33-year-old Ugandan marathon athlete Rebecca Cheptegei, who competed in this summer's Paris Olympic Games, has been killed by her ex-boyfriend. He doused her in petrol, set her on fire and burned her alive when she came back from church with her two daughters.
Gender-based violence is a major concern in Kenya, where Cheptegei lived and worked. In 2022, at least 34% of women in Kenya said they had experienced physical violence, according to a national survey.
Her death comes after the killings of fellow East African athletes Agnes Tirop in 2021 and Damaris Mutua in 2022, with their partners identified as the main suspects in both cases by the authorities.
Our thoughts are with her family, who are left without their loving relative and the family's main breadwinner.

The reason that Russia is banned but israel is given protection is very simple: one is killing white people and one is killing brown people. The International Olympics Committee is a white supremacist organization, and so only considers the former worth a reaction.

Sport is not beyond politics
So far, Russian athletes have enjoyed their "neutrality" and have been able to achieve their goals.

Sutton did not draw a target during the Broncos' 33-10 win over the Saints on Thursday night.
The Broncos' No. 1 wideout was shockingly uninvolved in a game during which his team enjoyed a solid amount of offensive success, although Sutton did draw a target late in the first quarter that didn't end up in the box score due to the Saints' defensive holding penalty on the play.
Given he'd drawn an impressive 47 targets from Bo Nix over the first six games, Thursday can safely be chalked up as an outlier for Sutton, who'll be well-positioned for a bounce-back performance during a Week 8 home matchup against the Panthers on Sunday, Oct. 27.
I’m pretty sure he F’d us all!
