Who should play Mr. Fantastic in the MCU?
Tumblr media
With the upcoming MCU Fantastic Four movie set for 2025, as soon as the writer's strike comes to an end, we will likely get our cast for the film dropped. Before that time comes, I thought I would give me two cents for who should play each role, starting with our leading man.
Perhaps the most over fan casted character in the past year, Reed Richards is a particularly hard nail to hit on the head. While the characteristics are simple enough, smartest man in world, leader of the fantastic, emotionally distant, maybe a bit awkward, borderline mad scientist, all of those traits can easily be attributed to a number of different actors.
Depending on how you want to play it, there has been a number of fantastic (pun intended) options thrown around the rumor mill: Penn Badgley, John Krasinski returning, Glenn Howerton, William Jackson Harper, Adam Driver, Matt Smith, and oh so many more.
Tumblr media
While I like a lot of these and really wouldn't be upset with most of them, I thought I'd throw my three ideas in the ring.
I will also say, my initial pick was William Jackson Harper, but twitter and one of my favorite Fan Casters Nando V Movies (go check out their YouTube channel) already casted him. But if he got it, I would be very pleased.
Tumblr media
Finally, I'll preface, I am going for originality. There have been SO many picks for Mr. Fantastic. I tried so desperately hard to pick actors I haven't heard brought up who can do an amazing job.
First, as always, let's look back and three renditions we got:
Ioan Gruffudd
Tumblr media
I don't have strong feelings about this particular version of the character. He hit the notes he needed to but there really wasn't alot for him or Jessica Alba to do in the film.
Gruffudd did a solid job at playing the straight man, letting Evans and Chiklis play off of him fairly well.
He was also fairly good at playing a realistic nerd. He didn't feel like someone who was on the football team, which other Fantastics lacked. We need someone who can feel believably awkward. More Maguire less Garfield.
Miles Teller
Tumblr media
*sigh* Fan4stic is definitely a movie.
Miles Teller and the cast do what they can with what they were given, but there isn't much for me to dissect here. Teller does a good job with the awkward nerdiness, but he lacks the believable confidence to be a leader. Fantastic should be confident in his intelligence, Teller wasn't there yet.
We need someone who can believably be a leader.
John Krasinski
Tumblr media
I think for what he is given, Krasinski does a solid job at a particular kind of Mr. Fantastic. That is to say, he is a Mr. Fantastic who has done his three movies and has learned the importance of family and connecting with people and taking care of others.
That being said, as a flawed Fantastic, he's boring. Yes he is strong, confident, and feels like a leader, but that's all I'll give him.
So clearly, we don't have a lot to work with as far as definitive versions of the character goes.
What ethnicity is Mr. Fantastic?
Tumblr media
Mr. Fantastic does not have a particular ethnic identity in the comics. There is one piece of comic lure that I think is interesting when discussing Mr. Fantastic, particularly in the MCU.
You see one of Reed Richards descendants is Nathaniel Richards, a time travelling super-genius from the 31st century, wo becomes a supervillain warlord known as..
Tumblr media
Kang the Conqueror.
While his lineage is sometimes questionable, I think this wrinkle puts a potential for people of color playing this role.
However, Kang could be mixed, and with the fact Mr. Fantastic isn't really any particular ethnicity, I think casting anyone is okay.
Other Stipulations
Tumblr media
Mr. Fantastic may be one of the major leads of the MCU moving forward. We are casting the main enemy of Galactus, Doctor Doom, and maybe even Kang. We are looking for a Downey or Evans, someone great.
As the leader of the Fantastic Four, we need someone who can believably be the smartest person in the room. With his powers, his intelligence, and his borderline madness when it comes to science, Mr. Fantastic should feel like a threat to someone like Doom.
I'm looking for someone in their mid 30s to mid 40s. He needs to feel older than Johnny but young enough to keep this going for awhile.
We need someone confident who could lead the team but can be a little awkward to be around. Almost Batman like.
I'd like taller and lanky as far as look goes, and if they can grow a nice beard that's a plus. Any ethnicity is good.
As always, I'm looking for someone who hasn't played a major superhero role.
Let's get into it:
3. Dev Patel
Tumblr media
Kicking off our list with the safest choice, Dev Patel is one of those actors you're surprised isn't already a superhero. From roles in the Green Knight, Slumdog Millionaire, and Modern Love, Patel is a fan favorite actor with range to compete with the big names. At 33, He is the youngest person on my list and most qualified for the job.
