Update: December 2022 - slow archaeology
Update: December 2022 – slow archaeology
“Our brains aren’t designed for multitasking”, my dear friend Cliff Nass, mathematician, cognitive scientist and psychologist, warned me a good long while ago. “It will slow you down and cloud your reasoning.” OK — I’m still working on the same big three projects as back then. But I am quite sure that my research and thinking have evolved most significantly and in ways I could not have…

⛧°。 ⋆Waiting on the Stars ⋆°⛧
+:。.。 teen Stanford Pines x gn reader 。.。:+
Part 3 is here y'all!! I'm tempted to keep a majority of the story in Ford's POV. Let me know what y'all think! warnings : strong language, suggestive language, the usual teen shit pt.1 pt.2 pt.3
1972 What happens when Ford's chance to ask you out is right in front of him? Will he grab it and run? Or will his time run out?

Ford's POV
"Hello?"
What do I say? God their voice is so pretty. Do I hang up? No that's creepy.
Thoughts race through my head. Fear and anger crashes over my body like waves. Finally the reality hits, I need to say something.
"H-Hi (Y/N)?" I stutter out finally.
"Ford? Hey! How'd you get my number?" Their voice rings in my ears as a blush raises throughout my face.
"Stan. He saw you left your notebook in class today and let me call to tell you..I promise I didn't look through it at all! Just your..number." I feel myself mentally cringing at how creepy all of this could sound.
"Oh shit. I didn't even notice! Thank you!" They laugh and thank me, I feel my heart begin to beat faster. Not out of fear or anxiety, but of something else.
"Oh it's nothing! Just..buddies looking out for each other...not assuming we are buds or anything! Just a phrase..yeah phrase." I say and look up seeing Stan shaking his head and laughing. A silent glare is directed at him.
"Of course we are! Looking out for each other. Speaking of which, um would you like to meet up sometime this weekend so I can get it back? Not like a date or anything." I hear their voice quiet down at the last part. My heart tightens up and my stomach drops.
"SO like a date?! Oh he would LOVE to honey! I'll make sure he dresses all fancy for ya. Flowers and all! I like you already! He will pick you up tomorrow at 7 alright?" My mother's voice rings out through the line. I turn around towards the living room and see her sitting in her usual chair with the phone in her hands. She looks up at me and blows a kiss before getting up and walking away like she didn't just say the words I have been so scared to say out loud so nonchalantly. Oh God please let the floor open up and just swallow me whole.
"A date!? Oh! Um if Ford wants it to be a date..then yeah." I hear (Y/N) say into the phone.
"Excuse her! I am so sorry! I..is a date alright? Don't feel pressured to say yes at all! It is completely understandable if not." I cover my face with my free hand and quietly say into the speaker.
"I would love a date with you Ford..." I hear them speaking but after those 8 words leave their mouth I can't focus on anything else but my heart beating faster than it ever has. This can't be real. I am going on a date with them. An actual date. With the prettiest person to ever step foot into this town!? Oh stars what if I mess this up? I feel myself start to lose my mind to worries and anxiety. Tuning out everything except my own voice.
"Do I need to tell you the address again Fordsy?" I hear their laughter I have come to love so much, slowly bring me back into reality.
"Shoot! Um sorry yeah. Wait let me get a ink pen," I run around the kitchen finding something to write it down, "Okay continue please."
Writing down every number and word they say, brings this entire thing to reality. I am going on my first date ever. Do they know this is my first date? What do they even like? Where do I acquire flowers for a date?!
"So..tomorrow at 7?" A smile coats their voice so sweetly I can't help but smile back as if they can see it.
"Yes. Tomorrow at 7. I will..see you there!" With that we say our goodbyes and hang up. Finally a steady breath finds my lungs and fills them up.
"See!? Wasn't that hard Sixer. Just needed a push." Looking up I see my brother and my ma giving each other a high five. Rolling my eyes, I watch as ma goes to look for a suit that will fit me. Stan looks at me and tells me I can use his cologne that "all the ladies love it on me, surely it can help you". I can't help but smile a little. Silently thanking them for the help. I slowly walk to my room and find myself laying in the bed I have spent countless night dreaming. Dreaming of how I can ask them out, maybe the stars heard me? If I ever visit the stars, I will have to thank them. A big smile finds its way to my face. Maybe everything will be okay.
The next few hours are spent with Ford's eyes wide open. Imagining everything that could happen. Many thoughts circle the Young man's head. 'The possibility of this date going completely perfect is slim to none' , 'What do we do?' , 'I have to impress them. make them want to do this date thing again'. Ford slowly drifts off to sleep imagining the chances of this working out. Stan creeps into the room and smiles at the twin asleep cuddling against a pillow. A smile on the older Pines brother, bigger than Stan has ever seen on the usual stoic and serious face.
⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘
Ahh! Chapter 3! Sorry for the shorter chapter! Didn't want to put the date and the phone call all in one. Gotta stretch it out wink wink. I hope you all are as excited as I am for the date.

Event: Beautiful Dreamers
Chapter 01 - Gideon Gleeful
Chapter 02 - Pacifica Northwest
Chapter 03 - Dipper Pines
Chapter 04 - Wendy Corduroy
Chapter 05 - Stanley Pines
Chapter 06 - Jesus Ramirez
Chapter 07 - Mabel Pines
Chapter 08 - Fiddleford H. McGucket
Chapter 09 - Robbie Valentino
Chapter 10 - Stanford Pines
Dreams are something of a mystery. No one, not a single scientist, knows why we dream. Are we simply filtering through memories as we sleep? Are our subconscious trying to tell us something? Or are we tapping into a realm beyond our reality?
=============================================
While Ford has always had sleeping issues – mostly due to mild insomnia and overnight studying, both Stan and Fiddleford could testify – his stint with Bill and dealing with multiverse horrors had given the six-fingered man a fear of sleeping.
It was as vulnerable as you can get, both in the physical and astral/mental plane.
It took the joint effort of Stan and Ford to get the latter some well overdue rest weeks into their boating trip. Granted, Ford would sometimes be stubborn about it if something he was fixated on got his entire attention. But, if there was a sign of Ford getting sleepy, Stan would talk his brother into their room to take a nap on Stan’s bottom bunk.
▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△-▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△-▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△-▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△-▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△
Ford had taken notice of the different changes to his dreamscape.
His first time there was that of starry space, marked by words and equations and a plethora of books, when he first encountered Bill Cipher. It wouldn’t be until sometime later that he learned this was just the upper half of his mindscape.
On ground level, there was golden wheat as far as the eye could see. In the sky, endless stars, constellations, and galaxies.
After the creation of the portal and the entering of said portal, he could no longer see the starry sky above, blocked by the oppressive smog that coated the skies. He was also surrounded by three reminders of his greatest failures and mistakes: A broken dream, a torn bond, and the loss of a friend.
Now…after everything…things were different.
The broken down portal was still present in the distance, but it no longer casted a looming shadow in Ford’s mindscape. The sky was no longer obscured, revealing the brilliantly starry sky, somehow much more vibrant than before, the original Stan o’ War was repaired, and small blue flowers decorated the swing set. There are a few new additions.
In the starry sky are constellations, but not the classic 88 ones Ford recognizes from his home dimension. And already lined, too. He still needs time to study them, but of the ones he could decipher…A six-fingered hand, a needle (?), a nautical compass, a pen (or pencil), a cube…and a triangle with an ‘X’...
In a spot within the wheat cleaned away for a couple of shelves containing numerous books and a table containing a DD&MoreD board and a chair with a vibrant sweater hung limply.
While Ford was enjoying the new look…he couldn’t shake off a sense of unease.
A black book fell from one of the shelves. Ford approached the fallen tome and went to pick it up and put it back. The moment he touched black leather, an ice cold chill surged through him. He turned the book around and – in the middle of a triangle – a crimson eye opened on the cover and stared directly at him.
He dropped the book like it burned him and it opened itself and the pages flipped from an unknown source.
Ford looked at his hands – sources of his pride and disdain – shaking and black veins were becoming visible as small, triangular particles manifested.
He can feel the veins spreading in his body, like a parasite…
More crimson eyes made themselves known around Ford. Each and every one of them looked at him.
The air around grew dark…the sky above turned red and cracked…the eyes continued to stare…
And he regrettably stared back and shuddered as he somehow saw himself within the black of a slitted pupil.
Those black veins have reached his face…
He was just as red as all of the eyes…
And…his right eye…the white turned black and his blue iris a deadly crimson and slitted…
And bleeding?
▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△-▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△-▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△-▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△-▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△
After having a nap of his own on deck, Stan went to their room to check on Ford.
The elder twin was still sound asleep and Stan was just going to leave it at that. Every moment of rest was precious for them. That is until Stan noticed a look on Ford’s face, as he was facing away from the wall.
There was a look on Ford’s face, his forehead and brows bunched together, his nose would twitch, and there was a faint hint of a snarl curling his upper lip. Whatever Ford was dreaming…it wasn’t pleasant.
As much as Stan wanted to wake Ford…he felt he shouldn’t. The scientist had already gone through an all-nighter and Stan didn’t want to interrupt this sleep. Instead, he tip-toed his way to the bottom and carefully - as best as he could - lowered down to take a seat on the mattress and hope that the shift in weight doesn’t wake Ford. Stan reached over and started carding his fingers through Ford’s dark gray curls and prayed that this would soothe his brother’s mind.
Stan felt both pride and relief when he heard Ford’s breathing even out and his face relaxed. Stan closed his eyes, still stroking his brother’s head and just enjoying this silent moment.
