A vast archive of knowledge, open to the public, but beneath its quiet halls lies one of the secret bases of the Home Ministry Affairs. Hidden among the shelves, the Special Division for Unusual Powers operates in secrecy, keeping watch over ability users and maintaining order from the shadows.

Assuming the special division for unusual powers is the one that assigns names for each Ability, they probably named Dazai's Ability 'no longer human' in tribute to the fact that only humans are affected by Abilities, such that being unaffected by them is alien, and therefore branded as 'not human' (take Lovecraft for example). The painful part is that they called it no longer human in recognition to the fact that he was once human, making it all the more tragic for him. Imagine telling a middle schooler he was no longer considered a human; he literally just lost his humanity, and will probably be abused for it, the adults should've seen suicide coming from a mile away.
#saff-ron tag#i believe that the#the idea of Dazai being some sort non human eldritch entity was heavily influenced by the division of unusual powers#no child would lose their self worth on their own there is always a place of influence#bsd#bungou stray dogs#bsd dazai#dazai osamu#bsd dazai osamu#osamu dazai#no longer human#bsd abilities#abilities#the special division for unusual powers#How Is That Not A Tag#bungo stray dogs

One of the most heartbreaking scenes in The Dark Era is seeing Dazai trying so desperately to convince Oda to live. Seeing Dazai clutching at straws, repeating back the advice he must have heard a thousand times at him, just to try and get through to Oda even though he knows already that it would never work.
And the worst part is, how through this whole scene Oda is acting just like Dazai, he has the same emptiness that Dazai normally only sees in himself. So now Dazai has to go through the impossible task of convincing HIMSELF to live, something he has been unable to do all these years.
I looked at Dazai. âThere isnât anything, Dazai. Itâs all over. Everything. Whatever else happens now is meaninglessâjust like what Iâm about to do. Am I wrong?â âOdasakuâŚ,â Dazai said softly. âForgive me for the absurd wording, butâdonât go. Find something to rely on. Expect good things to happen from here on out. Thereâs gotta be somethingâŚ
And then him telling Oda why he joined the mafia, even though it was clearly something he never wanted to tell anyone, in the vague hope that it just might convince Oda to stop.
Hey, Odasaku, do you know why I joined the Mafia?â I stared at him. We had known each other for a long time, but heâd never even attempted to talk about that. âI joined the Mafia because of an expectation I had. I thought if I was close to death and violenceâclose to people giving in to their urges and desires, then I would be able to see the inner nature of humankind up close. I thought if I did thatâŚâ Dazai paused before continuing, ââŚI would be able to find somethingâa reason to live.â
But he can't do it, Oda is too far gone at this point, he lost not only the children, but his dream. He was in unimaginable grief and suffering and just wanted things to end.
I looked at him; he looked back at me. âI wanted to be a novelist,â I said. âI thought I wouldnât deserve such a life if I killed someone during a mission. Thatâs why I never killed anyone. But thatâs all in the past. Thereâs only one thing I want now.â âOdasaku!â I began to walk away. Dazai yelled out, but I didnât turn around. Heading west, I started my journey.
Oda's listlessness is almost a perfect mirror of Dazai in the bar after Ango has betrayed them.
âIâm not sad. I knew from the very beginning,â Dazai said. His face was a blank mask now. âIt didnât matter whether you were with the Special Division for Unusual Powers. I always lose the things I donât want to lose the most. Thatâs why I donât feel anything anymore. The moment you get your hands on something worth going after, you lose it. Thatâs just how things are. There is nothing worth pursuing at the cost of prolonging a life of suffering.â I stared at Dazai. We had known each other for a while, but this was the first time heâd ever opened up about himself. I could see a thorn the size of a harpoon wedged deeply into his life.
This is why I say Oda is the only character to ever truly understand Dazai, because he saw the part of Dazai that he kept most hidden from the world, he knew Dazai's unending loneliness and emptiness. And in the end, he was consumed by the very same thing. But before he died, he did what only he could do, and gave Dazai a way to escape that emptiness.

Today is the fourth anniversary of HITMAN 3, the last game in the World of Assassination trilogy!
