Spirit Halloween has revealed its theme for this Halloween season. It's Carnevil (carn-evil). At first I thought it was another groanworthy excuse to do more evil clowns. I'm so sick of evil clowns but no, there are some nice surprises in this season's lineup.
They have life-size Emily and Victor from Tim Burton's The Corpse Bride. and Ghostface from Scream. And Michael Myers.
The only reason I don't collect the Spirit Halloween animatronics are…
Too poor.
No where to put them.
Even if could afford them or had a place to keep them (like my own spooky year round haunted house) I get nervous at the idea of putting together one of these animatronics. They're so intricate and fragile. I watch the Youtube unboxing videos and I get intimidated by the motors and hydrolics and want to just crawl into a ball in the corner at the idea of having to put one of these characters together.
On a side note, I think Emily from Corpse Bride, in animatronic form, looks MUCH better than the current "Constance Hatchaway" bride in the Disney Haunted Mansion ride.
I wish my mother was here to see these guys. My mother loved Corpse Bride. It was one of the last times she and I had fun at the movies together.
I still remember trying to show off being frugal at the music store before the movie by telling her they had one copy of the Corpse Bride soundtrack but I wu'nted to make sure I liked it first. And she said "It's Danny Elfman! You know you're going to love it. Go back in there and buy it." (Of course she was right.)

A massive collection of holiday music from (and about) retro videogames!
-------------
A minty, chocolate-covered compilation to get retro gamers into the spirit of the holidays - Now updated to TRIPLE the amount of songs in 3.0! Click here to download and help preserve it!
It’s always been a tradition of mine to play chiptuney covers of Christmas music and tracks from old videogames that remind me of this time of year, loudly and proudly to (grimacing) family members and houseguests.
Now I want to share this collection with you so you can do the same - 310 chilly and crisp songs from classic games, programs, and related albums that you may or may not have heard before. Prepare to hear what sleigh bells sound like in 8, 16, 32, and 64 bits!
Prepare for obvious inclusions as well as bizarre old stuff that only came out in Japan. I also tossed in some special bonus items such as the absolutely abhorrent old Pac-Man Christmas records, the adorable voice acting ladies of Tokimeki Memorial trying their best to carol you with a mix of Japanese and English, and the entirety of the "Pokémon Christmas Bash" musical album. For better or worse. See what you can find. :)
I sincerely hope you enjoy it! Feel free to add these tracks to your personal collection and spread this album far and wide to get the very merry ol' spirit of Bitsmix goin’ all over the world.

Hey, in regards to your EvilX iceberg, when did Keralis die and not get mourned or remembered?
O! that is in Carnevil 3, Xisuma, Pooka, Biffa, tsxcom (pooka's brother i think?), The Dreamer, Generik and Keralis are all in a group running away from the Jeffpocalypse, and Biffa and Keralis are captured.
Now, of the main 4 people are captured on screen, 3 of them are remembered by one of the survivors as the person who they have the strongest redstone bond (power of love/friendship) with and who's spirits help them fight back against Jeff, Kolumi for Pooka (his wife), Bdubs for Generik, and now Biffa for Xisuma. But Keralis is NOT. anyone's power of love fridged wife like the others. he gets revived/freed alongside all the other hermits at the end of CE3 but I think it's very funny he dies like 2 seconds after Biffa all Dramatically and he is Not remembered and his love used to power up someone like Biffa is to Xisuma9I0VDU8SYIVOSD. sad. well theres other guys

