a bad break up mixed with internal turmoil caused one rough night for axl, so much in fact that he was about to miss the bus for school.

"AXLENA!" frankie screamed throughout the house, calling for him to wake his ass up, although using his incorrect name to do so. "AXLENA, WAKE UP!"

"GOD, FINE!" axl finally responded and climbed out of his bed, annoyed at the fact that even though it's been a year since his outing, his own mother still refuses to use his name. he had gotten slightly used to the fact that his mother would never accept him, and for his father, well, he was barely in his life so axl didn't care for him anymore, especially when he still called axl by his deadname consistently. axl stood up from off the floor and grabbed some dirty clothes that he lazily threw around this room days before. making sure they were long sleeved, he quickly and effortlessly dressed up before he ran out his room to the front door but was interrupted by frankie standing in front of axl's way outside.

"aren't you going to say something?" she said with a cold attitude, knowing what axl was obliged to say since she was his mother.

"i-i love you too, mom." axl hesitated, quietly cringing to himself. he had questioned to himself if he actually loved frankie or he was just obligated because they were blood related, she had never accepted him since he came out over a year ago and it, of course, sadden him greatly. frankie smiled at him, like she actually cared for him, axl awkwardly smiled back at her, hoping that she would change and start loving him again like when he was a child.

"axl, hurry up! we're going to miss the bus, again!" sue called axl, rushing to him with a weirdly heavy bag for junior high. axl felt safe seeing sue again, she was his first family member who used axl's real name, brick slowly following but being "protected" by frankie and mike.

the heck children dashed outside, almost tripping on their feet trying to catch up to the bus, the cold autumn air disagreeing with their wishes. sue made it right before the bus started driving, standing in the open doorway, she yelled out for her brothers but brick was too slow. axl picked up his little brother and placed him on his shoulders and channeled all this strength into running while making sure brick didn't slip and fall. axl grasped the bus doors and jumped in front of his sister, gasping for a bit until the bus driver told them all to sit down. although brick didn't verbally thanked him, axl knew that brick appreciated him, and that made him more happier than what frankie made him feel. the hecks found a place to sit down, sue and brick sat with each other while axl sat by himself, deciding to get lost into some music for a while to past the time.

it felt like a while until the bus made it to axl's school, orson high. axl was the king there but recently, it felt like the popularity was artificial, fake, that no one actually liked him. at least sean and darrin seemed to really enjoy being around him, or was that fake too? axl worried, walking to his locker, stressing about more and more. earlier today walking inside of orson high, he thought he saw morgan multiple times which caused a lot of anxiety. mumbling to himself, axl closed his locker to meet the face of sean who was hiding behind the door of his locker. "AAAHH! GOD, SEAN, YOU BUTTHOLE!" he jumped, heart and mind racing. sean laughed and squeezed axl into an embrace which he winced in, arms being sensitive from what he did to himself last night.

"i wouldn't have taken the ax-man as a chicken!" sean playfully teased axl, letting go of him. axl chuckled embarrassingly, scratching his face, he would usually love sean's mischief but his mind was too hyperfocused on other things to enjoy him or anybody else.

"aw man, did i miss a bro cuddle?" darrin, with a disappointed face, walked next to sean from wherever the hell he once was.

"sorry bro but you did." sean scrunched his face and patted darrin on his shoulder, he shook his head defeatingily. axl smiled at his friends' tomfoolery, he was unbelievably grateful for his friends' acceptance of him, it truly felt like his friends loved him unconditionally.

"dude, are you alright?" darrin noticed axl's appearance, he had bags under his eyes and he was more quiet than usual.

"yeah, yeah, i'm alright." axl answered him, he didn't want his anybody to know what was happening to him mentally. sean looked at axl, frowning, sean knew he was lying for whatever reason. sean opened his mouth to ask axl what was actually happening but the bell rung out just in time to save him. "well, that's the bell. see you in 2nd period." axl walked off, leaving his friends at his locker. they didn't deserve to know axl's problems, it wasn't theirs to actively worry about, axl would hate himself even more if sean and darrin had to constantly stress about axl and his wellbeing.

2nd period, math. one of many of subjects axl sleeps through but considering how well he slept last night. "hey, ax-" sean scooted closer to the sleep deprived teen, making sure not to be been with his phone out in class. "i know what will cheer you up." he handed his phone to him, a message that read: "no parents, more fun!!! party at my place at 10!!! the more the better ;) xoxo" was opened. a party huh? axl grinned at sean, he was in. sean devilishly smiled back at the boy, quickly grabbing his phone from axl.

Ya corrieron a la Mary Sue de Fire Will Reign / Si no es la protagonista se muere / No sé quién será ella pero el staff hace un muy buen trabajo permitiendo que todos sean los protagonistas de sus propias.... // Es broma? Cada vez que alguien intentaba una trama y le quitaba luz a Rhaenys lo corrían del foro. La protagonista del fanfic siempre fue Rhaenys. Nunca, pero nunca, dejaron que Aegon o Visenya tuvieran trama y cuando lo intentaron todo era llanto porque no le daban atención a Rhaenys.

An unexpected turn of events after a movie date.

Author Note: Here’s a quick little Sue &  Sean fic, enjoy!

“Oh, come on that was the best part.” Sue dreamily sighed as she felt her boyfriend put his arm around her shoulder. She could breathe in the clean scent of his soap, the hint of his aftershave as he pulled her closer to her on the chilly spring night.

He chuckles, “I kind of liked the part where they were on the rooftop, looking out over the city.”

“Oh yeah?” Sue stops walking, standing so that they’re looking at each other. The air is moist from a quick rain shower that happened while they were in the movie.

“Yeah” he smiled as he rubs her upper arms, they’re not in the middle of the sidewalk, off to the side, not blocking anyone’s way as he leans in and kisses her.

Her arms relax as she pulls him in closer, the kiss deepening.

“Whoa, Sue?” The voice is familiar, a chill traveling down the spines of the couple as they break the kiss. “Sean?”

They look in the direction of the voice, standing in front of them is Darrin and a woman neither of them know. Sean feels Sue’s body tense against his as he looks at his old friend, a forced smile on his face, “Hey Buddy, it’s been a while.”

“Yeah, I guess it has.” Darrin looks at them both, his eyes darting from them both with confusion.

“How, how, how have you been?” Sue stumbles on her words for a moment as she studies the woman with Darrin.

“Good, working and married this great gal.” Darrin pulls his companion close.

“Congratulations” Sean proudly say, holding Sue close to him, “That’s great.”

“So, are you two married?” the voice is shrill, causing both Sean and Sue to blink in surprise.

“Not yet” Sean holds Sue’s left hand his thumb rubbing over her ring finger, he’s days away from proposing to her, the ring in the pocket of his jacket, afraid she’ll accidentally find it in his apartment.

“Maybe someday.” Sue shrugs, though she has started to wonder if Sean will propose.

“Did you go to school with Darrin?”

“Yeah, actually um Sean and my brother were his best friends.” She holds her breath as she watches the eyes widen on the women in front of her.

“Darrin, we’re going to be late.”

