I'll admit that I'm also a little scarred from imprinting HARD on Finn and Poe in The Force Awakens and having Star Wars turn Finn into a figure of fun and sideline him and turn Poe into a walking, talking racist caricature. And then they also killed off Cassian Andor after I imprinted on him. And then somehow Kyle Ron was the hero all of a sudden???
So I do not trust easily. I do generally trust the OFMD team. Mostly. But I do not trust fandom.

me after Like. 2 drinks: Okay so like look the thing about Luke Skywalker, No Wait Come Back. The thing about Luke Skywalker. Is he was born to be a stunt pilot, part time Han Solo enabler and full time flirt post OT. Its what he deserves! Its what he would be good at!
But however. Since we live in the bad timeline, where instead he felt morally obligated to take up the legacy/atone for the sins of (The Jedi /Darth Vader respectively), people he didn't know anything about and frankly didn't owe a god damn thing to... yeah I mean. I can totally see All Of That* Happening. That follows logically.

I’m NEVERRR getting over how completely evil and insane it was of whoever at starwars hq decided to make poe dameron an ex narco for no reason, when it had no bearing on the plot or his character, right after oscar isaac had been gushing about how he had been doing some worldbuilding regarding poe’s backstory and planet and how he was basically from SpaceGuatemala. and talking about how he went by his first and middle names instead of his last name in order to not get typecasted as uhhhhhhhhh i don’t know a FUCKING NARCO HBSCJHSDBVJHMAKASJHAAAAAAAAA I HATE YOU DISNEY. DIE

it's kind of stupid that numa (the kid from the Clone Racism episode) is in rebels but it also casts that episode in a light that's INCREDIBLY funny. probably not so fond of clones now

Okay, for real though, am I the only one who has concerns about the way droids are treated in the Star Wars Universe? I mean they clearly have a level of sentience comparable to a number of organic species, yet even places that eschew, and are even repulsed by the concept of chattel slavery still treat them as property with no rights of their own, not even to their own memories.
IDK, it's just never really sat right with me...

Yeah, idk if George Lucas ever directly said it in interviews but naming his evil army stormtroopers seemed like an unsubtle historical allusion to the Sturmabteilung or SA, the Nazi's paramilitary wing. The stormtrooper armor and Darth Vader's helmet resembled the SA uniform, and Palpatine's rise from chancellor to dictator also seemed like an unsubtle Hitler analogue. If GRRM based the Unsullied on anyone irl I'd suspect it to be the Janisarries or more vaguely, kidnapped child soldiers.
Yeah aren't they literally called stormtroopers in English? A lot of filmmakers who are looking for a shorthand to establish that some organization is fascist will reference Triumph of the Will which was a Nazi propaganda film, and while Star Wars is arguably the most famous example of it, a lot of Dany's scenes with the Unsullied in particular are a pretty direct reference to it as well. Honestly if you see anything featuring a super-regimented army where the soldiers don't have visible faces and there is one or two actual "important" or even just named characters in the scene, chances are that the filmmakers are trying to establish that the important/named character is a baddie. I don't know what GRRM wanted the Unsullied to be seen as, but GoT was definitely going for a Nazi aesthetic there.

while the offer to wipe Mae’s memory came out of left field, her immediate acceptance is completely understandable given her state of mind at the time—not that the show did anything to reinforce that in the moment. previously we saw Mae commit to Osha over her own training. then, when offered the opportunity to take revenge on Sol, she refused in favor of justice—one of the quietest and loveliest redemption arcs in recent memory. seconds later she witnessed the effect of that vengeance on Osha. Mae’s sister has become her cautionary tale, and arguably the motives behind her willingness to be separated from Osha again, even to the point of forgetting her, are manifold. obviously she wants to protect Osha and not be a liability to her, but if that was the only obstacle, she could simply go with Osha and the Stranger temporarily, and they could leave her somewhere else. instead, Mae chose the option that separated her from Osha immediately—in part because she had just seen Osha do the thing Mae never could, and achieve the goal Mae pursued for years. it’s hardly any wonder that she would rather not remember that. perhaps some part of her hopes that if she has a clean slate, when they meet again she will be able to offer Osha a redemptive love without the burden of memory, something which has treated both of them so terribly. the Aniseya sisters have the potential to be a story of nature versus nurture—twice over. perhaps Mae will retain her now well-honed sense of justice, and she will realize swiftly that justice is not something she will find in Vernestra’s company. in this essay I will

#i think ahsoka is a character defined by ghosts. she’s a ghost at this point#the space she leaves in the narrative#she haunts rots when we know she’s not there but still. we hope#anakin haunts her daily#and the worst part? does ahsoka haunt anakin? when he’s anakin yes but as vader? he can’t allow himself the indulgence of ghosts#padmé’s is brutal enough (x)
sometimes i just sit and think about anakin and ahsoka and want to burst into tears. i mean, you’re fourteen and thrown into war and you have this teacher and he becomes your brother and father and best friend all at once and you fight and argue and make jokes and patch each other’s wounds and he tries to protect you from the horrors of war but it never really works because how can you save youth in the face of cruelty? but you know he tries more than anything so sometimes you’ll pretend it works, you’ll crack more jokes and make more sarcastic comments to make him laugh and you know he does the same. and one day the unbearable happens and you never see him again except for once, which is more painful than anything. you spend almost every day of your most formative years with this man and he haunts every day you ever live. what the fuck man

Honestly I cannot overstate how much seeing Hayden as TCW Anakin changed EVERYTHING. Matt Lanter's Anakin is a frat dude. He wears a backwards baseball hat and says vaguely offensive things without realizing, while being a fundamentally chill and outgoing guy at heart. Hayden's Anakin is... not that. His voice. His expressions. His physical presence. It's off somehow. It's just left of normal. It's completely unremarkable and yet deeply uncanny for reasons you can't quite describe. TCW Anakin was always a flatter, blander portrayal, but I don't think I realized until now what exactly was missing: the serial killer energy. The inarticulable conviction that SOMETHING unhinged is going on behind those eyes.
