Drugs that are being used to halt puberty in gender-confused youth have been linked to thousands of adult deaths, government data show.
The Food & Drug Administration has recorded thousands of deaths associated with Lupron, a puberty-blocking drug that is routinely used to treat prostate cancer in men and endometriosis in women. Adverse complications related to its use include breast disorders, malignant neoplasms, and psychiatric and nervous disorders.
Lupron — and other drugs in its class — significantly alters the hormone levels in the body and has been documented to contribute to blood clots and other cardiovascular complications, as well as brittle bones and faulty joints.
Between 2012 and June 30 of this year, the FDA documented over 40,764 adverse reactions suffered by patients who took Leuprolide Acetate (Lupron), which is used as a hormone blocker. More than 25,500 reactions logged from 2014-2019 were considered "serious," including 6,370 deaths.
Lupron is being prescribed off-label for use in children who have been diagnosed with gender dysphoria despite the lack of formal FDA approval for that purpose. The drug is clinically approved for treatment of precocious puberty, a condition where children start their pubertal processes at an abnormally early age and the blocker is administered for a short time until the proper age.
"The first well-documented case report of a puberty blocker like Lupron (a similar medication called Triptorelin which has an identical mechanism of action) being used in a young patient with gender confusion was published out of Holland in 1998 where a pediatric endocrinologist, working together with a psychiatrist, decided to use the medication on a 13-year-old girl suffering from gender dysphoria," Michael Laidlaw, a Rocklin, California-based endocrinologist, told The Christian Post in a previous interview.
Reports have emerged in recent years showing that the pediatric version of the drug comes with few warnings about long-term side effects and leads to lasting and severe health problems.
When injected into a physically healthy body, the drug interrupts a normally-functioning endocrine system, yielding hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, according to Laidlaw.
“It’s a serious condition that endocrinologists would normally diagnose and treat because it interferes with development, but in [gender dysphoria] cases they’re inducing this disease state,” he said in an interview with the National Catholic Register.
In 2017, the FDA said it was "conducting a specific review of nervous system and psychiatric events in association with the use of GnRH agonists, [a class of drugs] including Lupron, in pediatric patients,” in response to questions from Kaiser Health News and Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting. The government agency was also reportedly reviewing seizures that stemmed from use of Lupron's pediatric version and other drugs in its class.
Transgender activists often promote such drugs as a "pause button" on life, giving young people additional time to decide whether to proceed to cross-sex hormones and surgical transition.
The therapeutic idea behind the use of Lupron for treatment of prostate cancer is that by inhibiting the flow of testosterone over the prostate and reducing it to a low, undetectable level, prostate cancer tissue is prevented from growing, Laidlaw told CP in a previous interview about the drug's dangers.
Unlike prostate cancer, a disease where the drug at least serves the purpose of targeting the malignant masses on the organ, Laidlaw said he knows of no psychological condition that is treated by putting hormones out of alignment from their normal levels.
"Gender dysphoria is not an endocrine condition, but is a psychological one and should, therefore, be treated with proper psychological care. But it becomes an endocrine condition once you start using puberty blockers and giving cross-sex hormones to kids," Laidlaw stressed at the time.
According to the annual report of AbbVie, the company that produces Lupron, sales of the drug were approximately $669 million in 2017 in the United States alone.
England's lone gender clinic, the Tavistock Centre in London, has come under scrutiny in recent months in part because of intensifying public concern about puberty blockers.
Kirsty Entwistle, who until last October was a staff psychologist at the Gender Identity Development Service in Leeds, accused Tavistock clinicians in July of misleading young patients, saying they were “making decisions that will have a major impact on children and young people’s bodies and lives ... without a robust evidence base" and said the facility had troubling internal practices.
Children and their families were being told that puberty-suppressing drugs used to transition youth were "fully reversible," when in fact the drugs' long-term effects remain unknown, she said, noting that an "unspoken rule" existed within the clinic — that clinicians were never to inform families that their children were not transgender.

SPEED DATING FAQ
There are few things that never change as we get older, and dating is one of them. St dating service in rocklin ca homes for sale. The thrills, disappointments and gut-wrenching passions of the dating world are ever-alluring, regardless of whether you are 20 or 50, and speed dating is just another way that you can get involved in this exciting past time. What is SpeedProvidence Dating & UK Style? SpeedProvidence Dating is imported directly from the UK. It is traditional Speed Dating with an English touch. A relaxed and comfortable approach to speed dating. Rewarding lovely daters with discounts and complimentary events while saying no thank you to anyone we don't think you'll fancy meeting.
