My short-short story “Circus at Twilight” is in this year’s Fark Fiction Anthology. All proceeds go to St. Jude Children's Cancer Research Hospital, so maybe give it a look :)
I hate to link to Bezos but it’s apparently the only place selling it:

definitely one of the most difficult moments of my professional career was when i was doing tech support for [REDACTED]'s automated biomed research lab and like. hang on lemme greentext this
>tell them i can fix this issue in half an hour with a remote support session (aka Teamviewer)
>"you want to... control our computers???? over the internet????? like some kind of HACKER???????"
>their IT submits my request to upper management and after two weeks they reluctantly allow me to get remote access to their systems
>by logging into a virtual machine using a 20-digit password and then using a specific program inside of that virtual machine
>while sharing my screen with someone from their IT team the entire time
>finally get remote access to the PC with the issue
>go to open log files to start troubleshooting
>ERROR: User does not have read permissions.
>what the fuck
>ask their IT guy why it's saying that
>"...because we don't want you looking at our stuff, duh?"
>take deep breath before calmly explaining that i need to open files in order to fix their problem
>IT guy submits my request to upper management
>after another week i go through the whole process again but can actually open the log file this time
>cool, it's exactly the issue i thought it was and i know exactly how to solve it
>open the relevant settings file, change a single number, hit Save
>ERROR: User does not have write permissions.
>what the FUCK
>ask IT guy how i'm supposed to fix their system if i can't change literally anything on it
>takes 20 minutes of arguing to get him to admit that maybe i need write access
>he submits the request to upper management
>a week goes by
>upper management denies it
>says i can just verbally tell the IT guy on the call what to type and he'll do it for me
>deep breaths. deep breaths.
>start third remote session
>go to open the relevant .log file in notepad, which isn't the default program it opens with for some reason
>they fucking disabled right clicking
>[REDACTED] has a $118 billion market cap btw
>manage to walk the IT guy through using the command line (which he had never seen before and was scared of) to edit the relevant file
>three weeks go by
>new support ticket in my inbox
>"why didn't your fix fix this completely unrelated issue?"
>they still won't give me write access
>VP of [REDACTED] yells at me in our weekly meeting for taking so long to fix a third unrelated issue they never submitted a ticket for and is also not actually an "issue" but an intended feature of our software that they don't like
>i went to college for this
#second worst part of that job was getting emails from a customer like#“hey can you bump our ticket to the top of the queue? it's really impacting our ability to do research. no pressure though! :)”#and then i'd check who it's from and it's fucking St. Jude's Children's Hospital#“no pressure but you are directly killing kids with cancer”

The remainder of the crew’s time in orbit was spent carrying out nearly 40 science experiments and research, including some that sought to better understand space adaptation syndrome — a type of microgravity-specific motion sickness.
Gillis, a trained violinist, also brought her instrument along for the mission and delivered a rendition of “Rey’s Theme” from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Gillis’ music was sent back to Earth using SpaceX’s Starlink as a test of the satellite network’s potential to provide in-space connectivity.
Menon also took time to read a book she coauthored — called “Kisses From Space” — to her family as well as a group of patients from St. Jude Children’s Hospital as part of a fundraiser.
Sunday’s anticipated return marks the conclusion of the third trip to space for the specific Crew Dragon capsule powering the Polaris Dawn mission.
The spacecraft — named “Resilience” by the NASA astronauts onboard its first trip to space in November 2020 called (Crew-1) — flew the 2021 Inspiration 4 mission.
That trip, also funded by Isaacman, saw him and three crewmates circle Earth for three days as part of a fundraiser for childhood cancer research.