Iâve wanted to write something about it for a while because I love it, but as much as I enjoyed playing it, taking my time exploring the levels, finding useful objects, taking notes, completing challenges, listening to conversations, following my targets, and being as stealthy as I could to reach âperfectionâ in each mission, what Iâd like to talk about today is the scenario. Indeed, this trilogy doesnât just have good gameplay, a nice soundtrack, and pretty visuals, it also has a great story.
My favorite thing about Hitman, at least in the most recent games (the first I played was the divisive Hitman: Absolution), also happens to be one of the main focuses of this trilogy: the relationship between the protagonist, Agent 47, and his handler (I would even say the deuteragonist), Diana Burnwood.
To me, their bond is just so special, unique, and compelling, so nearly four years after finishing HITMAN 3, I decided to write this post as an attempt to finally organize my many thoughts about it, but also and mostly, about them.
My relationship with theirs: how it started vs. how itâs going.
When I want to summarize whatâs going on between Diana and 47, I usually like to describe their connection as âplatonic, but more in the French acceptation of the termâ... which must sound rather confusing or boring to most of you, especially if youâre a native English speaker, but Iâm not, so let me explain what it means to me.
I must digress for a moment here but, the first few times I saw people use the term âplatonicâ in English to talk about friends or even family, I was quite confused. In French, if we say a relationship is âplatoniqueâ, thereâs only a small chance that what we mean is, âTheyâre just friendsâ and a much higher probability that what weâre actually saying is, âTheyâre having a soulmates-level of romance so deep and spiritual that carnality is completely unnecessaryâ instead. Iâd find it weird to use that word to describe relationships that are inherently not sexual; it mostly refers to a âspecialâ kind of romance in French.
And this is what Diana and 47âs relationship is to me: something powerful and unconventional that I donât think can reasonably be described as definitely romantic but that simultaneously manages to be, somehow, the ultimate form of romance.
So, as a fan of this unusual and seemingly unbreakable bond, playing through the entire trilogy was a delight. There were a few scenes in the first two games that made me smile like an idiot (such as this one), but in HITMAN 3 in particular, there were even more moments to enjoy.
I was pleased to see 47 get a bit upset when he realized Lucas didnât fully trust Diana and to hear him affirm she would make things right because âshe always doesâ, felt vindicated when she told Edwards he was âdelusionalâ if he thought she could betray 47, was touched when Olivia said she understood why he wanted to âprotect herâ, then both surprised by the bluntness and happy with the assertiveness of 47âs âYou donât know herâ after she questioned Dianaâs allegiance, and I even pretty much turned into that âexcited Kermitâ reaction GIF when Diana explained she was 47âs only weakness even though that was exactly what I expected her to say.
Finally, in Mendoza, the most exciting mission for me despite its worrying name (âThe Farewellâ), I loved their conversation at the beginning, was glad to hear that he was right about her true intentions and loyalty all along, and much like he clearly was, caught off guard when she touched his hand. In the rest of the level, I enjoyed following her around and found their banter and synergy quite delightful, especially at the end. Then, of course, there was also the tango.
But when the âNecessary Evilâ cutscene happened, I was⌠upset. Well, the first time I saw it, at least, because there is so, so much more depth and beauty to this scene than I initially realized, as concerned as part of me was that yet another franchise I love had forgotten its own lore and was collapsing in on itself before my eyes, ripping away from me what I loved most about it. Thankfully, that was not what was happening.
Looking at what I know of their history, I was and still am very much confident that Diana and 47 would rather turn against the rest of the world (and do it together) than be disloyal to each other, so even though I kept telling myself that her betrayal was fake and she had a plan, I was disappointed to see that, contrary to what I thought, they werenât past the point of pretending to deceive and/or kill each other as a way to fool and bring down powerful people and organizations. She âkilledâ him in Blood Money, he âkilledâ her in Absolution; they were even. She most likely thought things had to happen this way to truly work, but I hoped they were done keeping secrets from one another. Iâm still sad she had to trick him, and even more so that, even for just a moment, he genuinely thought she was serious and that he had lost her too.
In the toxin-induced and introspective hallucination that follows, 47 faces his worst fears... and some happen to be Diana deriding, belittling, and abandoning him. This was painful to watch because those are distressing thoughts for him, but to be honest, I also liked seeing just how much she meant to him. When he watches her dancing with Edwards, I couldnât help but think of that scene in Polarized, the fifth episode of Life is Strange, in which Max, also drugged, has a nightmare and sees her âspecial friendâ Chloe criticizing and replacing her. Fortunately, 47 quickly reconsiders the situation, talking some sense into himself with the help of âLucasâ. The other voice in his mind, Dianaâs, encourages him to trust his intuition, and so he finally understands what he has to do.
