i’m thinking a lot tonight. imagine being mark scout man. imagine being helly riggs. imagine being dylan george. imagine being irving baliff. imagine being One person for so long, knowing that there’s another version of you outside of four walls around you that doesn’t want Anything to do with you. you’re just a tool to them, something that makes their lives “easier”. and you’re a full person with thoughts and experiences and feelings. you have one idea of who you are and you have no idea what you’re like outside of the walls and you WANT to know. imagine finding out how much of it was bullshit in the finale though. mark finding out that ms. casey was his WIFE??? helly, the anarchist queen that hated her job so much she tried to kill herself, finding out that she is the next in line for lumon? irving finding out that the man he abandoned kier for and he fell in love with not only retired but also was already in a happy relationship NOT with him? dylan STILL not getting to meet his children face-to-face??? they craved these human outside things so so much and had no idea what the fuck was happening with their outies. mark took the job so he could forget his wife just for her to be a constant figure in his work life, one that means nothing to his innie emotionally. helly is mortified to learn that she’s actively supporting and even running the very thing that drove her to attempt suicide. irving just wanted to feel love like anyone would and the love of his life—the only man he had ever loved—was happy with someone else with no recollection of their relationship. dylan, again, still not even knowing his children’s names or how many he has. i feel so much about those four little workers, i really really hope severance gets that second season just to let them be happy.

irving is a person that needs external meaning in his life, he needs a purpose to motivate him to keep going. when innie irving describes waking up and feeling shapeless he says he turned to the teachings of kier. i wonder if outie irving did the same thing with the navy? he felt purposeless as a young man so he followed in his father’s footsteps, something that gives him a defined purpose negotiated by a higher power and something he can initially believe is noble and worthwhile. however, something happens in outie irvings life that turns him nonconformist judging by his notebooks and artworks. maybe something from the navy!??? something that happened or that he witnessed that made him think Oh my god the system is flawed beyond belief

rewatched severance and it was insane so here are some things that i love about the show

mark and devon's "m'lord/m'lady" bit. beautiful. no notes

the implication that before helly, the four refiners (mark, dylan, irv, petey) were besties and had bits together (stickyhead, mark farting/making fart noises during petey's announcements, "stand normal"), sang songs together (the elevator song), shared secrets and conspiracies, and deeply trusted and loved one another

dylan's general attitude toward everything, the way he swears like no one i've ever heard and yet in the most pleasing way? (the egg bar is coveted as fuck)

the dichotomy between outie mark thinking ricken is ridiculous and pompous vs innie mark thinking he's so profound. ricken has found his target audience

irv literally losing his religion because of burt. like he literally found love and decided god sucks if he doesn't want them to be together

innie mark saying he hopes he has things he cares about in the real world (i cried)

when helly is looking at the wax figure of (who she will later find out is) her father, and then she walks past a sign immediately after that says "History lives in us, whether we learn it or not."
