*me immediately after going through a terrifying and traumatic experience* haha yeah I guess it was rough but I'm fine now like I'm totally chill. It was kinda funny actually if you think about it
#GUESS WHO GOT A PIERCING INFECTION SO BAD OVERNIGHT SHE HAD TO RUSH TO THE HOSPITAL#AND GET SURGERY TO REMOVE IT BC THE METAL WAS BURROWING ITSELF INSIDE HER LIP#yep that was meee :3#man. it sounds so silly now. like that probably shouldn't have made me panic nearly as much as it did#but you have to understand at the time it was terrifying#I noticed my lip was a bit swollen earlier in the night but I was like ok it's probably nothing serious#I put some ice on it hoping it would be back to normal after I got some sleep#then I woke up at like 5:30 AM with my lip super swollen and my lip piercing literally burying itself inside my flesh#I tried pushing it back out a bit and blood and pus started coming out so yk I started panicking#so I went upstairs and I asked my mom to drive me to the hospital#luckily we have free healthcare in brazil and the hospital was basically empty(this was on sunday)#but when I got there they told me the doctor wouldn't arrive until 8AM and it was like 6:45 at that point#so I REALLY started panicking 🫠 bc I could feel like the piercing kept burying itself more deeply like#I felt like the skin inside my lip was going to close around it and I was terrified bc I had no idea what to do#and I was scared it might make things worse#but all I could do was sit there and wait and so I started having a panic attack#luckily my mom was there with me the whole time so at least I didn't feel alone#and then I just. waited for it to end. and then tried to keep myself distracted until the doctor got there#I got treated by military doctors! sjdjcjck the army has been giving additional support for hospitals in my city#bc of the floods some health units are currently closed and demand got higher so they needed extra support there#so an army doctor performed my surgery(inside an army tent no less ajfjjfkf maybe not ideal but. functional)#he was so nice?? like probably the calmest most careful doctor I've ever been treated by#I still had a bit of a nervous breakdown again after the surgery but that was bc I'd never been through something like that before#I got anesthesia obvs but I still felt the tug when he cut into my skin to remove the piercing and did my stitches#so my mind started cooking up all these horrible scenarios of how everything could go wrong and I was gonna die#cried on the doctor's table. 👍🏻 awesome#but he and his assistant were super nice about it she even offered me a hug#but anyway in the end I finally calmed down and got some medication#now I'm all stitched up with my little bloated lip eating soup out of a straw 👍🏻 but I'm ALIVE and I'm just glad it's all over fjjvjkf#sleep.txt

I'm generally a hater of "AI" but I do appreciate that it's pretty freely available to do one of the most soulless bullshit tasks in existence, which is customizing resumes and writing cover letters. Employers have been using algorithmic filtering of people's job applications for the last 15+ years and it's about time that the scales even out a little bit.

It was one of my nights to make dinner - and I hadn't done a good job planning ahead. Whipped out a jar of arrabiata sauce I had and i knew i had some leftover hamburger from earlier in the week.... Then looked around for pasta and did not find good pasta candidates for the most part... Gnocchi and Tortellini - that I knew other people might want to tap on their dinner nights... And then I remember boxes of lasagna noodles that had been sitting there for months - and they weren't no boil noodles. (lets be real - the person who bought those hates cooking and there's no way on god's green earth do i see her making any kind of lasagna from scratch - let alone boiling the noodles first ok? ) So I was like - YEP , you're mine, you orphan lasagna noodles!
Broke the noodles ehhhh into relatively similar size pieces and then for good measure tossed cream cheese into the sauce - do not come for me. authentic? hell no. creamy and a nice balance to the extra red pepper i added to make the sauce spicier? yes. Also since I had sauteed onions and a whole buncha minced garlic before cooking the meat and sauce - it was niiiice. at least niiiiice for very little forethought.
(and i had made paul's pumpkin bars - like pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting for dessert - that cake is life ok. and i hadn't had it since my mom passed. that one was for you out there mom- and whoever the heck paul was - mom got the recipe from someone at work or the newspaper back in the day)
ANYWAY - when we sat down to dinner, someone looked at the bowl of pasta and sauce and asked, " So.... What is this exactly?
My response to this semi-saltily delivered query was," FOOD."
After letting the resulting silence sit for a nice little moment or three I then added, "But if you feel you need a fancy name, consider it as 'Deconstructed Lasagna served in a Creamy Tomato and Beef Ragout to be followed by Pumpkin Bars ala Paul."
The peanut gallery let me have this one.

(Long rant below. Contains minor spoilers for upcoming food souls.)
One thing that constantly frustrates me is trying to translate chinese nicknames for the food men into English.
One of the most recent examples is Yusheng aka Shunde Raw Fish. As read from the name, the original dish is a fish dish so the name Yusheng (俞生:yú shēng) name is a play on the word chinese word fish (鱼: yú). You can see this in many current and upcoming food souls such as Taibai Duck (太白鸭���tài bái yā) aka Baiya (白琊: bái yá), Stuffed Carp aka (三鲜脱骨鱼:sān xiān tuō gǔ yú) aka Ah Yu (阿喻: ā yù), Yangzhou Fried Rice (扬州炒饭:yáng zhōu chǎo fàn)aka Yangzhou (扬舟: yáng zhōu)
Directly translating these names isn't an issue unless the food soul's name has special meaning to it. For example, Meng Po Soup's "mortal name" is 无情 (wú qíng) which directly translates to "no emotions". He's called that because of the spirits who come and see him, all describing him as a heartless person who doesn't care about other people's feeling. His mother Meng Po doesn't like the origin of this name so she calls him 阿情 (ā qíng) as removing the 无 also removes the connotation of Meng Po Soup not having any feelings. It shows how much she adores him and loves him as a son... except both names would be hard to carry over to English while retaining their original meaning. Directly translating it to Wu Qing and Ah Qing will lose the name's meaning to global audience.
(That's part of the reason why in this fic, I translated 无情 to Heartless as it keeps the original meaning. By translating it to this, Meng Po can call him as Sweetheart to keep that sense of familial bond and endearment she has for him.)
Meaning is one thing, trying to keep the formality and closeness in a name is another thing. For example, Buddha's Temptation is often referred to as 福公 (fú gōng)in game and by fans alike. The 福 in his name means prosperity and 公 is used to refer to gentlemen with high status or look like nobility, giving off the impression that he is someone worthy of respect which he is. Other than translating it directly, one way to translate it is "Lord Prosperity" but that sounds way too formal. Another way is "Mister Prosperity" or "Sir Fu" but that doesn't give off the vibes as the original name hnggggg
