Every once in a while I get the urge to carve a stamp. I’ve got a writing project, nearly finished, that I’m looking to launch in the coming year, so I’m noodling on a cute stamp to celebrate it. Or perhaps even a pin? Those are also fun to design :o

Working on my merch for launching shop on Etsy, and slowly preparing for next con.

I was really inspired from Japanese red stamps ans sigils.

What do you think, is it readable?

I’m procrastinating on the tarot deck. Still, designing some stamps for future use.

So I went through my old college artwork the other day and found an assignment I did. It was to create a stamp design featuring a celebrity from the state/country of your origin. Back then I was still figuring out painting in photoshop and I remember liking the the assignment and my design, but could not get the execution right. Looking at it now, I felt I could improve on it, not just in the rendering, but the total design, so I decided to do some homework voluntarily and made a new version. I really enjoyed it, reimagining this stamp design with new colors and new composition. I still kept the same subject matter, that being Thor Heyerdahl, as his life was filled with adventure and exploration. I’ve also included the original version so you can be the judge if things got better or not.

Stamp Seal with a Toadstool Base. Manufactured in the 2nd half of the 19th century, presumed Russian origin. Materials are vermeil (silver gilded with gold), enamel paint and shell. From the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire, Geneva, inventory number: 018080.
