The Monk Skin Tone Scale is an open-source, 10-shade scale describing human skin color, developed by Ellis Monk in partnership with Google. It is meant to replace the Fitzpatrick scale in fields such as computer vision research, after an IEEE study found the Fitzpatrick scale to be "poorly predictive of skin tone" and advised it "not be used as such in evaluations of computer vision applications."In particular, the Fitzpatrick scale was found to under-represent darker shades of skin relative to the global human population.

I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST MY FAMILY THAT OBSESSED OVER SKIN COLOR!!! im half american (irish american but i am far less engaged with my irish heritage and was raised in a greek pride way by my mom and my father didnt have much to say about ireland other than the experience of my lineages struggle as irishbostonians) and my family makes a ton of fun of me for being white and my mom is particularly pale (darker for white americans but whatever) and its always been an insecurity of mine!! especially because in the states my pale but greenish undertone has been mentioned too. being greek american is weird.

Welcome to the family of Olive Skin Undertone and the Annoying Judgements!! (because "olive" is a greenish-yellowish-greyish undertone in actuality. Pale and dark people can have this undertone, but they have a hard time identifying it)

I didn't know the judgement was so global and you can't escape from it. If it becomes an insecurity from comments from one country, like for many pale Greeks here, imagine the multiple ones 😅 Emoootional Damaaage

Greek people are not very subtle in their judgment of pale skin tone which I find the weirdest because half of Greece is relatively pale and doesn't tan xD Βάζουμε τα χεράκια μας να βγάλουμε τα ματάκια μας δηλαδή

Ya know what, since you know you have olive skin, dress in gold jewellery, with vibrant and dark colors and dazzle everyone. (I think there are color guides online, they really make a difference) And if you want to scare people on Halloween wear yellow or grey or ciel clothes 😂 Use your powers wisely!

Hey, after finishing Small's portrait, I decided to do a little face painting practice, to improve my proportions, and better understand how to paint and shade the face. After seeing several references and inspirations, I realized that there are parts where you will always see shadow and help to give volume, like around the eyes, under the lips, the nose, and some shadows on the forehead, I know it looks obvious, but from someone who draws humans once a year it's pretty new   I also tried to paint different skin tones, I've heard that painting dark skin is the hardest, so I wanted to try that it, I saw a video that used red and purple as shading, I rather tried to use orange, red and green, I think It looks good, but tell me what you think   Rendering the light skin was easier as I have more practice with it, except for the albino girl, it was a bit tricky as I really couldn't really make out the shadows well when painting ^^" it was quite interesting to see different tones of skin, and see what technique and color was better to shade Also, sorry if the lips and noses look weird, it's very difficult, it's too different from painting lips and noses of animals, their shape and shading are hard to paint (T-T) Any kind of critique and feedback is welcome ^^

This is the template I started using:

I usually have at least a base layer of blush set to multiply, at 15% opacity, and for active blushes I'll often stack a layer at higher opacity, with more focused coverage, over the broad-brush blush.

For lips, what I've started doing may take me up to three layers. The bottom layer has the template lip color at 25% opacity, next being lips+multiply at 50% opacity-- these also work on paler characters, by the way. The third layer, if applicable, is for the upper lip and edges of the lower lip, and that color I get by sampling the skintone on multiply over itself. Here's what it looks like layer-by-layer:
