Picturing modern day steddie where Eddie works from home doing coding or something nerdy lol. Steve is a nurse so he’s working days in the ED and he comes home and Eddie just bombards him with hugs and kisses.

And finally he just snaps. “EDDIE!” He yells and covers his face with his hands and just breathes.

Eddie backs up and has a wounded puppy look on his face when Steve drags his hands down his face. He sighs “babe I’m sorry-“ he gets cut off.

“No it’s fine.” Eddie pouts and walks off to his office/game/music room and closes the door.

Steve sighs again but decides to take the quiet for now. He showers washes all the patients of the day off him. He didn’t have anyone super bad that day but everyone was just so needy. He needed a second to breathe. They didn’t live too far from the hospital so his commute had not been long enough. He barely got 3 songs through his calming playlist.

He gets out of the shower and sees Eddie’s door still closed. He takes three deep breaths. He starts the kettle for some tea and takes inventory of their groceries.

He finally makes his way to Eddie’s office. Takes more deep inhales. He walks in and sees Eddie sitting on the small loveseat he has playing his acoustic. “Can we talk?” Steve asks.

Eddie looks up at him still pouting. “I’m sorry for being clingy and annoying.”

“You’re not clingy and only a little annoying” Steve tries for a joke. Didn’t land. “I’m the one who should be sorry. It’s just- I had so many needy patients I was running around like a chicken with its head cut off all day. I was just overstimulated and took it out on you.” He takes the guitar from Eddie setting it down gently. He straddles Eddie’s lap and wraps his arms around his neck. Eddie pulls him in closer. They hug for a minute.

“While you were showering,” he starts leaning back to look at Steve “I read an article-“ Steve gives him a look “okay I watched a TikTok” rolling his eyes “that said people who work from home should give their spouses time to decompress from work since they weren’t home all day. But I just miss you all day long and I’m like counting down the minutes till you get here.”

Steve laughs at that “I know but I think a little decompression sounds nice when I first walk in the door.” Eddie looks down so Steve picks up his chin to get him to look at him “I miss you all day too, you know.”

“I know, baby” Eddie leans in for a kiss. It deepens quickly.

Steve pulls back a little breathless “as much as I want this to continue if you don’t feed me in the next 10 minutes; this” he gestures to himself “is off limits”

Eddie practically jumps out of the couch Steve barely manages to hang on laughing hysterically. He stands on his own feet and laughs with his hands on his hips. Eddie grabs his hand and drags him out of the room “Hurry Steve before you starve to death!”

ohhhh i would love to dig into this. (and i am Definitely Not Projecting, don’t worry about it)

regarding the questions he asks: he often needs clarity because he took someone else’s statement too literally (i.e. “is he a vampire?”). he also struggles when he isn’t given concrete, specific instructions (dustin asking “do you have to be told everything?”).

you mentioned that he sometimes catches social cues, but he misses eddie flirting - extremely true. i would also add that he’s completely blindsided by nancy breaking up with him, even though it felt obvious to me as a viewer that she’d been pretty cold to him. i think he can’t conceptualize that the people he’s close to would mislead him.

he says things without understanding/considering how they might affect someone else (the comment about dustin’s teeth), and the fandom says that it’s his bitchy inner mean girl. but in the words of someone on tiktok, it’s possible to be autistic and a bitch!

similarly to robin, he mentions that he had early mobility issues (although he crawled backward and she took a long time to walk). very common diagnostic criteria.

and for as adorably charming as he is, he struggles a lot in situations where people are in emotional distress in front of him. it seems like he wants to be comforting, but his best methods are cracking jokes or trying to pretend nothing is wrong (with nancy as she grieves barb, telling barb’s parents that the chicken is finger lickin’ good, immediately making fun of robin’s taste in women).

in conclusion, i love him.

Steve loves aquariums. Something about just standing there and watching the aquatic life swim around soothes him. He can (and has) watched tanks for hours before. Especially the huge ones with the tunnel going through them; he loves watching the sharks and stingrays swim over him.

It’s something that he’s a little embarrassed about now. He’s sharing his favourite relaxing activity with Eddie for the first time, and he really doesn’t want Eddie to be bored. It’s not technically a date, but they’re there together and they’re holding hands, so Steve’s counting it in his mental list of dates with Eddie Munson.

