Officer Bathagar reluctantly hands off the payment to Cad Bane. An illustration for Chapter 10 of "Figment", my fanfic. (Mostly bounty hunter adventures with a dash of romance). ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Excerpt:

The spaceport was bustling. Transports dropped off passengers. Bags floated or rolled after them. Droids ferried cargo. The bounty hunter leaned against a pillar, far to the side, observing everything with a keen eye. This was the rendezvous for Officer Bathagar, who clearly had nothing to say. The Bith strode straight up to Cad Bane and handed him a datapad with one hand and a case with the other. Bane opened it to see the gold credits gleaming. The Officer checked over his shoulders nervously, only to find no one watching them in the busy port. Uncomfortable, he made to leave.

Bane growled after him, “Law man.”

The Officer stopped in his tracks. “Everything is on the datapad.”

“Looks that way,” Bane agreed. He tilted his head, looking at the man as though he were an unruly teenager. He casually warned, “Don’t get comfy bendin’ the rules.”

The Police Officer became stiff, then forced himself to relax. He nodded and left without a goodbye.

fun fact of the day: one of these Bith is named Tech!

you'll recognize them as the band - called Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes - that plays in the cantina during A New Hope.

there's a short story about them in the novel From A Certain Point of View, from the POV of one of the band members, who addresses another band member as "Tech."

Yep, this is why I like Codywan even though I don't normally like shipping and prefer platonic relationship more. They could be canon. Maybe not the Tatooine part because a bit of plot hole here and there, but it's what Star Wars famous for anyway, plot hole.

Durring the clone wars though, they could totally have a feeling for each other, and it'd make a total sense for none of them to said or did anything about it. And if they did, it'd make sense to not broadcast about it too, like an open secret of some kind.

It just fit right into canon, you know. And it seem like a really interesting dynamic! That's why I like it. It has a great potential for angst and fluff too.

I still personally like to view them as platonic but that's probably because I can't write or even imagined a romantic relationship.

Oh, and back to Tatooine​, Cody just doesn't seem like someone who would give up everything and decided to spend the rest of their life on a desert planet. I think he'd joined a rebel. He probably came for a visit and apologize if he know Obi-Wan was there, but he wouldn't stay. He would continue fighting for his brothers to be free. He value helping innocent people over his love life, that's why Obi-Wan would love him. That's why they're different​ from Anakin.

I think one of my favorite things about Codywan is that it absolutely could be canon and wouldn’t disrupt the established timeline. I mean, a ship doesn’t have to be canon compliant to mean something but for me, personally, I so rarely fall for pairs that are possible that when I do it’s like, a little extra special.

And as someone who loves angst + hurt / comfort, codywan in canon would obviously be filled to the brim with both in order to maintain established canon. For example, Cody obviously isn’t in A New Hope, but with the clones accelerated aging that could easily be a sad but canon compliant reason why he’s not. Or in rebels, Rex mentions he believes Obi-Wan to be dead, and he talks about Cody as if he’s no longer around. That could be because Cody and Obi-Wan are hiding out together on Tattooine, just like the original draft of the Kenobi script.

Does this make sense? Do I think Lucasfilm would ever go for this? No. But do I think if they wanted to they could do so very, very easily and it would fit right into canon, like it always belonged? Yes.

"Figment" Ch9: Unfinished Business

A new year, a new chapter! I decided to post with the single illustration this time. My readers have waited long enough, and quite frankly, I want to move forward with the story. Chapter Synopsis: Weogar City is finally free of the Brass Killer thanks to Cad Bane, but an Officer of the Law still has questions about the case. ...
