Finally happy with how to draw my Splat Bio AU's "Shrimp" and "Crabs". It only took four years and staring intently at unboxing videos of a very expensive articulated coconut crab figure to figure out what the fuck is going on with their faces

Since it's been a while the Splat Bio AU's main goal is to consolidate the number of different lineages evolving into sapient land people. The biggest group of truly terrestrial crustaceans in the Mollusk Era are descended from the humble coconut crab, Birgus latrans. There are two sapient species from this lineage, colloquially referred to as Shrimp and Crabs. Which is confusing, because neither of them are either of those things but that is a common theme of the Splat Bio AU. It's fine.

They grow pretty slowly compared to a lot of the other people because molting over and over again to big size takes a while. They probably have a very different way of conceptualizing age and life stages accordingly but I'd have to think about it later.

Since Cybertron was in a decaying state at the time of Optimus and Megatron's hatching and their egg couldn't develop properly, the brothers were born as small protoforms that couldn't feed on their own or even see at the begining unlike fully formed hatchlings that are similar to a toddler.

This means that Sentinel, instead of having two toddlers that were easier to take care of, was now stuck with the equivalent of two newborn kittens.

While Megatron is the strongest hatchling, Optimus takes the crown when it comes to being the more vocal.

Primus, give him patience.

(The evil/brainwashed) Callie here functions a bit differently… as I also use her to explore what exactly mud mouths are… and the octarian’s relationship with their ally, Salmonids…

Due to constrained relations between them and the other main dominating species— (salmonid/octarian vs inklings)— most Inklings, namely younger generations, are more desperate to fix and mend the relationship.

(There is plenty more to this! But I don’t want to make this come across as far more convoluted than it needs to be, so here have this for now:📒)

Octavio contacted Callie directly, albeit in secret, telling her that he has plans that would be a step forward in ending the tension between the Inklings and Octarian-Salmonid groups. What he had introduced was a new type of “ink” that would make their species “salmonid friendly”, and he wanted Callie to be the one to be the first public appearance with this new Ink in hopes to reach a wider audience…

Most of that isn’t true— but to Callie— who is a direct descendant of a war leader, was raised as an agent, and lives in a fairly dangerous city zone that floods, that sounded like a better step towards a better life, and she went for it.

This ink is known as MUD— and this “ink” isn’t technically ink at all, as mentioned in a previous post, most inks are a synthetic toxic poison, designed for warfare, but this ink on the contrary, wasn't designed by Inkfish, it was designed by Salmonids.

MUD is a slimy corrosive ink designed to rival Inkfish’s ink, namely in salmon runs and Ink Wasted territories, one that blends into the grounds and spreads out quickly and efficiently much like Inkfish ink, but one that corrodes Inklings by absorbing into them, and leaves salmonids completely safe from any burning effects.

The Octarian were the ones tasked with creating this new bio-weapon, as an added benefit being it would not affect their species, (they would be safe from it regardless, considering Salmon-Runs are an Inkling exclusive event, and Octolings were surprised when they learned about them.)

They tried different methods of testing it, and ultimately, the project failed— Mud uses both Salmonid and Inkling DNA in its creation, and when Mud was being developed, it melted Salmonids like Ink typically does due to its hyper-corrosive nature, but because it carried Inkling + Salmonid DNA, the salmonid’s skin would attempt to mimic the properties of inklings and constantly try to reconstruct itself into the “swim” form, which made Salmonids a walking (or rather, squirming) sludge, these monsters became known as MUDMOUTHS, and are not truly considered alive, since they run exclusively on the Running Instinct that exists in Salmonid DNA.

And in turn, when the ink was absorbed into Inklings— the previously noted “running instinct” would have an almost Kraken-Esque affect on inklings before corroding and splatting them.

The running instinct would work as intended, everything they eat immediately converts to growth in preparation for an arduous journey, they’re extremely aggressive, and they have a desire to return to the salmonid birthplace.

Mud would splat inklings upon prolonged contact, but Inklings who were test subjects for mud were slowly injected with Mud over a course of time. These subjects were disoriented and had a sort of “positive” aggressive attitude that didn’t falter even in the face of family or friends.

They are easy to persuade and it’s unclear if this is due to the pain of getting the ink-content in their bodies replaced by this synthetic fake-ink, or if the running instinct muddles their thoughts. It’s probably a healthy mix of both.

Dj Octavio, kept Callie by his side, since in her current state her mind would be too fogged up to dispute or make sense of what he’s making her do.