“Yes Missy, we should be going.” He looks at the couple in front of him, “You know, I think deep down I always knew you two would end up together.”

“It was good to see you again.” Sean tells him, “We’ll have to catch up sometime soon.”

“Yeah, maybe.” Darrin sees the glare from his wife, “You’re happy, right?”

“Very much so.” Sue confesses, seeing a sadness cross his features.

“Good.” Darrin gives them a tight smile before he leaves, looking back at them one last time.

Sue releases a breath once they’re out of view. “That was awkward.”

“Yeah it was” Sean squeezes her hand, “Did you know Darrin got married?”

“No, I had no idea.” She holds onto his hand as they start to walk down the street again, “When’s the last time the two of you talked?”

Sean sucked in a breath as the thought, “I think gosh, when I was in my hippie phase.”

“That was a while ago.” She moves a little closer to Sean.

“Yeah, I guess it was.” He can feel her fingers twisting on his jacket, “I’m glad he found someone.”

“So, am I,” she rests her hand on his chest, seeing his eyes look down, “Sean, what is it?”

“I’m really glad you didn’t marry Darrin.”

“I am too.” She confessed as she looked into his eyes.

Sean gulped, “I think this was how it was meant to be, you and me.”

“Yeah, I think so too.” She smiles starting to pull away when she takes her hand in his as he reaches into his jacket, “Sean, what are you doing?”

“When we were little I remember playing in your backyard, and we were playing wedding. That tree in the back that had the branches that intertwined, you always picked that as the location for the ceremony, and lately I’ve been thinking that’s the spot where I want to marry Sue.”

Her eyes widened as she listened to him, not able to speak as he continued.

“I’ve been carrying this around with me, so you wouldn’t find it. I had it all planned out to ask you Friday afternoon, in your parent’s backyard, but I knew right now I couldn’t wait.” He brought her hand to his lips kissing her ring finger, “Sue Sue Heck, will you please do me the honor of marrying me?”

“Yes, of course, yes!” She feels him slip the ring on her finger, she glances down at it long enough to see her birthstone before she kisses him.

Sean holds her for a moment returning the kiss before pulling back slightly, looking into her eyes, “I love you Sue.”

“I love you Sean.” Her fingers gently run over his hair, the rain starts to pour down on them, their clothes soaked in just a minute as they run to the car.

Sean looks over at her from the driver’s seat, a big smile on his lips.

“This is perfect, this is exactly the way things were meant to be.” She kisses him again.

“I think I still have to propose in the backyard, your mom and mine have been preparing for it for weeks.”

“I’ll act surprised, and I’ll say yes again.” She promises as she feels his fingers trace her face before he kisses her again.

The sound of the rain pounding on the car as they’re lost in the joy of the moment.

A warm morning, faint smell of dew in the air as the precipitation on your tent flaps drip down onto the grass below. Sunlight barely cascading over the landscape as you look upon the orange and red hues through the canvassed fabrics.

Your lover pressed against your back, arms wrapped around your chest; a hand resting softly over your nipple, up through your shirt.

Soft breathing escaping Seans open mouth, you shuffle around trying not to wake up, turning to look your love in the eyes but his arms don’t allow it. He grips you tighter, his eyes squinting and mouth closing with a soft snort.

“Hm, what’s going on?” He asks, weary and tired, eyes opening and closing as he adjusts to his newfound consciousness, arms still encasing you in their safety, his hips grinding softly against yours.

“You’re waking up that’s what, and you don’t have to poke me I’m awake too” You reply, a smirk on your lips as you softly grab his thigh.

“I ain’t pokin ya, my arms are around ya (Y/N)” Sean gives a half-hearted chuckle as you look between his arms and the tent

“Then whats-” Your eyes widen as Sean shifts his hips once more, his head jerkin up, a soft ‘oh’ escaping both of you as you realise what’s going on.

“I thought it was a dream, but I guess not?” Arms still wrapped around you, Seans head now nuzzles into your neck, you can feel his smile through your own skin, “Would be a waste if we didn’t do anything about it though, right?”

What happens when you get a bunch of YouTubers together for a classic Whodunnit?  Chaos and hilarity in sue!

Minecraft:  I’m not big into Minecraft but it is very funny seeing Mark and Sean play this and see what they come up with!

I Am Bread:  This is a rage game just letting you know ahead of time!  But it is funny seeing Mark rage out of the game!  But like I said this is a rage game so there is some yelling/screaming in it!

Getting Over It:  This another rage game!  It is quite funny but like I said it is a Rage Game so there is screaming and yelling involved!

Pogo Stuck:  This is a somewhat kind of rage game!  It first starts out with Bob, Wade, and Mark playing it.  But then Mark starts playing it by himself and yes there is some yelling and screaming in the videos so fair warning!

Uno:  This is quite a hilarious game series!  It’s Mark and his friends playing the online game of Uno!

Monopoly:  This a goo game series and is quite hilarious!  It’s Mark, Bob and Wade and there is one where Lixian joins!  It really funny and think you might enjoy it!

Undertale:  The best way to start you off with JackSepticeye is one of his most famous series of all time, Undertale!  Undertale is about a human that falls in the Monster World and go about it learning the Monster World while trying to get home! It’s a text based game and Jack does the voices for the characters!

Deltarune:  The Sequel to Undertale!  Or that’s what everyone seems to be calling it!  I haven’t had the chance to watch the series but I’ve heard it’s really good!

Slime Rancher:  Literally you are a Rancher raising all kinds of different slimes!  It’s really cute and funny!

Cuphead:  This is a very old school cartoon like style game.  There is some violence in it but it’s mild and no more then what actual cartoons, like Tom and Jerry and the Animatics.

Bendy and the Inc Machine:  This is a horror game but it’s not the scary!  There are some jump scares but it’s more like FNAF kind of jump scare.  So, it will be scare ya but not that much.  It’s like a cartoon horror game.  Again some violence in the game but it’s mild.  This also kinda of spawn the idea of the JSE Fan Made Ego Shawn Flynn!  Jack has a cameo in the game!

Animal Crossing:  Nice little story driven game that Jack plays on his switch.  It’s very cute and it’s a nice little game to series to watch!

Spiderman:  Jack finally gets to play as his all time favorite Super Hero from his childhood!  Spiderman!

Spiderman Miles Morales:  The next gen starts now!  With the new Spiderman!  This game is based of the movie Spiderman into the Spider verse and I can’t wait to watch it and watch this series of Jack’s!

Spyro 3: Remake:  This is a cute series of the game Spyro 3 redone for the PS3!  It’s super cute and a lot of fun!  I think you might enjoy this one!

Minecraft:  Like I said, I’m not into Minecraft but this is a nice and cute series that Jack has!  Filled with a lot of Adventure and some scary events!

Meme Time!:  A cute series that Jack started where he goes on his Subreddit and looks at some of our Memes that we did!

Luigi’s Mason 3:  I can’t make a playlist for someone to watch and not include this!  This is so cute and wholesome!  It’s all from Luigi’s point of view and how he’s going to try and stop the Ghost King and save his brother and friends!

