Ensemble
Maxwell Boko and Mmuso Potsane for Mmusomaxwell
Spring/Summer 2021
Mmusomaxwell is a ready-to-wear womenswear fashion brand based in Johannesburg, South Africa, founded in 2016 by Maxwell Boko and Mmuso Potsane. Boko and Potsane met as contestants on the TV show The Intern, run by designer David Tlale, where they competed to present at South Africa Fashion week. Mmusomaxwell are known for their tailored, minimalist designs, aimed at cosmopolitan working women.
This ensemble is from the Imbokodo collection, released for Spring/Summer 2021. Through this collection Boko and Potsane wanted to critique notions of a woman’s place in society, especially in traditional African cultures. The collection featured 27 pieces in a mixture of bold shapes and colours (mainly yellow, blue, red and black). Many of the designs drew on elements of a man’s suit, with the designers exploring power dressing, and the power suit, as a tool for female empowerment.

What happened with Barbour ?
Dear Barbour Anon,
My favorite kind of Anon, even if I know the question has recently been asked again and not in this corner. Never mind, I think it's time to talk about it, too.
I bought my first Barbour (entry-level, so olive) Bedale wax jacket 25 years ago, from their (long gone, now) shop on Boulevard Raspail, in Paris. It was a mandatory clothing item to own if you wanted to properly mingle with the law school crowd (it still is) and it ended up being one of my most prized possessions, possibly a part of me. I still have it somewhere, back home. Two more followed, along with a fetishist array of shirts, scarves, beanies and even one of those sturdy crossbody bags you can fit half a house in. So you can imagine my absolute thrill when I found out, very very late, that S had had a rather substantial collaboration with them, from 2016 and until 2019.
I am very bad with timelines, as you probably know and possibly even cackle about, but still: S was appointed as the company's first ever Global Brand Ambassador on July 16, 2016. His mission statement was very precisely defined by the brand and for some reason we'll analyze a bit later, this is important:
Tumblr media
(Source, heh: https://www.astonbourne.co.uk/is-barbour-a-luxury-brand-unraveling-the-mystique-of-classic-outerwear/).
A shirt and vest signature collection followed in 2017 and 2018, with the contract being renewed. Advertisement was absolutely gorgeous and designed to shape a very positive image, both for S and the brand. Last autumn's SS Gin promo retained some of that irresistible aesthetic DNA and I discussed it at length.
See for yourself, Anon. The fandom endlessly discussed the first long clip (with the chocolate labrador), but I have no idea if these two have been seen, let alone debated. If they did, let that be my nostalgic mistake.
Spring/Summer 2018:
youtube
Fall 2018:
youtube
And then disaster stroke, with S's trip to Ha-wa-wee 1.0, in the spring of 2019. A short reel, featuring a rather agglomerated boat trip, was posted on socials. Unfortunately for S, it also featured an allegedly horrifying scene involving the 'traditional' bludgeoning to death of a tuna fish. Emotions ensued and as it often happens here, they spun out of control. Many people, including some of the most vocal S haters, tagged Barbour in their diatribes, filled with environmentalist indignation. They suggested this guy (who did not participate to the savagery and I would be even unsure he realized what was going on) was, by no reasonable means, a proper 'embodiment of the brand's identity, values and aspirations' (remember that mission statement?).
Tone deaf as ever in the midst of a serious PR crisis, S put friendship above anything else, and publicly praised the boat's owner, calling him 'the heart and soul of the island', if I remember well. I still would like to think he has no idea what the hell exactly happened. And then, when somebody finally (August 2019) asked Barbour on Insta about their collaboration with S, they got this politely dry, but clear answer:
Tumblr media
"We don't have any plans for a collaboration with SH in the near future" means, in my book and to my understanding, "we are never going to work with this guy again". Truly, some people in here who dare to give morality lessons to others, should be proud of themselves: they did it knowingly and in a very organized way, using multiple sock accounts, to give the impression of a collective retching reflex. To cut the story short, the dread of any ad campaign on this planet.
The effort was genuine. The result of that collaboration was very good. Take, for example, this somewhat heartbreaking customer review by an American guy who has no idea who SRH is and who bought one of those jackets from a Barbour factory warehouse, in 2021, with a hefty rebate (70% off). Clearly something Barbour wanted to get rid of at all costs - what a pity and really what a SHAME on all those hypocrites who will never admit to a public assassination by the book:
youtube
This time, I am absolutely not sorry for the length, Anon. This is something that still makes me boil. Unfairness and cheap nastiness simply disgust me.
(Thank you, sweetheart, for the screenshot, always. You know who you are 😘😘😘).

My first unhinged project involved watching all of Colin Firth's IMDB acting credits, to see how often he got wet.
Figured I'd make a master list of the posts I made. I didn't make a post on everything, so if there's one without a link you can always request to hear my thoughts hahaha
I also made a post about his hair choices, because he does a lot of period pieces and oh boy do I often have Thoughts
And here's a post about how his trend of getting wet changed our perception of Darcy forever

FASHION CREDITS: LADY GAGA BY ETHAN JAMES GREEN FOR VOGUE US OCTOBER ISSUE
I was highly expecting for Lady Gaga to land a Vogue cover and here we are, covering the October issue of the American Vogue. The photoshoot, which is highly inspired by her role as Harley Quinn in "Joker: Folie à Deux", was lensed by Ethan James Green.
Styling: Alex Harrington, makeup: Sarah Tanno-Stewart, hair: Frederic Aspiras, nails: Kim Truong using Glitterbels, tailors: Hailey Desjardins and Egle Paulauskaite, set design: Marla Weinhoff.
Tumblr media
Photographed during her stay in Paris in July this year, the cover photo showcases Gaga in the blue embroidered trompe-l’œil synthetic hair coat made in collaboration with hairstylist Gary Gill from Balenciaga‘s 53rd Fall/Winter 2024 Haute Couture collection!
Tumblr media
An iconic silhouette by now, Gaga rocks a pair of her favorite Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter 2016 Kiki buckled black leather platform boots!
Tumblr media
The mixture of couture, high-end designers and emerging talent is immense in this editorial as Gaga wears the grunge-inspired Hodakova Fall/Winter 2024 argyle double knit sweater in this hauntingly beautiful shot. The sweater is an old Wolsey piece which was upcycled.
Tumblr media
Hyperventilating is an UNDERSTATEMENT. I fell in love the moment John Galliano sent out his girls down the dramatic runway and ever since I was hoping to catch Gaga in one of the designs. Never would‘ve thought she‘d even get a whole custom look!
Gaga poses in custom Maison Margiela Spring/Summer 2024 Artisanal Haute Couture.
White cotton caisetted cape cut with the memory of an ulster coat, worn over a patinaed knitted silk bodysuit matching Gaga’s skin tone underpinned by a corset covered in jersey and a silicone hip prothèse.
A taped reverse swatching hat in white foam and caisetted cotton, patinaed knitted silk stockings and gloves, and custom Christian Louboutin for Margiela white patent leather criss-cross platform pumps with torn stocking overlay.
Tumblr media
One thing you should know about Gaga is that she loves to layer multiple runway pieces to merge a whole new look.
From Dior‘s Resort 2025 collection, a love letter to Scotland, she wore a knitted argyle sweater with cut-outs, a tartan wool maxi dress which she layered underneath a mesh and metallic lace dress, and some argyle socks.
Tumblr media
The Hodakova sweater makes a return, this time accessorized with an antique hand-painted plaque, ruby and diamond in 18kt gold brooch, and a smoky quartz and pearl in 18k gold brooch, both from Tony Duquette!
Tumblr media
A shoe that changed herstory. Vivienne Westwood‘s infamous Fall/Winter 1993 Super Elevated Gillie platform shoes make a return, acquired from Pechuga Vintage. You might remember Gaga wearing a boot version of these for her 2010 Elle spread!
