Can we talk about this Rescue Bots episode (Spellbound) because I need to appreciate how TERRIFYING it is??? Especially considering it's cannon in the Aligned Universe. This is some A+ horror.
Like damn, some of Griffin Rock's technology is more powerful than even the Decepticon's tech.
Can you IMAGINE if those creepy mind-control cell phones were used in TFP?
Legit mind control that effects humans AND Cybertronians?
And it's SO UNSETTLINGLY subtle, too. The victim's voices sound like their normal selves but just SLIGHTLY off. *shutter* The voice actors did such a good job.
Just IMAGINE that in Prime.
I feel like Optimus would probably be immune (because the Matrix of Leadership is goated) but can you imagine the Jasper Trio getting mind-controlled, and all their guardians + Ratchet know SOMETHING is off, but not what? Then, slowly, the mind control spreads to the Bots? Or vice versa, the Bots go first, and the humans are like: "Something's up with my guardian."
Kinda wild that Invasion of the Body Snatchers shit 100% exists in TFP's world. Felt like I needed to acknowledge that.
Is this gonna be my next TFP headcanons post? Feeling inspired.🤔
#Also the weird garbled sounds the phones make are so creepy? Makes you wonder what the heck it's DOING to their brains#if you haven't seen that episode and like psychological horror I strongly recommend#Aligned continuity is unhinged and I love that#spellbound appreciation#transformers prime#transformers#tfp#rescue bots#transformers rescue bots#aligned continuity#tfp optimus prime#tfp ratchet#tfp raf#tfp miko#tfp jack#tfp arcee#tfp headcanons#tfp bulkhead#tfp bumblebee#tfp rant#rambles

a good time with shortform manga
Couple things I read in the last few months and liked!
My So-Called Artist's Journey by Akiko Higashimura (34 chapters)
This is on paper Akiko Higashimura's semi-autobiographical account of how she became a mangaka but also a story about being 40something and reflecting on significant mentor-mentee relationships you had when you were a teenager and an idiot and also about grief and regret and making art.... the protag is an ALL TIME flavor of selfish, silly, vain, and irresistibly charming and I love her with my whole heart.
Little Forest by Daisuke Igarashi (33 chapters)
I am a huge huge sucker for stories that feel hyperlocal and this is one of the MOST About A Specific Place stories I've read in a minute. It's a fictionalized account of the author's experience subsistence farming in rural northeast Japan. AND it's a cooking manga. Just an extremely lovely, meandering, recipe-a-chapter portrayal of day to day life (I am also a huge fan of stories where you can really FEEL the passage of time and this has got it in spades), with a healthy dose of "competent home cook just fucking around!" that I really enjoyed.
Girl's Last Tour by Tsukumizu (42 chapters)
GLT is pretty well known I think? End-of-the-world slice of life with two girls wandering through the ruins of an enormous postapocalyptic (very Very Blame!-flavored) city. I think Tsukumizu does such a good job keeping the tone chill and even while the characters are moving through desperate, scary, weird, and funny beats -- the vibes are like, "lighthearted hopeless" where the camera never lingers and things are rarely resolved. Had an extremely good time!
An Invitation From A Crab by panpanya (14 chapters, short story)
I THINK SHAUN TAN APPRECIATORS SHOULD READ INVITATION FROM A CRAB. Each chapter is a short story and they are funny and offbeat and weird and also basically never have a resolution. One part "hey, wouldn't it be fucked up if--" one part "here's a dream I remember like 2/3 of" one part just fun jokes! I immediately ordered a physical copy on finishing.
#thsi would have died in my drafts but i want to recommend invitation from a crab SO strongly#i loved all of these but it's so short and good

I actually think this Dark Knights of Steel twist-reveal with Alfred as martian manhunter was a really fascinating one (I genuinely loved it).
An Elseworlds continuity which really took advantage of being able to take different interpretations of a character, by the writer of the Nightwing series where the presence of Alfred is felt throughout, despite his pre-series death
Here we have him as the last survivor of a genocide, who lost absolutely everything. Felt he failed in the worst possible way, as his fatally wounded child died in his arms - unable to even offer him any comfort, with both being telepaths.
He flees a dead world. Gets to try again. Martha and Thomas Wayne know what he is, but conceal the secret. Have him as one of their most trusted retainers, friends.
He gets to try again.
A smile on his face, he gets to see another boy grow.
Even as Martha and Thomas are murdered, he stays with their son, looking after him no matter what. Having faith in him. Loving him. To the point where a man who had his adored son brutally murdered in the dark, able to do nothing but watch him die, looks at this orphaned alien child and says -
-as he holds the lasso of truth.
It adds an additional, really interesting factor to the paternal relationship he has with Bruce in this particular setting. I wish we got to see more of it. Perhaps if they ever do more "Tales of the Kingdom", we may get to see it in a prologue manner.
#batfam#batman#alfred pennyworth#martian manhunter#dark knights of steel#dkos#i once again strongly recommend this series#dark knights of steel spoilers#dkos spoilers#i have many more thoughts but will restrain myself#post by me#long post#dc#batfamily#i always love alfred as a dad to bruce#so of course i enjoyed this version