Among Us:  I have to include Jack’s!  This is so funny with Jack and his friends!  I think you might enjoy this!

This a YouTuber that I found when I went browsing for Markiplier and JackSepticeye fan-made games!  DolphinTreasureArt plays fan-made games and indie games on her channel.  Along with some Cosplays and Artwork that she has done.  Some of her Fanart has gotten in a couple of fan games!

Septiscape:  First off, this series is near and dear to my heart!  This is the first ever series that watched back in 2k18 when I first found Erin’s Channel!  This helped me get over my writers block and led to me to writing my first fanfic that I wrote in over a year!  This one is an older version but I still love it!

Jack finds himself trapped in his own mind, the Mindscape and is trying to find his way home!  Along the way he finds out the Egos that he created are more then just Egos!  But at the same time, some sort of Corruption and happening with Jack’s mind and many of the Ego’s Worlds is collapsing!

Septiscape: Livestream #HopeFromHome:  This is the livestream of the updated version of the game!  It’s about 8 hours long but you can skip some parts, especially since some of the fights can be a bit repetive but I wanted to include this one!  

Soulscape:  I can’t put in Septiscape and not give you the sequel as well!  This is the well awaited sequel to Septiscape!  After the adventures of the first game, the Egos go and try to enjoy a nice little R&R only for someone to stalking Anti and trying to take his soul pieces back!  Join Anti and the Egos as they try to figure out what it going on and help save Anti before it’s too late!  And there is really cool plot twist!

Hearts and Heroes:  This is another one that is near and dear to my heart! I will also link Mark’s playthrough as well!  Hearts and Heroes and about you the fans of Markiplier and the journey that the fans go through trying to help save people from the Monsters the haunt their dreams and to help save Mark from his worst Nightmare.  Markiplier’s Playthrough here.

Septiclands: A JackSepticeye Fan Game:  This is very funny series that DolphinTreasureArt has done!  It’s silly and goofy and it has a very weird plot but it’s absolutely one of my favorites!  It’s also on her longest series as well!

The Boss: A JackSepticeye Fan Game:  Just like Heats and Heroes is near and dear to me heart so is this game!  I’ll leave a link to Jack’s Playthrough as well!  This is near and dear to my heart b/c it’s the first JackSepticeye Fan Game that I came across.  It was on Jack’s Channel that first saw it and then I watched Erin’s.  This is nice little RPG Game, but it’s about Jack being sucked into his computer and has to try and find his way home! On the way he finds out that there is two subscribers that lost in his computer and there is a major twist at the end!

The Boss Is Nothing: His Side of the Story:  I don’t want to give away what happens in the Boss!  So, this the other side of the story of The Boss!  In the Boss, Jack comes across someone he never thought he would, so now we’re getting his side of the story and why did what he did to Jack!

Glitch in the System: Chapter 1:  This is a very special game!  It’s the sequel to The Boss!  The developers over at Sarcastic Pasta Games is working hard to get chapter two out!  Chapter one is really good and you get see Erin do some Cosplay along with some voice acting for the characters/Egos!

Septic Storm:  This is a cute little fan game that’s a bit old, but it’s a very cute RPG Game!  Join, Jack, Mark and Felix as they battle Billy to end this battle once and for all!  Only to find out that Billy isn’t the one that truly is behind this, but someone else entirely!

CrankGamePlays Fan Game: The Crank Chronicles:  This is a RPG Fan Game of one Ethan Nester CrankGamePlays!  Ethan has find himself in a distant land thanks to the help of a powerful Sorceress!  But an evil threatens the land!  With help of his two best friends Mark and Tyler, Ethan goes on a quest to help save this land and find his way home!  I don’t if the developer ever did the sequel to the this game or not but it’s not a bad game!

49) Can you remember the first fic you read? What was it about?

I was asked this by Fedonciadale, but I’ll try to go more into detail if I can.

I really want to say Newsies was my first intro to fanfiction. Usually stories posted onto individual geocities fansites. A lot of stories of OC insert “girl Newsies” who interacted with their favorite newsboys from the movie.

I distinctly remember one that my sister and I printed out onto paper (it was like a whopping 200+ pages) and passed around during a Christmas vacation. The OC got pregnant from her favorite Newsboy “Mush” and had twins I think. I can’t remember if she died in childbirth or not, tbh. Seems like that would be par for the course.

Harry Potter I found a lot on message forums at the time. Once again, a lot of OC self inserts of girl students going to Hogwarts. Mary Sues abound. I had big crushes on Tom Felton/Draco Malfoy and Sean Biggerstaff/Oliver Wood so a lot of stories involving those two.

Oddly enough, I’m completely blanking on individual stories. I think they all just blend together at some point or I’m remembering my own HP OC fics. Some more distinct memories are coming from fics I read later, I know. None of those early HP fics are standing out to me at all.

Lord of the Rings - man. Talk about a fandom that was in an identity crisis in the early 2000s. Lots of younger, newer fans like me writing self insert OCs because of the movies coming out, mixed in with all the OG book fans writing world heavy lore.

Standing out in my mind? There was a short “lemon” of Aragorn and Legolas getting it on in the forest. A lot time-travel self insert fics of girls being magically transported to the middle of the story. RPFs of fans having relationships with the actors. (One where a girl started dating Elijah Wood, got pregnant, there was an entire chapter of going to the abortion clinic. Or the one where the entire cast of LotR was put on a deserted island for a season of Survivor, and Elijah’s black mesh top was a Very Important Character.) Elf OCs being saved by the gang. (I remember one scene of Gimli checking to see if she was still breathing by using a sword to check for fog. My 11 year old mind was blown.) A lot of Elvish dialogue followed by < … > translations.

And I recall these with love. They might be bizarre to imagine reading now, but I devoured a lot of fanfic in those years. Anything I could get my hands on. Self insert OCs were my jam. Fics following the plot of the movies/books my butter. It might be a combination of how much I was reading and how young I was that they all just blend together now.

If we’re talking like “big fics” that I followed and remember fondly as big pivotal moments in my FanFiction life that I still remember the titles of, I’d have to fast forward to around 2003/2004/2005 with fics like “Piracy, Lust, then Love” by Ana the Romantic (a PotC fic) or “An Acorn and a Thimble” (a Peter Pan fic) or “Lust or Love” by Sarianelli (a Lily/James HP fic) , or “Tales from the House of the Moon” by Resmiranda (a Sess/Kag inuyasha fic).

I do remember saving a brand new POTC fic I saw on the “just published” page with only one chapter that was a parody/comedy crack fic that looked promising, and checking back in a few years later to find out that fic became one of the most popular on all of fanficfion.net. I was like “I was there when you only had 3 reviews…”)

HETALIA Y COUNTRYHUMANS: Pros y Contras

ORIGINAL ENGLISH POST: HERE

Hola! Espero que ustedes, sus familias y sus amigos se encuentren bien y que se estén cuidando mucho. Esta es la traducción al español de un post que escribí en inglés hace más de un año, con algunas modificaciones. Decidí volver a publicarlo y esta vez en español, porque creo que sigue siendo necesario hablar de este tema del que casi nadie ha dicho nada, no sin comenzar una guerra ardida de fandoms.