Do the British Really Do it Better? Most speed dating parties are a bit like being at a college job fair. Complete with stop watches, whistles and a footie captain yelling “times up” in yer face! We at SpeedProvidence Dating, do things a wee bit differently. We don’t find anything romantic about name tags, microphones and whistles – so we don’t use them!
Do you have to be British to attend? Absolutely not! We are British founded and inspired but our daters are just like you.
What type of people can I expect to meet? We tend to draw a crowd that is intelligent and amusing, sophisticated and adventurous, while always being cheeky. Daters that don’t like to settle and tend to set the trend rather than follow it. We are in part defined by our venues and our crowd reflects such.
How do I reserve my place? Simply select the EVENT SCHEDULE tab on the homepage for a listing of our events. Simply register online and you're all set! No paper tickets are required. You will be sent a confirmation from us and your name will be noted on our Guest List.

Speed Dating Questions
Do you screen your speed daters? In the 14 years we have had the pleasure of serving daters we've noticed the nicer a dater is to us, our hosts and each other, the more matches they get. Much like a private club, not every dater is for us. Those that tend to see the good in everything and everyone - are just what we and our daters are looking for. If we don't think a dater is someone that fellow daters would get on with - we'll respectfully decline service and reserve the right to do so.
Are you affiliated with any 'Meet-Up' groups? We think 'Meet-Up' is a lovely free service that gives those of similar interests the opportunity to connect. We do question businesses that promote their events through 'Meet-Up' groups - only to redirect you to their own website. Some companies tout that they partner with many organizations including Craigslist offerings and 'Meet-Up' groups for their events. We do not. What happens if the event is sold out? We wish we could accommodate everyone! Unfortunately, the fun goes quick! You can email [email protected] for information as to the process of being added to the wait list. Also, it is a good idea to keep checking back on our website as sometimes reservations become available at the last minute. We are continually updating our event calendar.
What time should I show up for the Event? Published start times can be found in the event description. Please try to avoid doing anything unsafe in your attempt to arrive to the event on time - we do like to wait for all participants to arrive. This may cause an event to start late but we feel a perfect opportunity to chat up the hosts, have a lovely refreshment and settle in. There is no set start time for the speed dating portion of the night - we like to wait for all daters to arrive, settle in and grab a refreshment before the speed dating portion.
~~
What is a SpeedProvidence Dating ‘Date Mate’? A ‘Date-Mate’ means you have a match! You checked each other on your scorecards and your email address will be exchanged with this person 24 hours after the event. Only daters that garner matches are notified approx. 24 hours after the event.
How long will I chat with my Prospective ‘Date-Mate’? Chat up your prospective 'Date-Mates' 6-7 minutes at a time. Sometimes, for our larger events, this may be shortened by 1 or 2 minutes to accommodate all of the mini-dates in a timely fashion. The league dating app in silver firs wa.
So Little time; So much to say. Don’t worry. In today’s world we tend to know in a matter of minutes if we ‘click’ with someone. You can also chat further with your prospective ‘Date-Mate’ at intermission or mingle after the event. Just have fun and go with it! How will I know I have any SpeedProvidence ‘Date Mates’ and how do I contact my SpeedProvidence ‘Date-Mate’? For daters that garner matches, you will be notified via email of your ‘Date-Mate’s’ first name and email within 24 hours of the event ending. Your ‘Date-Mate’ will also receive your name and email.
Can I return for free if I don't get a match at an event? Unlike other speed dating companies that offer free spots to those that don't receive matches, we take a different approach to returning guests. Those that receive matches, are quite popular and absolutely lovely - are often invited back with discounts or with our compliments. This ensures a fabulous pool of daters that others want to meet.
~~
Is Food included with my SpeedProvidence Dating ticket price? From time to time venues may provide light nibbles for the guests. This is at the venue's discretion.
How long does a SpeedProvidence Dating event last? The length of an event is based on the number of daters in attendance. Generally, our events last about 2 hours including intermission.
What Happens when the Event is over? That‘s up to you! Most Daters say this is when the fun really starts! Feel free to stay and mingle for as long as you want.