galloping ghost arcade
i went there. it was cool. they have like 800+ arcade cabinets, and most of them actually work! heres some of the stuff i played
the outfoxies: very funny, very chaotic. better dynamic stages than smash bros. theres so much going on in this game and i gotta see more sometime
chimera beast: i love this game! i wish it got released. i love eating enemies to mutate and gain new powers. i also appreciate how getting hit just depletes the mutation meter instead of being instant death because i am secretly bad
space bomber: just delightful. i really enjoy the art style and the enemy capturing mechanic, though if nothing else you gotta take a look at the marquee
golly! ghost: this is actually the game i came to see, but i ended up disappointed. i think the cabinet might have been fucked up somehow because it was hard to really see the screen, like the sprites and diorama lights were both too dim. really unfortunate because the mixed-media visuals are like the whole point of the game
the first funky fighter: amazing to see this in person, its a blast. the cabinet has these huge, poundable buttons that make the play experience SO satisfying
bonks adventure: i am a casual bonk enjoyer so i was surprised by how different this was from the turbografx games, its got a bunch of weird score attack mechanics and unique level environments. definitely want to look into this one more
avenging spirit: super creative idea, i love games where you can play as the enemies. another hit from jaleco...
castlevania the arcade: real neat! once i got used to how the game tracked your “cursor” the whip controls felt pretty natural. i still got rocked by death though, i think there was a dodge mechanic i didnt have to use until then or something
ninja baseball batman: ive really wanted to play this because ive got a friend whos super into it and im glad i did. excellent beat em up, feels great to play and the art style is so charming
chocovader contactee: i was surprised they had something like this, its a japanese-only minigame compilation that relies somewhat on being able to read instructions. most of the games you can figure out without them, though. of course i like it
black heart: fantasy shmup with a unique aesthetic thats a little hard to describe, its like halfway between gritty and cartoony. i dig it, but the player sprite is pretty huge and ive heard it gets frustrating fast. also jeanne is cute
dolphin blue: metal slug-like where you ride a superpowered dolphin and blow stuff up. the 2.5d art style looks great and its lots of fun to ram into stuff with the dolphin
segasonic the hedgehog: unfortunately this one was also fucked up, the monitor was too dim and one of the trackballs didnt work properly so there was just an immobile mighty the armadillo onscreen for the entire credit. but at least i can say i have played it...
virtua racing: i have very little experience with steering wheel controls for arcade racers so i was bumping into shit the whole time, still fun though
dariusburst ex: just nifty to see in its original resolution
sinistar: terrifying
time traveler: another one that was really neat to see, but didnt hold my interest. also i think the game audio was muted because all i heard from the cabinet was the beeping noise
primal rage: doesnt seem that good as like. a video game. but i liked playing as the gorilla and making loud puke noises for everyone nearby to hear
vicious circle: unreleased killer instinct-ish thing? not that into it, though i like how cinematic it gets with the stage intros and such
games which i wanted to play but were out of order: lucky & wild, holosseum, carnevil, half-life survivor