He has played intelligent in roles like in Chappie, has done dangerous in the Green Knight, and villains in roles like Zuko (sorry I had to bring up The Last Airbender).
Tumblr media
My worry with Patel is he may be a little too likeable. I want a character we can warm up to, which is hard balance. He also seems like an actor who could potentially be great as a different character. Maybe even Doctor Doom.
I definitely think he has the chops and the potential to be a great lead, not just for the Fantastic Four but the MCU.
2. Zachary Quinto
Tumblr media
When casting in Sci-Fi, it's always good to cast someone who has pull in nerd circles.
Known for roles in Star Trek, Heroes, American Horror Story and Invincible, Zachary Quinto is always a treat to watch.
He was originally my top choice to play Doctor Strange in the MCU, but I think for those same reasons, he could do an excellent Mr. Fantastic.
Tumblr media
Zachary Quinto is great at playing characters just a little off from human. Spock is a great example of this, but I'd look closer at Robot from Invincible. He displays real emotion through a robotic voice throughout the show, and quickly became my favorite character. I think bringing a little humanity to Reed can help us follow and grow with him as the movies progress.
Tumblr media
Quinto also has a solid background in playing villains. He has voiced Lex Luthor, and even played a superpowered serial killer, Sylar, in the hit NBC series Heroes. I think having someone who can play a villain be beneficial to Reed, as he often feels closer to a villain than a hero.
Tumblr media
My biggest concern with Quinto is age. At 46, he feels a bit older than I would prefer. Not that that should be a problem, but a younger Reed we can see grow into Mr. Fantastic is preferred.
Quinto also isn't typically a leading man. I'm not sure if I can see him leading the MCU in the same way I see Patel.
I think it would be a curveball pick that fans could get behind and end up loving.
1. Jerrod Carmichael
Tumblr media
If I had a nickel for every time I casted a comedian known for stand-up over acting as my leading man, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
Jerrod Carmichael is one of my favorite comedians and writers working today. Known for his stand-up specials, the Carmichael show, and smaller roles in The Disaster Artist, Mid90s, and Transformers the Last Knight, Carmichael really came on my radar as an actor and a writer in his amazing movie On the Count of Three.
Also Directed by Carmichael, the film centers around two friends who decide they want to kill themselves after one last day of righting wrongs and tying up loose ends. It's an incredibly bleak, well acted, and at times funny movie, full of sadness and pain.
Tumblr media
In the film Carmichael taps into a sadness and alienation I think would be perfect for Reed. In the film, he feels dangerous and alone.
We also known Jerrod can do comedy and likeable, which could eventually translate to a more balanced Reed Richards.
He also has a talent for writing. His stand-up special Rothaniel won him an Emmy in 2022. Imagine what he could do with Fantastic Four Screenplay.
Carmichael will also be starring in Poor Things, a new movie starring Emma Stone which appears to be getting buzz. Clearly he is expanding his acting portfolio, and the MCU is a great place to start.
Tumblr media
I think if you want a surprise pick who can act, direct, do comedy, and write, Carmichael feels like the choice that would get people talking. I think he is the type of artist who should be leading big things like the MCU, and would look damn good wearing the 4 on his chest.

Funniest Moments from the Golden Globes
Humor can’t always be scripted...
This year was the 80th annual Golden Globes and it was hosted by comedian and actor Jerrod Carmichael. As always, there were moments everyone slept through, but there were plenty of hilarious ones as well this year. At last year’s Oscars history was made when Will Smith walked onto the stage and slapped host, Chris Rock, for talking badly about his wife Jada Pickett Smith. Over the past year,…

TRAVIS FIMMEL
Tumblr media
Girl's Gotta Eat
There are paths seen and unseen. There are paths taken. There are the Midwestern housewives who sit at home, who formerly popped bennies and ran topless through every jam band show at the local amphitheater. There are the vagrant, longhaired transients who receive stares as they push their cart of nothings around sweaty Southern towns, that formerly received stares only because they were professing at the front of a philosophy class. There are the attention-deficit young men, oft chastised for their inability to focus, but given open creativity, become playwrights and screenwriters. There are the balladeers. There are the celebrities. There is the you. There is the me. And there is Travis Fimmel, sitting in a hotel room in Vancouver, freezing his balls off. His is a story of barefooted farm boy turned bare-bodied model turned actor.
