Day 3 - Victorian Times/Confession for @jonmartinweek!

late but better than never lol, im not used to drawing so much! i ended up with bad wrist pain and couldn't finish this last night

anyway thought of a gothic horror victorian au - jon is the newly appointed housekeeper for the Magnus estate (succeeding the late gertrude who died under mysterious circumstances, so he's not entirely qualified to be organizing the estate's finances and directing staff but alas here we are). martin is newly hired gardener who tracks mud into the freshly cleaned house on his first day 😬 but when he's not ruining the estate, jon finds him oddly charming - and when he's not getting yelled at, martin finds the housekeeper is far nicer than he's letting on 🤭 cue the loathing at turning into pining from afar, brushing hands, and then touching without gloves on??!! also them on a gender journey together is so important to me

romance aside (lol) it would be kind of a mix of Haunting of Bly Manor meets Dracula meets Crimson Peak in terms of horror - i think it'd be fun to translate TMA into a victorian estate (like how it's kind of creepy that no one has ever met Magnus himself huh 👀)

When you started working at Bly Manor, you hadn’t intended to have a role in raising the two children, having initially been hired as a cleaner but after what had happened to Rebecca, you had ended up working as their temporary au pair until the new one could be hired. You split your time cleaning the home and caring for the children, the gardener Jamie having even assisting you with some of your chores, rather than trailing mud throughout the halls as she normally did. You quickly realised the only reason she helped out was to spend time with you, but you weren’t mad, you were fond of her and had spent the previous eighteen months that you had been working together shamelessly flirting without ever admitting to your feelings.

The flirting continued between the two of you until the new au pair was hired. You instantly hit it off with Dani as you worked closely with her to introduce her to her role in the two kid’s life and helping her find her feet in a new country, home and job all wrapped into one. You didn’t mean to distance yourself from Jamie, nor did you have any interest in Dani but you had spent a lot of time with the American, to the Brit’s dismay. Jamie had been watching the interactions between you two, how often you spent time together and how you laughed and smiled at nearly every comment from Dani’s mouth. Although she had no reason to be jealous, you weren’t in a relationship, she couldn’t help but be pained by seeing you growing closer with another woman. She hated how she felt but it was what she needed to finally tell you what she felt for you.

When Jamie saw you wave off Dani on her walk with the two children, she stopped you before you could return to the house.

“What’s going on with you two?” She asked, not starting with a greeting, just throwing the question straight at you.

“Pardon?” You frowned, not even certain what she was referring to.

“You and her,” she said gesturing off in the direction that Dani was walking away in. “Since she arrived, you’ve barely even spoken to me.”

You raised an eyebrow at her. “I’ve just been helping her get used to living here, I’m sorry if you feel like I’ve not been spending time with you.”

Jamie’s frustration overwhelmed her as both hands knitted into her own messy brown hair to try and gain some form of release.

“God Y/N,” she said through gritted teeth, trying to stop herself from screaming. “I really fucking like you.”

You didn’t know what to say. Since you met Jamie, you had liked her but you never wanted to make things awkward by admitting how you felt as you didn’t think she could ever feel the same; but here she was telling you that she did care for you.

“Why didn’t you say anything?” You said in nearly a whisper.

“I didn’t want to ruin everything,” she sighed, her hands falling limp to her side.

You stepped forward, with all the confidence you could muster to rest a hand to her reddened cheek.

“So did I,” you smiled softly, closing the last gap between you to press your lips to hers, finally.

fic writer interview

Thanks for the tag @katierosefun! Took me a minute to finish this and post but.....

Name/nickname: kasey!

Fandoms: I feel like I tend to be on the fringes of fandom for most media lol, with Star Wars being the only one I've really been active in. But I guess the ones floating around in my brain most often are bly manor/hill house and Star Trek tng?

Two shots? I don't actually know if I have any, except if you count Room to Grow and A Moment and A Memory which were connected (completely forgot the titles of both of those for a sec, wow).

Most-popular multi-chapter fic: as far as subscriptions and kudos it's probably bloodlines, my fic about Dooku, Obi-Wan and Anakin getting stranded together. But more recently Rhapsody and Blue, my orchestra au, has gotten some lovely attention, which is nice bc that one's definitely closer to my heart!

Actual worst part of writing: "oh god that's a huge plot hole"

How you choose your titles: I usually try first for a theme from the fic that can be summed up in a word or two, but after that I pick from song lyrics or poems lol

Do you outline? Yes, usually! Or I at least come up with a plan. I have to outline for longer projects or I'll forget where I was going and run out of steam. For shorter ones, I usually try to at least have a beginning, middle, and end thought out from the beginning, even if they're not fleshed put! Doing that just keeps me from hitting a wall and fizzling out when I get stuck, bc I at least know what's supposed to come next.

Ideas you probably won't get around to, but wouldn't it be nice: hmm, I like to think I'll eventually get around to everything I want to? But there's definitely a handful of ideas I've started only to put them on the back burner—I was thinking about a sequel to Rhapsody in Blue for a while, but i just had a hard time deciding what the conflict in that story would be since Palpatine is dead lol. But I'm not saying I won't get to it, because I still might!

Callouts @ me: how—many times—can you put an em-dash in one paragraph—also you write about the same themes over and over again—

Best writing traits: Hmm, I think one of the things I've gotten good at over the years is structuring a scene/structuring a longer plot. It's something I think was hard to learn, like as far as pacing and the balance between dialogue and action, and how to weave multiple plot lines into something that feels cohesive. Reading my old writing vs recent stuff, that's just been something I've noticed!

Spicy tangential opinion: the whole "only queer people can write queer stories" idea hurts people who are closeted or questioning more than it protects anyone, and no one owes you any piece of information about their identity to justify their writing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I assume you’re talking about either Bechloe or the Bellas but a crossover of my dreams would be PP and HSM because HSM is what got me into writing in the first place and the themes are similar.

Now if you mean Bechloe, I think a crossover au I’d like to see would be between them and Damie (Jamie + Dani from The Haunting of Bly Manor) because Damie is simply so beautiful! I’d have to either change the timeline, because Damie met in 1987 but since it’s my AU I’d have the four women exist simultaneously 🙌🏼🥰

August 1988 – Revenge, Vermont, US

Ed stopped just short of the door to the florists shop, taking a moment to peer inside the front window at the blonde man working inside. Stede was leaning against the counter, animatedly speaking to an older man standing opposite him. Ed recognized the man – he owned the small antique shop two blocks over, one which Ed and Stede had begun frequenting more often now that they’d finally settled in an apartment in town. 

And settled they had. 

They’d also taken out a lease on this little floral shop just begging to be opened in this picturesque New England hamlet, the last missing piece in the Main Street lineup of vintage jewelers, bakeries, and antique shops. Revenge, Vermont was the last place on earth Ed had expected them to settle, but the two of them had been lured in with its charm, and here Stede was the most relaxed he’d been in months. 

It was easy, unnervingly so, to start building their lives around each other in this quaint little town, picking out furniture and wallpaper together as if they’d been together for years, not months. Yet it felt like it’d been a lifetime, already, with Stede, and Ed found himself falling more and more in love with him every day. A realization which had been consuming him since it first hit him, unable to bring himself to say it outloud in worry that it would be too much for Stede, that he’d finally get sick of him and leave.

then come the other half of the aus where they’re childhood friends and it’s like. yeah no it’s totally normal for friends to have napped together since they were in middle school, all bc chrysi got nightmares when she slept on her own. it’s totally normal that jacks kisses chrysi regularly. friends do that, esp when one friend is immune to the curse. and then jacks has the gall to be shocked when ppl call him out for being in love w chrysi. okay, darling, don’t worry your pretty little head over that.

misc chryzure thoughts are fkskgkskcjsjzkjfkkdkckfjwksmcnekzmdndns……. like??!!? sticking a fork into the wall outlet rn because i am sooo!!! jst down to the simple day to day domestic life, it’s so clear how much they love each other…. they’re comfy w preparing each other toast and teasing each other for the way they like their tea and they’re both teasingly mad when the cat picks one of them over the other.

and then the whole reincarnation curse makes me go insane go wild. the number of lives they hold, where they loved each other unabashedly and wholly, only for them to die tragically? and the fact that both chrysi and azure have started to look forward to their next life, because the agony will stop, for just a little while… they get to be happy for a fraction of time in each of their lives, and that’s enough. that has to be enough. oh, the agonies…

Alternative title: Arachno tortures themselves with a verse that makes them write two characters at once in threads.

🌿 This verse is primarily set in main so 29+ Thistle. BUT, per request, I can tack this on to any other au verse as well (younger verse, werewolf, apoc, dbd, etc.) This is either a standalone au verse or a fun little addition to slap alongside other aus.

🌿 Premise is simple, Thistle wakes up one day and suddenly he's being haunted by his sister's ghost. Hijinks ensue.

🌿 Neither knows why, especially this late in the game with a little over a decade having passed since her death. Jesse is pretty chill with just kicking it and Thistle has complex feelings-— being happy his sister is back in some form and distressed because she should be moving on and he has no clue how to help with that. Also being haunted on top of everything else going on is kind of a lot.

🌿 Spoiler alert this happened because Thistle got yeeted into the world of the supernatural and it set off some domino effect. Extra, extra spoiler uh oh Jesse and Thistle came from a witch family and Jesse inherited the majority of it and Thistle has more familiar properties than anything and he's sort of maybe possibly a spiritual anchor she's latched onto. :)

🌿 They'll most always be in the same vicinity. Jesse can manifest away from Thistle for infrequent and short periods. She seems to be able to solo manifest for a little longer if she ends up in the company of other witches, mediums, etc. These types of characters are also the only ones that can see her at all. Otherwise, Thistle will have to play begrudging translator.

🌿 When Jesse isn't on her own somewhere or with Thistle, she's typically in her ghost loop. Something pretty similar to what Bly Manor does with ghosts. It takes a lot of focus not to fall into it and she's very scattered and distant for awhile when she pulls herself back out. It's why she prefers to stick around Thistle or other spiritually grounding individuals.
