Saw this post and couldn’t get it out of my mind :)

His tattoos don’t even cross his mind when he takes his sweater off, too focused on knowing that he’s the only one that could handle swimming to check for a gate. Hoping that for once Dustin’s wrong.

It’s not until Nancy’s using her shirt to wrap around his middle that he remembers, “fuck, did they eat the sunflower?”

All three of them stare at him and in that moment he also remembers, no one knows about his tattoos. The only other person that knows about any of them is the artist who did them and he’s all the way in Indianapolis, probably working on a new design for him.

“Where’s the sunflower?” Eddie breaks him out of his thoughts, “because it seems like those bats just went to town on you. And you have some serious road rash on your back”

He doesn’t have to move far, the sunflower is or maybe was on his left side on the ribcage, fallen petals going down towards his hips. Pointing towards it, he watches as Eddie looks and his eyes wander across his chest. There’s a broken crown sitting on his collarbone, hopefully at least.

“Uh, well, the sunflower has some damage, sorry to say, though that crown is fine. Any, uh any other tattoos?” Eddie tells him and there’s something in his voice that he can’t quite place.

He nods and turns around, there should be an image of the nail bat on his shoulder blade with the lyrics from Mad World, “the dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had” wrapped around it.

It’s probably not the best time to worry about the tattoos and should probably worry about the fact that they’re stuck in the upside down but his brain can’t stop focusing on the things that kept him from freaking out for the last three years.

“Woah! That’s metal as all hell, some of the words got a little scraped. But still there”

Eddie’s voice brings him back to the moment and he’s thankful the nail bat is still there. He sees Robin and Nancy talking and then before he knows it, pulling him and Eddie along to who knows where. His focus on the tattoos fade away and in place is just pain from his whole body.

Once they reach top-side again, his tattoos aren’t on his mind. The pain from the bites and road rash is the only thing he’s processing. Not processing that the kids are staring at him both in worry and curiosity because they didn’t know about the tattoos and the sunflower is peaking out from under the makeshift bandage and the broken crown is on display.

Thankfully Nancy gets everyone moving. He gets cleaned up and bandaged with actual bandages. They plan, steal a Winnebago, buy weapons and before Steve knows it, they’re back in the upside down and he’s telling Eddie and Dustin to not be stupid.

After it’s officially over, they’re in the hospital for several reasons. Max’s broken legs and arms, Dustin’s ankle, Eddie’s bites and Steve’s own bites. But it’s over and everyone is safe, that’s all Steve cares about really.

He gets cornered by Robin, and it’s not really cornered since he’s stuck in a hospital bed already. “Ok Dingus, now you’ll be explaining how the hell you managed to keep this a secret from me!”

Shrugging, because he doesn’t know exactly how to explain this. Especially since his brain is feeling like mush with the drugs they have him on. “I like tattoos” is all he says and then promptly falls asleep. He has good reason for it, there’s plenty of time to talk when he’s not high on pain meds.

I’m gonna leave it there because I’m lost on how to continue right now. I’ll definitely come back to it to do a part two of the actual conversations and why, how & when Steve got the tattoos. Here’s a better understanding of what they are tho:

Prologue i

story: Midnight Rain wc: 1.2k the start of jennifer's life, and how she ended up in hawkins before the events of season one take place.

In Detroit, Michigan at 2:45 AM on May 1, 1966 --

-- in a hospital room, a woman — aged 16 lays atop a medical bed in immense amount of pain. Her hands hold the bars beside her as she heaves a large exhale. A doctor rushes in with a few nurses as they all surround her, telling her to push as she does. The female was scared, a little too scared, knowing that she'll be a mom to a little bundle of joy.

With all her might and a few extra pushes later, a baby girl arrives in the hands of a doctor as well as the world. Above, her mother can breathe fine again whilst beginning to cry tears of joy as the baby gets placed in her arms. 

“What’s her name?” The doctor asks. 

“Her name is Jennifer Marie Bennett.”

“Beautiful name,” the doctor complimented as jennifer began to open her big blue eyes.

Her mother was in awe at the sight of her daughter, admiring every little detail on Jennifer's face. The corners of her mouth twitch, forming into a big grin. She was tired, but it was worth it.

Jennifer Marie Bennett, born in Detroit, Michigan on May 1, 1966 was written on her birth certificate.

But that certificate will soon get lost somewhere in the world.

The details in her footprint was painted on the paper, given to her mother as well.

Throughout the beginning three years of Jennifer's life was easy to her. But to her mom, things were difficult. She was working two jobs plus taking on extra shifts, to pay for needed baby supplies as her mother watched over and cared for the young Jennifer. However, things go downhill in the next coming years...