“You’re not bored are you?” He checks after a few minutes of standing in front of his favourite tank, hands fluttering unsurely at his sides.

He asks because Eddie’s not been looking at the tank. Steve’s felt his eyes on him most of the time they’ve been stood there.

“No, baby.” Eddie promises with a soft chuckle, and Steve drags his eyes away from the creatures to squint at Eddie in confusion. In response, he only gets a fond grin.

“I’m no good at reading between the lines, Eds.” He reminds him, and Eddie nods slowly.

“You like looking at the fish, I like looking at you.” Eddie explains after a moment, cheeks a little pink. Steve feels his own cheeks heat up, and averts his eyes from Eddie to continue looking at the tank.

He spots something coming closer to the glass and gasps, because it’s his favourite. An octopus, who comes right up to the glass and settles right there in Steve’s view. His hands flutter at his sides again, a little more aggressively in his happiness.

“Hey, those are your favourite, right?” Eddie asks, and Steve just nods, refusing to look away from the beautiful creature.

“It’s beautiful.” He says, voice a little breathless.

“You’re beautiful.” Eddie says in response.

Steve’s cheeks heat up again.

Argyle never gets frustrated with Steve when he doesn’t understand something. He doesn’t roll his eyes, or give That Sigh. He explains things patiently, if a bit abstractly, and when Steve is way off base Argyle runs with it. Is Vecna a vampire? Whoa that would be wild, man! Do you think he can’t have garlic? We could just take him out with a gnarly garlic pie, my dude!

the way you're seeing into my mind.... argyle being really soft with steve and taking the time to make sure he doesn't feel stupid when he's confused is something i've considered AT LENGTH (specifically in dms with @himbohohoharringtxn who has the unfortunate luck of being on the receiving end of Most of my argyle thoughts fdjghkdfj)

i would like to preface this by saying that i am firmly in "argyle and steve are both genuinely smart" territory. i think steve is very neurodivergent coded (i see the arguments for adhd/autism/dyslexia/ocd and as someone who might be autistic but is diagnosed with the other three....i see these arguments and i agree on all fronts) and there's also the head trauma of it all, though that's not what this is about. he's not fucking dumb, he just needs things broken down and explained to him in a very specific way. nothing wrong with that!

as far as argyle is concerned - we've literally seen him in action noticing small details no one else has(one of my fav parallels between them), which ends up being the reason the cali group finds nina and el. he's not fucking dumb either, just delivered to us as a comic relief stoner character with little dimension because the duffers need to be fucking stopped

BUT ANYWAY! you're so right! argyle would see the way steve sometimes gets brushed off and spoken over. the rest don't mean it to be hurtful and steve tries not to show that it does sometimes sting (because it's really not that big of a deal to him and it's not like they're being outright mean) but he would ABSOLUTELY "yes and-" whatever steve's off the wall question or idea was, if anything just to make him laugh, relieve some of the tension. AND IT WORKS is the thing.

it's not just, "duuuude, what if we just lure vecna into the sun? he'll be TOAST in five seconds flat, no fighting necessary. nancy, you can put the gun down, we're gonna hurl garlic cloves at him with a slingshot!" in one fell swoop, argyle is 1. making sure steve feels heard and not spoken over; 2. acknowledging steve's input and effort in a way that, let's be honest, the others don't do very often; 3. putting a smile on the group's faces for a while because fuck they're kids in a stressful situation and need a laugh; 4. putting himself in the line of fire so the others can rag on him instead.

argyle would do this when they aren't even dating yet and steve definitely would not be normal about it, he'd be smiling so big and soft and then argyle would catch his eye and smile back and they'd have this little quiet moment between them amidst all the chaos and dread.

after they're dating though? oh, they'd be INSUFFERABLE. they'd be such a pda couple, with the ridiculous pet names("what the fuck did you just call me?" "don't worry about it, my lil sweet potato pie."), and the open flirting until their friends are fake-retching, the whole nine yards. argyle is hanging off of steve's back with his arms around his waist and not even acknowledging it as he makes his argument to the rest of the group that, "no, no, listen. steve is onto something here, i just know. what if-"

and when they're alone, it'd be less of the theatrics and silliness and more of the gentle patience. they're both smart in really different ways and when argyle gets something steve doesn't and steve is getting a little frustrated about it, he'd take his hand or pull him close and just distract him with a little bit of affection to get him to cool down because he knows being frustrated isn't going to help steve figure out whatever it is. conversely, steve does the same when he's trying to explain something to argyle - though he's less likely to get as frustrated when confused, and more likely to pretend to take longer to get it than he actually does because listening to steve explain a subject he's knowledgeable about is fucking hot, can you blame him? they're just soft with each other, okay

