Ya think the reason Shadow is so offended by Sonic calling him a Faker is because it's the one thing Shadow is most afraid of? That slim chance that he isn't...real? That he's artificial...a fake?

week 31: the velveteen rabbit

if you don't already know it, the velveteen rabbit is an old kid's book about a little boy's toy rabbit who wants to be real. it's told by an older toy that being loved makes toys real, and eventually becomes the boy's favourite toy. a while later the boy gets scarlet fever and it's decided his entire room needs to be disinfected, which requires burning all his things - including the velveteen rabbit. reminiscing on its life with the boy before being burnt, it cries a real tear which summons a fairy. because the boy loved his toy rabbit enough to consider it real, the fairy wants to make it real to everyone, so takes it into the forest and turns it into a real rabbit. the story ends with the boy, now healthy, seeing rabbits in the forest and noticing that one of them has the same markings as his old favourite toy, which makes him happy.

it's a very sweet book and i loved it a lot as a kid! and... well you can maybe see why i drew the velveteen rabbit with metal :]

A lot of people joke that Tom’s recovery was miraculous — there’s no way he should’ve survived Shadow’s blow — but maybe it really was a miracle, thanks to the chaos emeralds.

In the second movie, Knuckles mentions that the power of the Master Emerald can create miracles. It turns thoughts into reality. And then we see Sonic use that power to make it rain chili dogs — what he desires most at the time.

In the third movie, Sonic and Shadow share the power of the Master Emerald when they both absorb/tap into the chaos emeralds. It makes sense that Sonic would be hoping/wishing/praying for Tom to survive more than anything. But that’s only one half of the ME, right? Shadow’s the other half. For a miracle to happen, they’d probably have to want the same thing.

So what if after Sonic and Shadow’s heart-to-heart on the moon, they do? We see that Shadow regrets his actions and wants to fix his mistakes however he can, even if it means sacrificing himself to push the Eclipse Cannon away from Earth… But he can’t undo the pain he’s caused Sonic, the only other person besides Maria that he’s connected with, that has treated him as a friend.

Sonic has shown him kindness despite everything, and Shadow wishes that Sonic not have to suffer another loss, especially at his hands. Sonic may be able to bear the pain, but he shouldn’t have to. If Shadow could go back, if there’s one thing he could do differently… He would spare Tom Wachowski. That human should live.

Sonic and Shadow’s hearts wish for the same thing. Their shared thought becomes reality, bing bam boom — Tom wakes up in the hospital, much to the bewilderment of every single nurse and doctor in the building.

Because it’s always doomed. General Sonadow and Lansoni, both are doomed.

For general Sonadow, it’s implied in a few different ways that Shadow is functionally immortal/partially immortal, but Sonic is absolutely mortal… so in the end, Shadow will be left alone.

For Lansoni, well, that’s literally not Sonic’s world. Whether you believe the events of satbk are set in the past or in a myth, Sonic doesn’t belong there and can’t stay. So they’ll have to part ways eventually.

Either way, they are fucked. WHY CAN’T WE EVER HAVE A NORMAL QUEER SHIP, GUYS…