I’m shy - Can I come with my Friends? Bring your friends, have some fun! Our hosts will gladly accommodate seating for all ticketed members of your party. If you would like to be seated together please let us know. We do ask all members of your party to email in themselves to reserve.
How Many People Will I Meet? SpeedProvidence Dating events vary in size, anywhere from 16 - 25 singles register for any given event.
~~
Can I pay without doing it through the Internet? Register/Info Payment can only be accepted through the website. We only accept payment via our secure and encrypted checkout systems. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us directly at 1-866-WE SPEED.
What Should I Wear? Well the British always like to dress it up. However, dress how you feel. No riff-raff please.
I Am Older or Younger than your age ranges – may I still attend? Of course you may. Our age ranges are merely suggestions. We offer many age range categories. Please feel free to select the age range most comfortable for you. If you don’t see a range suitable for you please check back or let us know.
Will I be photographed or filmed? You will absolutely not be photographed or filmed without your prior consent. While we and our daters are often called upon for special filmed events, they are scheduled as private events and are by invitation only.
What if I don't have the ability to act like a lady or gentleman? Oh dear - how unfortunate. We do have a zero tolerance for any rudeness - of any sort. We attract such great daters but find - as in life - not every dater is ideal. Our daters are also our product and we go to great lengths to ensure everyone meets lovely daters. We want the right daters not just any daters. Behavior short of lovely will result in a dater being banned from the company. This may upset some but we feel our daters as a whole appreciate the extra effort and we hope you do too.
Can you tell me more about your promotion for Cancer Awareness? We are super excited to announce our partnership with The Joan Gaeta Foundation for Lung Cancer Awareness. Our 'Night For Suzanne' is a great way to give back and have fun while doing it! Donate to the Joan Gaeta Foundation or any Cancer charity of your choice in the amount of your purchase - let us know you did - and we'll add you to the guest list of your desired event. It's that simple. For more information about the Joan Gaeta Foundation partnership, click here! For additional questions, feel free to contact us at [email protected]
There are few things that never change as we get older, and dating is one of them.
The thrills, disappointments and gut-wrenching passions of the dating world are ever-alluring, regardless of whether you are 20 or 50, and speed dating is just another way that you can get involved in this exciting past time.
When it comes to over 50s speed dating, there are ways you can increase your chances of success – just like more traditional forms of dating, and here are some of the ways that you can do just that.
Don’t Get Too Greedy
It is important to understand how over 50s speed dating works so that you know exactly how to tip the odds in your favour. After you have met with a certain number of potential dating candidates (remember, each encounter is timed), you will then tick a box next to their name if you are interested in seeing that person again.
If both parties tick the respective boxes, both will be provided with each other’s contact details. If only one person ticks the “I’m interested” box, neither will receive these contact details.
If you’ve received the details of a few potential dating partners, it might be tempting to line up dates on the same day, or even the same weekend, to increase your odds of meeting someone nice, but this is definitely not a good idea.
You see, groups of friends often sign up for over 50s speed dating together, and if you’ve obtained the details of a group of friends and lined them up for another semi-speed dating experience over a weekend, they won’t thank you for it – in fact, you might lose your chances with all of them.
Rather, organize one date at a time and see how it goes before you move onto the next candidate.
Write Out a Few Questions Beforehand
When you are in a speed dating scenario, you might feel pressured to come up with some great questions, and this often gets people tongue-tied. This sort of situation requires at least some preparation, so make sure that you think of a few questions beforehand.
Make them vague enough so that you can get a good feel for the person in front of you, but remember, this isn’t a job interview or an interrogation. Don’t get too personal – this might put someone off before you have even given them a chance to get to know you.
Follow the Rules
Speed Dating Near Me
When it comes to over 50s speed dating, the rules are there for a reason. Don’t try to gauge their address or phone number during the session, or you could end up coming across as too forward.
Speed Dating Praha
Remember, just like in the traditional dating world, sometimes you have to take the disappointments along with the successes.
Speed Dating Nyc
Speed dating can be a lot of fun and it is a great way to meet new people, make friends and develop potential, romantic relationships, but just like traditional dating, it is also essentially a “game”, and so it helps to know the rules.