He planned on using Callie to stir up trouble in Inkopolis solely for the sake of rising tension. Octavio is constantly searching for reasons to make Inkling’s an enemy in the eyes of everyone who sees them, and painting Callie— a well known public figure; a known descendant of Captain Cuttlefish— as vicious would do wonders for allowing most people to view the Octarian as a force that would more desirably be backed up, it would reinforce their armies. And make them overall stronger if people felt they had reason to target Inklings.

He didn’t get this far due to Agent Four’s interference.

But, he got to accomplish many theft missions using Callie— which included robbing Inkopolis of some of the Zapfish Generators, which are giant machines that are powered thanks to the Zapfish, and thanks to the Zap-Ink— ⤵️

(Above image is from here) — Octavio was able to use said generators to restore power to many of the war-affected bio-domes that have been obsolete for decades, WITHOUT the need for a Zapfish.

But his reasoning can still be dumbed down to a petty move on Octavio’s part— who despite having a safer ground in the domes due to a good trade relationship with Salmonids and a vast space away from water— he still feels bitter about losing the remaining lands. And because of this the Octarian are plenty more war driven, and they are more likely to easily fall to the fervor of these schemes and battles.

"So, you mean to tell me that there are bodies of androids piled up all in there fucking bitten and ripped apart?"

Officer Chris nodded his head and thinned his lips for a moment before informing Hank further about the situation. "Yes, it's nothing we've ever seen before. Sure we've seen androids get beaten up and damaged, but this shit is real."

Both Connor and Hank looked at each other from the blatant shock in Officer Chris' voice. Androids that were chewed up like a dog toy? It sounded impossible given their plastic and metallic autonomy but Chris' face shows no hint of a lie.

Connor nodded his head at the reassurance of imagery and spoke. "It's alright to take a moment, Officer. The lieutenant-" He was shortly interrupted by an elbow to the side. Connor narrowed his eyes for a moment before correcting himself. "Sorry, Hank and I will investigate for further evidence. You have done your part well. I advise for you to return back home now for some rest."

Chris nodded his head at the advice given to him and tipped his hat to the android and old man. "Stay safe, man."

After he left, Connor and Hank walked over to the entrance of the building where the crime took place. Supposedly, it was a safe haven for androids who didn't have a home to live in. An abandoned daycare center repurposed into a home for deviants who had no where else to go.

With their rights still being progressed, not many deviants had a home to live in, most common ones being locations such as this or the new Jericho HQ.

Connor and Hank stepped in and went down the direction of where other members were still gathering pictures of. Multiple conversations taking place and this event seemed to shaken everyone up.

Hank darts his eyes over to Connor, a thin coat of concern in his voice. "You sure you're gonna be alright? I know we've done this shit a million times by now but Chris looks...disturbed. Haven't seen him like that since the time he was spared by Markus."

Connor's LED turned yellow for a moment to process the concern from his work partner.

"I understand that you're uncomfortable with me being allowed to see fellow androids in such a state but I was never installed with blissful innocence. I assure you, I will be fine."

Hank's eyes lingered at Connor for a moment, his eyebrows scrunched slightly together before sighing and shrugging his shoulders.

As the two approached the caution tape, Connor immediately spotted the dried up thirium on the floor that indicated someone(more accurately, something) running to the busted up glass door and weirdly smudged blue prints on the wall as well.

Connor cataloged everything naked to the human eye. "There appears to be several traced of dried up thirium remaining officers have missed."

Hank only hummed in acknowledgment before the duo finally made it to the scene.

"Jesus fucking Chirst. Chris wasn't lying."

Hank knew he wasn't but to actually see what occurred was appalling.

In the room, there were many torn body parts flung everywhere from different models. A scratched up right leg on the edge of a table, an open torso with the mechanical wiring and artificial organs ripped apart against a bookshelf, and many other bio components to be found all over.

A sudden crack was heard from the ceiling. Within a split second, it had collapsed opened and a PL600's body lay splat on the ground. It was just as Chris described, bite marks taken off from random sections, the most horrific being where half of its head is gone, exposing the inside panels and circuitry, face full of dread.

Everyone in the room stared at the body, various emotions of disgust and grim filling up.

Through their eyes, they only saw the broken up androids.

Through Connor's eyes, he saw everything.

He saw all traces of thirium to be seen at his current stance. On the walls where hands were trying to resist, huddled footsteps that tried going for the door, and the pools of blue blood covering almost the entire floor, the old one and new one that's currently bleeding out of the PL600.

Connor has seen tortured skin, blood from open wounds, and even felt death before, but to be a witness of something entirely new was revolting.

This wasn't caused by a gun, a knife, or even fucking red ice.

These were bitten off.

These were mutilated.

Bashed.

Teared.

Eaten.

And from Connor's scans, absolutely no trace of anything from a human.

it was finally over. the day you had feared would eventually come. thoma was a sweet boy, holding a place near and dear to your heart as you both grew up together. with two confused teenagers came the need to have a certain type of closeness that’s reserved for lovers.

deep in your heart you knew it was wrong, you knew it hurt him. he loved you for awhile, and you loved him too. but you fell for him once he was in the arms of another girl. a girl that was everything you were not. you couldn’t hate her for it, she was just kind to him. and he had found it in him to move on from you.

it didn’t help the ache in your heart as you sat alone on the edge of your porch. a melting bright blue popsicle in your hand, the other half melting on the wrapper beside you. six years of pain, six years of memories, gone. the blonde haired boy slowly disappeared from your life, texts and calls going unread. his profiles on social media now matching ayaka’s, his bio’s filled with cheese love lines. it made you feel sick.

you remembered the last time you spoke to him, the tears in your eyes and the indifference in his voice. it was as if he was talking to someone he hated, not a friend of six years.

“what do you want me to tell you, (y/n)? sorry, we can still have sex and live together?”

“you’re such a fucking asshole, thoma.”

fat tears rolled down your cheek, the melting blue ice finally splatting on the floor.

“why can’t you be calm about this? just because i’m with ayaka doesn’t mean we don’t have to be friends.”

“it hurts too much to see you replace me and disappear. i don’t want you to only come to me when she’s not satisfying you.”

“you didn’t hate it, (y/n). don’t lie.”

your phone still sat in your pocket, his profiles all blocked and restricted from being able to view anything about you.

“just let me go, thoma. we both have other things to hold onto, different things that make us happy. i won’t do this with you anymore.”

“we’ve been friends for years (y/n). i’m not gonna throw away a quick fuck just because you wanna be dramatic.”

that sweet smile you once looked forward to seeing was nowhere in sight that night. the glare and scoff on his pretty features were unrecognizable. this is what he thought of you after years of friendship. after years of consoling each other and being there for one another.

“i’m done, thoma. taroumaru deserves better than what you’re doing now.”

GUESS WHO'S BACK FOR ART FIGHT?!

I'm so pumped for my second year, though I probably won't be able to do as many attacks with my three jobs (why do I do this, I don't know).

I will prioritize attacks and revenges, but I may do friendly fires if I feel like it :D

Hi I'm spitting out biology (and a liiiiitle bit cultural) musings more of them. These guys are actually terrestrial holothurians (sea cucumbers). I'm putting my stonks into echinodermata we have to believe in their Powers to evolve new and exciting shapes.

The people who keep symbiotic fish in their tentacles call themselves Anemones, while the ones that reject the fish as parasites and wear shell-like hats over most of their tentacles call themselves Nautilus. In the modern day there is an increasing population of those who consider themselves neither of these things but due to the history of these two cultures there isn't a widely accepted colloquial name for the species as a whole.

They're not cnidarians so they don't possess stinging cells, but they produce a thick venomous mucous from their tentacles that causes paralysis and inflammation on contact for various other animals. They evolved as social ambush predators that would jump on their prey and slather this mucous over them to subdue them. Their ideal diet is like 60% meat and 30% fruits, with bonus whatever the fuck else they feel like eating as a treat.

The venomous mucous may have been what initially started the Nautiluses' practice of covering most of their tentacles, along with protection from the sun and aerial predators. They have a long history as a multi-species people, and keeping contact venom just exposed around your loved ones without resistance to it is just plain dangerous. These days it's more of a visual identification and religious thing though.

These guys don't have real eyes, but are covered in light sensing cells all across their skin. They have shit visual acuity and can't see very far, but they're usually aware of the general silhouette of large objects a few feet around them, and are sensitive to movement. The Anemones, at least, formed a symbiotic relationship with a species of amphibious fish partially due to them being able to see farther and with higher acuity and warn them of things they might not have picked up on by themselves.

There's a lot of in-universe debate over the exact intelligence of the clownfish, but the average seems to be kind of parrot-like, with occasional exceptionally intelligent, probably sapient individuals. They're hard to study, because they're usually extremely shy towards other people, plus Anemones tend to develop a very strong bond with their clowns that skews their perception of what their own fish is capable of. In the modern day the relationship between Anemones and their fish is largely religious rather than out of any real practical necessity; the Anemone religious hegemony considers these fish as one half of a full person, and places an extreme importance on maintaining this relationship. This is usually fine and what ever, but can place Anemones and clownfish alike into difficult situations when the relationship is unwanted or cannot be maintained properly for whatever reason. It's also the reason Anemones and Nautilus have historically considered themselves separate, often rival species; the presence of the clowns or lackthereof have been considered mutually repulsive and a sign of something being deeply Wrong about the other group.

