I think of this meme often when I stumble across Hazbin shipping discourse and hate.

Say what you want about the Dr Who/Sherlock/Potter Heads era of tumblr. Was it cringe? Yes. Unbelievably so. But the art and community that came from it was amazing.

The way the HH fandom tears into each other over ships that aren’t “canon” is.. baffling to me.

Maybe I’m just too old to understand it. But it all feels so childish. Life is hard and has too many real problems. I don’t see the appeal in fighting over who imaginary characters do/do not sleep with.

I’ve seen this a lot with Alastor’s character specifically. Ace/Aro authors and artist create something based off of their own personal experiences- and get railroaded by other fans- simply because he’s portrayed in a way that doesn’t fit into their personal biases.

Hazbin fans- just because your favorite character is LGBTA doesn’t make you immune to bigoted behavior. Prejudice often disguises itself as public-interest.

Let people be fun. Let them be cringe. Let them make crack and terrible art. AUs, character studies, and crossovers can be the birthplace of amazing things.

I don’t really have a point with all of this. I just think it’s kinda sad how fans are ruining the show for themselves.

The assistant is looking forward with a surprised blush while being pulled forward into a hug, face near Molly’s chest as the angel looks back up toward Baxter with a smile and shining wide eyes.

Valentino’s Robo Fizz, Kitty, is grinning and posing as if cheering behind Susan, who is sitting upon the shoulder of an Overlord with a black and white deer skull for a head in turquoise flames. The Overlord is sitting cross-legged and reaching up one hand to support Susan as she holds up a cigarette holder and glares to the side at Zeezi, who looks back with an amused smirk and raised eyebrow.

St. Peter is leaning forward with his arms and wings spread out to the sides while grinning widely at Tom Trench, who is leaning back with one hand tucked casually into the pocket of his trousers and raising an eyebrow at the angel. Razzle is grinning enthusiastically nearby, oblivious to the Egg Boi hanging on to his wagging tail.

Another Egg Boi is grinning with arms outstretched behind Rosie and Katie Killjoy as the two sit beside each other. Rosie is raising a hand up near her mouth as she grins and raises an eyebrow while Katie gestures to the side and leans in with one hand up by her face as if gossiping. To the side and slightly behind Katie is Lilith, who is leaning forward slightly with her sunglasses held in front of her chest and looking back over her shoulder with a half-lidded gaze and a slight frown. KeeKee is floating in front of the queen’s face and looking at her.

Cherri Bomb is wrapping her arm around an unmasked Lute to bring her in closer to her chest and grinning at Emily on the other side, who herself is grinning excitedly with eyes closed as she rushes forward to tackle Cherri into a hug. Lute’s arms are hanging loosely around Cherri’s legs as the exorcist looks over at Emily with furrowed eyebrows and a small frown.

Velvette is raising an eyebrow and grinning crookedly as if amused while Charlie tackles her into a hug, arms wrapped around the Overlord’s waist as the princess grins excitedly with eyes closed.

Niffty is sitting on Zestial’s arm, which the Overlord has raised up so that the two appear to be nuzzling the sides of their faces together. Niffty is smiling in contentment with her eye closed while Zestial is smiling widely with all four eyes scrunched up.

Alastor is perched upon Valentino’s arm while the other demon has Lucifer in his other arm, the King of Hell’s bottom in the Overlord’s hand. Valentino is grinning toothily at Lucifer, who is glaring with an anime-like vein pulsing angrily on the side of his face as he pushes himself up with one hand on Valentino’s arm and extends his cane out past Valentino to point at Alastor. The Radio Demon is tilting his head and raising an eyebrow as he grins toothily in amusement, his own cane held over his shoulder with “Cursed Cat Alastor” hanging onto it.

Husk is looking down with an amused grin and wink, leaning forward with his legs bent in an action pose as he reaches one hand down to hold onto Carmilla Carmine’s raised leg. Carmilla, hair flowing loosely, returns the smirk as she kicks her leg up to the side with one arm behind her and the other raised as if dancing or fighting. A third Egg Boi seems to be leaning back against Carmilla’s hair, eyes closed and one leg crossed over the other.