“It’s bloody cold,” he says in a relaxed Australian drawl. Of course it is. Fimmel grew up helping out on the family farm in a small town on the fork of two rivers in the middle of sunburnt Australia. He’s currently in the benumbed west Canadian port city filming Duncan Jones’ Warcraft: a film of epic proportion and expectation. But despite the video game-based spin-off, one gets the feeling Fimmel is the kind of lad who would much rather be chopping wood than mashing plastic buttons on a gaming controller. “I’d never heard of it,” he freely admits.
The path begins. When I ask about his early foray into Australian-rules football, he concedes what stymied the course, “Yeah but I sucked at it, man, I was very bad.” And thus he skipped the sporting life and tried college, “I didn’t pass any classes becauseI didn’t end up showing up—I was doing project managing for construction, like a foreman. Architecture and commerce [was the] main part of the course, I didn’t really want to go to college, I was just trying to fill in time…but then I ended up going overseas.” Fimmel wasn’t meant to be a paper-pushing desk jockey; just as Paul fucking Newman wasn’t meant to sling charred chicory at nine-to-fivers. With those baby blues and gilded locks it wasn’t long before Fimmel was modeling, most notably for Calvin Klein and most times wearing not a stitch. Previously Fimmel has played down his years of modeling, crediting favorable lighting, advanced cameras, and Photoshop for his looks and success. In fact, it’s speculated—and blatantly obvious upon viewing—that Fimmel was the inspiration behind Samantha’s washed-out brick-bod lover—“Jerry” Smith Jerrod—on Sex and the City.
The path winds. “Wound up in L.A., got into an acting class and then that’s where I started acting. I had no idea, never wanted to do this stuff, still don’t really want to do it, mate,” he admits. Fimmel is even-keeled, he exudes a thoughtless vibe, and as much as Fimmel plays it all down, one even has to question how hard he worked to get to his current status. Sometimes his nonchalant nature can come off as arrogant, and it’s easy to imagine he’s often misunderstood, but couldn’t care less; he’s just riding the wave. At first, Fimmel took jobs everyone in Hollywood thought would pay dividends but floundered [see: WB’s Tarzan] until he grew a beard and started swinging an axe. Ah, the farm boy swinging the axe again. It’s in History Channel’s Vikings that Fimmel found his niche, receiving acclaim for his portrayal of the contemplative but merciless, Ragnar Lothbrok, a deep-thinking maniac from Viking Age Europe. There is a swagger to his character that is maintained somewhere within Fimmel. When I ask about his association with Ragnar, he states, “Every guy that I know that fights is always the quietest guy in the room; I just try to think more than talk. You’ll always learn more by listening rather than being the loudest guy in the room. And whatever you do, you do because you enjoy it, so I try to make my character enjoy fighting.”
The path straightens. And so we find ourselves back in that Vancouver hotel room, freezing our balls off with Fimmel, as he’s in the midst of shooting the biggest film of his career. With all the aloofness Fimmel radiates, it piques one’s interest to know what he really is passionate about: “Farming, mate. That’s whatI want to do. I love the country. It’s hard to explain. When you grow up in the country you just enjoy it so much. I love animals and I love trees and anything country.”
And, lastly, that beard that’s quickly becoming his trademark: “It just grew I guess, I couldn’t for ages. I would have loved to grow one when I was a kid, I would have loved to have gone to prom and school and shit with a beard.”
Nothing to do with shedding the barefaced image of your Calvin Klein days? “[Audibly scoffs] Shit. I couldn’t grow one then. Otherwise I would have had one.”
That would have been a different path.

I was thinking like 23-25 especially because he just turned 21! I don’t really know what gives me that vibe but like something about him being the youngest brother and having that kind of shy/but still confident thing going for him just screams older girl and I also feel like he’d be so proud of himself
Yeah! Luke having a Samantha Jones X Smith Jerrod type age gap doesn't work for me but I could totally see him with a girl SIMILAR to Samantha Jones (in her confidence and such, not necessarily her. Uh. Abilities?) and Luke would LOVE her!

Rank your top 5 Sex and the City love interests?
Harry Goldenblatt. Harry has been my absolute #1 since the beginning. He's funny, he's devoted, he's laid back. It's no wonder Charlotte could finally relax and be herself with him. He's just that kind of guy.
Aidan Shaw. Look, Aidan would have been my choice. He's a genuinely good guy, a relationship guy, someone that I feel like it would be easy to relax with. Are we seeing what I would value in a relationship? Comfort and security. Aidan is that guy.
Steve Brady. Apart from some truly unfortunate fidelity issues, I feel like Steve is such a solid partner if you're on the same page with him.
Smith Jerrod. Smith was a great boyfriend. He handled a lot of Samantha's relationship growing pains with more grace than she might have deserved. He had no ego about letting her lead him in his career or, honestly, sexually. I like that in a man.
Robert Leeds. Does he move too fast? Sure. But he's also suave, confident, and, objectively, probably the sexiest love interest that was ever on the show.

Mortal Kombat Oc Headcanons lets go (why am I calling this headcanons, I control their canon)
-Seraphina and Tomas are the two most stealthiest of the Lin Kuei/Shirai Ryu and definitely used it to play pranks when they were younger
-absolute hide and seek champions
-Yumi was a surprise baby, as Sindel and Jerrod decided they were done after Kitana and Mileena were born
-she was also a very sickly child, making her much shorter and weaker than her sisters as children, so she hit her growth spurt much later than they did
-Claudia secretly kept a Photo Booth picture of she and Johnny as kids when they were still estranged, she still has it
-Long Fei and Ai Xue (parents to the Lin Kuei bros+sis) were an arranged marriage
-Long Fei’s side of the family has a long history of elemental magic, mainly fire and earth, he was arranged to married Ai Xue due to her family history of ice magic
-Min Le first showed signs of earth magic when she was only six and threw a tantrum, where her stomping started a small earthquake and dislodged the ground around her
-Yumi was left on her own as a kid sometimes, which is why she started studying earthrealm, mainly mythology of different cultures
-Claudia has a black belt in taekwondo, she got it during college mainly for self defense and just because she could
-Yumi is infuriated whenever no one believes her and Mileena that Kitana was an absolute little shit as a child
-as a kid, Seraphina took great pleasure in startling Bi Han, which is a good part of how she got so stealthy in the first place
-Seraphina’s native language is that of Madinatan, which is similar to arabic. Since she hasn’t had a need to speak it living on earth, she’s very rusty
-Min Le is a picky eater
-unless it comes to a mission, Seraphina normally can’t sit still, she always needs to be moving
-Claudia gets Seraphina some hair care products sometimes because Seraphina’s hair is so thick and curly and being a shirai ryu probably doesn’t have a salary
-Claudia and Johnny will both use the phrase “it smells like it’s gonna rain”, full on exposing themselves as midwesterners and everyone else being MAD confused
-Seraphina and Min Le eventually learn some Czech so they can both talk to Tomas in his native language
-bonus! edenians can’t get drunk off of human alcohol and to humans, Outworld alcohol is EXTREMELY strong
-Drunk Seraphina is really sappy and laughs at everything, drunk Claudia cries over anything and drunk Yumi is just brutally honest
-Seraphina normally sleeps in oversized shirts+shorts
-Min Le is a serial clothing thief, that includes her brothers and Seraphina and she can somehow pull the fit off every time
-Claudia loves puppy chow (it’s basically just Chex mix but way better)
-unbeknownst to most people, Claudia actually is a big foodie. She will try almost anything
-Johnny introduced Yumi to earthrealm music and she actually really loves a lot of 2000’s pop
-some of her favorite songs include Maneater and Promiscuous Girl by Nelly Furtado, Can’t Get You Out Of My Head by Kylie Minogue, Irreplaceable and Single Ladies by Beyoncé and Poker face by Lady Gaga
-Seraphina is a secret Rihanna stan
-Claudia also enjoys some of 2000’s pop but also loves Kali Uchis
-Min Le loves artists like Kate Bush, The Smiths, Conan Grey, some occasional k-pop and j-pop and also classical
-Seraphina does not like Nitara (for obvious reasons) like many others but has explicit beef with her solely based on the fact that Nitara thought her blood magic superior to water magic and Seraphina just went “bet” and is currently trying to learn how to bend blood
-out of all of my girls, Seraphina is the most hot headed. You get this woman mad, all hell breaks loose. She also can be hella petty too
-on the opposite end of the spectrum, it takes a lot to get Min Le truly angry, mostly because she takes a lot of unjust shit thrown at her but the one thing she will not take is someone underestimating her skills in combat
-when Yumi was born, Kitana and Mileena were NOT happy that they had another sibling, they were very mean towards her for awhile