A small drop of blood trickled from Ford’s right eye and stained Stan’s pillow.

(ask game) ACD John Watson!
Thank you, anon!
JOHN WATSON
Favorite thing about them: I love it whenever he's allowed to be a bit of a massive bitch. When ACD lets him be petty and mean, such as when he decided to arbitrarily dislike Doulgas' wife because she was laughing with another man just a few days after his death. It gives him such a clear personality flaw, and yet one that I can't really make fun of all that much because I also act like that. Gives him a personality, even if he barely focuses on himself when he writes.
Least favorite thing about them: He's more of a writing tool than a character sometimes, to the point where there are instances where he just speaks and speaks about other people and just downplays himself. There are times in which I wish he could've shown more character, such as when Holmes comes back from the dead and his only damn reaction is passing out and then afterwards everything's okay immediately like bro where's your fucking anger where's your rage
Favorite line: "It was worth a wound--it was worth many wounds--to know the depth of loyalty and love which lay behind that cold mask". I have it memorized, yeah
brOTP: Surprisingly enough, I don't really have one with him. While I do believe that there's a lot of potential in pairing, for example, Sherlock Holmes with Isa Whitney (from Man With a Twisted Lip), where the two of them can help each other heal from their addictions, I don't see anyone in the canon who could have a similar role in Watson's life. Perhaps I would if Doyle explored his relationship with Stanford, Phelps, Thurston, and the two doctors that were willing to take care of his practice in the canon. Sigh
OTP: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson/Mary Morstan, but like all variations of it. Holmes and Watson being queerplatonic, and Watson and Mary banging. The two of them sharing Watson because he has two hands. Lavender marriage. They just work.
nOTP: I don't have one
Random headcanon: He's left handed and pretends he's right handed (for prejudice reasons), which causes his handwriting to be ugly as hell. People sometimes joke that that's a doctor's handwriting, but he gets really uncomfortable because his actual handwriting looks nice. He writes his letters to Holmes with his left hand, 'cause he wants him to be able to read what he says, but he never admits to it. Holmes knows though.
Unpopular opinion: We, as a society, have grown too afraid of drawing Dr. John H. Watson as a fat, balding man. He's still hot, btw, all the boys and ladies want a snack out of him, but he's FAT and there's A RECEDING HAIRLINE ON HIS HEAD.
Song I associate with them: In Our Bedroom After the War - Stars
Favorite picture of them:

10 Things I hate about you (Be The Young 29)
GIANT TW which will be valid for each episode for suicidal thoughts, SELF H*RM, violence, cursing, relatives dying, mentions of s*x, s*xual assault
All chapter titles are song titles, some of them translated from Italian songs. We start from the first season and make out way through the series. I will break canon (mostly from the S2 finale) but will try to get back into it for the sake of ✨ lore ✨ .
Summary: Emily Reed, born and raised in Portland, is preparing her admission papers for Stanford, medical school. Little does she know, her life is about to change forever.
"After reading this whole letter, call John Winchester. [...] He’s your real father."
A/N:   idk guys, call it the musical episode, it kind of is
MASTERLIST
10 things I hate about you
Sometimes I miss when we were in it
So I made a list so I never forget
All the things I hate about you
10, your selfish
“So, did the angels bring you back in time? Was it Castiel?” Asked Emily, hanging out in the back of the Impala, skimming through a book. They were traveling towards Missouri to help another hunter with a case.
“Yeah, I saw my parents and my grandparents.” Dean had just finished talking about how Castiel brought him back in time to explain to him what Azazel wanted from them. Of course Ramiel had not lost the chance of bringing Emily back as well.
“What did you see?” Asked Dean, not taking his eyes away from the road.
“You really want to know?” Emily scratched her nose.
“I’m actually kind of curious. Is dad involved?”
“Oh- trust me. He is.”
“So?”
Emily started telling her brothers how her whole story began. “Basically, my mom got pregnant with me out of revenge and spite.” She said. “She had a wonderful husband, caring, and they were perfectly normal. Her hunting life was behind her, for good. But there was just one problem.” Emily pretended to be the narrator of a movie and gestured in front of her mysteriously, leaning in between the front seats. “A problem that would change her life…“ She paused. “FOREVER!” She screamed and Dean and Sam smiled, clearly enjoying her scene. “That problem was… me, or better, the lack of me. She really wanted a child, but could not get pregnant.”
“Wait, how did she go from no kids to two kids?” Asked Sam, interrupting her imitation.
