i guess i just never ended up caring about film as much as i wanted to. almost got there but i still barely know shit about it despite going to film school. if there was an accordant "music studies" academic program in the same vein as film studies i would be the king i think on the basis of spending so much of my life engaged with it but i just never cared about movies too much other than constantly wanting to be shocked / challenged / surprised, i dont really care if it's "Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles" or "Shredder Orpheus", just show me the money, basically...surprise me...whatever.

when i was a kid my favorite movie on the whole planet was 2012, the really shitty corny piece of crap disaster film from 2010, i watched it last night for the first time in about 10 years and realized how much of it i still have memorized like its a memory of something i personally lived through, and i still just like that kind of thing as much as anything else. im not really highbrow about it, i just thought i was highbrow for a minute when i was 19 because i really liked all the art films i was watching at college, but im not. i dont really care. my detachment used to feel impassioned like "im taking A STANCE against the cultural mainstream" but i really dont feel that way anymore. i just feel sort of marginal, and disinterested in the world around me in general. i feel like a marginal person and cant find common ground with anybody any easier than i ever could, but by the merit of no longer caring or getting fired up about that lack of common ground its not even an issue and i just try to be pleasant and useful to the people around me, i feel like a big loveable oaf simpleton anymore
