It STILL upsets me to no end that Netflix cancelled the BEST part of the Dark Crystal Series tbh. Like, they left it off on the LITERAL beginning of the Garthim Wars and god DAMN it infuriates me that we can’t see some good ole Gelfling genocide. Like… how they were all wiped out so quickly. And I can’t remember how many years it took for a complete genocide and I think it was like 20+ years or something but anyway…

Even through the genocidal emperor he is; he’s still my lover and I wish I could simp over him more and more had they made more episodes. Just his raspy tone, how the crystals effect his sanity and just… show how much into bloody madness he went into.

Cause all I think about it just SkekSo during that time Being incredibly possessive and barely allowing Mika to leave the castle as he’s murdering and sucking the life force out of the Gelfling and poor Mika doesn’t even realize it till it’s too late. 😭

Btw I completely forgot about SkekEer the Spy Master, the 19th Skeksis who appeared just once in the manga of the old canon got retconned since there were just 18, and only remembered now he exists in the Natives AU as a kid (and future Spy Master one day) as one of SkekSil and SkekUng's grandchildren

Tony seems to be a perfect archetype of a Tumblr sexyman, and is in fact one of the originals: villainous, theatrical, put-together, with limbs like overcooked noodles. He inspired hundreds of humanizations and a plethora of ship art, a shockingly low percentage of which involved moustaches. Well, it's 2024, and staches are back in fashion. Can Tony return to his former sexy glory?

I've been interested for a while in characters that end up being popular in certain corners of fandom because of the potential they have for being...I'm not sure how to phrase this. So I'm going to go with "Kink Receptacles." These characters may be part of any number of thematically/emotionally resonant ships (and usually are) but in the totality of fic that features them, it's VERY obvious that some of their appeal is that there's a perception that they can plausibly be written/drawn taking part and enjoying a wide variety of kinks.

Does this make sense?

Here are some examples of Kink Receptacles in my opinion:

Loki (Marvel Cinematic Universe) - Magic. Morally questionable at best. For nerds, whatever's going on with Sleipnir and also the Þrymskviða.

The actual focus is Pitch Black (Rise of the Guardians) here but I personally felt including Sandy was kind of important for this. They worked as a pair for the weirder stuff. Anyway, Pitch Black. He's shirtless. Has a British accent. Weird and undefined nightmare powers. He's probably already in your bedroom, under your bed.

Venom (Venom 2018) - Is there anything this alien slime can't do? Well. No, actually. That's the appeal.

Crowley (Good Omens) - I'm using an image from the show but I was reading fic before the show came out and let me tell you, the fact that he's sometimes a snake and "can do really weird things with his tongue" was all that was needed.

The Skeksis, collectively (Dark Crystal) - Yes the ancient evil gross (hedonistic) vulture creatures. No I'm not kidding. Do with this knowledge what you will.

Anyway, I would love to know about other fandoms' Kink Receptacle characters, maybe we can come up with some sort of theory or at least have fun screaming when it's weird.

Captain K. P. Hob x Delloso de la Rue (Hobrue) - Dimension 20, season 15: A Court of Fey and Flowers

Starts out as a star-crossed, Beauty-and-the-Beast-style romance between a very animalistic, awkwardly formal, military man—well, goblin (Captain Hob) and a very elfen-esque Master of Ceremonies (Rue), who’s busy with the job of hosting the huge, politically important party they just put together, and is also technically a member of another royal court. SPOILERS: Turns out Rue is an owlbear under their glamour, aka just as massive and animalistic as Hob. Both of them really love the other’s body specifically because it looks like theirs rather than fitting in with the traditional fey standards of beauty, so they’re lowkey serving t4t-vibes, despite existing in a setting where there are zero social expectations around gender. Technically they’d be a monster x monster pairing no matter what, as they’re both fey, but the fact that they both stick out even among the extreme visual variety of the fey people, and very much feel the weight of that exclusion, really makes them a monster x monster pairing in spirit too.

SkekGra X UrGoh (GraGoh) - The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance

They literally are each other's halves. No really. They used to b a whole being named GraGoh and split as two separate beings and now want to be joined into one again. So in the meantime they live together like an old married couple. Bickering and trolling, taking drugs, with the same passion for theatre and puppetry, going against their species' philosophies to be joined again (SkekGra is the only Skeksis in the whole franchise to have redeemed himself and live like an UrRu alongside UrGoh and was banished for that, and said Urgoh does not exactly follows the Mystic way either). They even have a rock gollem son. They long for each other and seem to want to hug and their one goal is to essentially hug further forever