Most terrestrial holothurians are small, trundling insectivores, but there is one large species these guys share a close evolutionary relationship with. The dropbear are solitary, arboreal ambush predators that used to share much of their range with Anemones, but are currently critically endangered in the wild. Anemones, with their very low visual acuity and poor sense of smell, have a very hard time distinguishing dropbears from members of their own species. It's thought the need to tell friend apart from foe is what drove them to develop complex vocal capabilities.

Side note the Example Anemone here is wearing an extremely hastily designed example of traditional Anemone accessories; they didn't have a nudity taboo and actually prefer to keep most of their skin uncovered so they can see, but they enjoyed wearing accessories with tactile or audible elements built into it. Beads were often placed so they'd click together when moving, and combined with knots in the cords were often arranged according to their traditional system of cord "writing" so that people could read each other's clothing.

These guys support themselves on land through an endoskeleton made up of a network of mesodermal ossicles and catch connective tissue. When threatened, they can dramatically loosen their skin and let a predator or perhaps a guy easily tear off whatever part of their body they've grabbed, allowing for an easy getaway with relatively easy wounds to regenerate. This easily gooped skeletal structure does make them very prone to fatigue though. It was fine, because they're ambush predators. They were just supposed to be sitting there most of the day. Please.

Rejigged a few designs for some of my older Splat characters- Brassic (top left), Warp (top right), and Deca (bottom left)- as the older ones either weren't doing it for me anymore or were actively difficult to draw satisfactorily. I am much, much happier with these, even though the most radical change really was Brassic's (completely redesigned his hairdo). Along with Skint, these constitute the oldest characters I created for my Splatoon work, so it felt right to give them a little love for a sec.

Speaking of, super brief bios;

Brassic: Cis boy, bisexual. A talented painter in multiple proficiencies, but prefers to work in abstract ones. Comes from an affluent family, but ran from home as a teen due to said family's abusive and controlling nature. Suave, cool, a voice many people would pay to hear read the phone book, he's Charm made manifest. He is also fairly egotistical, but can back it up (mostly). Cares way too much about his looks, even by Inkfish standards. One of the best snipers to ever pick up an E-Liter- could go pro if he wanted but has no interest in doing so. Skint's boyfriend, and he is fiercely loyal to him.

Warp: Cis girl, asexual. The Weird Goth Adjacent Girl. Studied Astronomy and Astrology in college/university. Has an interest in demonology, ancient religions, fortune telling, and free-running/parkour. Listens to and makes bizarre electronic music. Always looks like she hates the world, but is actually super sweet and very friendly if you try to reach out to her; until falling in with Skint and co., she was very lonely and misunderstood. She will say the absolute strangest shit or regale you with the most morbid facts unprompted. Never took much interest in Inksports until the dualies debuted, now she's an absolute beast with them.

Deca: Nonbinary, Pansexual. Was part of one of the many 'audio propaganda' units in the domes (producing music to pacify and control the masses). Didn't like the job, didn't like the music, didn't feel like they fit in. The Inkantation gave them hope, and the resulting chaos gave them a chance to escape. Came out of their shell once they established themselves on the surface, becoming a wild party animal that puts everyone else to shame; they are the ultimate hedonist. Their grasp of Inklish is very slang heavy. They've found a calling making Hard Dance/Trance music, and have become hugely successful. Always Serving™️, even hungover. Way more adept with an Octobrush than you might expect.

Waks makes fantasy TTRPGs that pull heavily from folklore, culture and history in SEA like Maharlika and Gubat Banwa. Their research into pre-colonial Philippines has always impressed me.

What are Ivy, Basil, and Neo’s fighting styles like? 

Basil is by far the best at up-close fighting out of the three of them, given that he mains Splatana Stamper. He usually dips in and out of his ink, in an attempt to throw his opponents off. If he has little ground, he might go into swim form and accidentally go into his opponent's ink, afterwards however, he'll retreat and stand his ground using the stamper's horizontal slash to keep opponents at bay, and also gain ground on them.

Neo is best at support. They use the Splattershot Jr, which allows them to not only ink the floor quickly, which helps Basil, but they can also create a safe space for their team to fall back into using big bubbler. However, they're also quite good at doing aggressive plays, and they have fairly good aim.

Ivy actually has a few weapons she mains, being Tri-Stringer, Dowser Dualies, and the Hero Shot. She's best with the Dowser Dualies, which not only give her good ranged attacks, but also allow her to splat any enemies that get too close for comfort. The main reason she uses the Tri-Stringer is that it's good for when she's in the mood for pure support. She uses the Hero Shot because It's the gear she was given. Not much else to it.
