How to Survive The Death Tour in Real Life Doesn't Necessarily Mean Wrestling with Demons
For other showtimes, please visit the official website. Screening at The Rio Theatre Aug 21st 6:30pm Vancouver, BC Unlike those movies and short films I’ve recently reviewed about the “behind the scenes” of the wrestling world (namely Little Lucha and the Big Deal & Dark Match), they present the events as fiction. To understand what goes on, I recommend checking out The Death Tour. Despite its…

Mr. Stephan: My son and I listened to Dr. Jordan Peterson in a packed Calgary Jubilee Auditorium. It was good. Dr. Peterson is from Alberta. He has lectured at the universities of Toronto and Harvard. He is a clinical psychologist. Dr. Peterson has raised concerns that Trudeau is narcissistic. He is right. Narcissism is defined as a mental health condition where a person has an unreasonably high sense of his own importance. Trudeau’s words and deeds speak for themselves. Alberta should not be compelled to protect ourselves from our own federal government, yet in spite of them Alberta succeeds.

Golshifteh Farahani Talks Role Of Art In Iran: “In A Dictatorship Like Iran, Art Is Essential, It’s Like Oxygen” – Berlin Film Festival
By Melanie Goodfellow Senior International Film Correspondent February 16, 2023 4:35am

Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani, who is at the Berlin Film Festival as a member of Kristen Stewart’s jury, has talked passionately about the importance of art in her native country as an antidote to its repressive government.
“In a country, like Iran, which is a dictatorship, art is not only an intellectual or philosophical thing, it’s essential, it’s like oxygen,” she said at the festival’s opening press conference.
“Doing art and being an artist is something that goes beyond, because your existence, by being an artist, is put into danger.”
Iran’s authoritarian government has long persecuted professionals in the country’s creative community when they stepped out of line with its hardline Islamist views and policies.
The repression has ratcheted up over the last year. A brutal crackdown on freedom of expression, that preceded the recent protests, saw Berlinale Golden Bear winners Jafar Panahi and Mohammad Rasoulof jailed for more than six months.
Both men were recently released on bail but a number of less internationally renowned filmmakers and artists remain behind bars.
Farahani has been living in France since 2012.
She was declared persona non grata back home and forced to flee after she got on the wrong side of Iran’s repressive Islamic Republic regime for taking a role in Ridley Scott’s 2008 spy thriller Body Of Lies, appearing without a hijab, and then later posing nude for French magazine Madame Figaro.
Farahani now regularly works between Europe and the U.S. with more credits including Peterson, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge, Girls Of The Sun, Arab Blues and Extraction.
The actress was last at the Berlinale in 2009 as the lead actress in Asghar Farhadi’s drama About Elly, for which he won the Silver Bear for Best Director.
She later accused Farhadi of stopping her from walking the Berlinale’s red carpet with the rest of the film team due to the controversy she was facing back home over Body Of Lies.
The director has denied the accusations saying Farahani stood separately on the red carpet out of her own volution.
“I’m very happy to be here with you,” Farahani told Thursday’s press conference.
“I came here in 2009 and it was a very different year. It’s very symbolic to be in Berlin. Berlin is the city that broke the wall, the actual wall, towards equality, freedom, and brought so many people together,” she said.
“This year with Ukraine, with Iran and the earthquake, it feels like the whole world is disintegrating,” she said. “With everything that is happening in Iran, being back in Berlin after all these years, I’m happy that we can gather together and celebrate cinema, celebrate freedom, even though the world seems to be collapsing everywhere.”
The Berlin Film Festival’s international jury, presided over by actress Stewart, also features German director Valeska Grisebach, Romanian director Radu Jude, US casting director and producer Francine Maisler, Spanish director Carla Simón, and iconic Hong Kong director and producer Johnnie To.

The Death Tour (dirs. Stephan Peterson & Sonya Ballantyne).
Exploring the treacherous Northern Manitoban wrestling scene, the sports documentary produced and featuring superstar Chris Jericho shows viewers the rural Canadian highways traversed just to get to these remote Indigenous communities to wrestle. Full of physical hardships and emotion tolls, the notorious tour has been a rite of passage since the 1970s. Its frozen surroundings serve as an apt metaphor for the wrestlers' journeys of redemption to both find and prove themselves. There's an intimacy to capturing these athletes' passion and desire to enterain fans even in the furthest depths of the country.
Screening at the Rio Theatre on Aug. 21.

Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, NHØP
After studying piano for six years, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (May 27, 1946, Osted, Denmark – April 19, 2005, Ishøj Municipality, Denmark), chose to play bass influenced by a famous classical instrumentalist. His improvement was so rapid that at the age of fourteen he was already playing with the best jazz groups in his country. In 1960 he joined a professional jazz quintet and the following year, in January 1961, he recorded his first album with a trio that included pianist, Bent Axen. His fame in Denmark increased significantly and this gave him the opportunity to play between 1962 and 1969 in the formation of the 'Danish Radio Orchestra', the public radio of Denmark, a job that he expanded when in 1964, he was invited to be part of the big band. of said institution. In 1962, a year before joining pianist Kenny Drew's trio, he had the opportunity to perform at the Café Montmartre in Copenhagen with the piano master, Bud Powell, who confessed himself admired by the quality of that Danish double bassist. With Powell, Pedersen had the opportunity to record his first album of international relevance. That meeting with Powell opened the doors of jazz throughout Europe and his presentation in subsequent years at the most important European jazz festivals such as Montreux, Nice, or Molde. In the 1970s his professional career was definitively consolidated when he met Dexter Gordon, based in Copenhagen, and with whom he became so close that for Dexter, Pedersen was one of his essential musicians, recording thirteen albums together. . In 1964, Ørsted Pedersen was elected best Danish jazz musician of the year, just at the time in which he played with the multi-instrumentalist, Roland Kirk. In 1965 he had the opportunity to tour Europe with the tenor sax master, Sonny Rollins, and with the pianist's trio, Bill Evans. In 1968, a survey among critics specialized in jazz by the North American magazine, 'Down Beat' ranked him as the best European jazz double bassist. In 1969 he made a new European tour and that same year he met the pianist, Oscar Peterson, a key musician in Pedersen's career and with whom he spent about five years. With Peterson, Pedersen would establish himself as one of the great jazz bassists in the world and during the 1970s, his work with the greatest jazz bassists multiplied. For two consecutive years, Jazz Forum magazine chose him as the best European jazz bassist and in 1977, he obtained the same worldwide consideration when he was chosen by Melody Maker magazine. His discography is very extensive as a sideman of other musicians, highlighting his albums with saxophonist Dexter Gordon, with Oscar Peterson, with a magnificent live performance at Carnegie Hall in New York in 1979 with Ella Fitzgerald; with Stephane Grapelli, with guitarist Joe Pass; with alto sax player Jackie McLean; with our admired Tete Montoliu, especially on the album recorded for Stepplechase in 1994: «Catalonian Fire»; with Anthony Braxton or with Philip Catherine. The albums under his name have almost all been for the select Danish label: 'Stepplechase', beginning in 1975 with the album: 'Jaywalkin' and ending in 1998 for the same label with a live performance at the Montmartre café in the Danish capital. Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen's last visit to Spain was on March 4, 2004 at a concert at the Kurssal in San Sebastián, together with the alto saxophonist, Phil Woods. Pedersen was one of the great creators of modern jazz in Europe and his mastery was recognized by the most demanding musicians. Read the full article
