how did you get your tv growing up? (if you had multiple houses or technologies, pick the one you most identify with your formative childhood tv experience)
op's formative tv experience was in a rural area with rabbit ears in the 90s, but before 18 i lived in a place with every one of these except satellite. rotary antenna is its own category because i will never forget the day when a friend's family put one in. the sheer power of turning that knob and seeing a wholeass giant roof antenna turning around and then you can pick up the x-files?? fucking religious experience.
#i really did have only one channel and it was abc#i watched an awful lot of World News Tonight With Peter Jennings for a latchkey kid with a tv#we got cable in high school#looking something up for this reminded me about how like 15 years ago the laws changed in the usa#and stations couldn't broadcast analog signals anymore only digital ones#and it was a big thing for people with old tvs to get adapters...#tv#polls

#I had the main psu cable backwards....... I didn't even think you could do that gfdsgsd#and then when I got it to turn ON it wasn't sending a signal to the monitor and I was like COME ONNNNN#but the very first thing i saw was 'make sure the hdmi cable is plugged into the gpu and not the motherboard.' S2E2 Signals
Bow: Look, everyone! I made a new holographic tracker pad! And I found a code in an ancient language that could help us understand the technology littering our planet! Also I am making incredible firearms to battle the Horde!
Bow's Friends: Lol. Look at this dork. You going to defeat Hordak with a water arrow? Doofus. Get a real hobby.
Entrapta: Hi, Hordak! I broke into your lab to steal your tools and saw that you were using uninsulated wiring to power your portal thingy, which is very bad, so I replaced the cables. You won't lose power or die when you touch them now.
Hordak: Holy shit, she's a genius. I need to put her in charge of the entire operation.

Five years of physics at university level and I still don’t understand electricity, electromagnetism and analog or digital sound recording or amplification
#I’m like okay so the human voice makes sound the usual way. Vibrations in the air. Get that. Get how it’s produced how it’s transmitted and#how it is heard by humans. Fine. Then you’re saying they speak into a microphone and those vibrations are converted into varying voltages#and that signal travels through a cable to a sound desk and then travels through another cable to the speakers#Where the voltage signal is converted back into a vibrating thing which is pushing the air and is making sound as we know it#And somehow after all that electricity we’ve now got a faithful reproduction of that human voice but louder now#And then you tell me. You do the first part. But then the signal is sent to a computer and is sampled at a very high rate and the voltages#are converted into 1s and 0s (which are actually also voltages but they’re just binary signals. Like a voltage of 0 or 5mv. That kind of th#And this highly sampled voltage signal which is now represented as 1s and 0s can be written onto a cd or played directly from a computer#And somehow we get that human voice back#I DONT UNDERSTAND IT#how is voltage a sound 😭#And then there’s also magnetic tapes and vinyl records. Which again I get but also it’s coming back to recreating those voltage signals.#Either by a needle moving up and down over spinning grooves#Or something with magnetic tape I don’t know how tapes are actually read#But electricity. I don’t get it.#And with all this I have to worry about electromagnetic fields and impedance and interference because they’re real electrical signals and#come with all the electromag physics of that!

Trying to trouble-shoot a customer over a phone is always an exercise in "stick to Norwegian you gremlin" for me. I so badly want to use English lingo for things, but my poor customers barely understand what I'm saying in Norwegian, let alone English! The amount of times I end up apologising because my explanations are shit are numerous, and most of the time my customers are really nice about it.
Although, I do loathe having to trouble-shoot networking over the phone. It's a pain in the ass, and it's difficult to find the problem when there are so many moving parts to a network.
At least the customer and I can joke around a little and make the process more pleasant for the both of us. Especially when the problem may have been a wonky cable, and not something much more expensive that must be replaced.
#text_loke#he was really nice to me. we were talking SO LONG and i had to use hand signals to my coworker so he could take the physical customers#because i was on the phone. and for some reasons customers see me standing there with a headset on and assume i am therefore free#no!! i am on the phone!! i cannot talk to you ma'am please stop attempting to converse with me!!#some are nice about it. others get bitchy. like SORRY i have one ear on the phone i CANNOT listen to two people at once!!#anyway. hope it was the cable that was fucked! we would of course fix whatever issue it was if it ISN'T#but it's soooo much easier for him for it to be just the cable he made himself. 'cos fuck homemade cat6 cables#(which i say as someone who has made SEVERAL and hates the process furiously)#also. shoutout to the customer who gave me 10/10 and said we were COOL PEOPLE in all caps :)#made my day that. like thank you!! i do my best to give the best customer service!!#and i only had ONE person call me today to be a glorified website :) usually it's at least three people :)#like we have a click and collect for a reason. i am NOT that. i can trouble shoot and help fix. i am not a website#also. why am i cursed. why am i cursed to be swarmed by people when i'm alone??#at least at my current workplace i am not harassed for being on my own. people are actually nice#they don't go ballistic on me when it takes me a but to get to them due to the tasks i am made to do#i don't get yelled at every shift. which is lovely :)#anyway. time for sleeps because i must write 3k tomorrow for my exam. rip