Although she partly left him in the dark about her strategy and there are certain things she didnât say, rewatching âNecessary Evilâ made me appreciate how much Diana did say and how significant all of that was. Indeed, despite the apparent disingenuity of her act, the context suggesting, at first glance, that sheâs either backstabbing him or purely playing a character, and the rather contemptuous tone she made sure to use to fool her audience, itâs since become apparent to me that she meant every single word she said.
She makes it sound like sheâs turning against him and doesnât want to see him anymore, but what sheâs actually saying is that he, like everyone else, should be free to forge his own path. Even though she meant no harm and believed it was what he needed when she recruited him, she felt she used him, that he was only a tool, a weapon she controlled, and it was not right. He didnât object when she chose him as her agent 20 years earlier, but had he not lost his memory and been truly able to make an informed decision, what would he have chosen?
And when she says she knows it was 47 who killed her parents, which is something he (and the players) only recently discovered, although she doesnât even blame him for it, he apologizes. He sincerely apologizes, with an unusual and palpable pain in his voice. Heâs genuinely sorry for what happened (so much so that he thinks thatâs reason enough for her to want him dead), and maybe also for not having had the courage to tell her the horrifying truth. She deserved to know, but maybe out of shame, because he didnât want her to suffer or for their relationship to be affected, he chose not to say anything. Had she known the full story sooner, though, what would she have chosen?
Dianaâs last words before she leaves and he loses consciousness are, âThis is a kindness. Goodbye... agentâ. âGoodbyeâ, not âfarewellâ. âAgentâ, not â47â. This is the end of the partnership she realized she imposed on him, but whether or not itâs also the end of the friendship they nonetheless built along the way is up to him. Sheâs been the one making most of the choices this whole time, and now itâs his turn. Calling what sheâs just done a âkindnessâ isnât a lie or emotional manipulation; itâs a fact. In their âown special wayâ, they care about each other, deeply and earnestly, but both of them also made selfish decisions they convinced themselves were in the otherâs best interest. In that scene, theyâre finally facing their past(s) and accepting the truth, freeing themselves and each other in the process.
âNecessary Evilâ was initially worrying to watch, but what it shows isnât the brutal and grim end of a 20-year partnership; itâs a moment of pure honesty, maybe even the most heart-to-heart conversation Diana and 47 have ever had. After this âlast tangoâ, she sets him free, allowing him to live the life he wants. At last.
Although, again, I would have preferred her to do things differently and spare him that suffering, I also absolutely love the fact she didnât even need to reveal her full plan for him to figure out what it was and carry it out exactly the way she expected him to. I suppose itâs not that surprising since heâs already demonstrated many times in many ways that he knows her better than anyone else does (and vice versa, probably), but itâs still fascinating. They donât need words to communicate anymore, yet the few they exchanged before leaving Mendoza were salutary. A necessary evil, indeed.
In the last scene of the game, one year later, 47 recontacts Diana and informs her of his decision to go back to doing his former job, but this time by choice and on his own terms. âItâs good to be backâ, he says with a smile (yes, a smile) on his face. There was one on mine too as I realized this was a callback to the very first âAnnouncement Trailerâ for the World of Assassination trilogy. In the video, however, it was Diana who said, âGood to have you backâ while he remained silent the whole time. In more than one way, the trilogy ends the way it started, but the major difference is that 47 now truly has a voice.
âI choose himâ, confidently said Diana in the prologue, thus starting their productive partnership. More than 20 years later, heâs back in business, not because he has to but because he wants to, believing his mission is not done and wishing to continue it⌠but not alone. Finally free to do whatever he pleases and having had time to decide what he wanted his life to be, 47 came to a conclusion, and what he tells Diana in the epilogue, implicitly but assuredly, is, âI choose you.â
Almost six years after it was first announced, the trilogy has come full circle, and it feels like IO Interactive had it all planned out from the start. Diana and 47 are back to being partners, and by embracing their past, they can build their future on better, stronger, and healthier foundations. Now, more than ever, itâs them together against the rest of the world. As a fan of their duo, as well as nicely wrapped-up and carefully written stories in general, I donât know if I could have dreamt of a more satisfying ending.