Dune Rats Race To Top Of ARIA Chart With New Cd
Dune Rats Launch "Scott Environment-friendly" established out on their international rampage. Thurs sixth - Sator at the Peace as well as Love festival in Borlänge. The band went on at twelve o'clock at night. Chips and Michael drove from Stockholm, played as well as went back to Stockholm once more directly after the program. Heikki included a specifically charted private aircraft from Sundsvall where he had actually played a Lisa Miskovsky gig earlier the exact same night. Some really old songs were dug up once more. The extremely first Sator Codex title Buzz vill ut (Let me out) was played with Peo Ericsson on guitar. He was one of Sator Codex starting participants from 1981. Björn Clarin rejoined the band for another Sator Codex classic Leech. The entire show ended with a multi-guitar version of Turn off the information with above all The Nomads on additional guitars. A very enjoyable show certainly. It's unsubstantiated it's been 2 whole years since we heard a new Dune Rats song, yet it has been - time flies when you're smashing beugs like there's no tomorrow. However tomorrow is now today, and right here we are with a brand name spankin' brand-new Dunies single, Bullshit. Produced by FIDLAR frontman Zac Carper and also written while they were on trip with that said band in the States last year, it's an additional ear worm from the fun-loving trio. In normal Dune Rats design it is easily appealing, stuffed tighter than your preferred cone item with loafer beauty as well as hooky as crap. You don't also truly need to hear it to immediately have the ability to sing along to it. Dune Rats are signed to Ratbag Records, which makes sense offered they own it, as well. Dune Rats are what you see in meetings, fun dudes that like to laugh as well as fracture jokes. When I first satisfied them, I pitched an image concept for a picture we have not done yet. They loved the suggestion and while we have not taken that details image yet, me and also Dunies have been good friends since. I have actually seen them go from Big Sound act to arena band in just a couple of short years. I could not be better to work with such a genuine triad of guys. Australia's much-loved stoner pop band DUNE RATS have announced that they will certainly be returning to Canada this spring for a heading trip in support of their well-known sophomore LP The Children Will Know It's Bullshit. The 9-date tour begins in Toronto at The Great Hall on April 19 and consists of new looks in St. Catharines, Edmonton, Calgary, Banff and also Canmore. Tickets for the scenic tour will go on-sale this Friday March 10 at 10 am local time. For all confirmed excursion days and venue information, please see below. North Transmissions is a music internet site started for music lovers, by songs lovers. We feature interviews, album and live reviews from today's most influential independent bands and musicians. Northern Transmissions likewise includes music news from all over the world everyday. Unfortunately (or luckily?) there are no workshop recordings of any of Chips as well as Michael's first bands. Some lo-fi (closer to no-fi) rehearsal tapes still exists. Considering that the release of In A Million Years", the band have actually embarked on effective scenic tours including an offered out Australian scenic tour, executing their very first shows in the UK as well as Europe as well as coveted festival slots at events such as Area Day (UK), Reeperbahn (GER), Uniqueness In The Lawn, Falls Event, Groovin The Moo (AUS) and Java Rocklin' land (ID). Sat fourth - Sator in Motala at the exact same event as in 2015 and nearly the same bands too!. It seems like a half-baked Parquet Courts B-side that not also NME would certainly check out favourably. The singer for the Dune Rats overdoes it on the lo-fi singing, to the factor where it just sounds forced. Look guys, it was awesome when Julian Casablancas sung like that over a years back, in 2015 it's just a motto and also does not work in the slightest. The band have a negative practice Dune Rats of making every carolers stretch on constantly, repeating the same 5 words advertisement nauseum. Lola" is possibly the most awful offender, with Lola you do not need to sob" being duplicated over the same chord progression. Blind" does the specific same point, just this time around they mix it in with some uninteresting pop punk rhythm, simply to make it look like they're trying something various. Protip: upping the pace as well as changing the lyrics does not make a brand-new tune, Dune Rats.

Isaac Hinkle bought property along Big Gulch creek in 1885 and went on to become the Superintendent of the North Fork Ditch Company.
It was during a community meeting in support of the Hinkle Creek Nature Center and Trail that people asked, “Who was Hinkle?” The most prominent Hinkle I knew about was a reservoir at the San Juan Water District called the Hinkle Reservoir. Fred Kindle and I decided to research this Hinkle fellow to see how he, or she, might have been connected to the nature trail in the City of Folsom.