Jennifer's mother struggled with providing for her daughter, leaving her in the care of her deadbeat dad or her grandparents. She got tossed around by various family members, because her mother worked days and nights, barely being able to see jennifer most of the time, or getting to spend her evenings with her baby daughter. She was a good mom for wanting something good for her daughter, however when Jennifer was developed a heart murmur, things took a turn. The money eventually went from buying diapers and baby powder to doctor visits. Luckily though, her heart murmur closed up by the time she turned three years, being able to get some money for food and other necessary items.

A couple years later, when Jennifer was just eight years old, her and her mother were evicted from their apartment for not paying the bills on time, so they resorted to a friend's house for another three years until they were forced to live in their 1970 Land Rover. Growing up, Jennifer learned things that most mother’s shouldn’t teach their young daughters. Other moms were teaching their daughters beauty and elegance, whilst her mom taught her how to use a gun, to hot wire a car, and other extreme things most girls her age don't learn unless it's an emergency.

Jennifer, who was nearing thirteen, was taken by CPS to a foster home and there. until she was around fifthteen -- eagerly waiting to get out, so she can enjoy and experience the life her mother wanted her to have. When she was in foster care, she was rarely abused... on some occasions she would be mentally mistreated which lead to her anxiety and depression -- she was diagnosed at fourteen years old.

Jennifer didn’t think anyone would adot her since she was a troublemaker, but that all changed when a married couple came in one evening and saw the young girl.

She later was adopted by Claudia and Mr. Henderson (at 14-years-old) was taken back to their home where a little boy awaits. Dustin Henderson was the name of the little boy, who became her younger brother. Of course Jennifer didn’t like the idea of having a sibling since she grew up as a single child, but she loved her younger brother with all her heart. As the years past by, he would get annoyed with her at times and would become easily embarrassed if she teases him at times...

In 1981, Jennifer started attending Hawkins High School, where she met various types of people... even some like her, who were almost outcasts. During her lunchtime, she noticed a girl ditching and smoking in the bathroom not far from the cafeteria. When she met the female, she was standoffish, but was polite. Wilhelmina Byers (commonly known as Billie), the daughter of Melvald's General Store employee, Joyce Byers and the sister of Jonathan Byers. Even though Phoebe was a bad girl, she was well-liked and very known by the popular kids despite her brother.

They later became friends, beginning to ditch class and smoke to leaving for the whole school day. However, Jonathan was not too fond of the friendship, but later came around and befriended the new girl as well.

Starting in 1982, Wilhelmina would take Jennifer to a nearby tree house -- well, one in someone else's backyard to hide when they ditched. But that later caught up to them before their sophomore year of high school. Later, Wilhelmina began experimenting as Jennifer was hesitant, unsure if she should do it too, considering the cons of sexuality. But Jennifer had her first kiss with Jonathan, almost embarrassed about it for a while, however, liking the idea of being with boys as they had a fling with each other.

When Billie found out, Jennifer was quick to get her feelings in check as she then called the whole fling off. It didn't hurt either one of them, and she knew that she did the right thing.

1983, her junior year in high school looked up. That was until met stuck-up priss, Nancy Wheeler. They weren't fond of each other, but dealt with each other for a while. Eventually though, Jennifer came around dressed different, looking hell of a lot better than she did before. She Switched her style from edgy to innocent. It earned the attention from Steve and his friends, and were later accepted into the group including Nancy and her nerdy friend Barbara.

There, she developed a crush on Steve Harrington. A huge mistake, unaware that Nancy was having a fling with him.  She was crushed and devastated, but held her head high even when she wanted to fight Nancy, not wanting to think ridiculous shenanigans. She made herself a promise not to reveal her past, and where she came from since she already told her little brother who later told his friends as that upset her in many ways. Though she did accept it.

She then revealed her past to Wilhelmina, unknowing that she'll be accepted no matter what and she was loved by so many people. Everyone liked her too, some didn't, but that wasn't the point in Jennifer's life. All she wants to do is live her life the way she wants to. She struggled with her romantic feelings toward steve, vowing to determinate them before ruining friendships and eventual relationships.

This time, though, Jennifer's life was just at its peak when her best friend's younger brother vanished, leaving with mysterious, unanswered questions... November 6, 1983.

You heard the familiar sounds of the coffee making process. Cabinets opening and closing softly, the crinkle of the bag and then your favorite sound in the entire world.

Steve Harrington was singing. 

If Steve sang in public it was usually to be funny, doing a different voice or brushing it off and stopping as soon as anyone commented on it. But when he really sang you couldn’t help but swoon a little.