Knott’s Scary Farm 2019 Announcement Event Recap
By Kayla Caldwell
You may have missed Thursday night’s Knott’s Scary Farm Announcement event, but lucky for you, I was there and I’m ready to spill all the details. Get comfortable because, as said by presenter Jeff Tucker, it’s about to get all pumpkin spice-y up in here.
To set the tone, imagine “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)” by the Eurythmics is playing (or if you’re feeling particularly festive, actually play it). A little girl sits atop a cozy bed in the center of the stage of the Charles M. Schulz Theater, reading a bedtime story. She puts it away, thinking to herself, she’s not afraid of monsters.
Of course, that’s just when a monster emerges from behind her bed, bringing along a crew of her friends until the girl herself succumbs to the villainy. And now that you’re properly in the spirit, we’re ready to talk about Knott’s Scary Farm 2019.
We’re going to go a little bit out of order here, because we know you're dying to hear about the new mazes. First up is Wax Works, which looks like it throws you right into the terrible 2005 horror film, House of Wax. Of course, the exception here is - it actually looks amazing.
The Knott’s team studied how wax melts off of candles and used that to individually sculpt out drips, pools, and puddles on molds, Bill Meier, who works in makeup, explained in a video. They did this to create the most realistic and horrifying makeup for the mazes’s monsters.
Wax Works takes victims - I mean, guests - into the workshop of the once prominent plastic surgeon Dr. Augustus Scratch, who appears to be working with new materials of late. Don’t worry about the blood-curdling screams you hear echoing through the Wax Works halls, it’s probably not the disturbing sound of live people being submerged into a hot cauldron of bubbling wax.
After the introduction, we get a glimpse of Dr. Scratch in action with a performance of “Monster” by Big Data. Four victims are shoved into intimidating machines that look an awful lot like iron maiden torture devices, only to emerge as wax monsters we’ll likely see once the Wax Works is open to the public.
Origins: The Curse of Calico is the second new maze for 2019. Fans of witches and theatrics will be overjoyed at this telling of the history of Calico. If you’ve ever wandered through the fog in Calico, you know the monsters that lurk within. But what made them that way? It was the curse of Sarah Marshall, which brought out the inner beasts and monsters of the town’s citizens.
Maze Designer Jon Cooke calls it a, “love letter to the history of Knott’s Scary Farm.” Origins marks the first time in Knott’s history that a maze, a scare zone, and the world-famous show, The Hanging, will all be combined as part of the same mythology.
But don’t worry - Wardrobe Designer Tim Barham assures us there won’t be any confusion as to where the maze ends and the scare zone begins. See, the scare zone is muted, featuring shades of blues and grays, while the maze is alive with shades of reds and oranges.
Eric Rodriguez of special effects teases big things for Origins. Water effects, electrics, fog, and even show-stopping flying effect are all to be expected in this maze that Rodriguez says is “gonna shock people.”
To give us a little taste of said effects, the townspeople of Calico take to the stage to complain about the havoc witch Sarah Marshall has been wreaking. Just as the mayor is vowing to protect everyone, said witch herself flies out, unleashing a curse on everyone who has wronged her.
While the two new mazes are super exciting, there’s plenty more to look forward to. The Depths is returning this season, with a new freight elevator show scene, and Pumpkin Eater and Paranormal Inc. are also back with a vengeance.
Special Ops: Infected has two new rooms that will split you up from your group as you fight your way through the Hernandez’ Calico Convenience Store and Howe’s Meat Packing House. Unfortunately, this will be the final year for Special Ops: Infected as well as Shadow Lands. But, as Tucker said last night when everyone booed, “Take your aggression out on the zombies.”
Dark Entities is back with enhanced lighting effects and new scares, and Dark Ride has a new, interactive control room as well as a gift shop exit scene.
As far as scare zones, you can expect Ghost Town Streets, CarnEVIL, The Hollow, and Forsaken Lake, which features new set pieces, and a larger, expanded footprint.
If shows are more your jam, Awaken the Dead, Conjurers, the Into the Fog Art Show, and, of course, The Hanging, are all returning this year.
Additionally, Brian Henson is blessing us all with the comic relief of Puppet Up! Uncensored. This new show features six improvising comedic puppeteers who make up sketches based on suggestions from the audience.
This special production shows not only the puppet show, which is what the camera sees, but also the behind-the-scenes chaos of the puppeteers who are acting on their feet. You’ll see them in real-time on the main stage.
Puppet Up! Uncensored, directed by Patrick Bristow, is unlike any other puppet show you’ve ever seen, and - fair warning - it can get a bit risqué. At the event announcement, the comedy troupe did a wild improv about an uncomfortable date, based on the suggested words: “hospital” and “porta potty.” You can do with that what you will.
Good news for fans who want to spend as much time among the monsters as possible. The Knott’s Scary Farm Pass - which allows unlimited visits to all 26 nights - is back, and Knott’s pass holders can get it for just $90. If you don’t have a season pass, it’s just $10 more.
Single night tickets run $43 online (plus taxes and fees), while the main gate price is $84. And if you’re looking to skip the lines, the Fright and Fast Lane (which is in addition to a Scary Farm ticket) costs $90.
And with all that said, I know I’ll be over here counting down the days until Knott’s Scary Farm opens. I’ll see you all in the fog!

17 scary haunted attractions in Colorado
DENVER -- Some get a thrill from skydiving, others prefer the heart-stopping excitement of bungee jumping, but a select few genuinely seek out that indescribable adrenaline rush that comes from getting chased by a guy with a chainsaw through a dark alley.
If you’re one of those people, you don’t have to settle for Denver's haunted houses, as we’ve found more than a dozen haunted houses and attractions open for the season throughout Colorado. Check them out below.
1. Fright by Night at Elitch Gardens' Fright Fest 2000 Elitch Cir. in Denver
When the sun goes down, Fright by Night comes alive. Starting at 6 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, guests can feel the hair raise on their arms as monsters, stalkers and mayhem is let loose in the park. Fright by Night is recommended for visitors who are at least 12-years-old.
The festival is free with park admission. Some haunted attractions cost an additional fee. For more information and tickets and hours, click here.
2. The 13th Floor Haunted House 400 East 52nd Ave. in Denver
Dare to walk through Dr. Hadelstein's Bio Engineer Facility, an abandoned facility which has been churning out all sorts of abominations even after the facility was closed down; visit the eerie town of Coalfell where the Femorals, a family of self-proclaimed "Necrofarmers" have come out of hiding once again to snatch as many victims as possible to confiscate their organs; and run for your life as spirits threaten to take over your soul inside an orphanage where nothing good dwells.
New this year? A bar, Mini Escape Games and Zombie Carnival games! A night of excitement and thrills await. The spine-tingling scares start the moment you step out of your car.
Ticket prices vary by day and time of day. Visit the 13th Floor Haunted House website for hours and ticket info.