Mimzy is grinning down with wide eyes as she places her hands on each side of Adam’s face, causing him to tilt his head back to glare lightly up at the small demon. Adam has one hand up near Mimzy that she seems to be leaning forward against while his other is at his side, his mouth in a small frown as if his cheeks were being squished through his mask.

Vox is holding Angel Dust in his lap as Angel kicks his feet out to the side and gestures off to his left with two of his arms. One of his other hands is resting upon his knee near Vox’s hand while his upper right arm is slung around the Overlord’s shoulders. Vox is looking over at Angel with what looks like a grimace, one eyebrow raised as his left eye crackles with electricity. Angel is leaning back so that their faces are beside each other as he grins widely with his eyes closed.

Vaggie is sitting between Carmilla’s daughters Odette and Clara, her wings spread out behind them as she wraps her arms around the sisters’ shoulders. All three have their eyes closed as they appear to be laughing, Odette holding one hand up near her crooked smile while Clara is grinning widely and leaning forward slightly with one hand on Vaggie’s upper leg. A fourth Egg Boi is clinging on to the top of Vaggie’s wing as if hanging on for dear life.

Dazzle is smiling happily with both eyes closed as he holds Fat Nuggets in his arms. On the other side of the canvas, a fifth and final Egg Boi is grinning with both hands up in the air.

The final pair of characters is Sera and Sir Pentious. Sera is looking down with a grin, eyebrows upturned and eyes half-lidded in a gentle expression as the demon looks down in fear and wraps both arms around the angel’s waist. End description.]

I was having a chat with someone about all the hate Valentino and his fans get and how it doesn't make sense that Valentino fans get so much hatred when the other Vees, particularly Vox has a lot of fans that don't get the same treatment. This made me wonder if there are Vox fans who also feel that way about Valentino. I am personally of the opinion that if they exist, they would be a tiny minority. It has never made sense to me that villain fans would look down on fellow villain fans. However, opinion isn't the same as reality so I need emprical evidence.

The hate option is for those deeply hate Valentino. If you don't hate the character enough to be constantly wishing for their death and for it being incomprehensible to you why annyone would like them, pick dislike.

pre-valentino mafioso angel meeting little sepia beta vox in the fifties, rapidly realizing that this guy has been bottling up all of his worst impulses his entire life AND afterlife because no one has ever respected him or taken him seriously, which angel understands intimately, and just being like "are you tired of being nice? don't you just wanna go apeshit?" and lets vox just go full-on looney tunes cartoon violence on angel's shitty family.

the buddy-comedy (and angst) potential of these two is so strong. angel not begrudging vox his upgrades because he knows how dehumanizing it is to not be recognized as the threat that you are; angel who was given the form of a spider but has never stopped being treated like the fly; derided for being gay and gnc in the thirties and just solving all of his problems with a gun because it's easier than addressing his self-worth issues.

enter vox. who's never been able to be anything but a boring middle-aged guy at a white collar office job bc his ambitions were never given the space or support to be able to thrive. gradually building up huge amounts of resentment & repressed cruelty that he couldn't ever vent & then dying & going to hell & being a little cartoon. doomed to an eternity of never ever being anyone or doing anything important because he STILL exists only for everyone else to demean and ignore and dismiss. but now it's worse bc his survival depends on his entertainment value. imagining the relief of meeting angel & seeing his own fury & sadistic desperation reflected there. absolutely LEAPING at the chance to slaughter angel's abusive mafia family with him. and thus a beautiful doomed friendship was born.

doomed, because, well... a few decades later, they're both going to meet someone who makes them feel uniquely valued. respected. seen. and only one of them is going to make it out of that situation with their autonomy intact, because the thing vox has always wanted most is to be on top, by any means necessary - but all angel has ever wanted is to not be alone.