“Samuel, too much rush, you feel.” She suddenly switched to Yoda from Star Wars. “Shutting the fuck up, you must.” She cleared her voice and went back to talking suggestively. Sam seemed very amused. “I was saying… She could not get pregnant and so, desperate, she summoned a crossroad demon, expecting a normal deal. Ten years were more than enough for her to disappear and never be found again by him. Or at least, that’s what she thought.” She paused and looked at Sam and Dean, waiting for a sign of approval of her performance. Dean gestured to her to keep going. “HOWEVER!” She said, a little too loud for the size of the car. “The demon did not offer her ten years. He asked for her permission to come back to her house. He promised that nothing wrong was going to happen if she let him be. He did not specify how many times, and my mother didn’t ask.” She made another pause. “So, her wish was granted, but it was too late. When she came back home, she saw something nobody would ever want to see! Can you guess what it was?” She pointed to Dean, who shrugged. Sam, instead played her game and tried to guess: “Her husband was dead?”
“No.”
“Her husband was a shapeshifter?”
“No!”
“He was… a demon?”
“What?!” Laughed Emily.
“Ghost?”
“Absolutely not-” She tried to continue explaining but could not contain her laugh anymore. ”...no, no, she found him with another woman!” Emily finally explained.
“Ouch!” Finally Dean intervened. “That's not good.”
“Oh, and that's nothing.” Continued Emily. “My mother followed them for the rest of the night and found out he had a whole other family with this woman, who was, coincidentally, pregnant again. So all her work was in vain, as her marriage was destroyed.”
“So…“ Sam encouraged her to keep telling.
“So!” She snapped her fingers in front of him. “This is where John Winchester comes in. My mother was enraged, vengeful. So she went out for a drink. Or many. She met dad and my mother found out he was a hunter. They exchanged opinions and theories about a local case and kept seeing each other for a while. Apparently my mother had more experience than dad, who had just been hunting for a couple years. They liked each other, they slept together and-” Emily pointed at herself. “Nine months later I popped out of her.” She stopped suggestively gesturing in front of her face and went back to her normal voice. “When I was six months old Azazel came to turn me, and my mother let him be, as they had agreed, but when he came for Alex she had probably forgotten or thought she could fight him aaaand, that’s how I ended up here.”
“Did you really have to make it so dramatic?” Asked Dean.
9, you’re jaded
“Shut up, you loved it.” She smiled. Sam seemed pretty amused.
“What about the demon blood?” Asked Dean, curious. “I'm guessing you got your healthy dose?”
“Oh, I wish I could tell you it was just one dose. Son of bitch gave me a whole bottle. I don't think my mother ever knew something like that had happened.”
“Well, that explains a lot of things.” He sighed. “Including what he meant when he said you were in a control group.”
“I'm a demon guinea pig. Very fun experience.” She said, sarcastic.
Sam looked at her through the rearview mirror, but didn't say anything. Emily raised her eyebrows and he immediately looked away.
You alright? She asked Sam, telepathically.
Yeah- just figured out what Ruby meant when she said you could have helped
Yeah, about that, sorry I snitched
It's alright, it was probably for the best
They quickly smiled at each other and then Emily leaned back in the seat.
Can I say something else? Sam's voice reached Emily.
Of course.
In the last two years… didn't you and Dean figure out yet how to get along? Really?
We tried- did he not tell you about what happened while you were away?
He's been very secretive about it.
Emily quickly gazed at Dean. Figures.
What do you mean?
“You guys talking about me or something?” Dean's voice distracted Emily from her mental conversation with Sam.
“What makes you think that?” Asked Sam.
“Emily keeps moving her hands as if she was talking and you keep staring at me.”
Emily and Sam exchanged a quick gaze before the younger just gave out a deep sigh and confessed. “Did you not tell Sam about what happened after he died?” To those words, Dean peeled his eyes away from the street and looked back at Emily for a second. Then, his gaze went harder and he went back at staring an indefinite point in front of him.
8, the dumbest guy I dated
“Can we not talk about it?” He asked.
“Dean, we have to talk about it. It doesn't have to be now, but at one point we-”
“Who says that?” He interrupted. “Who says we have to talk about it?”
“I do!” Snapped Emily. “I don't even understand why you would hide it!”
7 talk a big name, ‘til you’re naked
“I don't exactly come out of that story looking good, you know.” He pointed at himself.
“Ah, sorry- didn't mean to destroy your reputation with your own brother!” She said, sarcastic.
“Sure, whatever you say.” He tried to dismiss her, but Emily had other plans
“Whatev-” She was about to go at him with bad words, but Sam started talking.
“Wait, Emily, wait.” He raised his hand to stop her. She rolled her eyes. “What could ever be so bad you don't want to tell me?”
Dean glared at Emily again. She sighed and leaned back in her seat. She quickly gestured at Sam that they would talk later and went back to looking out the window.
only 6 seconds and I had to fake it
But Sam deserved the truth. Emily knew she had to tell him.
Halfway to Missouri they stopped to rest and to eat. Sam and Emily went inside a supermarket to get some food while Dean drove away to get gas.
