I just learned Bravern and Superbia’s VAs were, respectively, Kamui and Subaru’s VAs in the X/1999 TV series.

Holy shit.

Post-X Kamui getting irrationally jealous that Subaru has Seishirou’s eye, only just stopping himself from a thought spiral thinking about why he is jealous and realizing that Seishirou will be “a part” of Subaru that Kamui can never compete with. A physical representation of Subaru as the Sakurazukamori and taking on Seishirou’s partial identity, even more steeped into him than the nicotine he smells on Subaru’s clothes.- /inner “Kamui” feelings going haywire.

And then, because at this point he’s learned not to act on those thoughts, he inwardly attempts to course correct.

Subaru is unaware of this rapid thought process as he stands in Kamui’s kitchen, wearing pants too short for him bc his clothes got covered in blood during a job and Kamui let him wash and crash on his couch, attempting to flip his third pancake (he said he would make breakfast as thanks) and watching it with grim resignation as it partially falls out of the pan. He is too engrossed to ask Kamui where the spatula is.

(They are not dating. Everyone thinks they are at this point. They are just like this.)

Ok, imagine this... Hokuto's spell was not a reflection death spell. It was an illusion spell. So Seishirou doesn't die, they just think he is dying.

Comfy in Subaru arms, both finally admitting everything , revealing their wishes etc and then... nothing. No dying.

Imagine the awkward silence. And the pushing pressure of realization that now they really need to talk...

Kamui realizes that if Subaru regularly ends up in his apartment he should buy an ashtray. Kamui has accepted that he’d rather have Subaru over than him having to excuse himself to go stand in the designated smoking area outside his apartment (someone complained about him doing it on the balcony and Subaru looked like he just punched an elderly person with the look of mortification on his face when Kamui said, breaking his usual taciturn expression).

Kamui initially thinks to go to a local store, trying to think of one: he never really paid any mind to the style of ashtrays before. A simple one might work best, but in post-Apocalypse averted AU, Tokyo was still rebuilding back to the old hustle and bustle (at this point, think of how Yokohama looks/functions as a city in Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou), so he can’t simply *go* to a department store.

So, he goes to the local market on market day, and attempts to barter. He sucks at it, until one booth owner takes pity on him and shows them some Novelty ones they’ve been trying to sell.

“People smoke less these days: harder to get cigarettes I guess.” The owner shrugs. “But feels like a waste to let things that used to be commonplace serve no purpose, huh?”

Kamui can understand that, and is grateful. He purchases one. However…

Subaru is leaning against the doorframe to his apartment, shaking with barely controlled laughter at the tanuki ashtray Kamui picked out.

“He’s so… jovial…” Subaru stuttered, while Kamui floundered: embarrassed but also over the moon hearing Subaru laugh.

Hi! I're read the news about a TBX event and I've read all of the manga, again. Now I'm drowning on my feels and I need to vent.

Just a couple of info to start!

1- I love Kamui, his character cuts me deeply. I'm waiting for him to save the world 💜

2- I really enjoy lots of characters in X, but my faves surely are Kamui, Fuuma (and other Kamui), Subaru. I'm very intrigued by Seishirou as well, but Hannibal ruined him a bit. I mean, that's a classy serial killer with an actual plan to possess the love of his life. Anyhow, Seishirou is an intrinsic part of Subaru and the end of TB/ X volume 16 is a masterpiece.

3- more excited about lil panel where Kamui, Subaru, Fuuma and Seishirou are together in a church than the whole ending of TRC.

4- TRC!Kamui my beloved

5- X symbolism sustains me

6- X being more topical now than in the 90s

7- X fandom being sleeping, me continuing to masochistically choose lil fandoms
