Stable boys headcannon

Stable boys definitely had deep late night conversations during the journey. They’d keep watch together and talk about shapeshifting and how they sculpted out their forms to create the perfect versions of themselves. They’d discuss how it felt to be constantly treated like animals without higher intelligence and how it felt to come so close to being put down like dogs. They talked about the parts of human culture they would never understand like the taboos and abstract gender roles (Ao lie let slip that they wish they could live as a women once and they never brought it up again). Really their stories mirror each other quite well, the only difference is Ao Lie was raised royalty and always made to worry about being in conplete control of his image and powers where as Sun Wukong came from nothing and thrives on chaos.

They learned quite a lot from each other. Sun Wukong learned to be more humble and think of himself as a part of the bigger picture rather than the scissors meant to destroy it. Ao Lie learned to stop caring so much about what others thought and embrace the animalistic and improper parts of him without caring what others thought. neither of them have ever told anyone about these talks, although Tripitaka always suspected they were closer than they let on.

Okay, so I had this idea for a while after Season 5 dropped, and thought "instead of a red son and Mei episode, how about if we got a Wukong and Mei one?"

The idea is that Wukong and Mei got paired together, and they were attacked by the Celestial soldiers which caused them to crash near Kui Mulang's castle ruins. And during this, they have a heart to heart.

Part 3 of my JTTW designs!

Drawing Ao Lie in both his human (?) And horse form was a nightmare, animals are usually my least favorite thing to draw (and I still had a very difficult time figuring out what I was doing), but I'm proud of how it turned out! Also it's not important but I do hc Ao Lie as knowing how to play an Èrhú and I wanted an excuse to draw him playing one.

(Sandy and Pigsy were both vaguely inspired by @/Digitalagepulao's JTTW art)

I wasn't entirely sure what to do with Tripitaka's outfit while I was drawing him so there isn't much detail, but I added some extra patterns while drawing his headshot (I used @/Chiptrillino's ATLA Air Nomad art as a mini reference for the pattern and beads), I would've gone back and added it to his full body piece if I hadn't already saved it as a jpeg. Sorry :)

I really need wukong to talk about the pilgrims in the next season I just love how it's been centuries but he's still grieve them but doesn't talk about them

it's just shows how much he loved them and it's normal people who lose people they loved don't move on they just learn to live with the grief

he makes origami of them to watch the new year fireworks with him and keep those origami in his house on the table in front his couch that he sleeps on

For wukong they are the light in the darkness even though they're no longer here they're still the thing that saves wukong they're the thing he still seek to feel hope they'll always be a part of him

Ao Lie and Macaque would have a very interesting dynamic because of their past with Wukong

Think about it!

On one side we got Macaque, who never saw Wukong grow as a person, and become better.

While on the other side we got Ao Lie, who didnt see anything but Wukong evolve as a person on their JTTW.

And on top of that: There is even a chance they will met in future seasons!

As i talked about here, Macaque ending up in The Underworld in the next season is a really big possibilty. And since Ao Lie, based on very popular theories, is trapped in the scroll, IN THE UNDERWORLD, Macaque will be the only one in the main cast, able to free him.

And when that happens, a lot of misunderstandings could also finally be cleared out between Macaque and Wukong.

Because while Macaque, thought Wukong hated him and never wanted to see him again, after their fight and Wukong went on The JTTW, that couldnt be further from the truth.

They care so much for eachother, and you just dont stop caring for someone, thats acutally really hard.

And- Ao Lie would know that. He would know that Wukong never stopped caring/ missing Macaque, which would lead to a conversation like this:

Macaque: As soon as he went on that stupid Journey with you guys, he happily forgot about me, and left me in the shadows. Ao Lie: Honey- he didnt talk about anything BUT you. (It was sweet, but also incredbly annoying).