Perfectly executed.

so fyodor's ability huh?
imagine being his lover, someone he had spent years with as you slowly built up your friendship which eventually blossomed into something more. except you were there as an undercover agent for the 'special division of unusual powers'.
they wanted to know about fyodor and his ability but they knew it would be no easy feat, so you offered to go undercover and build trust with a man referred to as a demon. one day however you feared he was getting too close to the truth, to figuring out your intentions. so you preemptively killed him.
except that's how you figured out his ability. now fyodor had to live his life knowing he held the bittersweet curse of living in his lovers body...

Ango x Muscular Reader Headcannons
This for my bro đŚ
anon. I'm sorry, I accidentally deleted your original req, thank God I still remember what you asked for!
Also, *removes glasses and grimly rubs forehead* I felt kinda guilty since I wasn't able to do your recent Fyodor ask justice, so this is a compensation for that. Hope you like it.
Contents: Muscular Reader x Ango Akaguchi. Both SFW and NSFW Headcannons.
Warnings: Smut, Top male reader, Nipple play, virgin Ango, virginity loss.
SFW
I can see Ango getting slightly flustered when he first sees you.
You, a rookie ability user in the Special Division for Unusual Powers unit, greeting him formally, and the first thing Ango registers is your sheer size.
To begin with, you're 6'2", considerably taller than Ango himself at 5'8". (Yes, I looked up his height.)
Moreover, that's not all to your build. One glance at you and anyone would be able to tell you work out. Your arms are as thick as an average man's quads, to say the least. And your uniform is visibly straining against your chest; that thing is not going to last long.
But in the beginning Ango is only slightly impressed, glad to have someone who's physically strong on the team, just in case an incident like that of Tatsuhiko Shibusawa happens again. Draconia was frightening, and Ango is more than happy to have someone who would have a chance fighting against their own ability.
And then you two get partnered up for your first mission.
The only reason Ango gets put on it is because of his ability 'Decadence of Discourse'. The government needs him to unravel the location of an ability user mass bomber, who's recently escaped from prison.
It's not an easy one, and Ango feels obligated to guide you through it, but as you two unravel mystery after mystery, he slowly learns that you're not ignorant enough to be a total rookie.
So, after the mission is completed, he treats you to dinner. It's a simple gesture, but you notice the intention behind it all the same. And yet, you go.
He tries to get you drunk, but your alcohol tolerance is too much, and at the end of the day, you pretend to be wasted just to see what he'd do.
When Ango uses his ability on you, you let him, having nothing to hide. And he finds out more than enough to satisfy his curiosity.
You were in the Port Mafia before.
Despite knowing, he doesn't bring it up. You find it amusing, how he went so far to find out, and then withdrew silently.
Time passes, and Ango and you grow closer. He tries not to trust you, his job does not permit him to, yet you somehow wiggle your way into his heart, all big and strong.
Now, when you lean over him, or get too close in an elevator, he feels his face heat up, and tries his best to look away. He can't afford to have feelings, he tells himself.
And yet they're out of his control.
You notice, just how you notice everything else. Slightly amused, you tease him a little, standing a little too close when you talk to him, or leaning across him to reach things you could have grabbed either way, just feel his breath hitch.
But I mean, could you deny that you felt the same way, though? Not when Ango adjusts his glasses the way he does every time he gets flustered, a habit you notice that he wasn't aware of himself. How cute, you think.
So when you two do get into a relationship (after an adorable drunk confession from Ango and a whole morning of coaxing him to admit what he said last night) you feel quite decently accomplished in getting THE Ango Sakaguchi all red and stuttering just with a forehead kiss.
NSFW
The first time you two have sex, Ango is more than nervous, even though it's him who asked you if you wanted to do it.
So prep him gently, placing kisses along his jawline and down along his collarbone as he moans and clutches the sheets underneath him.
And when you finally put your fat cock in him, do give him time to adjust. Being a member of a confidential governmental department, dating opportunities don't come by everyday, so you'll excuse him for being a virgin, right?
Start gentle, your cock pumping in and out of Ango as he gets used to the feeling of your tip against his walls, moans spilling non-stop from his pretty mouth.
Kiss him quiet, your neighbours won't be happy at the amount of noise he's making. Or fuck him faster, each of his sounds driving you to please him more, more.
Slam into his sweet spot, and he'll arch his back off the bed, blunt nails digging into your back and drawing blood as a cry rips itself from his throat, eyes wide and tearing up.
Fuck him nice and good, till he forgets his own name, till the only thing his brain can process is your cock against his tight walls, abusing and bullying his sweet spot with such precision it makes him see stars.
Wipe away his tears before you continue to pound into him, and plant soft kisses on his face and chest. Suck on his nipples, kiss and bite them, and he'll come undone right then, hips bucking as cum shoots out of his untouched dick, hole clenching pathetically around you.
Let him come down from his high before you continue; it's only his first time, you can overstimulate him some other day, right?
When you start over, he will bury his face into the crook of your neck, muffling his moans and cries against your skin and just sobbing into your shoulder.
Fuck him till you come, bringing him to his second orgasm just with the feeling of your seed hitting his walls.
Pull out of him and kiss him softly, tell him he did good, and he'll smile dazedly, burying his face into your thick chest.

LETTER | Signora/Rosalyne
PAIRING: Signora/Rosalyne x Gn!Fatuus!Reader
CW: angst no comfort, character d3aths (two people are implied to pass away), toxic relationship, reader and Signora are only flings, mentions of su!cide, mentions of smut but not explicitly, Scaramouch makes an appearance.
SUMMARY: You were nothing but a fleeting moment in the Fair Ladyâs life, but a single letter caused a permanent scar in her heart, far worse than what Rostam left her.Â
A/N: Ask me why I rewrote a fanfic from 2021 in 2023. Itâs because I needed to get out of this damn thing called writerâs block <3 Itâs gender neutral but it was written with a female reader in mind. Her Majesty refers to the Tsaritsa and Rostam is Signoraâs late lover btw.
WORDS: 2,413
(FANFIC IS UNDER THE CUT!)
Signora⌠Rosalyne, rather, is a woman who harbors negative emotions. Rostamâs death brought her so much grief, turning her into the misunderstood Crimson Witch. Love rendered Rosalyne miserable, and the burning fire in her heart was too powerful to extinguish.Â
It was because of the Tsaritsa that made her who she is today, a cold Harbinger named Signora, the Fair Lady. She devoted herself to the Cyro Archon for vengeance so that she may let her lover rest once and for all. Everything she does is to honor him, and she will continue to do so until she meets him again.Â
The power of liquid fire gave Signora a longer lifespan. It was useful for revenge, but it was dreadful when she longed for her lover. They have been apart for so many centuries. But amid her life, someone caught her attention.
You were but a simple Fatuus messenger who served the Sixth Harbinger Balladeer. It was rare for Harbingers to cross paths with one another, much less their servants, but Signora saw you â far more than she could remember.Â
She observed you from afar out of pure interest. Perhaps she was bored. Perhaps she found you suspicious, for you were too naive and pure to work for an organization like this. But you were skilled in your field. Your talent juxtaposed your looks, she admits. And so she asked the Tsaritsa to place you in her division, deeming you would be more fit under her wing.
The Fair Lady wanted to keep you.Â
The reason: unknown.Â
The ambiguity of why Signora took you in soon disappeared. She found herself seeing a part of Rostam in your nature. It was more apparent when she learned of your feelings toward her. Just like Rostam, she would say, of course, not in your presence. She became infatuated with you over time. It wasnât the same infatuation as your previous lovers, but you welcomed her with open arms.Â
How could you deny the woman, who was clearly out of your league?Â
When Inazuma closed its borders, your relationship as lovers became official, albeit a secret from the others, though everyone can sense a rather unusual intimate atmosphere between you two.Â
You two werenât like others, not because you were in a relationship with your superior, but because she was indifferent and sought your affection, not you. It may be because of her past â that you didnât know of â but you pushed the heavy feelings aside as you were grateful to have the privilege to call Signora yours.Â
You did everything you could to make her feel loved, and Signora felt like her old self, the young maiden from Mondstadt, Rosalyne: the young woman who was in love with a knight named Rostam. But your time together was fleeting.
