I ran across some panels on Saturday, and because I'm not in the habit of re-reading religiously anymore, I was SO CONVINCED they were from the previous chapter and didn't remember them or thought it was just a slightly different fan translation. It was an inconsequential enough set of panels, but imagine it was the bombshell from only a few chapters ago!

One Piece leaks are genuinely the bane of my existence, One Piece as a manga is insanely easy to access and the new chapters are even FREE TO READ. The only reason to read leaks or scans is straight up due to a childish impatience. I cannot elaborate how the eng audience is the ONLY one to do it to an extent that's so insane it is legitimately damaging the livelihoods of our official translators.

Three days is NOTHING to wait for officials, there is no point 'pirating' a manga that is MADE to be accessible. It's seen as an offense to the creators to read and access leaks before the officials, and it's why the eng One Piece audience gets NOTHING extra in terms of One Piece content. We are not seen as a profitable or even RESPECTFUL audience, so they don't bother translating anything outside of the manga for us - because anything ELSE they translate for us flops in sales due to everyone pirating it.

We are lucky to get this One Piece boom recently, but to continue it we MUST stop spreading leaks and support the officials. It's good to have a second source of translation, but it's not hard to release fandom translations AFTER the officials. I keep seeing people deny that leaks and unofficial scans has anything to do with a lack of eng marketing for One Piece, but ask ANYONE who works for the official eng team and they will quite literally tell you this IS the case.

Compared to countries like Spain, Italy, Germany, etc, One Piece has an extreme lack of official support in eng countries. This isn't bootlicking a studio, this is both respecting the author while WANTING more One Piece content for an eng audience. For the love of god PLEASE stop supporting leaks for a manga that literally releases FREE CHAPTERS! 😭