Tumblr media
A firework of excitement ransacked my body when I first found out that Alessandro Michele would depart from Gucci to head over to Valentino as the new creative director.
LG is, to my knowledge, the first celebrity to rock a piece from the Resort 2025 "Avant Les Debuts" (Before the Beginning) collection – a pale-yellow chiffon mini dress with high collar, tiered ruffle puff sleeves and floral micro-element embroidery all over!
Paired with custom Maison Margiela distressed stockings and custom Christian Louboutin platform heels.
Tumblr media
Gaga is working it in a bi-colored statuesque coat seen on Yohji Yamamoto‘s Fall/Winter 2024 "A Seamless Parable on Cubism" runway.
Rather than canvas and paint, Yamamoto’s medium is fabric and more than ever, it felt like he let his instinctual side take the wheel. Case in point: He said he couldn’t talk about how he’d arrived at these silhouettes. "During fittings, I can change, I can touch", he said with finality.
The look was crowned with a custom Vivienne Bow hat made of voluminous moiré fabric by emerging designer Andrew James!
Tumblr media
One of the "Antwerp Six" designers, Dries Van Noten bid farewell earlier this Summer and decided to leave the fashion scene with a bang by celebrating his legacy at his final Spring/Summer 2025 collection where this epic embroidered cashmere coat is from.
Tumblr media
Both her Tah ornamental black double-faced wooly cashmere hat with engraved metal accents ($2,700)...
Tumblr media
...and Duras double-breasted boxy oversized coat rendered in bonded viscose with peaked lapel ($6,750) are from The Row's Resort 2025 lookbook.
Tumblr media
Gaga is the first ever person to wear this vintage Givenchy by Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 1999 "Execution of Lady Jane Grey" Haute Couture chinoiserie embroidered silk balloon sleeve coat and bespoke black dress, both sourced from LILY et Cie.
In 1999, McQueen was going through, in his own words, "an emotional turmoil" both professionally and personally. But instead of relieving himself, he ventured into his own despair to understand his inner demons more poignantly. This painful journey led Lee to Paul Delaroche’s tragic but beautiful 1833 painting, "The Execution of Lady Jane Grey".
Like a painter to a blank canvas, McQueen filled an empty room with extravagant offerings: romantic silk ensembles with floral embroidery, 16th-century fur-trimmed tunics, luxurious velvet coats, as well as the designer’s signature leather suits, cowl-neck dresses, and even a heightened-for-couture bouffant piece that paid homage to his plaid.
Dialing in on his inspiration, McQueen presented his clothes not on models but on fiber-glass-headed mannequins that emerged from trap doors in batches, as if the audience were in an art gallery rather than a fashion show.
Tumblr media
It's almost unrecognizable but Gaga is draping this Chanel Fall/Winter 2024 Haute Couture black silk taffeta opera coat around her torso. This piece, which served as the show's opening number, features a ruffled neck, bejeweled buttons and a voluminous cut.

Hi Brian, I know you remember everything and you can find any posts known to Tumblr. I clearly remember that SH signed a 2 year contract with Barbour. Do you remember? And if so, can you find any posts supporting the 2 year contract? All the drama surrounding his work with Barbour is OTT. Thanks!
Thanks for the message Anon. 🗓️ July 2016… seems like only seven-and-a-half years ago…
Yes, I remember our excitement about Sam’s new gig with Barbour. The man wore those clothes so well. And who could forget Connie the wee dog?

One would think a two-year deal that began in July 2016 would be finished by end-of-summer 2018… but wait… there was more. For example:
Tumblr media
Photo: Barbour (published in British GQ Digital 1 March 2019)
Tumblr media
Photo: Barbour (published in Town & Country 18 March 2019)
Why did we see Barbour Sam beyond the two years? Contracts get extended. Informal handshake after the formal two-year deal expired? Photos published later, but shot earlier? Two years applied to his actual work, not publication of the work? 🤷🏻‍♂️
Whatever the reason for the extension, your memory serves you well, Anon. It was a two-year deal.
