Rajya Sabha has cleared the bill for making changes to the traffic rules and there are a lot of proposed changes. The new rules will help bring in a discipline environment in the country, put a full stop to corruption, and ensure the safety of citizens on road.The transport ministry has issue a notification on August 28, 2019 listing out all the laws that have come into effect from September 1, 2019. Here is a list of the important new motor vehicle laws that are coming into effect from 1st September.

Here are some list of the important new motor vehicle laws that everyone must be aware.

1. Driving Without Helmet

Wearing a helmet is most compulsory and is a good safety precaution in India, and those found not wearing helmet  will be imposed with a fine of Rs. 1000, and their driving license will be disqualified for three months. Make sure you should wear a helmet the next time you are driving some where!

2. Driving Under Influence / Drunk Driving

The previous rules stated that if a person is found drunk driving, he will be charged with an Rs. 2000 fine, but the new rules has been changed the fine to be Rs. 10,000.

3. Driving Without License

If someone found driving without a license, then driver will be liable to pay Rs. 10,000 as a fine, which was only Rs. 500 previously.

4. Driving Without Seat belt

Driving without a seat-belt on is an extremely dangerous risk, and if you are found driving without a seat-belt, then you will be charged a fine of Rs. 1000, instead of the previous Rs. 100.

5. Not Giving Way For Emergency Vehicles

It is a common sense to give way for emergency vehicles, such as the ambulance or the fire brigade, but there are some people who might think it not as important. A new rule has been put in place for such kinds of people, and the fine that will be imposed on such drivers is Rs. 10,000.

6. Overloading Two Wheelers

If you are riding a two-wheeler along with two other peoples, this is called overloading of two-wheelers, and it will impact on you pocket. The fine for this is Rs. 2000. & also your license will be disqualified for three months.

7. Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims

The Government is working on making provisions for cashless treatment of road accident victims during the ‘golden hour’, which is the crucial one hour after an injury where the only possibility of avoiding death is by medical care &  Also the  people who come to the aide of the victim will not be harassed.

8. Offenses By Juvenile

As new rule has been introduced that will find the guardian or the owner guilty if an offense is committed by a juvenile. They will be charge a fine of Rs. 25000 and three years of imprisonment & the registration of the motor vehicle will be canceled,and the juvenile will be tried under the JJ act.

9. Overspeeding

If a person is found driving at a speed that exceeds the speed limit, he will be imposed with a fine of Rs. 1000 for an LMV (Light Motor Vehicle), and Rs. 2000 for a medium passenger vehicle.