Native Americans In Big Gulch, Folsom
Before there were any Hinkle’s or Folsom’s there were Native Americans. They left an indelible mark of their long presence in the area with numerous grinding or milling holes in exposed granite slabs. Because the Hinkle Creek Nature Trail has not had recent maintenance as of 2019, the Native American grinding holes may be difficult to spot. I was able to expose a set of the bedrock mortar holes that I found.
Set of Native American milling or grinding bedrock mortar holes along the Hinkle Creek Nature Trail in Folsom, California.
Hinkle Creek is a deep ravine that opens up onto the American River from the north. The watershed for the creek is pretty small so before the advent of water ditches and suburban homes, the creek would be dry during the summer. The depth of the ravine along with the trees would make this a nice cool summer location that offered some protection from the elements during the winter.
Of course, any Native American residents in the area would have been quickly dislocated with the immigration of gold miners in 1849. As prospectors from all over the world descended on the American River searching for a location rich in placer gold, the ravine that opened up onto the American River, across from Negro Bar on the south side, was called Big Gulch. The name stuck and was noted on Doolittle’s map of gold fields in 1868.1
Gold Mining In Hinkle Creek
One miner who prospected at Big Gulch was B. N. Bugbey. In the spring of 1850 he mined at Big Gulch and then switched to the south side of the river to Negro Bar. He discussed his time mining at Big Gulch as a witness in the 1881 debris trial Sacramento vs. Gold Run Ditch and Mining Company.2 The placer gold at the interface of Big Gulch and the river was quickly exhausted and miners went further up the ravine to work dry diggings.3
By 1857 a collection of houses and barns dotted the rolling landscape directly to the east of Big Gulch and was called Ashland by 1860.4 In the mid-1850s the North Fork Ditch, which ran along the west side of the North Fork of the American River, extended delivery of water into the Big Gulch area for mining and agricultural purposes.5
1910 water canals map that is not completely accurate. It does depict the Slate Bar branch ditch of the North Fork Ditch Company delivering water into the Big Gulch area with holding ponds. The water was initially used for mining and also for crops and livestock. Russville was one of the earlier names for Ashland.
After the completion of the Sacramento Valley Railroad (SVRR) to Folsom a new railroad line called the California Central Railroad (CCRR) started construction from Folsom up to Lincoln. The CCRR built a large wooden trestle bridge over the American River just below and to the east of Ashland. They built another bridge over Big Gulch and cut a railroad bed on the south face of the bluff which is today’s Greenback Lane.
When Theodore Judah was designing the SVRR he was always looking for an economical way to get to the mining communities in Auburn and Grass Valley. The goal of the CCRR was to get to Marysville and then service the mines via along the Yuba and Feather Rivers. Merchants and miners in Auburn still wanted a rail line. In 1860 they were able to secure partial funding for a railroad from Ashland up to Auburn. This was called the Sacramento, Placer, and Nevada Railroad (SPNRR).
Railroad Line Up Hinkle Creek
Work on the SPNRR commenced in 1860 in Ashland and followed up the Big Gulch ravine. The SPNRR would wind its way up the low lying foothills through today’s Folsom Lake and up alongside Folsom-Auburn Road. It would stop far short of its destination in 1862 as funding dried up and the Central Pacific Railroad was on course to service Auburn from Sacramento.
1860s map depicting the route of the Sacramento, Placer, and Nevada Railroad up Big Gulch ravine that today is known as Hinkle Creek. The SPNRR operate between 1860 and 1862.
Isaac Hinkle Arrives In Ashland
Isaac Hinkle was 25 years old and working on his father’s farm in Indiana in 1880.6 His older brother Amos had left the farm for California and Isaac decided to follow him in 1881. By 1882 Isaac was a registered voter in Sacramento County’s Mississippi Township.7 In 1885 Isaac married Jessie Brown and would have a long marriage with Jessie for the next 48 years.8
Also in 1885 Isaac Hinkle would make his first land purchase. He bought land in the town of Ashland from John Cardwell who was a large owner of in the area for $850.9 Even though the land was within the Public Land Survey System of Townships and Ranges, the deed refers to original metes and bounds description before the 1865 official survey map.