Barbour introduced Sam’s Spring Summer 2019 Signature Collection on 15 March.
Remember… quintessentially Barbour with a distinct influence from the Scottish countryside, this season’s Sam Heughan Signature collaboration mixes a smart aesthetic with the actor’s Scottish roots, and introduces womenswear into the collection. — Barbour

i just think it’s so poetic how over the course of the whole lover set we go from miss americana and the heartbreak prince’s autumn 2016 vibes to the cruelty of the several summers after to the lover house’s rooms coming together as taylor sings about what it’d be like if she was the man, to another song from a place of confidence in you need to calm down, to the peaceful serenade of lover, a song about building “our place” and its a place with a family crest, and then when things go dark and taylor sings about being the archer, arrows of light collect at this point of light on the diamond in the middle of the runway and taylor walks into it and all fades, the lover house, having served its purpose, all of its furniture and bedding darkly drip away in a shower of sparks and from within that, the orange room appears. it’s spring 2021, fearless tv release, and baby tay pops out onto the stage, head first!, fearless.

Sylvia Baumgarten (aka Sylvia Halliday, Louisa Rawlings and Ena Halliday), 1933-2024
Tumblr media
My friend Sylvia Baumgarten died on the morning of February 1rst. Our friendship began in the 1990s, when I wrote her a fan letter about one of her early Harlequin historicals, Wicked Stranger, and she wrote back a long type-written letter about her influences and research and sent me a copy of Stranger in My Arms as well. I interviewed her for my old blog in 2011-- sadly, that interview has been lost. But we also met in 2016 for dinner, and she sent me her collection of books about the French Revolution. She was a great talent, as well as witty, opinionated and immensely generous. I will miss her very much.
She graduated from Brown University in 1955, and from 1982 to 2015 wrote for a variety of publishers, including Pocket Books, Kensington Publishing Corp., Harlequin, and Diversion Books. She was also a President of the Romance Writers of America/ New York City Chapter, and her books were nominated for multiple awards. Forever Wild was a finalist for the RWA/Golden Medallion award, Best Historical Romance (1986). Stolen Spring (which I reviewed for Dear Author) received a Romantic Times nomination as Best French Historical (1988), while Promise of Summer [archive.org link] received the Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award as the Best Historical Romance set in France (1989). Wicked Stranger had also been nominated for a Rita Award by the Romance Writers of America.
Baumgarten's papers are available in the Manuscripts Division of Brown University, and include press kits, book reviews, news clippings, public relations material (including photographs), interviews, correspondence about her books, and the manuscripts of Stolen Spring and Dreams So Fleeting.
She also blogged extensively about her observations and experiences selling wedding dresses at Macy's in New York.

TAKAHIRO MIYASHITA
Takahiro Miyashita
TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloist, Designer
THE RECENTLY MY STYLE
“The collection is linked to my own style.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloist. 2016 SPRING/SUMMER COLLECTION "miXture,"
This season's collection has a British feel with a crossed design of the belt around the neck, Velcro at the waist, zippers, stripes and check patterns, etc.
"I wear and make coveralls quite often. The timing of making them differs from the time I actually wear them, so I don't style them exactly like the look, and they reflect my current mood, but these four pieces are close to my current style."
Not making rules has become my rule
It has been 20 years since Takahiro Miyashita took on the title of designer. His single-minded, stoic approach to fashion and his solitary existence have not changed since he first started making clothes. This season's theme for Takahiro Miyashita the Soloist is a mixture of British, motorcycle, sports, outdoor and military elements, created with Miyashita's own interpretation. This collection, which exudes the sound of Britpop, is different from any of the themes he has released so far, and shows a new side of Soloist. There is no consistency in the seasonal theme. This is in line with Miyashita's way of thinking and style.
--Please tell us what kind of styling you are in the mood for this season.
