If GW had a dollar for every miniatures agnostic rulebook I had read...
...they'd still be trying to figure out ways to charge people more money for less plastic and make you pay for another codex again.

I'm Paul, and I paint miniatures and create scenery for private clients and gaming companies - and myself when I get the chance! For my own hobby, I mainly concentrate on Frostgrave, Stargrave, Xenos Rampant, OnePageRules and Gaslands, though I do diverge into other skirmish level systems, TTRPGs and boardgames too.

The streets have never run with so much CYMK before.
These minis have actually been collecting dust for almost a month, finally got around to using them for testing them with Rogue Hobbie’s signature range. Absolutely fantastic paints and I really enjoyed making some super bright minis again which I immensely enjoy. I’ll probably just use these lot for generic Cyberpunk 2020 characters to populate the world.

While most of them are kitbashes with stargrave , the one is pink is only a slightly modified pewter mini from Northstarfigs

This adventurous Gretchin is hurrying to catch up with the Kommandos who have already left on their mission. I know the sniper on the right isn't an ork, my youngest wanted to learn some things about painting so I used this mini as an example. Now that she's done she can go join a Stargrave crew.

2023's painting output, 137 models in total. Slightly down from last year's 162, but last year I didn't paint an entire kill team board so I'm not gonna be too hard in myself. Didn't quite follow the hobby resolution plan either, got a bit distracted.

Hey, I actually finished painting a mini for the first time in over a year, so I am going to show you lovely people! Her name is undecided, but she's a Stonehaven kitsune fighter kitbashed to be a striker for the game Stargrave.

These corroded nasty looking sci-fi industrial terrain bits are the 3d supports for a completely different piece of terrain, based on a peanut butter jar lids, with some wire, zip ties, hero click clix base, hair tie, and some random bits on top. They've been assembled and primed for about a year, but I slapped some paint on it this weekend.
Obnoxiously, I realized far too late that I forgot to under coat the second one in the metallic primer before doing the green.... Ah well, it's good enough.

Mini-Adjacent Pt. 1 - AKA Dollar Tree
Apologies in advance for the hasty photography.
TLDR: The Final Faction action figures at Dollar Tree have some cool designs that cross over well into 28mm sci-fi tabletop.
I've had my eye on some of these for a while. Their "real" scale is wrong for standard 28mm heroic, because the action figures themselves are GI Joe-ish in scale. But the accessories are a different story.
The human faction has some cool bits for $1.25 apiece that make for excellent mechanized units, e.g. the walking turret on top left, or the Battletech-reminiscent walker on bottom left (scale-wise, that could plausibly be an exo-suit of some kind). The alien faction has similarly sized biological units with a chitinous, insectoid, Zerg-y vibe.
You could totally play these as actual units/creatures in a minis-agnostic game like Stargrave or Starfinder. The other possibility, however, is playing them as really cool objectives. Secret bioweapons to be destroyed; a raid on the enemy's rear to destroy his artillery or a mech depot.

Tau Pathfinders done! You ever had a project that you just did NOT care about but you tried to do it anyway because you just wanted it out of the way? Well that was these guys for me. It took me like a month but there they are, and I never want to look at them again. Minimal effort, maximum irritation, but they're DONE.
Perhaps this could be a reminder to you: that project you've had lingering half finished because you just could not be asked? Maybe get back to it. Maybe this time you'll be able to just brute force it and knock it out! Never ever let "perfect" stand in the way of "finished." You can do it! (Unless that work style is just anathema to your brain, which happens, and that's ok too.)

Some partners in crime, and in general, I needed some Mercs for my Stargrave crew.
I hardly ever do green minis, so these aren’t up to par with my usual standards for miniatures, but I think they look consistent and alright

Psychic jellyfish from Mantic's Star Saga and Warpath. The one on the left is plastic and the one on the right is white metal. The metal one came unassembled, it was a little bit tricky to get all those underhung tentacles in place. They have some neat powers in the games in that they can use mental blasts that don't require line of sight, and when they get into close combat their tentacles will flail around and hit everything close to them, friend and foe alike. They're fun little models and I wanted to play with some blue tones like I showed in a previous post.