The demise of your relationship started when she was assigned to collect the Gnoses per the Tsaritsaâs command. You two became equally busy. Signora became more distant and tense, too focused on the mission as if she had been waiting for this moment. She has, but you didnât know why.Â
Other Fatuus turned their backs on you upon learning your relationship with the Harbinger. It was understandable, but you didnât receive special treatment. You worked harder than everyone else, and Signora was harsher toward you, pinning every mistake your peers committed.Â
Thoughts filled your head, wondering if your relationship with Signora was normal for lovers. All she does is take, take, and take, but not once has she given you the same affection. You tried to understand her, but you were hurting yourself. Even so, you still loved her, because love comes with pain, does it not? Surely, this is only a bumpy road in your relationship.
You were wrong. You knew your relationship was over when Signora requested Her Majesty to place you back in Balladeerâs unit. She didnât say anything, but her actions told you of her intentions. It hurt how cold she was to you that day as if you werenât the person she shared her bed with, entangled in each otherâs bodies. She acted like your time together meant nothing to her.
As you readjusted to being under Balladeerâs command, not once have you seen Signora. You knew she didnât want to see you anymore, but your heart did not waver, rather, your heart ached from not seeing her. You were holding onto false hope â hoping she was only distant to remain professional, but you knew she was too busy, or did not bother, to officialize your parting.Â
Everything you did was for her, just as everything Signora did was for Rostam. You realized you knew nothing of her past, save for having a lover. You did not know him, what their story was, and how they parted. But you saw longing and love in Signoraâs eyes.Â
There were times when Signora looked at you with an unrecognizable gaze. Only now did you learn what it was. The ache in your heart was unbearable, knowing you were just someone to fill the hole in her heart, the hole Rostam left. She didnât love you like you loved her. It hurt so much. But you were meant to be utilized, for you were a tool. A tool has various purposes. Signora merely took advantage of your love to fulfill her needs.Â
It was hard to accept, but you tried to, for this was reality. After all, the Fair Lady gave you, a mere Fatuus, an opportunity to become part of her private life. A Harbinger cannot be romantically involved with an underling. Although you can no longer call her yours, it was a privilege you had, and you will forever cherish your time together, because everything you do is for her, regardless of what she saw you as. You were only flings, but your feelings for her will remain eternal.
You just hope she will remember you, even when you no longer liveâŚÂ

âWhat uselessness. Your lover, rather, ex-lover, tried to attack the blonde due to some personal grudge. My plans wouldâve gone smoothly if not for their interruption,â Scaramouche grumbled, crossing his arms with a petty scoff. âIt wasnât even a big injury; they bled to death. Her Majesty wouldâve had them disposed of were they to survive anyway.âÂ
Signora was too engrossed in your state to process his words as horrified eyes gazed at your lifeless body before her. Cuts and bruises decorated your skin, and the shine in your eyes was now dull. She had realized you were dead. But somehow, you looked more at peace, as though she could see you smiling at her with glimmering eyes. She felt her heart sink from the thought.
âI couldâve left them where they were, so you owe me, Signora. Alas, you better not linger for too long, you have yet to meet the Shogun,â are the words the puppet told her before swinging the sliding the shoji doors and disappearing to who-knows-where.
It was a dĂŠjĂ vu, a familiar feeling, yet it was different. Signoraâs feelings didnât make sense. You were nothing but a fleeting moment in her life, but the impact you had on her was great. You passed away fighting someone, like Rostam when he fought in the war and lost his life. Only this time, there was a corpse presented before her.
Signora didnât know how long she towered over your body and bore into your soulless eyes, but it mustâve been a while for salty tears pooled on the bloody tatami mat. And so she fell on her knees as her sobs grew louder. Trembling fingers carefully mounted your head on her chest, cradling you like a newborn child. The growing pool of blood tainted everything around you, including Signoraâs precious dress.
Your body was losing warmth each second, and she was desperately holding onto everything that was left. Signora received everything you had. She wishes you keep your warmth. You canât throw it away like some fool, but she knew it was too late. Your fingertips were as cold as her delusionâs powers.Â
The last time she cried, tears of amber rolled down her cheeks, turning her into the Crimson Witch as liquid fire consumed her. But here she was, weeping salty tears like a human being. Does a part of her humanity still linger within her? Was this your doing? It was a bittersweet feeling, she admits. But she remembers youâre no longer with her. Your bright soul is gone because of her.