"Basically, I create my collections with what I would wear in mind, so my clothes are linked to the theme of the season. This season I'm incorporating British elements, so even with a jacket like this I zip it all the way up. British clothing makes me feel like I'm standing up straight, and I think I'm in the mood for sharp clothing and a way of wearing it."
--Is there a style or item that you would call your standard?
"I think the core of my collection is vintage clothing and American items, which I've always loved, but the things I wear change with each season, so I don't have any particular favorites. If I had to say, I'd say that I've released overalls this season, and that I've been wearing them for a while.
It's an item I can wear all year round. I used to like wearing it when I was at Nepenthes, so people often say that I look like I'm wearing overalls. But honestly, I don't have a style or item that I can say is my staple. That's because my way of thinking changes between yesterday and today."
--Does that mindset also apply to your creations and clothing?
"It's the same. I don't really have any rules that say things have to be a certain way. Because I think that continuing to change is what growth is all about. My rule is not to make rules. So the theme of the collection changes completely from time to time. I think it's important to keep making and wearing the same clothes over and over, but that doesn't fit into my way of doing things. I've never thought about clothes that you can wear for 10 years or that you can wear for a lifetime. I can't imagine anything like that. To be honest, I haven't found my own style yet. I'm still studying fashion, and I think the reason I can continue doing this job is because I haven't found the answer at all. For example, Primal Scream makes albums with a different musical style every time. They are constantly changing and evolving, but I think it's amazing that no matter what period you listen to their songs from, you can tell they're Primal, and I can really sympathize with that feeling. So I don't want to say, "This is my style, so I'll just keep doing it the way I am." Right. I feel like I'm just stuck there.
Because it makes me feel sick."
--What do you think about the collections you have released so far? "I have never been satisfied with anything. I can't find the next answer unless I keep denying myself, and after making clothes, I first deny them once and kill myself. For example, in an interview, when I'm asked, "What do you like about this season?" I can't answer at all. So maybe it would be better to be asked, "What don't you like about it?" Then there are many things I can say, like, "I should have fixed this here like this." I'm glad I've never been able to make a finished product until now.

Dig Out Your Soul
[Dig Out Your Soul/2008]
"This is an album I listened to over and over when I was creating this season's collection. The song "I'm Outta Time" is particularly great, and I listened to it about 40 times in one day. I had no idea such a great song existed. It shows Liam's overwhelming talent."
Tumblr media
ROOTS
"I don't have any specific roots that I can say are specific. There are too many things I like."
That's why I don't look back and think, "This was good at the time." The new thing has to be the best, and the next thing I release has to surpass it, that's the idea I have when I make clothes."
--What do you think is important when creating a collection?
"I think in my mind, I always want to have musical instruments with me. I always have nothing else, so it's like I'm completely naked. Everyone says that making clothes isn't about winning or losing, but I definitely think it is. You have to make them in order to win. I'm jealous of people with great talent, not just designers but artists and musicians as well, and I don't want to lose to them. And ultimately, I want to make clothes using all the materials that exist in the world."
--Is there someone or something that you would call your roots that shaped who you are today?
"I don't have any specific roots that I can say are specific. There are so many things I like that it's difficult to pick just one example. The things I like have always remained the same. People that are always on my mind are John Lennon, George Harrison, Brian Jones, Ian Curtis, David Bowie, Kurt Cobain... If you ask me who I admire the most, I can't say for sure. I guess I would say that I wanted to be a Westerner with blue or green eyes. I've had that kind of admiration since I was young, and it's very clear. Even now, if I could, I would like to be that person. I often listen to the songs of those people that I mentioned earlier.
Rather than listening to music from that era, if I realize that I haven't listened to that music recently, I feel like listening to it. I take those drawers in and out depending on my mood at the time."
---When you created this spring/summer collection
What were you listening to?
"I listened to Oasis a lot, especially the songs written by Liam. I have the first half of Oasis' albums, but I stopped listening halfway through and had never listened to their later releases. But when I listened to them again, I found them to be really good, and personally I think their last album, Dig Out Your Soul, is the best. It's a really good album."