Antes que nada, POR FAVOR LES PIDO QUE NO COMIENCEN CON “MI FANDOM ES MEJOR QUE EL TUYO”. A mí en lo personal me gustan ambos, y los dos tienen tanto cosas buenas, así como malas. Ninguno de los dos puede presumir haber tenido un fandom sano y no pueden negar que en algún momento han generado polémica. 

También esto no se trata de descubrir quién lo hizo antes o mejor, porque seamos honestos, personificar países no es una idea actual y original. Éstas personificaciones ya existían desde hace varios años atrás, ahí tienen al tío Sam (U.S.A.), Marianne (Francia), John Bull (Reino Unido), etc.

Así que sin más que decir, analicemos los pros y contras de Hetalia y de Countryhumans.

HETALIA:

Pros:

Siendo el trabajo de un sólo autor, todos los personajes tienen un diseño y una personalidad establecidos. Si bien el fandom de Hetalia suele olvidar, flanderizar, o tomarse licencias creativas en alguna de estas características, al menos existe un material canónico que puedes consultar y te dice como funciona este universo y sus personajes.

El autor, Himaruya Hidekaz, pudo haberse ido por un camino convencional, que es el que muchas películas y libros utilizan al momento de situar una historia en eventos históricos, las cuales normalmente son de carácter bélico, como las dos guerras mundiales; y éste camino es el de representar al bando protagonista como los héroes y al bando enemigo como los villanos a los cuáles hay que derrotar. Pero afortunadamente él no lo hizo. A diferencia de estos medios, Hetalia es una sátira histórica, incluso cultural, en la que los personajes no son ni buenos ni malos, lo que me lleva al siguiente punto:

En Hetalia, ningún país recibe mejor o peor trato que los demás. Personalmente es difícil escoger un personaje favorito, ya que cada uno tiene lo suyo y ninguno recibe el tratamiento Mary Sue. Himaruya diseña a sus personajes basándose en los estereotipos tanto buenos como malos. Debo agregar que éstos se presentan de una forma natural y no son tan forzados a comparación de Countryhumans. Se puede notar que el autor investigó más allá de los estereotipos clásicos que todo el mundo conoce, y nos brinda más información que desconocíamos del país y de su forma de vivir. Y para beneficio de Hetalia, esto hace que se nos presenten más historias y situaciones cómicas a la hora de mostrar eventos históricos y choques culturales.

Las naciones no tienen poder sobre sus jefes (presidentes, reyes, primer ministros, etc.) Himaruya de esta forma justifica algunos de los eventos históricos más polémicos y terribles. Si bien el manga y el anime están enfocados principalmente en la comedia, y evitan tocar temas fuertes y sensibles, el autor ha dejado bien claro que los países deben seguir órdenes de sus jefes, les guste o no. Por ejemplo: En el manga Alemania llega a decir que su jefe (ustedes saben a quién me refiero) está loco, al punto de mandarlo a buscar el Santo Grial. Y también estaba en desacuerdo con la anexión de Austria, pero por presión de su jefe se vió forzado a obedecerlo. 

Cierto que hay veces en las que se les puede ver discutiendo y compartiendo ideas y opiniones con sus jefes. Si quieren realizar alguna acción primero deben consultarlo con ellos y obtener su aprobación. ¡E incluso hay ocasiones en las que las naciones no están enteradas de las cosas que sus jefes realizan! 

Por ende, las naciones representan al pueblo, no a las ideologías y a las políticas de sus gobernadores. 

Contras:

Aunque Himaruya se esfuerza por darnos personajes con personalidades llamativas y que están inspiradas en la historia y el modo de vivir de la gente de cada país... ha metido la pata en algunas ocasiones, y esto ha llegado a tener duras consecuencias, como fue el caso del gobierno de Corea Sur, quienes prohibieron en su país la distribución del manga y no permitieron que la representación de su nación saliera en el anime, todo por el diseño y la forma en que era retratado, sin mencionar la rivalidad que existe entre los coreanos y Japón. 

Del mismo modo, algunas personalidades que les proporcionó a las naciones no parecen ser las correctas. Por ejemplo, muchos fans están de acuerdo en que, aunque los personajes de Finlandia y Suecia son agradables, el autor accidentalmente intercambió sus personalidades. Finlandia en vez de ser un país serio y disciplinado, es dulce y a veces se describe así mismo como frágil y delicado; y Suecia en lugar de ser un país alegre y divertido, es de expresión fría e intimidante, aunque eso no quita que sea de buen corazón. 

Un consejo, no siempre usen ni el manga ni el anime (y menos el fandom!) como una fuente de investigación para su siguiente examen de historia. 

Con toda esta información, Hetalia no es para todos. No toda la gente es fanática de la sátira que involucra estereotipos, o situar historias en eventos que para muchos deberían ser consideradas como trágicas. (Pregúnteles a los haters de Jojo Rabbit) Desde mi punto de vista, Hetalia inconscientemente muestra lo inútil que son las guerras. En cuanto a los estereotipos, nunca faltará la clásica persona que dirá “No! No todos en mi país son así! Esto no me representa!” Yo les puedo decir que si bien no suelo decir tantos mexicanismos, no bebo tequila ni me gusta el fútbol, siempre puedo reírme de los estereotipos de mi país, siempre y cuando no lleguen a un nivel racista y denigrante. Y hablando de México...

La ausencia de varios países latinoamericanos, así como de países africanos, es una de las razones por la que algunos fans tienen una relación amor-odio con Hetalia. Si bien las primeras tiras se enfocaban en los países que conformaron principalmente a los Aliados y al Eje durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, Himaruya eventualmente comenzó a introducir a otros países (incluso micronaciones!), así como otros eventos históricos que podían ir desde la Antigüedad hasta nuestra era contemporánea. Y aún así con esta expansión, todavía no contamos con suficientes latinos o africanos! En parte puedo entender el por qué. Por lo que me contó una amiga de cuando visitó Japón, y por lo que he visto en internet, los japoneses tienen un concepto erróneo de la cultura latina, y en gran parte es debido a la forma en que los estadounidenses han retratado a los mexicanos (recordemos que muchos de ellos piensan que Latinoamérica es solo México) en medios de comunicación como el cine y la televisión. Esto algo triste porque, en mi caso, mi país tiene muchas historias interesantes que involucran a otras naciones. Y sobre los 

Los pocos personajes de género femenino en Hetalia. Sí, tenemos Nyotalia, que prácticamente es un universo alterno en el que los géneros de los países se intercambian, haciendo que ahora la mayoría de ellos sean mujeres, pero no deja de ser un AU, por lo que en el universo normal de Hetalia tenemos a más hombres que mujeres. Aparentemente Himaruya tiene preferencia o facilidad en crear a más personajes masculinos que femeninos. Ha llegado a compartir que originalmente personajes como Portugal, Suiza, Corea y Polonia iban a ser chicas, pero por alguna razón cambió de parecer y las transformó en chicos. No sabría decir como escoge el género de cada uno de los países, pero sería genial ver a más chicas dentro de este universo, e Himaruya ha demostrado que sus personajes femeninos, tales como Hungría o Bielorrusia, no se limitan por su género y tienen personalidades fuertes e interesantes. 