“You should try a salad for once. Who knows, maybe you’ll discover you like it.” Commented Sam, pointing to a pre-packaged salad similar to the one he was about to buy. Emily took it and read the label. “It actually doesn’t sound that bad.” She looked back at the sandwich she was still holding. She shrugged and put the sandwich back on the shelf and exchanged it for the salad. “You have a terrible influence on me.” She commented. Sam laughed.
“What should we get Dean?” He continued, skimming through the shelf.
“A whole bottle of ranch dressing? I’m sure he’d like it.”
“Let’s get him this.” He pulled out a turkey sandwich.
Dean was waiting for them outside the shop, impatient. They started eating while sitting on a bench. “What is that?” Dean pointed to Emily’s salad. “Since when do you eat rabbit food?”
“It’s good! Want some?” She offered him a fork full of vegetables with a smile. He refused with a disgusted grimace. “Your loss, dude.” She shrugged and turned to Sam: he was staring in front of him, lost in his thoughts.
“Hey, earth calling Sam!” Emily waved a hand in front of him. “Are you okay?” Sam seemed raised from his trance-like state.
“Yeah, sorry, just-” He paused a second to look at him and Emily, who gestured to him to keep talkin. “Nothing, it's all good.”
“Are you sure?”
Sam hesitated for a second before answering. “It’s just I noticed something and-”
“What is it, Sam?” Intervened Dean. From Sam’s gaze Emily knew that whatever he was about to say, they would not have liked it. “So, Emily, how come everytime you interact with Dean you feel a- like rush of adrenaline?”
“A what?” She scratched her nose, confused.
“I don’t know, at the beginning I just thought it was a coincidence, but it’s every single time you talk to each other.”
Emily glared over at Dean and exhaled. She didn't answer and kept eating.
“Guys, what-”
“Alright, Sam, I know where you’re trying to go and we are not going there.” Intervened Dean. “This is not the time to talk about what happened while you were dead, okay? Drop it.”
Emily kept staring in front of them, thinking that if she ignored them, eventually they had to stop fighting.
“Why?” Asked Sam. “What the hell must have happened to make it so hard to talk about?”
“Nothing, I- I just don't want to talk about it, okay?” Emily closed her eyes, quickly running our of patience.
“I'm your brother, there's nothing you can't talk to me about, you-”
“I know that, but I still don't want to-”
“SHUT UP!” Screamed Emily, covering her face with her hands. She combed her hair back. Both her brothers quickly closed their mouths. “This is not a decision you get to make alone!” She pointed to Dean. “There were two of us living in that mess and I say he has to know!”
“So what, so he can worry about me? About you? Come on, it's just gonna bring more problems!” He answered. Emily could feel words she was going to regret slowly taking place in the back of her brain, but she was not fast enough to stop herself.
“Is that what this is about?! You don't want Sam to know how messed up you are?” She stood up and placed her lunch on the bench.
“What did you just say?”
“I said you’re messed up!” She yelled. Dean stood up in front of her. “What are you gonna do, uh?! Are you going to punch me?” Emily looked at Dean and raised her eyebrows, challenging him. “It can't hurt more than it used to hurt when you were blacked out drunk, can it?” After looking at Emily for a second, clearly angry, Dean sighed, rolled his eyes and turned the opposite way. Emily glared at Sam, who seemed shocked. “Right, turn around. Keep running from your problems, see how they solve themselves.”
Dean sharply turned back facing Emily. “You're talking about running?” Seeing the situation was not defusing itself, Sam stood up as well.
5, you're toxic
“Don't you get started again with-” Emily tried to say, but Dean cut her short.
“You left when I needed you the most! So don't come here judging me about running from my problems!”
“I left? Really?!”
“Well, it wasn’t me who walked out of Bobby’s house on a random Tuesday morning!”
“On a random morning? What are you even talking about? I was forced to leave!”
“You didn’t even try to stay!”
“I tried for MONTHS! I was there for you even when you tried to push me away, I listened to you cry and I let you punch the shit out of me and-” He words were interrupted by a sob Emily had not seen coming. “I- I tried to understand you, okay? I tried to get behind the violence and the being drunk, but I could not be there anymore, it was- Dean it was fucking dangerous!” Emily tried to send away the tears who were about to erupt from her eyes. She sniffed.
4, can’t trust you
“And has it ever occurred to you that I needed someone too? That, for your fault, I had to deal with everything by myself?” Dean didn’t answer. Instead, he sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “You don’t get to tell me that I didn’t try!”
“You were not a saint either, you know? Or did you forget what happened after he died?” Dean pointed at Sam.
“Do you mean when I was about to kill myself because of you or when you were about to kill yourself by selling your soul?” She asked, bitter.
“You know what I'm talking about!”
“Yeah, sure, I'm sure just talking about it would have worked just fine, right? You were going to kill yourself, for god's sake!”
“You can't point all the faults on me!” Continued Dean. “Do you ever accept any responsibility?”
