In this AU, Powder is an elite spy whose goal is to infiltrate Piltover. In order to build a fake family to help with her infiltration, she adopts telepath Isha, who's a telepath. As she founds a spouse, she runs into Ekko, whom she fake marries. Unbeknownst to her, Ekko is a master assassin, whose code name is "Firelight." They decide to use the last name "Forger", and Powder chooses her civilian alias as "Jinx." They enroll Isha in Piltover Academy in order to get closer to the Kiramman noble family.

in my head I call them the tech core: Margo, Peni, Miles G, and maybe sometimes Hobie (since it's ambiguous how techy he is/isn't in movies canon)

It's not that they're not friends with anyone else; it's not that they're cliquey or anything--they just naturally develop a specific type of friendship and working relationship due to being the members of the Spider-Band who are often banding together to work on tech issues for their friend group (since I like to imagine the Society sort of dissolves and becomes more of a loose network/community after BTSV, the Spider-Band sort of becomes a "pocket" of their own in that). In my mind, they're not the ones who came up with the name; it was probably Miles 1610 I think. Maybe Peter B.

Anyway, they have a fun sort of relationship with each other.

Hobie is the DIY guy, where the rest of them are like "well we'd need to have this part to create that effect" and he's like "just use [the most random assortment of parts you can think of]" and they're like ??? and he's like ugh let me show you. and then he does.

also he insists on style. the others ask him why he went in such a roundabout way instead of a more straightforward way, and he's like, "well straightforward would look like shit innit"

(Miles G quietly agrees with him and admires him for that, but will outwardly disagree, especially in more pressing circumstances. Margo loves a good aesthetic but thinks it shouldn't come before function, because efficient functioning is stylish. Peni insists that she never needs to sacrifice function for style or style for function because she's "just that good.")

Margo is the software/coding girlie. If you need some huge system built (or broken down), she's your girl. She's done really big, complex projects, like her own avatar and a lot of work on the Go Home Machine. Less skilled at the physical hardware side of things, but knows enough to get by with the caliber of projects she likes doing.

What she does is pretty similar to Peni, honestly, but the difference between Peni's relationship with coding and Margo's is the scope and the size. Margo is intertwined with coding and software systems--they're literally in her brain (bc of my headcanon that she has neural implants), and she's able to physically go into them as Spider-Byte. Because of that layer of physicality, she's able to build and navigate programs with a ton of complex shades, layers, and a lot of scope. It's similar to building an architectural project.

...Whereas Peni is more focused. She's psychically linked to the spider that pilots SP//DR, yes, but when she's navigating non-SP//DR systems she honestly kinda can't be bothered to take the scenic route. She's to the point: what do I need to do, where do I need to do it, what's the fastest way there. Not because she hates coding, but she prides herself on her efficiency :)

She's also capable of working with mechanical parts, like they all are, but her knowledge is pretty SP//DR centric. It's kind of a nostalgic personal thing for her, even, because it relates back to her dad so much... she has memories of her dad in the workshop, working on SP//DR, and now when she does the same thing she's hyperaware of how she's following in his footsteps.

Miles G is all about tools and gadgets. Not exactly DIY in the same way as Hobie (though they can be similar), but Miles G loves building and designing stuff that can be endlessly added on to and altered and redesigned... like, his claws, his mask, his rocket shoes, and most of the stuff in his belt and pockets is stuff that has a ton of different uses he built on top of the "main" use, and for a lot of them he has a few different ways in mind that he could alter/adjust them pretty quickly if he needed them to do something else. You see what I'm saying? He likes versatility and flexibility in his stuff, and that's how he likes to design it. Of course he also likes to look cool, and designs around that as well, unless he's on a time crunch, in which case he'll prioritize efficiency.

He's also better with hardware (like the physical parts and pieces of tech) than Margo or Peni, though I'm sure Hobie could match him... not in the same way, though, since Miles G is used to using actual mechanical parts that are widely used, and not random stuff so much. Call it his uncle's influence.