COUNTRYHUMANS:

Pros:

Aparentemente Countryhumans es una creación libre de derechos de autor. El mismo fandom ha contribuido a la creación de los personajes, y al no tener una base canon sólida, cualquier persona puede tener su propia visión de como lucen los países y cómo son sus personalidades. (Lo que no es muy complicado, ya que el diseño genérico de los Countryhumans consiste en usar los colores de las banderas de los países como su tono de piel, no suelen tener cabello y sus ojos son completamente blancos, así que al creador solo le queda elegir la ropa, la cual a veces también es creada por una persona del fandom, y el resto se la copia o se inspira en ella)

Los países que no encuentras en Hetalia los puedes hallar aquí! En este fandom están más que presentes los latinoamericanos, y los fans se han encargado de crear historias en las que los vemos interactuar entre ellos y con otros países. Además, algunos creadores han hecho un gran trabajo describiendo la personalidad de cada uno, convirtiéndolos en personajes carismáticos y divertidos. 

El fandom puede compartir más anécdotas desconocidas de su país, ya que algunos de los integrantes de esta comunidad tienen un vasto conocimiento del lugar en el que habitan, y en general, todo el fandom puede compartir cómo es la cultura y modo de vivir en su país, basándose en sus experiencias personales. Por lo que podemos decir que, parcialmente, la representación de las naciones en Countryhumans es un poco más precisa. (Tomen nota: “Parcialmente”, y en un momento sabrán porque digo esto)

Entonces, si tienes un material libre de derechos de autor, y no estás de acuerdo con la forma en que se representa a tu país, simplemente lo reescribes y lo rediseñas y así todos estamos todos contentos, verdad? Pues...

Constras:

Lo que puede ser un pro también puede ser un contra. Countryhumans al no contar con un material que pueda ser considerado oficialmente como canon, es difícil para el fandom decidir cuáles representaciones son las más acertadas, habiendo tantos fanfics así como comics y fanarts, que realizados por una gran cantidad de personas. Por supuesto que los creadores de contenido que alcanzan más popularidad entre la comunidad son los que llegan a establecer ciertos rasgos y características de los personajes, que posteriormente son copiados por el resto de los fans para seguir generando contenido. Aún así, algunos de estos autores han cometido el error fatal de convertir a ciertos países en Mary Sues, (Sí, también hay Mary Sues en Hetalia, pero esos OCs son creados por fans, no por el autor) dándoles más prioridad que al resto de los personajes.

Si bien en todos los fandoms existen los ships, se podría decir que la popularidad de Countryhumans se debió principalmente a este factor. El ver a países siendo emparejados y teniendo escenas, uhm... subidas de tono, es lo que ha llamado la atención de varios fans, y a la vez una de las razones por las que algunas personas han tachado al fandom de ser morboso y tóxico, al lado de otras comunidades como la de Gacha Life. Reitero, ningún fandom se salva de los ships y de cosas relacionadas a la regla 34, pero sí es cierto que muchos de los fanfics y fanarts de Countryhumans tienen como temática los emparejamientos de países, los multiships, las tramas románticas estilo telenovela, los harems, etc. Y al hacer esto, muchos fans ignoran las verdaderas relaciones diplomáticas entre las países, los hechos históricos y las diferencias culturales, y justifican, a veces de manera muy forzada o poco creíble, el por qué estos personajes funcionarían como pareja. 

Y aquí vienen los temas polémicos... Recordarán que dije que en Hetalia el autor no divide a los países en héroes y villanos. Pues el fandom de Countryhumans a veces cuenta con este problema. Ejemplo, en algunos fanfics en los que México es el personaje principal, suelen poner a Estados Unidos como un déspota que hace lo que hace... solo porque sí, sin una justificación sólida ni profundización del personaje, únicamente tomando como base la perspectiva que muchos mexicanos tienen de Estados Unidos. No negaré el hecho de que esta nación haya hecho cosas malas en el pasado, pero México tampoco es una blanca paloma. 

Mucha gente del fandom ignora la complejidad de las relaciones internacionales. Por ejemplo, es gracioso que muchos fans de Countryhumans retraten a Francia e Inglaterra como una pareja enamorada y casada, solo por el hecho de que ambos países fueron los que colonizaron e influyeron más en Canadá y en Estados Unidos, ignorando por completo que estos dos países, por muchos siglos, han tenido conflictos y rivalidades. Incluso hasta hoy, todavía existe cierta “amienemistad” entre ambos, como es el caso entre México y Estados Unidos. 

La forma en la que los fans justifican los eventos trágicos y polémicos del pasado, es separando al país en personajes diferentes, uno que represente el actual y otro que represente a los gobiernos del pasado. Así tenemos a personajes como la Alemania Naz* y la Unión Soviética, que son completamente diferentes a la Alemania actual y a Rusia. Si bien es una buena forma de justificar las acciones que estos países han realizado a lo largo de la historia, el problema llega en la forma en que varios fans representan a estos personajes...

Así, Countryhumans tampoco es un fandom accesible para todo el mundo. En la actualidad todavía hay gente que es muy sensible al tema del naz*smo, y que considera a la Unión Soviética como un régimen represivo, particularmente la dictadura de Stalin; y si estas personas llegan a ver a éstos dos representados de forma “linda”, “sexy”, “cute” y/o “kawaii” ... puede ser bastante cringe y perturbador. Como dije antes, al menos en Hetalia el autor intenta evitar temas polémicos, (independientemente de que en el anime, el doblaje hecho en Estados Unidos se pasó de la raya con algunos chistes de humor negro) y en los contenidos creados por fans en los que se muestra una versión más oscura de los personajes, no deja de ser eso, un contenido creado por fans, que tampoco son del agrado de la mayoría de la comunidad.

En conclusión, ambos tienen tanto cosas buenas como malas. Sí, ambos cuentan con una parte del fandom que es tóxica, pero también hay gente que, más allá de los ships, le interesa la historia y que le gusta ver como han evolucionado las relaciones entre las naciones, así como conocer datos que no sabían de cada país. 

Hetalia hace sátira de la historia y se burla de los conflictos bélicos, así como de los estereotipos de los países, mientras que Countryhumans hace lo mismo, pero también explora cosas que el universo de Hetalia no ha hecho, como ver a otros países, datos oscuros de la historia, etc.

En ambos casos, podemos decir que la historia universal es bastante compleja, que es difícil ser 100% preciso cuando la intentas explicar a través de representaciones antropomorfas de las naciones. Aún así, es más divertido y más fácil aprender de historia y de diferentes culturas a través de estos medios, que de un libro de texto escolar. Si eres fan de Hetalia o de Countryhumans, disfrútalos y de preferencia evita la parte tóxica del fandom :)

9:50pm, only a few minutes until the party. axl stood up in his room, looking over to his little brother, sleeping peacefully. a smiled was placed on axl's face but quickly removed as he walked over to the window and opened it, sean waiting for him outside. before he hopped out the window, he glanced at brick again and quietly wished; "you and sue deserve better."

axl walked up to sean, sean grinning at him. "you ready?"