Oof. Wi-Fi ain't so good right now. Attempting to log in to Sky. I'm on, but the connection speed is super slow. So I might not be on for long. Will try logging in later if I have to.
Will post update if anything improves. The wildfires are messing up the cell towers. Hope people are okay, though. Stay safe out there!
#internet issues#Sky: Children of the Light#to be updated later#WOW scammers and unknown numbers can call me like it's nothing despite poor cell signal#My wi-fi comes from cell towers btw#We can't get them fancy cable internet thingamabobs

if there’s been one constant throughout my life it’s that no one knows antenna tv exists
#glad my parents knew bc i think cable would’ve rotted my brain#too many options#i like having 10 channels to choose from on a good signal day#and there’s always something i don’t have to think about#unfortunately half the time it’s a shitty cop show and i have seen all the episodes of them bc it’s all that’s on jdjsks

STAR WARS EPISODE II: Attack of the Clones 00:13:34
Something odd I noticed here: the rim of R2's lower body where his retractable leg comes out has some of the motion sensor lights superimposed on top of it. This should normally be in shadow, but it looks like the the VFX artists were a little too aggressive adding areas to block out for effects. Or, as several people pointed out on Twitter, it may be the model that Kenny Baker would normally be operating, with the the leg tubes painted over.

Did You Know The Phoenix Mercury Cannot Play A Normal Game Of Basket Ball ?
Celeste! Taylor!! 3 points, 5 rebounds, FIVE Steals!, One Block! [and maybe the most eventful free throw in a game of basket ball ever]
ppl yap about oh so and so loves their rookie the most da da da da... nobody loves their rookie like the merc love celeste taylor [did you see the hug when kiki made her second 3 between dt and celeste on the sideline? I did . they showed it 3 times. ]
bg getting ejected with rickea jackson? maybe the funniest thing all night/ season... right up there with the mtl/tor fights
bloodgate part 2? help
Tash Cloud with another points assists double double. and 2 steals!
FOUR! blocks from Natasha Mack!
we really can't talk about the DT -> BG plays enough. i know oh they've done it for 10 years with the merc, with usa, in russia, but we simply cannot talk about it enough
BG scored 14 points in 14 minutes, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks, shooting 87% on 8 fg attempts [that's 7/8]. All of the in the first half!!
monique 9 points, 3 rep, 1 block!
Kiki!!! 2 Clutch 3s, 60% from the field, 2 Steals
Sophie! filling that stat sheet: 14 points, 3 reb, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 block
our +/- queens of the evening: Celeste +11, DT, Tash Cloud +9, Monique +8, Sophie +6
ok let me say this: I don't like the conversations and I don't appreciate the chatter about everything [as previously mentioned i am in deep denial] BUT I appreciate the narratives, the conversations, that the commenters are having surrounding the appreciation for DT
and I appreciate that they got her to do the post game interview but You Don't Have to Bring It Up To Her Face Every Time [bring it up to everyone else. get the stories the admiration, etc. but not to her- like this is common sense i fear] and did we have to talk about the first half shots? because they weren't falling for anybody that first half.
that being said, the shots not falling in the first quarter was so funny [not as funny as the ejection but close]
nate won a challenge yay
everybody loves cam brink
overall a lot to improve but also: the defense, the effort, the end result!
#phoenix mercury#i need to take a moment to rant about cbs sports network. it is so inaccessible#like they think oh well everyone has cable so it's fine! not it's not! and it's only if you have cable in your house#but you can't get it through any cbs streaming so you have to get a vpn#and i deleted my old vpn to save space but that was the one that worked and now i can't get it back bc my computer can't update#so i was back and forth on the buffer all night#it got to the point where the replay was up on league pass before i finished the stream so i just watched there#and like i should be willing to pay for a vpn but it's just too much effort#and honestly the only reason i decided to watch this game besides everything is bc the last time we were on cbs sn and i watched#we beat the nyl so that was a good time#and on top of all of that the 10:30 start plus i swear they had an extra 10 minutes of stopped game for reviews on top of regular time outs#i really am thrilled about this result i was clapping my hands together so hard#i also do all the little hand signals like for possession and travel#not thrilled that we're playing minnesota first round but Hopefully Every Will Remember that we h*te Ch*ryl r**v* :)