“I don't accept responsibility?” Scoffed Emily. “I spent months of my life thinking of you, you and only you, if you had eaten, if you were too drunk, how to stop you from drinking- What did you want me to do, spoon-feed you?”
3, you still got mommy issues
“I didn’t need you to play mom with me, I can take care of myself!”
“And it shows!” Emily said, sarcastic. “Of course! You always have it under control, don't you? Tell, me did you have it under control while you used me like a punch bag or-”
“Stop bringing it up!”
2 years of bullshit I can't undo
Emily took a deep breath, trying to recollect herself. She knew far too well that Dean and her trying to get out of a fight was almost impossible if none of them backed out.
“Alright, you know what…“ She exhaled, calmer. “You're right. As I said, there were two of us, it's not your fault, it's…“ She glared at Sam, who was standing in the middle of the siblings. “We screwed up. We both did. But you can't pretend it didn't happen.”
1, I hate the fact you made me love you.

Dreams are something of a mystery. No one, not a single scientist, knows why we dream. Are we simply filtering through memories as we sleep? Are our subconscious trying to tell us something? Or are we tapping into a realm beyond our reality?
=============================================
It has been a while since Gideon had acted like a normal kid. So long that he had forgotten how dull schoolwork is, especially since he is smarter than the average ten year old attending the fourth grade. His teachers and even his parents proposed for him to skip a grade or two, but Gideon wanted to be a ‘normal’ kid.
He quickly remembered that he was far from normal when he started doing his math homework that was painfully easy to figure out.
▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△-▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△-▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△-▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△-▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△
Gideon opened his eyes to what looks like the inside of the Tent of Telepathy, but larger in size with rows of empty pews and the area bathed by stars and navy blues and lit candles floating in the air. As for himself, he seems to be coated in a cyan hue, similarly to the candles, making him stick out against the dark colors surrounding him.
Placed beside the pews are multiple pedestals containing an item, each holding memories related to that item. Some of it was little stuff, like an ice cream cone, holding memories of him and his parents having a good time over at the corner shop. Or a board game Gideon remembered playing and his dad letting him win almost all of the time.
Then, there were items like Journal 2. Picking up the book from its pedestal and Gideon was met with a vision of the moment he found it: Gathering dust inside of the library closet and he knew where it went from there.
On the next pedestal was the cursed amulet. He picks it up and sees himself finding the amulet placed inside of a box hidden underneath the roots of a tree. He saw himself performing telekinesis for the first time in front of his parents. They all thought it was a neat trick…until Gideon kept using it.
Gideon sighs ruefully to himself, unaware of the candlelights dimming.
Then…a small light gains his attention. He followed the little orb to the stage, curtains drawn closed. The little orb slipped through the velvet. Gideon peers inside to see what looks like a hunched darkly cloaked, hooded humanoid with a long beard, resembling Spanish moss.
The entity beckoned Gideon closer and…
▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△-▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△-▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△-▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△-▽△▽△▽△▽△▽△
Gideon blinks awake with a piggy snort. He looks around, noticing that he has returned to the real world.
“Goodness me…I must’ve dozed off. It’s been awhile since I’ve entered my dreamscape. It looked a little different from before. Less portraits of Mabel and no ragdolls resembling my enemies on chains…” Gideon mused. “I guess that means I’ve gotten better.”
He looks down at his homework and sees what he has written in his sleep.
FALLL
The supposed third ‘L’ had a long squiggly line attached to it, likely from Gideon waking up.
“This is…mildly unnerving,” Gideon commented, slightly perturbed. “Maybe an after effect of Weirdmageddon?” He starts erasing the bold letters off his school work. “Let’s just put this on the back burner for the time being.”

Future Leaders in Aerospace prepares the next generation for research careers
Tumblr media Tumblr media
MIT’s Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AeroAstro) recently hosted the 2023 Future Leaders in Aerospace Symposium, inviting women and underrepresented minorities in aerospace fields to campus for a two-day program. The symposium was open to applications from recent graduates and students within one to two years of earning their PhD, with the goal of helping early-career academics to launch and navigate an academic career in aerospace engineering.
Hosted annually, the event’s co-sponsors included the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University, the Ann and H. J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and the Penn State Department of Aerospace Engineering. MIT AeroAstro began the program as “Rising Stars” nearly a decade ago as a way to offer its growing population of women engineers a pathway to leadership and research careers. Partner universities soon signed on to co-sponsor and co-host the event, spurred on by MIT alumni entering those universities’ faculties and bringing with them their enthusiasm for the program. Since then the program has expanded to include people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals, all of whom have historically been underserved by academia.
“We started this many years ago so that we could convene, meet each other, know each other, because you are the future leaders we’re counting on,” Dava Newman, Apollo Program Professor of Astronautics, told participants in her opening remarks.