In the Town of Ashland, Township of Mississippi commencing at a point on the picket fence of Main Street Ashland, midway between frame buildings of Mr. Latham and Hicks, running North 78 degrees East 16 chains and 19 links to a black oak tree. Being same land conveyed to Hugh McKean by George Little and wife recorded in book 66 of deeds, page 465 Sacramento County.10
Sacramento County had produced a map in 1885 showing some of the landowners of property in the county. George Little is listed as the property owner of land west of the town of Ashland. A subsequent deed in 1920 when Isaac Hinkle sold the property to the gentlemen Vincent, Wright, and Galloway it states the area was 8 acres11, but still refers to the original metes and bounds description of the property. Hinkle sold the property for $3,000.
1885 Sacramento County map showing George Little was a property owner along the Big Gulch creek west of Ashland. Isaac Hinkle bought most of the Little land from John Cardwell in 1885.
What is not entirely clear is how much of the property encompassed the Big Gulch drainage area. It does not seem that Isaac Hinkle was ever the primary owner of much the land we call Hinkle Creek today. However, he would become known as a large land owner and have influence over the North Fork Ditch that delivered water into Big Gulch.
By 1896 Isaac and Jessie had settled in the new Orange Vale Colony and he was employed by the North Fork Ditch as a water agent.12 In 1899 Isaac bought 160 acres. He acquired the East half of the Northeast quarter of section 23 and the West half of the Northwest quarter of section 24 in Township 10 North, Range 7 East for $1200.13 This property was 2 miles north of Ashland but strategically important for the North Fork Ditch. In 1902 he sold 15.4 acres of this property to the North Fork Ditch for a new reservoir.14 One of the conditions of the sale was that the land always be used for a reservoir. If the reservoir was ever abandoned, title would revert back to Isaac Hinkle. The North Fork Ditch reservoir now lies under the right wing dam of Folsom Dam. A new reservoir built for holding treated drinking water for the San Juan Water District was named after Isaac Hinkle.
The North Fork Ditch was a 22 mile long water canal that began on the North Fork of the American River and had its primary terminus in this location of the new reservoir. The North Fork Ditch had built Baldwin Dam and the Penstock Reservoir, north of Oak Avenue, to service the Orange Vale Colony and the growing communities of Fair Oaks and Citrus Heights. Because the North Fork Ditch delivery was primary through gravity flow, it was important to be able to control water flow for distribution and also to settle the mud out of the water.
1941 USGS Folsom quad map showing the North Fork Reservoir. Isaac Hinkle bought the property in 1899 and sold it to the NFD in 1902 for the construction of the reservoir.
Later in 1902 Isaac Hinkle would buy another 160 of land from Henry Hols for $10. This land was the Southeast quarter of section 23 in Township 10 North, Range 7 East.15 In 1907 Hinkle was made Superintendent of the North Fork Ditch Company.16 In 1908 Isaac would sell 10 acres of his property to Frank Spurgeon in the SE ¼ of section 23.17 A map of most of Isaac Hinkle’s property purchases is at the end of the post.
Perhaps on the relative success of the Orange Vale Colony, Isaac Hinkle became involve in the Inwood Colony. Like Orangevale, the Inwood Colony lots had access to water from the Slate Bar branch of the North Fork Ditch that ran down to Ashland. Isaac sold lots 4 and 5 in block 2, subdivision 1, of Inwood Colony to Emil Miller for $10.18 Part of Inwood Road today, west of Folsom-Auburn Road, is the remnant of the SPNRR and Inwood Colony.
The nearly 50 year old railroad bed of the SPNRR was still present through the area. And while the railroad was long gone, its reference point was not. It was a defining boundary feature in many of the deeds for the Inwood Colony.
All that portion of lots Number 4 and 5 in Block 2 of Subdivision 1 of the said Inwood Colony lying east of the old roadbed of the railroad running from Folsom, California, to Auburn Station, Placer County, California, as shown on map of said Inwood Colony on file in the office of the County Recorder of the County of Sacramento, State of California.19
Isaac Hinkle would buy another 480 acres north in section 13 and 14 in 1920.20 While tending to his North Fork Ditch Superintendent duties he was also farmer and rancher growing primary fruit trees on his property.21 He was part owner of Hinkle and Earl Fruit Company on land next to the American River across from the Folsom State Prison. This land was planted primarily in olive orchards.
Isaac Hinkle was active as a mortgage lender with his partner H. Clemensen who was also the Notary of Public on several of his land transactions. In 1927 Hinkle and Clemensen released a Deed of Trust back to Raymond Broder for his ranch land east of Folsom in the Natoma Township.22 Hinkle and Clemensen also lent money to the Orangevale Fruit Growers Exchange which they paid off in 1926.23
Hinkle’s Reservoir
Isaac Hinkle’s quiet demeanor and experience with property led him to be one of the original founders of the Bank of Folsom in 1910. He was also involved in the Methodist Episcopal Church, Rebekah Lodge No. 166, at Folsom, and the Folsom Encampment No. 24, I. O. O. F. Isaac and Jessie had three children. Only Henry survived into adulthood. 24 He retired from the North Fork Ditch in 1931.25 Isaac Hinkle died on June 1, 1933 and Jessie died in 1940. Both are buried in the Lakeside Memorial Cemetery in Folsom California.
1954 USGS quad map, the right wing dam of Folsom dam covered the North Fork Ditch Reservoir. A new reservoir for treated drinking water was constructed between the dam and Folsom-Auburn road and named after Isaac Hinkle.
I think Isaac Hinkle would be honored to have the Big Gulch creek and ravine named after him. From all accounts he was instrumental in the maintenance and expansion of the North Fork Ditch which delivered water into the area. The North Fork Ditch Company and its successor the San Juan Water District have been an important foundation for suburban growth in northeast Sacramento County. Without water the communities of Orangevale, Citrus Heights and Fair Oaks would have had their growth severely restricted in the early years of their formation.
Some would argue that Isaac Hinkle helped contribute to suburban sprawl with the availability of inexpensive water from the North Fork of the American River. Of course, during his tenure the focus was really on small family farms and ranches. Either way, a nature trail and center dedicated to preserving the history of Native Americans, early gold mining, water ditches, and a railroad line is eminently worthy of our community’s support. The Save Hinkle Creek organization is working to protect this historically rich resource. I believe Isaac Hinkle would lend his time and expertise to also preserve this little slice of property that is so historically important.

Sacramento developer Ethan Conrad '89 (Business Administration-Strategic Management) makes it a point to go to Hawaii three or four times a year. But only for three-day weekends, not longer. And he spends most of his traveling time working deals with his iPhone.
"You're just sitting there (on the plane), you might as well do something," Conrad says. "I'm not going to read the in-flight magazine."
That sort of focus on work is one reason Conrad—a boyish-looking 47-year-old—has emerged as one of the most active buyers of commercial properties in the country and now sits on a Sacramento real estate empire worth about $300 million.
In an economy where few other local people or investment companies are doing any deals, he's scooping up office, industrial and retail properties—driven, he says, by a desire to take advantage of a shrinking window of opportunity to buy real estate at still-depressed prices. His specialty: taking distressed, often vacant buildings, fixing them up and bringing in tenants.
"He takes a lot of cats and dogs and adds lipstick and makeup" along with more significant enhancements, turning them into high-quality real estate, says John Frisch, Sacramento regional director for brokerage firm Cornish & Carey Commercial Newmark Knight Frank.
It's a strategy he's followed since getting into the real estate business as a broker in 1989 – though his focus has shifted along with market trends, buying residential lots and homes when that sector was weakest, then moving back to commercial deals when they offered better returns.
Conrad, who grew up on a 32-acre ranch in Healdsburg and earned a business management degree at Sacramento State, made his first acquisition in 1995, while working as a commercial broker in the Sacramento office of Bishop Hawk Inc. He still owns that first building, on Fite Circle. Like most of his holdings, it's virtually 100 percent occupied.
He launched his own company—Ethan Conrad Properties—soon after and continued buying up buildings, then focused for a time on buying up residential lots, at one point acquiring about 900 new home lots from Ryland Homes for $4.4 million—about 6 percent of the amount that home builder had invested in the properties before opting to leave this market. Over the past three years, Conrad has returned to the commercial buildings market with a vengeance, acquiring 38 more buildings, including the specialized former Affymetrix plant in West Sacramento that he picked up last month for about $6 million.
That spate of deals recently landed Conrad at No. 14 on Real Capital Analytics' list of the nation's most active acquirers of retail buildings. And Conrad says he actually might be much higher on the list if deals made through "note purchases"—one of his specialties—were included.
The current Conrad portfolio: 76 commercial buildings, about 1,000 residential lots, and 20 single-family homes remaining from the 100 or so he acquired in foreclosure sales on the courthouse steps. Of the single-family market, he says the foreclosure market was excellent until publicity about easy money lured scores of "flippers" into the game.