And that's a wrap to the event! Thank you again to all those who made this possible.
I'd like to also ask now that the event is over to take some time to be generous and give where you can. Charity is important every day but the holidays are known for giving so I want to reach out, ask for followers to consider helping those in need where you can. To help Gaza, check out out my Palestine post or this post with a larger list of charities. To help children have a brighter holiday season, consider St Jude's (childhood cancer research and treatment), Ronald McDonald House (housing for families to be closer to children's hospitals while their kid is sick) or Save the Children (very trusted charity that is helping children grow up safe and healthy, also helping out in Gaza). But of course most of all look into your local charities where you make the most difference. Donate to local soup kitchens, homeless shelters, animal shelters and other opportunities within your communities to help those in need, especially if you can donate your time.
If you can't donate for whatever reason, get your daily clicks in please. It takes less than two minutes to donate to all their charities.
#not a poll#save palestine#I will be making donations to each of the charities mentioned by name in this as well. it won't be just talk#and I do trust these charities and believe in their cause#will also be donating to one more that's more local as well as toys for tots but didn't want to include an american only charity on here#there may or may not have been some extra because I fell asleep waiting for the holiday stuff to run out… oops

Marlo Thomas Vs. Lily Tomlin
Propaganda
Marlo Thomas - (That Girl) - ann marie from that girl is literally me and my mom's Blorbo From My Shows. <3 Marlo Thomas is beautiful, very funny, and an activist and philanthropist. was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2014. currently serves as National Outreach Director for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a nonprofit pediatric research hospital (founded by her father, Danny Thomas) that focuses on treatment for children's catastrophic diseases, particularly cancer. starred in That Girl from 1966-1971, which centered around a young woman who moves to New York City to become an actress - one of the first tv shows to focus on a leading lady who lived on her own. was only the fourth tv series to be produced by its' female star. the sponsors wanted the series to end with a wedding between Thomas's character and her boyfriend, which she refused because, in her words, "I just can't do that to these women and girls who followed Ann Marie's adventure. I can't now say that the only happy ending is a wedding, because I don't believe it." the final episode instead featured her character taking her now-fiance to a women's lib meeting, which according to Thomas "made nobody happy but me. I loved it."
Lily Tomlin - (Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, Saturday Night Live, Murphy Brown) - She's beautiful and hilarious! Her smile is so bright! photo of her and her partner Jane Wagner (pic below the cut)

Additional propaganda below the cut
Marlo Thomas:
Marlo is an Emmy award winning actress and feminist. She is also the outreach director for St. Jude’s Children Hospital which was founded by her father, Danny Thomas. Her show “That Girl” was one of the first sitcoms to focus on a single woman and helped pave the way for other similar shows like the Mary Tyler Moore Show. The network and the show’s sponsor wanted to end the series with the main character getting married but Marlo fought against it: “…They wanted to end the show with a wedding. I said, "I just can't do that to these women and girls who followed Ann Marie's adventure. I can't now say that the only happy ending is a wedding, because I don't believe it." There was a big ruckus about it, but I wouldn't do it. The last show, Ann Marie took Donald (her fiancé) to a women's lib meeting, which made nobody happy but me. I loved it.“
Along with having stunning dark eyes and iconic hair, Marlo Thomas helped lead the way for shows about young unmarried women living on their own. While it's true that That Girl's heroine Ann Marie had a steady boyfriend throughout, Marlo Thomas was instrumental in keeping her unmarried through the show's run and resisted ending the series with a wedding. Especially in the early seasons, she not only gave the character a charming wistful style (Ann Marie was almost always shown carrying a ladylike pair of gloves when she went out, long after convention dictated), but she kept the character from being too sweet with her comic exaggerations and feisty comebacks.
this article has several good photos from that girl:

IN THE USA!!!). she not only donates a lot of her own money, but she buys donation incentives for people who donate certain amounts of money out of her own pocket!!! i couldn't give less of a shit if she takes a 2nd hand clothing ad. jesus.

Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day
“Life is short, eat dessert first” is a phrase that has been bandied about by a lot of people for reasons both flippant and serious. Although it probably sounds like all fun and games, Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day is one of the more serious embodiments of this phrase, serving to increase awareness about childhood cancer.
For children whose lives may be cut short and who see every day as a blessing, it only makes sense to indulge in life’s little pleasures. And Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day brings that opportunity to everyone in support of this important cause.
History of Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day
Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day was created to commemorate the nine wonderful years of the bright soul that was Malia Grace, born on February 18, 2001. Malia, who passed away after a long fight with cancer on Dec 7, 2010, was an inspiration to everyone around her.
Those who knew her saw that she glowed with the kind of enthusiasm for life that childhood is made of. She embraced knowledge and learning every day, getting outside whenever possible and drinking in her short life with a passion that made each day a new and exciting adventure of its own.
First celebrated on her birthday in 2013 by a group of close friends of Malia to commemorate her life and creativity, the event started out small and was shared with just a few folks on social media. In 2014, the event went public and opened up to include 55 other families of children with cancer.
Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day went on to become a day to honor all of the children who have battled or are battling childhood cancer. It didn’t take long for the day to explode onto the scene, with thousands of people from all over the world taking part and spreading the message to thousands more.
How To Celebrate Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day
Observing and celebrating this day is about more than just the actual act of eating ice cream for breakfast. It’s a day to get involved in the effort to encourage children who have cancer and make an effort to put an end to this terrible disease. Try out some of these ideas for getting involved in this worthy cause:
Make a Donation to Fight Childhood Cancer
For those who are not into ice cream or would like to promote this good cause in other ways, why not look for local hospitals and healthcare centers that are in need of donations, as they help parents and children fight this terrible disease? Certainly, many dollars are needed to research and develop cures for the various cancers that affect children in particular.
St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, Children’s Cancer Research Fund, Make a Wish Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, and the American Childhood Cancer Organization are just a few of the organizations that offer hope and support to children with cancer as well as their families.
Host an Ice Cream for Breakfast Day Fundraiser
Hundreds of children every year benefit from the efforts of various hospitals and organizations. Putting together an Ice Cream For Breakfast Social can help raise spirits and morale, as well as awareness for the need. Grab a few friends and make a plan for serving ice cream in the morning and asking for a donation. Make it a social event at the office, at a school or in the community. Lots of creative ideas can be implemented to make this day special while spreading the word and raising some finances that can be donated to one of the above charities.
Learn Facts About Childhood Cancer
Most people don’t think a great deal about childhood cancer until it happens to them or someone they know and love. But the reality is that it is more prevalent than most people realize. Here are some important things to know and stay informed about childhood cancer:
Globally, more than 300,000 children are diagnosed with cancer every year. Worldwide, this equals a cancer diagnosis for a child every three minutes.
Childhood cancer causes approximately 90,000 deaths each year all over the planet.
70% of childhood cancers are curable, assuming they are caught early and have access to appropriate treatment protocols.
Many families whose child has cancer feel very alone and isolated, so connecting with them through events like Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day is a very encouraging act.
Volunteer at a Children’s Hospital
This might be the day to contact a local child oncology ward and find out what kinds of supplies they need, or arrange to be placed as a volunteer and spend a day with the children playing games and talking. These special children are always eager to drink in the life and experiences of others and to share their own lives with those who come in. They know they’re sick, but they’re also children, and they don’t let that illness get them down. So, one great way to commemorate the day is to commit to being part of their life’s experience by sharing various stories and listening to theirs.
Share Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day with Friends
Celebrating Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day is best done by joining people around the world for an ice-cream breakfast! Join the community by posting a picture of what you’re eating and who you’re eating ice cream for on the Eat Ice Cream For Breakfast Day social media pages. Share the idea with friends, family or coworkers who don’t know about it, to help raise awareness to put an end to childhood cancer.
But isn’t this the wrong date!?
There are actually two holidays that are very similar in name but founded for very different reasons. Today is not to be confused with Ice Cream for Breakfast Day which takes place on the first Saturday of February created in the 1960s by housewife Florence Rappaport from New York. It is possible to read more about how that day got started here.

Donar cabello
❀ ˙ ♡ frase ♡ ˙ ❀