You rolled over in bed, smiling softly as your body woke up to his voice coming in faintly from the other room.

You felt his fingertips brush your ankle softly, trailing up the inside of your leg as the bed dipped from him climbing in. He continued to hum the song, his fingers making soft circles on your legs.

You felt a gentle kiss to your knee as he softly started the song over, “Oh, here we stand, or here we fall…” his lips trailing up your thigh, his fingers on your bare hips. The soft, buzzing touches mixed with his quiet voice singing had you floating.

Eyes still closed but you stretched out your body, sighing and adjusting and opening your thighs as his fingers trailed up and down them, his humming and soft lips against your skin.

“Don’t hear the bell, but you answer the call…” He kissed just at the inside of your thighs.

Chapter One | The Vanishing of Will Byers

story: Midnight Rain wc: 1.5k jennifer's childhood friend's younger brother goes missing as it shocks the small town of hawkins, indiana. While helping her younger brother search for will byers, she has to figure out her feelings for steve harrington all while keeping herself together.

{ November 6, 1983 -- Hawkins, Indiana }

Stepping out of the pool, Jennifer walks towards one of the benches and picks up her towel. She dries off enough so she doesn't track water to the locker room. Jennifer opens her locker and proceeds to take her swimsuit off, and dry off the rest of her body. Jennifer slides her clothes on; a long sleeve sweater with jeans and a hoodie. Grabbing your backpack, you leave the locker room then into the hallway before she runs into someone. Looking up, she sees a tall male with nice hair as he brushes it back, gazing in her eyes.

"Oh, sorry,"

"It's fine." He says. "You look familiar. Have we met?"

"I'm Jennifer, I'm on the girls swim team."

"That's it!"

"Steve?"

"Yeah."

"You're on the boys swim team, correct?"

He nods. 

"Yes, I am."

"We'll, I gotta go. I have to get home."

"O-Okay."

"Bye."

Jennifer exits the school and walks home.

Seeing the abandoned looking neighborhood, she remembered how people stopped caring for everything once before. The neighborhood was big for being in such a small town in Hawkins, hearing children's excited shrieks coming from a park nearby. Jennifer walks down the street before walking up your driveway and towards the front door as Dustin notices his sister.

"Hey,"

"Hey, Dustin."

"Where's mom?"

"Inside."

"Okay."

Dustin walks away, getting on her bike before riding away.

"Where are you going?"

"Going to Mike’s to play D&D. I'm late."

"Okay, well, be safe."

Dustin rides away as you watch him for a few seconds before heading inside. Jennifer greets her mom, Claudia, with a smile as she asks Jennifer about her day.

Jennifer tells her mom that it was the usual, typical and boring day, she tells you that she is glad you're home and safe. Jennifer then exits the kitchen and heads toward her bedroom, looking around and seeing the decor laying around on the shelves and end tables.

There sits a small television box on top of the chest of drawers since there was nowhere else to put it. After putting her bag down and grabbing some clothes, Jennifer walks toward the bathroom to take a quick shower.

{ November 7, 1983 }

The next morning rolls around and Jennifer’s still fast asleep as her brother, Dustin, rushes into her room and basically pounces on Jennifer like a baby tiger.

"Come on, Dusty" You groan.

"Get up, Airhead. You have to go to school."

"Go away. I’m up, I’m up. Jesus."

Dustin gets up, leaving the room as Jennifer sits up. Turning slightly, Jennifer looks at the clock sitting atop the nightstand by her bed. She groans before uncovering, standing and stretching then walking toward her closet. Jennifer pulls out a cute but warm outfit and gets dressed, walking toward the bathroom and finishes getting ready.

Jennifer checks herself out in the mirror one last time before grabbing her bag and walking into the kitchen. Dustin is already gone as her mother is too. Eating a bowl of cereal quickly, Jennifer finishes as she puts it in the sink and walks away. Heading out, Jennifer grabs her bike from the garage and dusts it off.

She rides off quickly, remembering how to ride a bike. Once Jennifer arrives at Hawkins High School, she gets out and locks her bike up before walking in the building. Walking down the hallway, Jennifer gets stopped by her counselor and gets handed a note. Looking down, she sees it's from her swim coach, reading it as she treads lightly down the hallway. Not paying attention to where Jennifer is going, she bumps into someone, dropping her papers as she looks up at the male.

"Woah, sorry."

"Don't be, it's— uh, huh, I thought I was running into a freshman."

"No, I'm in the same grade as you. Remember, genius."

"Yeah, it just seemed like it due to you having your head down. I didn't recognize you."

