED] Afton
He reacts the same way at first: just crying, panicking, and trying to stay as far away from you as possible.
Ironically he has a plushie of you at home, which he brings to the diner one day (once he feels brave enough) to show you it.
If you don’t make any sudden movements when near him, he’ll slowly warm up to you, even hanging around you to avoid Michael.
He talks about a k-pop group he likes and shows you their music.
You don't think you, Fredbear, or Spring can sing in Korean.
But you just listen to him anyway, happy to see him smiling instead of crying for once.
Fritz Valentino
This young Italian has both eyes of gold and a heart of gold!
He’s just so sweet, though he talks a mile a minute so it’s hard to keep up sometimes.
Regardless, you listen to his stories anyways and ask him questions.
The knife he keeps with him makes you nervous (about his own safety rather than yours).
He admits to being afraid of Foxy--a secret he never likes telling anyone--and he worries you’re mad about it.
But you reassure him that he’s a kind and bold sailor just like him.
Someday you’ll introduce him to the fox. Only when he’s ready.
Jerry, Gabriel, & Cassidy Boseman
This mischievous trio was always pulling pranks on William.
But one day you stepped in like “hey kids let’s not do that”. Not bc you care for William but bc you didn’t want him getting angry at them.
They initially dislike you, with Jerry going up to you all snarky like “what’s a dumb ol’ bot gonna do? Stop me?”
“Yes, actually.” And you proceed to take his wrist and dangle him up in the air.
You’ve immediately won their respect.
As they visit the pizzeria more often, you find them to be pretty cool. Like with Gabe rambling about his band or Cassidy telling you some “fortune” she read.
And, of course, Jerry clings to you all the time and demands piggy back rides. You can’t refuse.
At least you kept them off William’s back.
Susie Denver
From afar you’ve seen this sweet girl forming a close friendship with Elizabeth, hanging out at the pizzeria often.
You noticed how happier the latter seemed ever since the diner incident. She used to despise you for not stopping it but now she’s been talking to you again.
One day you come up to Susie and tell her that Liz appreciates her more than she knows, and she smiles.
“Yeah! I’m sure she does. I’m really glad to be her friend.”
Whenever she brings Thumbtack to the pizzeria he’s excited to see you, which assures Susie that if he trusts you, she can too.