"i guess i am"

near the entrance to the house party, cars and other teenagers littering outside. now that axl actually thought about it, he had no idea who was hosting the party but they did seem flirty in the invite text. axl, sean and darrin walked into the house to be greeted with more teenagers and stereotypical red plastic cups everywhere. axl suddenly felt anxious, wanting to stay in a corner with what felt like his only friends for the rest of the night, but something instantly caught his eye. an attractive tall african american boy siting on a couch, he was drinking something out of a plastic cup and was staring at axl. axl felt uncomfortable being so fondly stared at, thankfully sean noticed and nudged him, signaling that their group would be going into a different room.

they made their way to a different room which was the kitchen and somehow more messy than the livingroom but instead of plastic cups thrown everywhere it was empty glass alcohol bottles. sean frowned, even though he was an adolescent teen, he still hated alcohol and such of the like. darrin had other ideas; "this party ain't too bad." he tried lightening up the disappointed group, raiding the cupboards for food. "you think there's gonna be some pretty girls here?"

"yeah, probably," sean began smiling to him. "there's a lot of people here." sean turned to axl, suggesting that they should go off with some girls for the night, axl chuckled at him.

"who the fuck is going through my cupboards again?!" the attractive boy came into the kitchen angrily until he realized axl was there. "oh hi, sorry for staring so much at you, you're just so hot." he apologized and placed his hand out which axl accepted until the boy said the last part of his sentence. "im hutch, well, my actual name is charles but everybody calls me hutch." hutch beamed at him, staring at him again. "i don't think ive met you before, what's your name?"

"oh, um, axl- axl heck." axl awkwardly answered hutch, hoping sean would get him out of this like he did before. hutch lovingly smiled at him; "welcome to the party, axl!"

"thank you, dude." axl could practically see hutch's thoughts about him, he sorta liked it in a way.

"ahem! other people in the room too?" sean made a loud coughing noise to get hutch's and axl's attention toward him and darrin.

"oh, right, sorry fellas." hutch faced them, trying to be as polite as possible. "you would like a drink?"

"no thanks, im not into alcohol." sean declined, shaking his head with darrin, if they were caught drunk, they would be killed by their families, metaphorically speaking.

"axl?" he slided to the socially awkward teen, rising an eyebrow jokingly.

"i don't have a lot to lose, sure." axl stated, shrugging his shoulders. unlike his firends, he didn't care about what people thought of him anymore, or that's what he liked it think about himself. he knew he would get into deep shit and he secretly wanted it. hutch handed him a plastic cup with the alcohol and he chugged the whole thing before dropping and stomping it on the floor to everyone's amazement. axl felt a quick rush through his body then an instant warm low, he made a involuntary "ahhuck!" noise from the feeling and taste. "another." he command, hutch chuckled and bit his lip while sean and darrin began to worry.

"remember to go easy with the drinks, buddy." sean warned axl but he didn't take, he just wanted the feelings to go away. he hated those feelings and those memories of his parents hating him, he wanted to forget, please let him forget.

everything was getting blurry, axl had forgotten how many drinks he had but he knew that he somehow made it to hutch's bedroom,they were cuddling and axl's favorite song was softly playing somewhere in hutch's room. "do you know how fucking gorgeous you are?" hutch stroke axl's cheek, giggling a bit. he didn't know how to feel anymore, the alcohol did its work. he finally didn't worry about frankie and mike for this moment but he should have guessed what hutch had plans to do. hutch held axl's face and looking longingly into his eyes, after a while hutch lightly kissed axl on his lips. axl pulled in closer, holding hutch's hips. axl loved this, he loved disobeying his parents. he knew that identifying as a boy then playing with another boy would make his parents unbelievably pissed, and he loved it but still something in his head was screaming; "either get me off or get off me now!" axl didn't want to listen to that voice, he wanted to live. the boys chuckled as they rolled over each other, making out on hutch's bed. axl was finally free for the night and damn he was going to enjoy all of it even if he got that feeling, that feeling undescribable of disgust but he pushed on. and on. "i love you, ax." and on.

Opiniones sobre Sonic - 2

En grandes porciones de todos los fandoms, parece imperar la idea de que sólo podés tomar una de dos posiciones: alabar la historia en todos sus aspectos, incluyendo tanto las ideas en sí como su ejecución por parte de los escritores, o admitir que la obra no te gusta y que tampoco admiras absolutamente ningún elemento de ella. Creo que mis ideas con respecto a los cómics de Archie-Sonic y a la franquicia de Sonic en general no pueden ser encasilladas en ninguno de estos dos extremos.

Me encantó toda la construcción de mundo en Archie-Sonic, los elementos que el cómic introdujo, sus muchos personajes y el potencial para contar historias sobre ellos; también me gustó mucho gran parte del arte y los estilos personales de varios de los artistas que Archie-Sonic ha tenido a lo largo de su historia, con muy pocas excepciones (y tales excepciones incluyen a Ron Lim, por supuesto). Es por eso que, de todas las continuidades de Sonic, suelo usar el cómic de Archie-Sonic pre-reinicio como la principal fuente de elementos para construcción de mundo y de ideas para historias.

Lo que realmente me cae mal de aquel cómic, lo que motiva la mayor parte de mis críticas, es la ejecución de las ideas por parte de los escritores principales, así como aspectos que creo que están más ligados a cada escritor como persona, la forma única y particular en que cada uno de ellos ha escrito sus historias.

En primer lugar, Michael Gallagher: el responsable de escribir las primeras decenas de números del cómic tenía un sentido del humor espantoso, y esto perjudicó enormemente a los cómics porque aquellos primeros números se basaban fundamentalmente en ese estilo de comedia de tan baja calidad. La caracterización de todo el elenco también sufrió mucho por esto; en el caso de Sally, también se dio algo bastante irónico: Gallagher la retrató como alguien mandona, molesta, de temperamento impredecible, usualmente discutiendo con Sonic por cosas triviales, y ahora ese es también el modo en que muchos fans de la continuidad de los videojuegos ven a Sally (en el mejor de los casos). Aparte de esto, no se podría decir mucho más de él.

