Sometimes I wish there was a resource where it was like "Select a magic user from your fave media and we'll list all the books you should read/videos to watch to learn the level of knowledge and path they're on"
with a submission section you can submit characters and they can add them after review
bc yeah I know each path is specific to the witch but it'd be great to have such a direct studying source with vetted sources
Strega Nona? Boom a list of green witch, kitchen witch, familiars, and folk magic resources
John Constantine? Bam a list of resources of demonology, classic sigilcraft, the Old Gods, spirits and hauntings, protection magic
Sally or Gillian Owens from Practical Magic? Protection spells, hexes, love spells, graveyard craft, covens, ancestral magic, general witchcraft basics
Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service? Familiars, kitchen witch, ocean witch, folk magic, forest magic, herbology, potions, tarot, love magic
Just overall magic that's been shown in the media overall or directly what the character knows, there are soooo many more but like this was just off the top of my head

Propaganda under the cut
Majo Rika
stingy, selfish, awfully blunt and greedy to a fault---she's the perfect hag as far as i'm concerned. her attitude is not helped by the fact that she had to transform to a frog due to a curse in the witch world that dictates all witches exposed by a human are to turn into frogs, and take on said human as an apprentice until they're powerful enough to revert their master back to her original form. as recompense she makes the girls responsible for her turning work at her magic shop on her behalf and tears them a new one if they fail to make her that 👏 Bread 👏. however, with time they gain a soft spot in her heart and she starts treating them like her own daughters which is super sweet... about time we had an old lady Mentor character who slowly builds her own found family
she also has her own fairy who keeps sassing her and it's kinda fruity ngl,,, i mean their world /is/ made up entirely of women so..

Round 1 poll 19: Ella from Ella Enchanted vs Strega Nona
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda under the cut:
Ella:
Ella is cursed to be obedient, forcing her to follow any command given to her. Despite this, she strives to find ways around the curse or cause problems for those who make commands. She’s also a budding linguistic, learning multiple languages on her journey. Furthermore, Ella's curse serves as a metaphor for the lack of autonomy children experience in society, often being made to do things beyond their control because adults in their lives dictate it so. Clearly, a strong contender in the race!
Cursed with obedience, Ella will stretch her limits and find any loophole to disobey orders, and in the end it is her indomitable spirit and deep love that enables her to break her own curse. She is also clever, funny, incredibly gifted with languages, and has a heart for justice.

I've been developing an idea where my Pizza Tower OC, Alfredo Spaghetti, is the same guy as Alfredo from Action 52's "Alfred n the Fettuc", also known as "Alfredo n The Fettucinni's" (yes, it really is spelled that way).
I've also noticed that the premise for the Alfredo games (yes, plural, there are two official versions of Alfredo) bears some similarities to the children's story of Strega Nona. Alfredo is cooking pasta, but the pasta keeps coming out of the pot to try and kill Alfredo. In Strega Nona, there's a witch with a magical pasta pot that won't stop making pasta unless you perform the correct ritual.
Basically, I want to create a story where Alfredo Spaghetti borrows a magic pasta pot from a Pastamancer witch, screws up royally, and overruns the entire town with killer pasta creatures, so he has to save the day and clean up his own mess.
In other words, Alfredo takes the role of Big Anthony from the Strega Nona stories, right down to the part where he might have ADHD because he has trouble paying attention to directions.
I want to name the Pastamancer witch "Nonna Strega" because "Strega Nona" is SUPPOSED to mean "Grandma Witch" in Italian but it's spelled wrong and it's grammatically incorrect to boot. "Nonna Strega" would be the correct way of spelling it.
Another character I want to include is Nonna Strega's apprentice, Carina Cannelloni, a beautiful woman who is sick of Alfredo's crap but thinks he's cute and is willing to assist him on his adventure. Alfredo is still largely into men, but he thinks Carina is cute, too. Carina is based on another character from the Strega Nona series of books, Bambolona.
Also, in my pursuits to thoroughly research this idea, I've been playing the Action 52 Owns version of Alfredo. They leaned fully into the "die die again" method employed by the original Alfredo, and I HATE IT SO MUCH OMG. It's a purposefully difficult platformer with no funny deaths to compensate for it like Crash Bandicoot might. Which is why if I do make my idea into a game, I will NOT be employing "die die again". Sorry, I know some people like games where you die in one hit, but I don't.
Futhermore, I'm likely not making this a platformer. It's likely gonna be an RPG, on a small-ish scale. I know nothing about programming, but I have different versions of RPG Maker I've been wanting to try out. I don't even know if I'm gonna actually make this, because I've been struggling so hard with my mental health that no matter how many ideas for creative projects I come up with, I never start any of them or finish them.
I even bought two Strega Nona books, one being a treasury with six stories, and the other being a book on Big Anthony, since he's who I'm basing Alfredo on.
... Boy, for someone who may not actually do this I SURE AM prepared for doing it.

My Neverafter OC, Strega Mammina. A martial cleric of Big Anthony, she wields the pasta boiled in her enchanted cauldron as if it were a whip. "The one thing you must never do...is touch the pasta pot"