--What kind of songs have you been listening to lately?
"If I were to talk about it now, it would be David Bowe.
It's a good idea. I'm releasing a David Bowie T-shirt next fall/winter season, which I think clearly expresses my current mood. When I was in Nepenthes, I imitated David Bowie's jacket, dyed my hair two-tone and had the exact same hairstyle. I am influenced by him in that way, but I don't want to continue with it forever, I want to forget about it. I don't want my thoughts to be fixed. But I haven't completely forgotten about it, and I don't hate it. I'm always ready to make up, and I can open that drawer at any time.
--So would you say that your base is music?
"I'm influenced not only by music but also by movies.
Once you do that, no amount of time will be enough.
I love it so much and I think it's really wonderful. But if you ask me which comes first to me, it's not music or movies. It's fashion. Movies and music are the tools I need to think about fashion. I don't make clothes with music in mind, but surprisingly, deep down I'm already thinking about making clothes. I listen to music, watch movies, and watch people because I want to make clothes. That's what it is. Those things are clearly reflected in the details of the clothes.

TAKAHIRO MIYASHITA MY ROOTS
In order to further pursue his own creativity, Miyashita has listened to a huge amount of music and watched a huge amount of movies. We spoke to him about some of the roots that shaped him.
"I love everything Sean Penn does. It's really hard to narrow it down to just one, but I think Lonely Blood is great, including all the background to it. For example, Madonna sang the ending theme. I think all of that behind-the-scenes stuff is great. And also The Indian Runner, his first film as a director, is great. From the subject matter to the title, everything is perfect. I thought it was a perfect movie.
The Indian Runner [1991
Sean Penn's first directorial work, starring Viggo Mortensen, tells the story of a Vietnam War veteran who turns to violence due to the darkness in his heart that has nowhere to go, and the conflict faced by his brother, a patrol officer, who tries to save him.
At Close Range [Lonely Blood/1987]
The film is based on an incident that occurred in rural Pennsylvania and depicts the protagonist's feelings through his complicated relationships with his father and friends, starring Sean Penn. The theme song is Live to Tell by Madonna, who was married to Sean (later in a relationship).
DAVID BOWIE
[David Bowie]
Low [Low/1977
Hunky Dory [Hunky Dory/1971
"Of course the music influenced me, but the visuals were also a big influence. All of their albums are important to me, but I especially like Hunky Dory. In terms of visuals, I'd say Low. The fashion and hairstyles at the time were just so cool."
THE BEATLES
[The Beatles]
Rubber Soul [Rubber Soul/1865]
"After Revolver, the Beatles' sound evolved dramatically. My favorite is Rubber Soul."
GEORGE HARRISON
All Things Must Pass [All Things Must Pass/1970]
"This solo album is George Harrison's masterpiece, and I think it's a masterpiece that fully demonstrates his talent."

End of Year Review 2023
Tumblr media
It is currently Christmas Eve-Eve at the time of this writing, which can mean only one thing; The End of Year Review for 2023. These past three years held a lot of significant changes and growth for me, most of which I likely wouldn't have experienced had I remained in that horrible part of the mid-west. Despite the mass 'rona pandemic and the constant mental health battles/challenges, 2020-2022 were very good to me and I consider them the best years of my life.
2023 is a welcoming addition to that train.
The first major reason were the goals I set at the end of 2022, all of which were achieved without fail (to a point);
I continued making animated shorts, but only produced 2. However, this was a good glow up year for The Boris Blobinski Show! I got to manage a smaller production team, consisting of my talented friends, and together we banged out a beautifully animated episode!
I got my contact lenses! However I haven't really worn them since I left the optometrist's office. I still intend on using these for when I go swimming or to the spa, but I can see why some people aren't crazy about this option.
I finally got my hair dyed, and it wound up being a vibrant cherry red. Had it done back in March, and most of my hair is still pretty red despite the roots coming in.