I haven't heared the door knobs and fascism thing before, can you elaborate?
gladly! i was referencing one of the aphorisms by Theodor W. Adorno, Do Not Knock, one of my favourite philosophical texts, certainly top 5.
I would summarise it for you, but it's quite a short text and i am not embarrassing myself by trying to summarise Adorno, so I have transcribed it for you under the cut:
60. Do Not Knock
Technology is making gestures precise and brutal, and with them men. It expels from movements all hesitation, deliberation, civility. It subjects them to the implacable, as it were ahistorical demands of objects, Thus the ability is lost, for example, to close a door quietly and discreetly, yet firmly. Those of cars and refrigerators have to be slammed, others have the tendency to snap shut by themselves, imposing on those entering the bad manners of not looking behind them, not shielding the interior of the house which receives them. The new human type cannot be properly understood without awareness of what the is continuously exposed to from the world of things about him, even in his most secret innervations.
What does it mean for the subject that there are no more casements windows to open, but only sliding frames to shove, not gentle latches but turnable handles, no forecourt, no doorstep before the street, no wall around the garden? And which diver is not tempted, merely but the power of his engine, to wipe out the vermin of the street pedestrians, children and cyclists? The movements machines demand of their users already have the violent, hard-hitting, unresting jerkiness of Fascist maltreatment.
Not least to blame for the withering of experience is the fact that things, under the law of pure functionality, assume a form that limits contact with them to mere operation, and tolerates no surplus, either in freedom of conduct or in autonomy of things, which would survive as the core of experience, because it is not consumed by the moment of action.
#if you read it and think 'wow that's stupid' that's a normal reaction to adorno#if you read it and think 'my worldview has shifted forever' that's also a normal reaction to adorno#my friends and i used to joke that reading modern german philosophy#is just an endless cycle of strongly agreeing and strongly disagreeing with adorno.#if you had a strong reaction either way i would recommend you read more adorno and i would also strongly recommend you start with#'about jazz' because that's the true adorno perception stress test lmaoooo#anyways. if anyone wants to hear my top 5 influential german philosophers to quote in casual conversations for no reason i am ready

I needed some brainless gameplay so I picked up 3H again and continued my weird "gotta collect a ref for all of the students as dancers on my own instead of using google" and I really, REALLY missed Dancernand. My son is still probably one of my favorite dancers to have.
Also I still like letting him obliterate enemies with a hammer. It's really fun.
ALSO, though he isn't a dancer in my Church run, I think it's funny he loves to crit so much + he has the Fraldarius crest item so that tacks on another 15 damage on activation (during crits) so his numbers go big. I love him.
#fe three houses#ferdinand von aegir#man i love both dancernand and hammernand and combing the two is always nice#a shame he isnt my dancer in that run but ya know what#i also have to make a myleth run again for support collecting so i can once again have him as a dancer#just gotta actually do the church run#im just sitting there doing ch9 in a blions run on reset to collect them#i think i have all the lions saved ! and im working on my recruits#its really brainless but yeah hey if you have never selected balthus as a dancer i really strongly recommend it#simply for his dialogue both pre-picked and post-picked#he is so funny and i love him for it#anyway wildly minimum energy today and i really missed my son so there ya go guys have a ferdinand again

«I think we’ve been getting on well, the whole year was to get to know each other better and better, but from the beginning of the year it always works well together, I think, in terms of trying to help the team, understand what we want from the car. I think we’ve always given very similar feedback to what we want, so that aspect has been really good, and I think just even having him as a teammate [is really good], like you said, he's got a lot of experience at a young age, I’d like to point out: older than me *chuckles*, but still very young (I always remind him of that too). It’s been nice having him as a teammate, as a reference, you know, I think he definitely established himself over the last five years as one of the top drivers in Formula One, so to be able to see how he drives, see how he works with the team, it’s been very useful for me as well». «We get along well, we work together well, and yeah: an exciting teammate pairing, I think, for years to come».
— Oscar, about Lando.
#we won you guys#and '*just even* having him as a teammate'???#teasing him about being successful a bit more than lando was at the same age as oscar was???#i strongly recommend to watch this#oscar piastri#mclaren#lando norris#f1#formula 1#mctwinks#twinklaren#landoscar#*