Is franny and yellow Steve's relationship romantic or platonic? Or is it both somehow? Or is it just unexplainable? They are very devoted to eachother, help eachother which I guess both scenarios could do- but they are also very intimate with eachother. Whenever I see them press their heads against one another, or they hold eachother, or when Steve kisses her, or when she is bowing to him and cradling his leg and waist, I feel like I have to cover my eyes! Like as if it's somthing so personal and loving that I shouldn't be watching- sorry my mind is all other the place. I love how they love eachother. Love transcends all labels and forms.

I often find myself doing a lot of female + male duos (which-- while yes I should work on making male+male and female+female connections, Im happy to do because it often makes the cast 50/50 female and male.)

And I do often put them in a more than platonic, less than romantic pairing. I'd feel bad because this might just be me seeing man and a woman and going "kiss", but I realize that a lot of the time, I don't want them to be romantic. I like seeing them being affectionate towards eachother and only eachother, but not the label of romance.

I just figured out that this-- is likely me either, being autistic, or as an aro/ace, not understand the difference between platonic and Romantic love

And so I thought of the term "Romantic coded." Where they are still just friends, but I like the thought of them being affectionate!

I don't know <:3 i understand that romantic partners can have whatever dynamic they want, like being best friends most of the time. And I also understand that queer-platonic is a thing and has a similar flexible dynamic, but I don't know!

With Franny and 💛Steve, the label I like most is "Friends". They are friends, atleast for now... They make me giggle and swing my feet, but they are friends 😌 they love eachother.

eddie is dean; obvious daddy issues and trauma, doesn’t give a fuck what people think of him, they have the same taste in music (mostly), we all know dean is secretly a fucking nerd so it tracks, iconic leather jacket, did bad in high school (repeated senior year 3 times vs dropped out), hate the government and cops, unhealthy coping mechanisms, can hotwire a car, self-sacrificing, adhd coded, good with kids, etc. like i could go on and on

also wayne would be bobby obviously and sam would probably be… nancy tbh

steve is cas; putting on a facade that he has been wearing too long and now he has no sense of identity, questioning everything he knows, breaking away from his “destined path” (steve working for his dad, a white picket fence life vs cas blindly following heaven), protects others with his life, self-sacrificing, daddy issues again, autistic coded (i stand by this fuck you), looked up to as a sort of leader (by the party vs the other angels), looks like a scrawny little white boy but is secretly a badass, etc.

It's my birthday tomorrow. Everybody has left the south bay now. Martin, Reggie, Alex are all gone. I guess Steve is still here but he doesn't really hang out with us, or rather me anymore. I don't really know what to type here, as I haven't been thinking too intensely about too many things. The times when I'm doing worse are the times I'm more intensely in thought, so I guess I fail at thinking positively.

Anyways, I'll be 28 American years old tomorrow. My 27th year was better than my 26th year I guess. Definitely still in my bottom 5 years overall but hey its the first upward year in a long time. Maybe since college. I've managed to keep up gym and I've even started running which is slightly surprising. It's good because who knows what may have happened if I wasn't able to keep up gym. I'm planning to run my first 5 miler tomorrow. I have to wake up in the morning because I'll be eating with my family in the evening up in SF, mostly out of a feeling of obligation. I wonder if they know. I'm letting the fact that I'm not being lazy on my birthday feel symbolic.

One thing I've been telling myself is that I'm god's strongest soldier. Obviously that's not actually true, but motivationally it helps. It's one of those things that there's no harm in believing in the moment, and it brings me joy. Speaking of another thing that brings me joy, Lily and I agreed to go climbing sometime soon. She's willing to come down from SF for me, and seems genuinely interested in hanging out with me. I need to keep my mindset that I'm just trying to be there for her, though it seems I overestimated how depressed she was. Well, better safe than sorry.

