Saint Cosmas and Saint Damian
Died: 287
Feast Day: September 26 (New), September 27 (Trad)
Patronage: Doctors, Physicians, Pharmacists, Surgeons, Barbers, Dentists
Saints Cosmas and Damian were twin brothers and skilled doctors born in Cilicia, Turkey.  The brothers gave their services for free and in the process attracted many souls to the then growing number of Christian converts through their daily work and pious life. They treated the poor and wealthy alike without payment, earning the title “The Silverless Ones.”  During the period of Christian persecution by Diocletian, they were arrested and tortured, enduring being hung on a cross, stoned and shot at with arrows. Refusing to relinquish their faith, they were finally beheaded.

Another DC × DP crossover concept, specifically secret twin au:
I've seen most people pick "Danyal" or the occasional "Abidan" as Danny's OG name (absolute bangers don't get me wrong)
I think we're all missing a great opportunity for it to be "Cosmas" (stay with me people!)
As in St Damian and St Cosmas, the twin Arab physicians who were the patrons of twins! There'd be no way it wouldn't cross Tahlia's mind after already coming up with Damian, right? PLUS, when you look at the meaning of the name, it's "universe". Who do we know who's obsessed with space? 👀
Honestly, it works perfectly in my eyes. I fully plan on including this in the fic I'm writing, but I definitely wouldn't be mad if I saw others using it too!

Closeup details of an Ares illustration entry that I made for my Sing O Muse zine contribution last year. Ares, in my version, is often hanging out with Aphrodite and the Graces, Hera + her daughters, and Poseidon the most, either for his warrior bodyguard duty or just running casual errands in his home. Zine is out now, so you better check them out and grab them while you can since they are still piping hot from fresh printing !!!!

The temple background was that of Aphrodite Ourania in Kythera, one of the oldest structures dedicated to her located in mainland Greece dated from the 6th century BC, which was later converted into Agioi Anargyroi church (St. Cosmas & Damian) during Byzantine times.
According to legend, Aphrodite was born from the sea foam stranding to the seashores of Alvemonas Bay of Kythera first before arriving in Paphos, Cyprus. Aphrodite Ourania, as in her “heavenly love” aspect was depicted as an armed warrior goddess within this modest temple right here, and there are still fully preserved walls + niches within the current ruined building along with its Doric columns!!!!
Tumblr media
Over on the sight of the divine couple is another chryselephantine statue of Aphrodite Ourania herself, with her foot standing on a tortoise. Made out of gold & ivory, with black stone eyes and carved by the famed Phidias who was known for the Athena Parthenos and Athena Promachos in the Parthenon, Athens; as well as the statue of Zeus of Olympia. (I knew that this statue of Aphrodite Ourania would later be transferred to Elis, in the further northern region of Arcadia, but I still loved it to be standing there, tbh.)

Elaborately carved and inlaid wooden reliquary chest containing relics of several saints, Spanish 18th century
Relics are objects associated with Christian saints – either pieces of bones or personal items. To pray before a relic was to ask a saint to send one’s petitions directly to God.
This chest is said to contain the relics of several saints, including Saints Cosmas and Damian, twin brothers who practised medicine. The chest also contains relics of St Crispin and St Crispinian. The relics are wrapped in fabric and can be identified by a handwritten label. The chest is made from ebony ornately decorated with coloured glass and mother of pearl. Only a wealthy owner could have afforded to buy it, although it may have belonged to a monastery or convent.

🌹 Born in the 3rd century in Cilicia, a region in present-day southeastern Turkey, Sts. Cosmas and Damian were twin brothers who were distinguished by their profound knowledge and dedicated Christian faith. Known as the "silverless" or "moneyless" ones, they were physicians who provided their healing services without charge, emphasizing their empathetic and altruistic nature. 🌹
📿 While offering hope and medical comfort, they also disseminated the principles of the Christian faith, leading many towards Christianity. They are often represented as the epitome of holistic healing, restoring both spirit and body. 📿
💒 The brothers encountered hostility due to their Christian beliefs and are believed to have been martyred in the late 3rd century during the times of Diocletian persecution. Their steadfast faith and their commitment to alleviating the pain of others have elevated them to revered positions in Christian lore. 💒
🙏 Their feast day, recognized on September 26th, is a poignant reminder of the essence of altruistic service and the restorative nature of faith. May Sts. The Vodou Lwa, Voodoo Spirits and their Catholic Saint counterparts.
Why were the Vodou Lwa Synchronized? They became syncretized when the spirits they came to the new world and found it's way too the New Orleans Voodoo tradition by the Haitian Vodou religion? Since Louisiana was primarily Catholic need to protect their practice it made sense to add the spirits with the Catholic Saints. These are the most common Catholic Saints traditionally associated with the Vodou spirits. (All photos from Erzulie’s Voodoo in New Orleans.)
The following overview of the Voodoo spirits and their Catholic counterparts are not intended to replace the history. Instead, this is to provide a general concepts as to which Catholic Saints the Vodou Lwa are most closely associated with due to the African diaspora (slave trade)
Voodoo and the Catholic Saints:
In New Orleans, many traditional Voodoo altars are decorated with Catholic saints. This is because, to avoid persecution, many practitioners would syncretized the Lwa and Orisha with their saints. This practice has also led to the incorrect belief that Voodoo is descended from Catholicism, even though the African religions it is based on predate Christianity by thousands of years. Here are some of the more sought after and renowned Vodou Lwa/spirit and their Catholic Saint counterparts for you to use. Spells and Rituals. Here are a few from Haitian, New Orleans, Puerto Rican spirituality) or 21 Divisiones with their saints.