"Once it hit the papers that you could make money there," he says, "the opportunity was gone."
(The one blemish on Hanson's track record is a hedge fund venture he joined five years ago that lost money and went into receivership. "I learned my lesson, which is to stick with investing in what you know and what you're good at," he says of that experience.)
Real-life Monopoly
Conrad does his deals while working staggering hours at his headquarters on National Drive, just northeast of Sleep Train Arena, with a staff of 17 people helping with acquisitions and leasing, including three personal assistants whose duties include typing the memos, emails, lease proposals and purchase offers that Conrad dictates into a hand-held tape recorder. The company also has about 40 construction people assigned to fix up Conrad's new acquisitions and maintain the others.
"It's sort of bizarre," Conrad says of the amount of tradespeople on his payroll. "I never thought I'd (own) a construction company."
Conrad's days normally start at about 8 a.m. and sometimes go until 10 or 11 at night – even on weekends.
He typically eats lunch at his desk. So do many employees who take advantage of the kitchen he stocks weekly with sandwich fixings, frozen meals and snacks. Every two weeks or so, he arranges for catered lunches to be brought in for the entire office staff.
His demanding schedule means short vacations and limited time with friends and family. (Conrad's 7-year-old daughter lives with her mother in Granite Bay, and his parents now live in Rocklin.) Conrad says he's OK with all that and is willing to delay a long-planned dream vacation in Europe so he can focus on what he regards as a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" to take advantage of depressed prices in the commercial real estate sector.
"I tell people, if I didn't make the most of this opportunity, I'd regret it for the rest of my life," he says.
Besides, he just seems to have a lot of fun in a job he likens to a "real world Monopoly game."
He's good at the game, friends and colleagues say, partly because he's nimble and unconventional, throwing in unusual incentives – such as furniture and signage – to land a desired tenant in one of his places.
"He's the most creative deal-maker in town," says Chris Strain, a Cushman & Wakefield broker who represents tenants in lease deals.
He's good, too, friends and critics agree, because he can be a pit bull in negotiations.
On building purchases, some say, he's more likely than most to "re-trade" – renegotiate the price on a deal after the start of escrow to account for deficiencies he discovers during his due diligence. And bargaining with him over rents and amenities can sometimes feel like a war, says Strain, who nonetheless considers Conrad a good friend.
At the end of some lease negotiations with Conrad, Strain says, "you're panting, sweating and your hands are on your knees."
Vacation deferred
In response to the "re-trading" rap, Conrad acknowledges that "the level of due diligence we do is (higher) than most buyers." But he says he wouldn't be closing 90 percent of the deals he takes into escrow if he was always asking for a haircut—broker parlance for a price reduction.
And he insists his main goal in all of his deals—purchases and lease deals—is to arrive at a win-win result that leads to future business.
Indeed, Conrad says he initially planned to be a lawyer when enrolling at Santa Rosa Junior College following high school, but switched to business at Sacramento State after concluding it generated more pleasant outcomes than law.
"In most legal situations, it's rare where you have two happy parties," he says. "In business, usually there are."
It was at Sacramento State that he got his first introduction to sales, working as an intern at a local Chevrolet and Toyota dealership. He says he learned some of the secrets of selling there – and was the top deal-maker for two of his three months on the job.
That didn't sit so well with some of the more experienced employees, he says with a laugh.
"They were saying, 'Who is this punk kid?' "
Also while at Sacramento State, he went through the demanding program that's offered by the Sacramento Entrepreneurship Academy.
"It was real world information," he says of the seminars taught by local business executives. "I got more out of it than everything in college."
So what's ahead for Conrad? He says he expects to continue adding to his commercial portfolio over the coming year. But he notes that prices are starting to rise and more companies – many of them large institutional players – are coming into the market and providing competition on deals.
For instance, he says he recently made an offer on a Raley's-anchored retail center in Folsom and expected to get it. Instead, he was "significantly overbid" on the property by a Southern California company. The looming end of the go-go market for so-called "value-added" properties doesn't seem to bother Conrad very much.

The city maintains the quaint charm of a small town but has seen big growth potential from families looking to settle into a city where they can raise their family in a tight-knit community. When we’re considering cities to build in one of our most important considerations is making sure our communities are in great school systems, and the Rocklin Unified School District is no exception.