Been losing a small chunk of weight still, which means I was able to convert to smaller shirt and pants sizes.
I did a lot more exploring this year! I finally secured my Californian rite of passage by visiting In-N-Out burger, discovered a couple awesome local bakeries, and went to the movies for the first time in years. First major achievement was going to Universal for the first time ever and visiting Nintendo Land! The second biggest crowning achievement was the daytrip to The Ventura Harbor in April, where I got to board a small wildlife sea cruise and witness dolphins, whales, sea lions and seals.
I got back to working on comics again, and produced two short stories for a larger collective that is still in production. Second major reason were the events that weren't planned out of the gate, but were absolutely welcomed;
I saved enough money to get a new desktop PC built. My friend from Colorado flew down and spent the week with me, partially to help get the PC built to proper standards and to also spend some quality time together in person.
I started freeway driving practice mid-year; taking smaller steps to feel more comfortable driving in the faster/wider lanes without having my PTSD invoked. I have a long way to go, but even driving within a 5 mile radius is still worth celebrating, especially since I've actively avoided freeway driving for most of my life.
My best friend is finally coming to visit me at the end of December! I have not seen them in person since 2016, and it will be their first time visiting my apartment space as well.
As far as plans for 2024 go, here's what I have on the docket;
I will be going to an actual jury duty selection at the end of January for the first time. (Exciting, I know!) I'm curious to see what the process is like, but I hope I can dismiss myself from the proceedings. (Respectfully, of course.)
I plan on hosting another friend visit me around the Spring/Summer.
I will be working on a very ambitious episode of The Boris Blobinski show that will take up most of the first quarter of my year.
I will continue my weight loss regimen as I have started back in 2021. As of this writing I am now down to 186 lbs. This is actually pretty close to my first goal, but I want to continue this trend until I hit between 135-140.
I still want to do more local travel and discover new venues. I'm eyeballing Downtown Ventura and will likely add a few more intended places to my list.
Attend activity based events like Life Drawing and other art related functions. As an artist, it's important I find different means to shake the rust off of my skills, and as a human I need to start making efforts in social connections again.
Continue freeway driving practice to the point where I can actually go beyond 5 miles comfortably.
Continue working on my one shot comics, see if I can at least produce two more stories before building a website/platform to host them all.
Outside of Boris Blobinski, I want to be more active in the animation space again and make a few more originals outside of that project.
Lastly, I want to look into Toon Boom Harmony official Certification. I've worked with the program for over 10 years, both for traditional hand-drawn animation and character rigging, and I would love to have that piece of recognition. Hell, I am not against the idea of applying as an instructor if I can get that far!
Of course I don't think I'll be able to jump into everything as intended. I know 2024 will also be met with some unexpected surprises, but I'll gladly welcome them all the same. And lastly, before we pull the plug on this, I want to thank everyone involved in my life that has made 2023 a fantastic experience. You know who you are.

Homage To The Green Witch
BY CAROLYN TURGEON
Read article here!
PHOTOGRAPHY BY THE WITCHING HOUR PHOTOGRAPHY Follow Joy Marshall on Instagram @thewitchinghourphotography
Photographer Joy Marshall, model (and wingmaker) Tatiana Pimentel, and jeweler artiste Jen Parrish-Hill of Parris Relics collaborated on this shoot to celebrate the green witch in all her guises, filling Parrish-Hill’s kitchen at Frog Hollow—her magical abode in the hills of Massachusetts you might remember from our summer 2016 issue—with dried flowers, baskets, bottles, trinkets, and as many bright green plants as possible. “It was easy to envision what a green witch would do in that space,” Marshall said after. “Jen’s kitchen is naturally a green witch haven!”
Marshall would know, being a bit of a green witch herself. She fills her north-facing house with plants in the winter, and every day they remind her that spring is coming. She has jars and jars of dried herbs she’s collected over the years, as well as pine needles from past Christmas trees and petals from the first pollinators she grew from seed. “They’re memories,” she says, “and when I add them to spells, I’m adding pieces of my past to empower my future.”