Karl Bollers escribió historias bastante aceptables y con un estilo de humor ameno, siendo “Retorno a la Isla del Ángel” su mejor historia y una de las mejores en todo el cómic y quizás incluso la franquicia; pero la obra de Bollers fue “torpedeada” por Ken Penders y el entonces editor Justin Gabrie, lo cual arruinó el resultado final en algunas ocasiones o llevaba a que los elementos introducidos por Bollers sean “retconeados” y sobre-escritos por lo que sea que Penders se haya fumado y decidiera hacer al hacerse cargo. La caracterización de Fiona Fox es uno de los principales ejemplos, siendo la Fiona de Bollers un personaje bastante poco usado pero con un gran potencial que tanto Penders como Ian Flynn echaron a perder más tarde. Otro caso similar fue Sally rompiendo con Sonic: Bollers intentó darle contexto a esta decisión tan drástica por parte de Sally y mostrar cómo ella fue la que más estaba sufriendo en ese momento y también que tanto ella como Sonic tenían razón en parte, pero Penders y Gabrie no permitieron que Bollers desarrollara esta subtrama como es debido y lo único que tuvimos fue una escena bastante infame que injustamente convirtió a Sally en uno de los personajes más odiados. También se sabe de varios planes que Bollers tenía para futuras historias, uno de los cuales era Antoine siendo corrompido por la Fuente de Todo y volviéndose un villano; esto tenía potencial para ser una buena historia al subvertirse el concepto de la Fuente de Todo y convertirlo en una verdadera amenaza, pero por otra parte, habría significado recurrir una vez más a la idea de “este personaje no está haciendo nada, vamos a convertirlo en villano”, algo bastante decepcionante y que más tarde tendría resultados desastrosos cuando Flynn hizo lo mismo con Fiona unos años después. Sin embargo, estos planes de Bollers eran sólo ideas, y la calidad de una historia creada a partir de ellas todavía depende mucho de la ejecución. Al final, no puedo decir nada acerca de qué tan bueno o qué tan mediocre era Bollers como escritor, simplemente porque no tengo forma de saber cómo habrían sido sus historias si le hubieran dado más libertad y él hubiera sido escritor por más tiempo.

Hubo dos escritores que influenciaron los cómics de Archie-Sonic mucho más que cualquier otro escritor de su historia: Penders y Flynn. El primero de ellos era un pervertido retrógrada con un ego demasiado inflado y demasiado frágil. Se obsesionó con el primitivo y tóxico ideal de “familia” que los estadounidenses tienen. Escribía historias sin sentido y contradictorias, donde él ya había decidido el final hasta el último detalle mucho antes de siquiera pensar cómo la historia llegaría a ese final (este error específico también lo cometí yo en un par de ocasiones cuando recién empezaba a escribir fanfics, debo admitir). Le aumentó la edad a Fiona para poder emparejarla con el Don Juan en el que Sonic se había convertido, lo cual también arruinó para siempre la caracterización de Fiona. La época del número 150 al 159 -justo antes de que Flynn tomara su lugar- fue la peor parte de su carrera, pues Bollers ya no estaba allí para poner algún tipo de freno a su locura, y fue en está época cuando se dio el caso más escandaloso de Penders volcando en el cómic sus peores perversiones e ideas retardadas: él insinuó una escena sexual en uno de los casos más infames de la historia de toda la franquicia de Sonic, aunque no fue infame por el acto sexual insinuado per se sino porque lo sucedido fue técnicamente una violación mediante engaño; para colmo de males, el escritor implícitamente le echó la culpa a la víctima unos años más tarde, cuando le preguntaron sobre el tema en Twitter.

Podría seguir hablando del pervertido mayor de Archie-Sonic, pero creo que eso no hace falta y sería un desperdicio de tiempo dado que, como todos acá ya saben, él es desde hace años el hazmerreír de toda la franquicia de Sonic; @ponett incluso tiene todo un blog secundario, @thankskenpenders, dedicado principalmente a esto. Por otro lado, todavía queda otro escritor que también ha contribuido mucho y también cometió errores garrafales pero no es criticado en lo más mínimo por casi nadie, simplemente porque fue mejor que Penders.

Ian Flynn usualmente reducía a los personajes a representaciones un poco demasiado simplificadas, similares a las personalidades de los personajes en los videojuegos más recientes. Bajo su pluma, Sonic era más simpático pero sus palabras a veces sonaban demasiado vacías y superficiales, sus disculpas por errores pasados no llevaban a cambios genuinos por su parte, y a veces incluso parecía lisa y llanamente alguien insensible ante todas las tragedias que sucedían a su alrededor en momentos tales como el Arco de Mecha Sally (yo le doy al Sonic de Ian Flynn el apodo “Sonrisa de Plástico” por ello). Hay que admitir que esto ya había pasado varias veces con escritores anteriores (Penders retratando a Sonic como un Don Juan, como ya mencioné), y es por esto que creo que el Sonic original de Sonic SatAM siempre fue mejor por sentirse más “genuino”, menos “vacío”, y más heroico y simpático como resultado. Quizás los únicos que se han salvado de ser retratados de esta manera sobre-simplificada hayan sido Shadow y Omega, cuyas caracterizaciones en Archie-Sonic fueron las mejores en la franquicia entera.

Además, Flynn tenía un fuerte favoritismo por Amy Rose, lo cual no hacía más que empeorar las cosas debido a que esta Amy era bastante similar a la de los videojuegos desde Sonic Heroes en adelante. De todos modos, esto también sucedió con escritores anteriores, como cuando Amy deseó ser más joven a costa de la vida de la madre de Sally y nadie jamás la reprendió por ello.

Pasemos a los villanos. A diferencia del Eggman típico de los videojuegos, con sus locuras, excentricidades y aspectos tan absurdos, el Robotnik que el cómic “heredó” de Sonic SatAM era explícitamente un genocida y alguien más cruel mientras a la vez tenía la cordura suficiente para darse cuenta de todo lo que hacía (@robotnik-mun ya habló en detalle sobre esto en una ocasión); sin embargo, Flynn intentó combinar ambos personajes en el Eggman de Archie-Sonic pre-reinicio, y el resultado generó problemas con el tono dentro de una misma historia. Algo derivado de esto fue la forma en que Sonic dejaba vivir a Eggman e incluso sentía lástima por su caída en la locura, además de tratarlo como si ellos fueran el Sonic y el Eggman de los videojuegos, de Sonic X o de Sonic Boom; vale recordar que este Eggman técnicamente es una suerte de reencarnación del Robotnik de SatAM (su naturaleza exacta es bastante complicada e incluye universos paralelos, pero sí, se supone que es exactamente igual que el Robotnik de SatAM, con recuerdos y todo) y este Sonic peleó una cruenta guerra de guerrillas de una década contra él al igual que su contraparte de SatAM.