Both Jennifer and Steve squat down to collect the papers she once had in her arms. They reach for the folded piece of paper, but their hands brush together. A fluttle begins in her chest, butterflies forming in her stomach. Steve grabs the folded note and catches a glimpse of what the paper says.

"Woah, the swim meet got canceled for the day? Why is that?"

"I don't know. I wonder what's happening. Surely, the would announce it, right?"

“Who knows at this point.”

He stands, handing Jennifer the rest of the papers before walking away and towards Tommy and Carol. She moves on, heading towards her locker to grab her things. While Steve stands there, he watches Jennifer go by, staring at her hair, body and ass then towards his friends.

"I think Stevie has a little crush,"

"I don't, OK?"

"You should invite her over, Steve. Let's show the good girl how we party."

"I'm not — Jesus, man. I'll invite her but I'm also inviting Nancy."

When the school day comes to a close, Jennifer finally gets to leave for the day, leaving the classroom with her bag, coat and books in hand. Heading to her locker, she meets up with Phoebe. Nancy and Barb stand not too far away. Jennifer pokes her head to the side, watching as Nancy opens her locker right when a note falls to the floor catching her attention. She steps away, walking up to them as she greets Barb and Nancy. Picking it up, Nancy reads the note as Jennifer catches a glimpse of what the note says.

“Meet me. Bathroom. -- Steve.” 

Before doing as it says, Nancy closes her locker and turns her heel, walking towards the bathroom. Jennifer begins to feel a pit in her stomach form as she fights back tears. Jennifer is quick to leave even before Nancy slips into the girls bathroom, unable to be seen. She decided to head home since she knew that Steve obviously has feelings for Nancy, the goody two shoes.

Jennifer steps inside her house and sees the news on the living room television. 

Will Byers is missing? 

Jennifer feels sad, heart shattered as she thinks about Joyce and Jonathan and wonders how they are holding up in this whole situation. She walks toward her bedroom, setting her backpack on her bed before taking a seat next to the partially zipped bag as tears prick at your eyes. A knock on the door startles you as you wipe away your tears and act as if you're okay.

"Come in," You announce, voice cracking.

Jennifer watches as the doorknob turns. Her friend, Phoebe, walks in and takes a seat on her bed. She notices Jennifer’s red and puffy eyes as she sniffles.

"Hey, your mom let me in. She offered me a snack, and I declined... Are you okay?"

"N-no, I'm not. I--I, uh."

"Hmm, let me guess, boy issues?"

"Yeah," Jennifer confesses. "He likes Nancy."

"Ugh, that goody-two shoed bitch?"

Jennifer nods.

"Distance yourself. It'll only make matters worse when you're around her."

"Okay. Thank you, Pheebs."

"No problem." She smiles.

Phoebe decides to order pizza as she returns home from the grocery store with two pints of ice cream. Jennifer and Phoebe sit in the living room and wait as the blonde decides to rummage through the stack of VHS tapes beside the television. Once when the movie is over and the two of them finish the pizza, Phoebe heads home as Jennifer tells her mother that she is taking a ride around the block to clear her mind.

"Okay, be safe. Love you!” 

“Love you too, Mom!”

Jennifer grabs her coat from the rack and slips it on before walking out of her house. She grabs her bike and begins riding, she rides down the block as she goes wherever her legs are cycling her. Riding past the woods, she sees three bikes sitting beside the police barrier, recognizing one of the bikes — belonging to her brother, Dustin.

Suddenly feeling some drops above her, rain begins to pour over Jennifer as she decides to run into the woods to retrieve the boys. Her stomach churning in the process. Jennifer wanted to get them out of this rain, and to not go missing like Will. Catching up to the boys, they, along with you, startle seeing each other. You sigh in relief. 

"Jennifer, why are you here?"

"Dustin, what the hell? You’re not supposed to be out here. I… I'm here to get the three of you out of this rain. Now, come on. You are all drenched."

Out of nowhere, Jennifer and the boys hear rustling in the bushes around them as it scares all of them. Out of instinct, Jennifer moves to where she’s in front of them, blocking the three boys from the possible danger ahead of her. As they all try to figure something out, Jennifer grabs the flashlight from Mike's hand, shining it on the moving bush.

Fear rises in Jennifer's chest as she releases a breath she wasn't realizing she was holding. Her body tenses up, hearing a small rustling noise as she and the boys turn around. Jennifer gets ready to protect the young boys as a child steps out from behind the bush, standing in the cold, rainy weather with nothing but an oversized Benny's Burgers t-shirt on. Jennifer’s eyes broaden as a gasp escapes from between her lips.