How does Marshall define a green witch? A green witch, she says, is “someone who bases their rituals and power off nature.” Their tools are plant-based. They have a deep connection to nature, the forest, and, of course, plants. They often have vibrant flower gardens and abundant veggie gardens. “If you have a green thumb,” she adds, “you may be a green witch!” So what better time to celebrate her than right now? “In the spring, we can plant the seeds to grow,” she says. “We set our intentions into the earth. We take everything we learned about ourselves during the winter and implement new ways of being for the spring.”

Sephora 2024 Spring Sale
The spring Sephora sale is upon us! This one is always fun for me since my birthday tends to fall in this sale, so I get a sale and a birthday present for me. So, this is my own little wishlist I have for Sephora, and what I’d really like to get during this sale.
Tumblr media
my little wishlist:
saie,
dew blush liquid blush in spicy, baby, chilly
sun melt natural cream bronzer in fair bronze
slip tint concealer in 1
glow sculpt cream highlighting blush in pink glow
slip tint tinted moisturizer in 1
glossybounce lip gloss oil in bounce, push, dip
merit,
flush balm cream blush in rouge, stockholm
the minimalist complexion stick in silk
bronze balm bronzer
signature lip satin lipstick in millennial, l’avenue, 1990
signature lip matte lipstick in vermillion, power, maison, classic
day glow dewy highlight in cava
shade slick tinted lip oil in sangria, pink beet, falcon, taupe, bel air
I have really been wanting to try out merit and saie beauty recently; I have absolutely loved their branding and philosophies so it’s only a matter of time before i get some of their products for myself. I am someone who doesn’t really like traveling with powder products since they are more likely to shatter; i’d rather have cream products, where even if they break, i can use them in a different container instead of having powder everywhere. All of these formulas are creams or liquids that are perfect for me to travel with. Plus, all of these products would be what I would reach for when I wanted a little pick me up, not so much full glam full cover makeup. I think the last time I did that was for my high school senior pictures. Because I was being professionally photographed.
I do have a larger beauty wishlist, but these are my want-wants, really, as opposed to what i would like to try and use daily.
makeup
yves saint laurent couture mini clutch eyeshadow palette in 100, 400
rare beauty soft pinch luminous powder blush in happy

skincare
alpyn beauty super peptide & ghostberry moisturizer
farmacy lip smoothie lip balm
saint jane beauty luxury sun ritual sunscreen
mara sea silk lip balm
mara algae + moringa sea sculpt body oil
chia + moringa algae enzyme cleansing oil
mara seadream crème moisturizer
soft services speed soak gel body moisturizer
soft services buffing bar exfoliating body bar
soft services carea cream moisturizing + softening body lotion
merit great skin instant glow serum
oui the people hydrating body oil in orange blossom
summer fridays rich cushion cream moisturizer
Most of my skincare wants are just more rich moisturizers. I tend to have dry skin, unless it’s peak summer when it feels like I’m in a rice cooker, since that is super humid.
No matter how much I love beauty products, I do not wish to have the 2016 makeup collections, where there is so much that it is useless. If I ever get there in my career, I fully intend to give that surplus to someone who could use the bulk of it, like a makeup artist. I don’t know if I’ll ever get there, but I know I don’t want 80 foundations just rolling around in a drawer. That goes for skincare too; I do not want the skincare tiktoker collection that will expire in 6 months. I think, in a small thought, the best way to actually review that much product without wasting it would be to keep notes on the different products and how they worked, and how they compare to other products as a frame of reference, then use the product. I know for me that if I really need to use a skincare product before it goes bad, I’ll use it on my body. But that also would take more effort than a lot of people want to put into something, and I’m aware of that.
That is my little Sephora round up here for this spring and summer, and if you’d like, you can share with me what you’re looking at for this sale, or what you’re not looking at. Knowing me, I’ll end up just getting two products from this sale.
