Little rant incoming

I think everyone misses the importance of Missys name, obviously she changed her name to The Mistress when she became a women and Missy is simply short for Mistress

But I think there's more to her name than that, a time lords title isn't just a title it's a promise they make.

Missy is trying to redeem her self and in turn is breaking the promise The Mistress/Master holds, and in turn is rejecting the name as its no longer a promise she keeps, like how the war doctor isn't "the doctor" because "he's the one who broke the promise"

Tldr, she's rejecting the name because she's rejecting the promise it holds.

10 YEARS OF MISSY!!

Missy was first seen on screen on the 23rd of August, 2014, in Season 8 episode 1, Deep Breath.

Since her fan-theory provoking debut as 'Guardian of the Nethersphere' in 2014, Missy has has 12 on screen appearances, her most recent being in 2017.

However, her 'reign of mischief and terror' didn't end there. Missy found herself in 2 novels and 16 short stories, including 6 which were compiled in her very own book, The Missy Chronicles (2018). She has also made appearances in 6 comics between 2015 and 2021 and 20 audio adventures, including her series, Missy, of 4 box-set collections released between 2019 and 2024.

in 10 years, Missy has certainly made a huge impact on Doctor Who and the fandom, and will continue to do so in the teased Dark Gallifrey audio adventures from Big Finish which may be released within the next few years.

Both Steven Moffat and John Simm had wanted to keep the return of the Master a secret, and thus surprise the audience with him and Missy in the same episode.

Sadly, the BBC were keen to draw viewers in, and insisted on advertising his involvement early on.

Moffat personally requested that fans "look away" when the trailer was released, to avoid being spoiled.

Simm in particular had hoped his disguise in 'World Enough and Time' would catch everyone off guard. But when his return was announced, "it was pretty obvious who I was, which is disappointing. I like to think we could have given people a thrill, but it wasn't meant to be."