âYou fool! I⌠I couldnât even say goodbyeâŚâ
The woman you gave your heart to let her walls down as she grieved, her heart tightening from the pain.Â
But didnât she use you? Why would she grieve for a pawn she used? She couldnât possibly have the right to mourn for you when your death is the consequence of her actions, her indifference.Â
Signora hugs you close as she rocks on her knees like a mother hushing her crying child. But she was crying, and you were hushed, still and cold, stinging her skin. Only your blood remained warm, but it was soon drying up, becoming as cold as you, further bringing pain to her heart.
Is this Celestiaâs punishment for going against the heavenly principles? Must her life be full of woe?Â
Signoraâs sobs resonated around the room, grief apparent in her cries, hugging you tighter and tighter, refusing to let you go until her fingers brushed against a tattered letter from your coatâs pocket. Tears soaked her attire to clear her vision and grab the letter.Â
Her stomach churned as she saw to whom it was for. It was for her.Â
Dear Signora,
I never got to know your real name, My Lady. I didnât want to pry by asking, but your name must be beautiful. Itâs a shame, really. I wouldâve loved for your name to fall from my lips. It wouldâve been intimate of us, donât you think? Alas, we werenât meant to be. I understand you have your reasons for being distant and for using me. It was painful â for the woman I love does not reciprocate my feelings â but I hold no grudge, nor regret giving my life to you. Iâm honored to have been able to give you my love. I will forever cherish the fleeting moments we shared.Â
Iâm writing you this letter to officialize the goodbye we never had. The moment I was brought back to my unit, I knew we were over, but I hoped you would come back for me. It was a foolish thought, I know, but itâs funny now that I think about it. I really am in love. And I keep hoping for something impossible because my feelings are strong for you, My Lady. Please donât feel burdened. I say this because, as much as you try to hide it, and it may be presumptuous of me, but you care. You may not love me, but I can feel your caringness toward me. Iâm grateful. I truly am.
Now, if ever you read this letter, it means Iâm no longer alive. I made sure of it. It would be a miracle if you even found this letter. Please donât misunderstand the situation. I wavered a duel with the traveler for a reason. Even if I came back unscathed, which would be another miracle, my life would be terminated by Her Majesty for my disobedience. I donât dare to take my own life. Frankly, I wish to say Iâm tired, My Lady. I simply do not find joy in being alive anymore and wish to rest. Iâve been planning for this moment for a long time, even before I met you, so please donât blame yourself for my death. I admire how you still have that will within you. The reason must be to avenge someone you loved, no? I apologize for doing some background work on your history, albeit not finding much, but I wanted to know more about you.Â
I hope you succeed, My Lady. I wish for you to lay off your burdens and find peace. I want to thank you for making my life bloom with color before I left. Therefore, I have no regrets in life. Although without your permission, allow me to say I love you. I may have never said these words in front of you, and have been contemplating whether or not to say them, but I was too late to decide. Thus, I end my letter with my declaration of love and parting.
I love you so much, My Fair Lady.
â Your former Fatuus underling.
The letter fell from her grasp as she drowned in grief, the ink drowning in her tears, rendering the paragraphs illegible. Was she so distant that you dared not sign your letter intimately? You even addressed her formally, as if it was a report. Why did you stay with someone like her? She knew why, but she refused to acknowledge it. You loved her so much that you put yourself and your pain aside to please her and let yourself get used.
Signora cups your face, gently pressing her warm lips against your forehead, your eyes, your nose, your cheeks, until your cold lips meet with hers. How your lips cuddled against hers, oh so perfectly. Only now did she realize how warm your kisses were, how you would smile and blush, even if it was a quick peck. Those kisses were your kisses, they werenât Rostamâs.
She was responsible for your death, Signora assures. You may have been planning it for a long time, but her ignorance caused the last blow. Had she not exploited you, you might've still been breathing, and happy with someone who deserves you, someone who would devote their life to you, someone who would love you as you loved her. You were the flower she poisoned and left to wither due to her actionsâŚ
Signora truly did not deserve someone like you.
âMy name is Rosalyne. Please say it, my name. Please speak, pleaseâŚâ
A blood-chilling cry of grief filled the room when you remained silent, unable to utter the name you yearned to say. You were gone, truly gone. She killed you.
Rosalyne didnât choose you because you were an image of Rostam. She chose you because you made her feel human. But she was blinded, not realizing the truth behind her emotions.
.

âRosalyne!â
It wasnât you; it was Rostam.