“This event is an opportunity to share our knowledge and experiences about the faculty search process as well as to hear the latest in research from the participants’ lightning talks,” says Professor Kerri Cajoy, chair of AeroAstro’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee. “Connecting with the other senior faculty, junior faculty, and keynote speakers in attendance and hearing their perspectives and experiences is also valuable.”
A practical guide to academia
This year’s Future Leaders in Aerospace focused on the pragmatic realities of establishing an academic career. The participants, representing 13 universities from across the United States, presented their research to their peers and faculty for feedback — an early jump on the job talks that are a key part of any faculty search. These technical sessions spanned a huge array of topics across aerospace fields, from Ariel Black’s (Purdue University) “Characterizing Cislunar Fragmentation Events” to Tara Mina’s (Stanford) “Toward the Next Generation of GPS,” underscoring the diversity of interests and perspectives and new ideas.
“This has been amazing, I’m really loving the opportunity to network and get to know my peers in the same place in their careers as me,” said Anaiya Reliford (Howard University.) “It’s great to see how different everyone’s work is. It really shows the interdisciplinary nature of aerospace fields.”
Faculty panels offered advice and insights based on experience. “Starting Your Career,” moderated by Professor Chuchu Fan, covered such topics as fundraising and grant writing, launching a research group, and getting teaching experience. Their advice ranged from the starkly practical — “The best way to write a really good research proposal is to write a lot of bad ones first” — to the nuanced and heartfelt.
“You’ll get more support than you expected. When I first went on the job market I’d just had my son, he was several months old. I wondered if I should wait a year or more before even applying,” Fan told the participants. “But I found that if you ask for help, people are really willing to offer it. I got offers like, you can bring your baby to the interview. If you don’t have a nanny we can hire one while you’re here. I could ask for breaks during the interviews. Don’t hesitate over whether this is a good time — don’t be afraid to ask for what you need.” Fan herself attended a Rising Stars in EECS (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) workshop as a PhD in 2016, before joining the MIT faculty in 2020.
The other panels — the Faculty Application Process, moderated by Professor Kerri Cahoy; Mentoring, Tenure, and Promotion, moderated by Professor Dan Hastings; and Work-Life Balance, moderated by Professor Carmen Guerra-Garcia — all struck similar notes of honest candor. Some common themes emerged across all of the panels, as well as the keynotes from Heidi Hammel (NASA/James Webb Space Telescope), Sonya Smith (Howard University), and Zachary Cordero (MIT). Among these were the necessity of learning by doing, accepting failure as part of the process, and, perhaps most of all, just going for it — whatever “it” is, whether applying for tenure-track faculty jobs, submitting multi-million dollar research proposals, or asking for housing and child care.
Professor Lonnie Peterson summed it up succinctly: “There’s never a perfect time to apply, you have to just do it. Maybe there’s never a right time in general, for anything — so if you flip that, one time is as good as any.”

[INTERVIEW] Suho - 220531 The National News: “EXO's Suho: We hope to bring some new music to the UAE”
"The K-pop star has set another milestone with a fountain show in Dubai featuring more of his work as a solo artist.
Tumblr media
It was four years ago when Suho made history with his EXO bandmates as their hit Power became the first K-pop song to be played at the Dubai Fountain.
Now, as a solo artist, he has returned to the emirate as his latest single, Hurdle, makes its debut at Dubai Festival City Mall's fountain show. The song, from his latest mini album, Grey Suit, will be played ongoing during the Imagine laser and light display.
“To have my song play at the fountain show as a solo artist makes me very happy," Suho tells The National. "The fact that not only people in Dubai, but tourists from worldwide, can come and hear my song makes me very excited."
Tumblr media
Hurdle was also the singer’s favourite song to record, making the moment even more special for him. “It is a very exciting song and very different from the songs on the album. While I was recording it I sang it in different ways as well. I just had a lot of fun recording it.”
Grey Suit, which was released on April 4, has a rock-pop vibe and reflects on Suho's time away from fans because of mandatory military service for all South Korean male citizens. Suho, whose real name is Kim Jun-myeon, enlisted in May 2020 and says he prepared the album within six months while serving.
“I met with producers as well while I was at the military,” he says.
His love for rock is evident throughout Grey Suit and he says his infatuation with the genre began when he was in high school. “When I used to feel sad and lonely, I used to listen to a rock artist named Nell for comfort.
“Five years ago when Coldplay came to Korea — even with the language barrier, seeing they could communicate so well with fans — that is when I really fell for rock." He says he plans to incorporate more rock in future music.
This is his second mini album after Self Portrait, which was released in March 2020. He says his first album was more about EXO's Suho, while the second album has more of a focus on the last two years of his life, while serving conscription.
Tumblr media
He isn't the only EXO member to fulfil mandatory military service. Back in May 2019, Xiumin became the first member to enlist, followed shortly by D.O. in July 2019 who surprised fans by doing so earlier than expected. Since then, other bandmates have worked on various solo projects and in sub-units, while members take turns completing the 18-month service.