Scourge fue convertido en un Mary-Sue masivo que lograba victorias demasiado fáciles, tan sutil como un enorme cartel de neón rezando “Los malos ganan”; también fue un manipulador abusivo para con Fiona Fox, y Flynn fue incapaz de mostrar eso como es debido por miedo a hacer que su personaje mascota deje de parecer cool, lo cual te hace pensar en cuán parecidos en realidad podrían ser Flynn y Penders en algunos aspectos. Para entender claramente el horrible daño que esto ha causado: no sólo creó una generación de jóvenes fans de Sonic -chicos de Estados Unidos en su mayoría- que idealizan o romantizan el abuso consciente o inconscientemente, sino que también hay incluso mujeres -incluidas académicas expertas en literatura y medios, feministas comprometidas y personas transgénero que también se dedican al activismo por la justicia social- que simpatizan con Scourge o piensan que Fiona tomó una decisión acertada, sabia, racional o informada al unirse a él en la historia (no daré nombres de esas mujeres, no estoy muy ansioso por entrar en acaloradas discusiones falaces sobre “el verdadero significado del Feminismo”); para colmo de males, entre los escritores que empezaron a trabajar con Ian Flynn ya sea en IDW-Sonic o en los últimos años de Archie-Sonic, hay al menos una persona que consiguió el trabajo de escribir cómics de Sonic oficiales luego de ganar bastante fama con un fan-cómic donde usó el emparejamiento de Scourge y Fiona para incitar a sus lectores a sentir lástima... por Scourge. Y hablando de Fiona en específico: la sub-trama de su carrera como villana estuvo mal concebida, fue construida usando como piedra angular la historia principal del número 150 (aquella historia de Penders súper infame y bastante conocida donde Scourge tal vez violó a Bunnie mediante engaño), y también pareció ser “abandonada” ya que Fiona terminó siendo meramente la nueva víctima de abuso novia de Scourge y ni siquiera su estatus como traidora tuvo en los Combatientes por la Libertad un efecto emocional digno de mención.

Flynn también seguía algo así como un patrón de tomar recursos literarios y clichés de obras famosas para luego usarlos al escribir el cómic pero sin entender realmente por qué esos clichés habían funcionado en primer lugar. El principal ejemplo de esto quizás haya sido cuando Scourge le dio a Sonic el discurso de “Un mal día” del Guasón: casi se sintió un poco como darle ese mismo discurso al Batman de Batman vs Superman, pues Sonic ya había tenido una “mala década” entera y seguía siendo un héroe a pesar de ello; además, la respuesta de Sonic a ese discurso (diciendo que a Scourge le hace falta sólo un poco de desinterés y decencia para ser buena persona) no fue tan genial, no se comparaba en absoluto con la respuesta que Batman originalmente le había dado al Guasón en The Killing Joke, y lo más importante, hacía quedar a Sonic como alguien que no sabía juzgar el carácter de las personas.

Por último, todo el Arco de Mecha Sally estuvo mal planeado, tuvo algunas cuantas contradicciones consigo misma y con historias anteriores, fue estirado a lo largo de decenas de números del cómic sin importar si eso se sentía forzado, y los eventos principales y giros de la trama a lo largo del arco argumental se basaron mucho en shockear al lector sin darle sustancia a esto ni hacer que tenga un poco más de sentido al ponerlo bajo la lupa. Entretanto, Flynn siempre pareció tener bastante dificultad para escribir arcos largos, así que estas historias prolongadas lucían como si él intentara y fallara rotundamente en imitar a Toriyama (alguien bastante conocido por improvisadamente armar historias sobre la marcha según lo que le parecía más conveniente en el momento).

A pesar de esto, parece que aquellos fans de Sonic a quienes todavía les interesa en algo el material por fuera de los videojuegos van a seguir comprando lo que sea que Ian Flynn o alguno de sus colegas escriba, simplemente porque es mejor que Penders. Aun cuando han pasado 15 años desde la última que Penders escribió algo oficial de Sonic, así que ya deberíamos haberlo superado en vez de seguir comparando todo material de la franquicia con la obra de Penders, lo cual le impone a todo creador de contenido oficial un estándar muy bajo y demasiado fácil de cumplir y superar. Ahora que lo pienso mejor, la obra de Penders es para el canon estadounidense de Sonic lo que Sonic 2006 es para los videojuegos: la gente puede criticar los juegos más recientes todo lo que quiera, y con razón, pero si alguien menciona Sonic 2006 siquiera de manera casual, cualquier juego de Sonic a partir de 2010 se convierte instantáneamente en una obra maestra sólo por ser ligeramente mejor que Sonic 2006; lo mismo sucede entre la obra de Penders en Archie-Sonic pre-reinicio y cualquier otro cómic estadounidense de Sonic escrito por Flynn luego de que Penders se fue.

Ahora mismo parece que también está prohibido criticar de cualquier modo a Flynn como escritor sólo porque él es mucho más agradable en su vida personal y se relaciona con los fans de modo más directo a través de sus podcasts, o porque Flynn es verdaderamente progresista mientras que Penders afirmaba ser progresista, un feminista y un ferviente Demócrata pero su obra mostraba lo misógino, pervertido, retrógrada, Republicano y lisa y llanamente enfermo que era. Además, ahora decir algo acerca de Flynn que no sea total admiración ciega por él y su obra, incluso pedir que los Combatientes por la Libertad vuelvan en los cómics de IDW, se ha convertido en sinónimo de darle la razón a esos tarados que gritan “Rally4Sally” o “Udon4Sonic” en Twitter: fans “nostálgicos” de SatAM y de la obra de Penders en Archie, todos alrededor de los 40 o 50 años, profundamente conservadores y absurdamente paranoicos, que afirman que los nuevos dibujos animados más inclusivos tales como Steven Universe o She-Ra “les están arruinando la infancia”, que están enojados con Flynn sólo porque él insinuó que Sally y Nicole podrían ser pareja lesbiana (y en forma más bien platónica, ni siquiera algo romántico en el sentido tradicional), y que intentan justificar sus propias ideas deformes y fantasías sobre SatAM ignorando cualquier mensaje político “liberal” que SatAM haya podido tener a nivel de subtexto.

hi! i wanted to ask you if there are any books that inspire you in terms of writing style, especially the whole “weirdly intimate non-sexual touching” vibe because i’ve never seen that outside of fanfic, and you are so great at it i just finished rewatching black sails while rereading your fics then watched muppet treasure island for the first time immediately after, and i was so emotional i started crying halfway through cabin fever and i’ve yet to find a book that does that

honestly, i think i’ve also only read “weirdly intimate non-sexual touching” in fanfic too, but really i think the direct fuel for that for everyone is Many Actors Unconscious Acting Decisions That Have Fueled Ships Since The Dawn of Shipping. A character will fall, another actor will get down on the ground to see if they’re okay, their hand will linger on the other’s elbow for Just A Second too long (we think, when it reality it’s just editing probably), and suddenly we’re all writing essays on how this touch-starved so-and-so is learning how to love again. 

i love it. it’s my favorite. it is the exact purpose of art. or no, it is the second half of art. the first half is the creation of art that exists unto itself and it art for its own sake, on its own merits. the second half is the interpretation, the impressions an audience has and everything that comes from that, from academic dissertations to furry artworks. and the way an actor consciously or unconsciously decides to put their hand on another actor’s shoulder is just a single cog in this great artwork machine, and i think it’s neat to think that art is something we’re participating in without even realizing.

i also just rewatched Muppet Treasure Island on my birthday which was three weeks ago and i was incredibly depressed because quarantine birthdays, actually, suck. it cheered me the hell up. kermit’s introduction is one of my favorite moments ever captured on cinema. it’s GOLD. and yeah every time a moment mentions flint i get a little verklempt so sue me

i can’t think of any books that has weirdly intimate non-sexual touching, other than like, a jane austen novel, and i cannot in good conscious recommend a jane austen novel, because i am not a fan. BUT if you like books that have Gay Yearning and are beautiful and make you cry, here are a couple recommendations:
