Ok some of these sketches are icky looking but I made a reference sheet in the corner to make up for it.

So this is my redesign version of Gyutaro , so I created this awhile back because my bro wanted to make his own version of kny and he wanted me to redesign all the upper moons, so besides Gyutaro I have other demons.

Ok so my main source of inspiration was a wendigo because it just makes sense, they are the embodiment of selfishness he’s a very selfish person, so yeah, oh I decided all the upper moons have this more demonic look form where they look monstrous, hence the skeleton head .To be honest I like Gyutaro’s old design a lot but I like the idea of him being more demonic looking. And before saying anything he has a deer tail , oh and his species of deer is the sika deer.

I took inspiration from these other artists I saw so credit goes to them. I’m not sure who made the originals but when I saw them a light bulb turned on.

The final draft here def isnt her final look, i still dont quite like the all dark color outfit 🤔

Shes a sika deer btw, the orange deer will be her half sister.

I like Alastor's designs that include more deer details, but I've noticed that I'm not thinking on the same deer as the rest or something? Or that everyone uses the same base and ideas, but which are not necessarily correct? (I write this just to talk about deer, everybody can draw him as they want without having to take into consideration real biology, just have fun <3)

I guess most people are using the white-tailed deer, right?

(I love that in most of the photos, deers are looking at the camera; it's not surprising that Alastor knows when Vox is watching him).

It is, after all, an American species. And people tend to draw him with a tail with white details, so I guess we're going this way. But a few details:

I have seen that it has become very popular to put a lot of fur on his chest and I really want to know who started that?? Because yes, there are deer that have a lot of it, but it's usually on the neck. And as far as I remember right now it's another species, Canadian maybe? (I'm not that well versed in the species on the other side of the pond, sorry, but it sounds like a thing for a colder region). For me, the fact that he has a broad chest is because that's the way the designs of the series are, but in his case it's also because the deer are built like way lol

I am guilty of this too, but normally deer have their tails down when they are relaxed. If it is up, they are alerted, signalling danger to others.

Which would make sense with him, because I imagine he lives on constant guard, but don't be afraid to make his tail relaxed once in a while. Also, I don't think he would be happy to show the white part, because it could be interpreted as him seeing you as a danger.

Okay, I admit it, I love it when people draw dots on Alastor's fur or like freckles. That said… Only fawns have that. It's adorable, but I feel like he'd die of embarrassment if he had those marks and would hide them.

He was still a man in his late thirties or early forties when he died, if I remember correctly from the file they found with information for auditions while they were looking for actors? Just as I feel his human designs look too young (please, someone add laugh lines and wrinkles on him; in Hell he clearly looks younger (not a rare thing according to Helluva Boss), but I guess he pursued his hobby as an older man too), the dots on his fur make me think of him as a child orz

There are some species that do have spots when they are older, such as fallow deer (different antler shape) or sika deer, but they live in other parts of the world.

A lot of redesigns I see give him more elaborate and bigger antlers, because deer have them like that, don't they?

Can I offer you the roe deer in these difficult times?

Wrong continent? Yes. Beautiful antlers just like he has when he's not in his demonic form? YES. Also, red fur.

And the detail that makes me laugh the most, in the debate of whether Alastor has a tail or not, roe deer have super small tails, so in this case the anatomically correct answer would be no lol

Wrong part of the world too, as it lives in Latin America, but I simply love the marsh deer.

Beautiful species in a vulnerable state of conservation :( But every time I draw Alastor's arms and legs with black fur, they always come to my mind. It's literally what happens to these deer. And they have a beautiful reddish colour.

But then again, these are just ramblings. Thank you for reading this far. I just really like deer lol It's always a magical experience when I travel to Cazorla and I come across them in the forest.

Deercember Day Eight: Nara Park Sika Deer | Picnic

The Sika Deer of Nara Park (Cervus nippon) are allowed to roam freely throughout its grounds, though the males' antlers are trimmed annually to reduce injuries. Sika deer are native to much of East Asia and have been introduced to other parts of the world. Previously found from northern Vietnam in the south to the Russian Far East in the north, it is now an uncommon species that has been extirpated in most areas of its native range, except in Japan, where it is overabundant and present in very large numbers. According to local folklore, sika deer from the area around modern day Nara Park were considered sacred due to a visit from a god. After World War II, the deer were officially stripped of their sacred status, and were instead designated as natural monument (天然記念物 Tennen kinenbutsu) and are protected as such. Today, visitors can purchase "deer-crackers" (鹿煎餅 Shika-senbei) to feed the deer in the park. Despite being a much beloved feature of the area and a considerable tourism draw, in 2016, a record number of 121 people were injured by the deer, and at least a further 164 people from 2017 to 2018. In April 2018, Nara city set up new signs in English, Chinese, and Japanese informing tourists that the deer are wild animals and to not tease them during feeding. that swamp tribe korra au idea sounds g e n i u s

JSAIDOJSAJIODAS THANK YOU ANON!! YOU JUST MADE MY NIGHT!! here, have some more of my thoughts since I've been thinking of this AU non-stop and have been researching a LOT:

Korra's animal guide is still Naga, but I'm changing her species to fit Korra and the Swamp Tribe more! Here's a sketch I made a few days ago of Naga, the Wolverine-Deer!!

Naga's deer side is more inspired by the Sika Deer, since their adults tend to keep their spots! I chose the wolverine rather than the badger because wolverines are typically loner animals that can take down both predators and prey DOUBLE the size of them, which I think fits Korra's character more!

I've also been doodling around with Korra's design a little bit, since I don't think it would be a 1-to-1 copy of her canon design. Still, I haven't been able to settle down on anything just yet - especially since I've been trying to give the Foggy Swamp Tribe more of a culture rather than just being the Water Tribe's hillbilly cousins. I'm trying to combine both Native American tribes that lived in Florida and other wetlands with the obvious Vietnamese inspiration their tribe has! It's...taking me a bit, though, since I am researching multiple things at once while also being A Responsible Adult, skldjaldaja

So far, I'm settling down on these facts for my fic (cause I WILL BE WRITING THIS - SOMEDAY!!):

Senna is from the Foggy Swamp Tribe. Tonraq is still from the NWT. After his banishment, his ship veered off course and ran into the Swamp Tribe's delta, where he met Senna and decided to stay! He's not the chief, however, as I'm thinking that the most enlightened elders of the tribe are the elected leaders (maybe one has to meditate at the Banyan-Grove tree first before leading the FST?), and it is someone else at this current moment in time.

Sokka isn't dead! I headcanon that he died due to injuries in the Red Lotus attack, and..well...I don't think that goes exactly as planned in this AU, sjadkajdlade. Due to this, and thanks to him figuring out first that the water avatar was most likely Swamp Tribe, he has a bit of influence in Korra's life!

(Zukka will be in this btw, since I Love Them, but they won't take priority.)

Korra wasn't taken by the White Lotus when they discovered who she is. The Foggy Swamp Tribe is very protective of their own and who they see as family, loyal down to the bone, and when the White Lotus says that Korra has to go to their Southern Water Tribe facilities to be taught bending, they REFUSED it. I like to think that the family unit and community is INSANELY important to the Foggy Swamp Tribe, and just because Korra is the avatar doesn't mean that she needs to be taken away from her home.

So, basically, Korra grew up with her community and has childhood friends rather than being isolated like in canon! This changes a bit in how she approaches Mako, Bolin, and Asami when she meets up with them eventually. (AKA, fuck the romance triangle, I ain't doing that)

The entire plot of Korra has changed - due to Sokka being alive, Korra's stance on non-benders is different. Due to growing up in the Foggy Swamp Tribe, who teaches the ideals of everything and everyone is connected and that connection is important, Korra also goes about defeating Vaatu differently. Due to Tonraq never making it to the SWT, almost everyone thinks he's dead (mail can't exactly get through tall trees or extremely vicious animals), so Korra never even met Unalaq either...