I visited Yan a couple weeks ago along with Gerald. It was a spur of the moment thing, and the flight was expensive as a result. I honestly felt a little pressured into going. We did a lot of activities involving physical exertion and also hung out with his church buddies a lot. Yan is super into the culture there it seems. His lifestyle as a chad in NC honestly bothered me a little bit. He has more pride and ego than I remember and also some strong ideals about what it means to be a man, which I don't really agree with. I may be making judgments too hastily but I was disappointed at his treatment of Jeremy, a dude in his small group who seemed a little autistic. I wasn't able to express this to him. At the same time I'm glad he's obviously doing well for himself out there. According to society, I probably have no authority to judge someone who's found a lifestyle that works for them.

My next step should almost certainly be to make my sleep schedule really consistent. I'd like to sleep at 1-2am every day. The deadline for working on the game is fast approaching. I have less than 4 months left, and I've told too many people about the new york deadline. Sigh... I certainly have some mental block about coding. When I open the IDE my mood instantly sinks. I had the strange idea of treating coding like working out, doing reps of opening the IDE lmao.

Wow I thought this post would be short because I didn't feel like I had much to write about but here we are. I went to Ralph's wedding last weekend. It made me realize I've made a mistake, choosing the jolly group over Ralph's group. I just respect Ralph's close circle so much more these days than the people in jolly. They are more considerate and more secure, and jolly isn't even dank anymore. At the end of the day jolly has now devolved into a bunch of individuals who are either troubled or successful but unkind people. Obviously this is a bit of a generalization. Maybe I wasn't good enough to join Ralph's group anyways, or maybe the grass is always greener on the other side. I might as well try though, since jolly in the south bay is pretty much dead.

Finally there's the issue of getting more involved with Austin's church. Unfortunately my experiences visiting Yan have turned me off even more from Christianity, but I really haven't given Austin's church a fair chance. The demographics are obviously very different so maybe it'll be a better fit, though so far my instinct tells me it's only a small chance. It'll give me something to do I guess.

i've seen several posts lately that mention that Vigilante is like. in his 20s. mostly pointing out the """"huge"""" age difference between him and Chris. and I just want to throw this out there:

like YES there is an age difference, exactly 10 years, but we're not talking about a 23 year old and a 40 year old, which somehow is what the fandom seems to think. just idk keep that in mind in your writing, Adrian isn't a kid he's a full grown adult man

Wayne flicks through the channels on TV. He needs to get up, adjust the antennas, but Eddie is fast asleep in his lap. The boy hadn’t had the best day- rough day at school, and Steve had to work tonight. Wayne had attempted to make it better by fixing Eddie’s favorite meal- chicken nuggets. It’d helped slightly, but as soon as dinner was over, Eddie was back to sulking.

Even though Eddie wouldn’t admit it, Wayne suspected he’d been cornered by some bullies today. He almost always can tell when Eddie has bad encounters with Jason Carver. He’d be jumpy for the rest of the day, and would retreat to his room to draw or work on his campaigns. Wayne makes a mental note to ask Steve if anything had happened.

Eddie’s a very still sleeper, so Wayne hardly notices he’s there. Other than the occasional soft snore or sleep talking, he’s quiet.

And that’s why his nightmares are so disturbing.

It starts slow, but Wayne still jumps when Eddie begins to squirm in his sleep. Eddie’s face scrunches up, and he grabs a fistful of his uncle’s shirt. He whimpers, still fighting whatever his mind had conjured up for him to fight.

“Son, it’s okay,” Wayne soothes, “I’m right here.” He knows better than to wake somebody from a night terror. A bruised jaw from a few months ago had let him know not to shake somebody experiencing a trauma nightmare.

Suddenly, Eddie lets out a scream. He’s thrashing now, gasping for air in between screams. Wayne grabs the boy, and restrains him against his chest. God, he hopes this would end soon. “Eddie! Wake up, son, it’s okay!”

Finally, Eddie jolts upward with a scream. “Help!” He looks around frantically- where are the bats? Where is Vecna? His eyes land on his uncle, instead.

Safe. Uncle Wayne is safe.

He tries to explain his dream, tries to talk, but all he can do is cry. “Uncle Wayne! It was terrible!”

Wayne holds the boy closer. “I know, son. Tell me all about it.”

“The bats!” He chokes out, “Oh, God, they were tearing into me! Vecna… he was chasing me! I just wanted to go home, but I couldn’t! And Steve was dead and you were dead and it was the worst nightmare ever!”

Wayne rubs Eddie’s back, nodding as he explained his dream. “It’s all over now. You’re safe.”

After Eddie’s crying begins to slow down, Wayne takes him to the kitchen. “How about some late night snacks?”

“Frosted flakes?” Eddie asks halfheartedly.

“If you want.”

Eddie smiles, just a little.

His uncle pours them both a bowl of cereal- no milk for Eddie. If his cereal got soggy, Wayne wouldn’t hear the end of it until next year. “You make the best cereal,” Eddie says around a mouthful of frosted flakes, “Thank you.”

“Always, boy.”

“I’m pretty sure the fork goes on the left side.”

“I’m pretty sure I don’t care.”

Nancy swats at Eddie and Robin in an attempt to stop their bickering. “Both of you, stop! We are at the fanciest restaurant in Indiana!”

Steve scoffs, “Only because it was you and Robin’s turn to pick the restaurant.”

“Oh, there was no Robin involved,” Robin laughs dryly, “I wanted a cheeseburger from McDonald’s- Nancy wanted a filet mignon.”

Nancy opens her mouth to retort, but Steve beats her there. “Yeah, sure, Nance, let’s take our autistic partners to a fancy restaurant with a dress code- what could go wrong?”

“Steve,” Eddie whines, “I don’t eat anything on this menu!”

“Me either,” Robin says.

Nancy huffs, and places her head in her hands. “Have either of you thought about trying something new?”Both of them shake their heads rapidly. “Okay, fine,” Nancy points to an item on the menu. “This is basically a grilled cheese with ham.”

“A crack monster?” Eddie asks.

Nancy feels her soul die a little. “Croque monsieur.”

“Can I get mine with no ham?”

“Robin-”

“It better not come on whole wheat bread.”

“Eddie-”

Robin lets out a loud groan, and pushes away her menu. “This is stupid, and this suit jacket is itchy!”

A waiter approaches them, interrupting Nancy from choking her lovely girlfriend. “May I get you something to drink?”

Eddie nods. “Your finest mountain dew.”

“We don’t carry soft drinks, sir.”

“Yup, I’m out,” Eddie says, getting out of his seat. “I’m sure the crack monster is lovely, but I need soda.”

Nancy groans, “Croque monsieur!”

Robin and Eddie steal some bread rolls from the table before chasing one another out of the restaurant. Steve sighs, “Sorry, Nance.”

“…We’re going to McDonald’s, aren’t we?”

“Probably.”

Nancy rolls her eyes as she follows Steve out of the restaurant. One night, she just wanted one good night. Just then, she hears rain begin pouring on the roof. Great.

She pushes open the door, and what she sees makes all her anger melt away.

Eddie and Robin are giggling and dancing in the rain, tossing dinner rolls at one another. Eddie’s tie is on the ground, Robin’s new suit jacket is soaking wet. “Steve! Nancy!” Robin yells, “Dance with us!”

Steve and Nancy exchange looks before running to join their other halves.

Nancy laughs, pulling Robin in close. “So much for my filet mignon, huh?” She smiles, gently elbowing her girlfriend. Before Robin can respond, Eddie chucks a roll at the back of her head. “Munson, you are so dead!”

“Been hunted down since senior year, baby! Get in line!” Another roll.

“Which senior year?”

Eddie fakes a gasp. “Don’t make me shove that damn clarinet down your throat, Buckley.”

Steve shakes his head, then opens the car door. “All of you, in the car! You’re going to catch a cold!”

Piling in the car together, they all huddle close to keep warm. “So…” Eddie asks. “McNuggets?”

“McNuggets,” Robin agrees.

oh my fucking god i've got it. nancy measures intelligence very specifically, with grades and stuff like that, hence the "you're a douchebag(? i cant remember what it was specifically), steve harrington" because he doesn't study or anything and he's 'dumb' in the academic sense, and then there's also her brother who is very smart academically so i assume she learnt from a young age that being smart meant being good with school so that's why she tries so hard to study but it's only in season 4 when her view of that starts to change. she's in the library with robin and robin is acting a little dorky to her (bc autistic coding) and so she's not enthusiastic to talk with her and stuff but then when robin presents 'the weekly watcher', her look is like. "wait. that's actually smart. you're actually smart." and so she starts to treat robin more as an equal because she realizes there are other forms of intelligence !!!! you guys !!! i cracked it !!!