Fans are eagerly awaiting EXO's follow-up to their last album and Suho says the band are equally ready to welcome back fans as the group recently celebrated a decade since their debut, which was on April 8, 2012. He says they plan to “repay the love we received from the 10 years that we have been active”.
He also has a special message for fans in the Middle East.
"My EXO members also want to come see the Arab fans as well," he says. "So we hope that we can bring some new music to the UAE and other Arab fans [can] enjoy.”
Tumblr media
Suho was recently invited as part of Stanford University's Walter H Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Centre's Korea Programme to speak at its 20th anniversary on May 19.
“While I was preparing for the speech I was very nervous because it was my first time doing a fully English speech and I was very worried,” he says. “But the students who came to hear my speech were EXO fans so it was more comfortable and fun to give the speech as if it was a talk show.”
Looking back at lessons he gained from that he experience, he says: “I realised that the communication with K-pop fans is really important and that the responsibility that comes with being a K-pop idol is also very important.”"

reader x stanford - with the whole world falling down on me
((a/n: major tw for s/h under the cut in this one. it never happens but it gets real close. there’s also depiction of a panic attack. if either of these might be upsetting please don't read. take care of yourselves, please. cross posted to ao3.
writing a lil one shot to deal with bad thoughts.))
~ ~ ~
Too loud. Too bright. Too much.
Everything felt like too much, it felt like the weight of the world was crushing down onto your chest, leaving a burning feeling in your lungs.
You don't remember the last time things got this bad.
Yet the most clear emotion of all the feelings in a whirlwind inside your brain was loneliness.
Your beloved had gone out a while ago, and while you knew you could easily reach out to him with a call, you didn't move from your spot on the bathroom floor.
'Don't bother him, don't burden him with your stupid little problems...' a dark, sour sort of voice chimed in your mind.
You tried to drown out the awful voice, but you couldn't help but fear that it was right.
Fear that if you reached out too much to Ford, that he would grow annoyed by your neediness and leave you alone.
So instead you went to your alternate option.
The box cutter in your hand gleamed hungrily in the flickering light of the bathroom.
The blade was pressed against the skin. All it would take was one movement.
But before your arm budged, a familiar voice called from outside the door.
"Love, are you alright in there."
"F-Ford?" You struggle to hide the tremors of anxiety in your voice from your worried boyfriend. "I thought you were at the grocery store..."
"I was, I just got back. You didn't answer my question." The words came out with barely restrained concern, yet with an almost knowing tone.
"Why w-wouldn't I be?" You try to keep your own tone casual.
"Because I noticed one of the boxcutters missing." You feel your face heat up with shame, at a loss for any sort of response as the hand holding your source of shame shook in your grasp.
Behind the door, the scientist's fears were confirmed by the ensuing silence. His stomach plummeted to the floor with dread, but he knew he needed to stay calm for your sake.
"Dear, can you let me in, please?" He tried to keep the panic out of his voice as he spoke.
'Please be okay, please be okay, please stars let them be okay.'
"I'm sorry, Ford." You had said, internally screaming at yourself for making him worry.
"You have nothing to apologize for, love. Just please let me see you."
Ford felt his heart pound in his ear, his mind racing with all kind of awful scenarios of you being hurt, and him being too late to help, too late in noticing something wrong why didn't he notice something was wrong you could be bleeding out and he was too late-
His thoughts were interrupted by a near silent click of the door being unlocked. He didn't waste any time in entering, mentally ready for the worst.
When he saw you, sitting on the floor with your arms wrapped around your legs, (the boxcutter, to Ford's relief, on the floor away from you) he was by your side in an instant.
For your part, you had been silently filled with shame and self hatred when you felt yourself pulled into a soft, careful embrace. You didn't need to open your eyes to know who it was, the familiar feeling of soft wool and the familiar scent of the forests and ink making you feel at ease.
Stanford, looking at you with a look of deep concern, could only ask, "Did you..."
You simply shook your head, the overload of emotions finally beginning to recede like the tide, leaving a tiredness behind. Stanford had visibly calmed, and rested a hand on your head soothingly.
A part of you had expected disappointment. Anger even. But Stanford's tone held nothing but a loving care as he spoke again.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I... I was afraid of being too much. That I would burden you." Stanford has frowned in response.
"You're one of the most important things in my life. There's nothing that could be too much, nothing that I wouldn't do to keep you safe." You felt tears well up in your eyes, Stanford's confession hitting you right in the heart with how much love and devotion was in it. "And I know I can't stop you from doing...this...but please promise me you'll reach out to me if you ever feel like this again."
"I'll try..." You reply quietly. All you want to do is snuggle up in Ford's sweater forever and just forget about the rest of the world. "I love you."
"I love you too, dear."
