Fire and Ice have always been an iconic contrast. And it's one i've always liked, for some reason. The Snow Miser/Heat Miser song from Rankin-Bass regularly gets stuck in my head, and that's a testament both to good songwriting and a good contrast between characters. Iceman and the Human Torch, Captain Cold and Heatwave, Mister Freeze and Firefly, so many good pairings come from Fire and Ice. I tend to prefer the Ice powers myself, but that's just because winter is more appealing to me than summer.

Coldwave: I Ship It!

What made me ship it: The episode of LoT where Len explains how he and Mick have known each other since they were kids. Also that scene where Len lets Mick beat the shit out of him? *Chef''s kiss* (Yes, I realise that this probably says something about me that I don't want to address...)

My favourite thing: The Boss/Guard dog dynamic works so well for them. And when Mick thought he was cracking up, seeing Len's 'ghost'

Unpopular opinion: I don't know if it's an Unpopular one, but I really wish the show had let Mick have more of his comic qualities- being a smart dweeb.

Okay so don't mind me but this is just a quick rant about my fanfics and it's 4AM so if you see any grammar mistakes i'm sorry!!

The thing is that I started writing a Captain Cold x Captain Boomerang fanfic mainly because 1. I fucking love weird pairings and starting ship tags on Ao3 2. They both have "captain" in their name and were on the same teams TWICE!!! and I think that's funny 3. It's a smut and I may be sex-repulsed but it's just easy to write rarepair when it's a smut idk why.

And I recently finished the one-shot, nothing too large just a 2.000 word fic that still needs a lot of editing but I'm finally done with it but!!! I started this the past week, didnt had time to write about it and I was kinda stressed about that because I can write a lot of words in little time but I did not had the opportunity this time. And it wouldnt piss me off so bad if I also didnt had this Deadshot x Captain Boomerang fic idea as well!!!

Because I spent ALL this week thinking about my Deadshot x Captain Boomerang fic idea while I had my Captain Cold x Captain Boomerang fic looking directly into my soul whenever I opened Word because I already had everything structured and I just needed to write it. It certainly didnt help that I need to write for the riddlebird week and that I have like 4 coldwave fics in the oven. Idk I'm just a mess with my fanfics and if you can't tell yes I have ADHD!!!! Thank you for listening to my rant, now I hope I can post my Captain Cold x Captain Boomerang fic and start writing my Deadshot x Captain Boomerang one-shot and pray that I do not have more fic ideas because I really need to finish a lot of ideas and drabbles rn. My favorite rivalry: COLDFLASH COLDFLASH COLDFLASH like even when you don't look at them through the shipping lense they're so ridiculous

My favorite hatred/antipathy: Adrian & Oliver. god, that was so good.

My favorite potential relationship between characters who never talk in canon: Patty and Eddie!!!!!!! They would totally have hit it off. And also Zari Tarazi & Mary Hamilton - I have written fic about that. Same for Sin & Lita :)

I do ship it!

What made you ship it?

Definitely the fandom, lol. I admit I had not thought much about Coldflashwave as a ship until I started reading fic, especially nirejseki’s fics, which are a pure delight. In general I’d rather read about Coldflash about all else and I’m not much of a multishipper, but Mick is pretty much the only character that I give a pass to XD

What are your favorite things about the ship?

My favorite thing about Coldflashwave is that adding Barry to Coldwave is really what makes Coldwave work for me. At least in terms of them NOT imploding. I feel like Len and Mick are so painfully emotionally stunted and their relationship is so volatile that they kinda need a third party to balance them out.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Yeah, I hate that so many Coldflashwave fics are just “Barry is completely submissive to Mick and Len and lets them do anything to him, the end.” That’s probably the most boring iteration of this ship to me.

so disclaimer that im only about 5 eps into s2 so i haven't seen that much of Lena yet but i already think they have incredibly good chemistry and i can see why the ship is so popular. so we'll see how obsessed i get as the show goes on haha. i'm interested to see how that relationship develops over time...

also fun fact: i once read a 200k supercorp fic before i'd even seen the show cos i was in the mood to read an f/f fic and i was like well i know there'll be a lot to choose from because the supercorp fandom is huuuge. it was an AU so my lack of knowledge didnt hinder me. it was a very good fic tbf.

i will say that currently supercat has my top billing for my favourite supergirl ship but again, time will tell if that changes... sigh. cat grant i miss you already, love of my life

i go sooo back and forth with this one. i usually fall in the camp of "they're soulmates/family/incredibly important to each other but it isn't romantic or sexual." but then sometimes im like "well they're obviously divorced." and i once made a post that was like "yeah they've fucked before but it was a needs must situation, and they made zero eye contact and never mentioned it again" and i think that sums up most of my feelings on the situation lmaoo. either way i am obsessed with whatever the fuck they have going on.

i usually have more interest in them in a platonic sense but im not opposed to romantic interpretations.

i don't think i've ever read a fic that was straight-up coldwave without a third (usually barry) to act as a kind of buffer but maybe i should because there's SO much to unpack there.

Well, I was thinking I could write a Sara/Len/Mick fic for the Criminal 4 Criminal 4 Criminal prompt

And realized that I just don't vibe with Sara/Len at all and really only like Sara & Mick

I do love Coldwave though so maybe if I can think of another criminal who'd fit well with them as a ship then it'll give me an idea for that bingo square

Catching up a little bit on your blog, and I feel like a fraud not knowing one of the reasons Wentworth left was because of Snart’s relationship with Sara, because I hardcore hyper-fixated on Legends and Wentworth when it was airing. That also makes me upset for many reasons now.

But I also wanted to mention during that time period of my hyper-fixation, I never shipped ColdWave until I watched an edit on YouTube with Running Up That Hill as the song. So. Thought I’d add my random ColdWave moment to the Hozier anon’s.

I mean in your defense i also thought this was like publicly available knowledge that you could find at your local library so i guess in a lot of ways we're the opposite ends of this but ANYWAY

The thing about coldwave is if it's a song about losing someone you love or fighting to stay in a toxic romantic relationship that's them. And it turns out there's a lot of music about that so

Sorry it took me quite some time. My head is a mess and I hope my rambling make sense.

COLDFLASH

Coldflash suddenly walked into my life one day and just… never left. 

I heard that Arrowverse's shows were piles of burning shit, “never watch any of them”, “arrow started good but”, “the flash is soo dumb”. And I just shrugged and proceeded with my life. Until I stumbled on coldflash. I think it was a fic? Maybe a crossover because I rarely read unfamiliar fandoms. 

The next thing I remember was binge watching Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends. One can’t just watch one show, okay? I watched it all, cried for Len’s unfair ending and went to go through the whole ship tag xD (which I did. i may have started before i finished my catch up with the shows but who cares?)

Aside from my fixation, coldflash just works magic for me. It has everything I love about pairings. Chemistry? Check. Ability to work together? Check. Banter? Check. Same core values? Check. Age gap? Check. Sunshine and emotionally constipated? Check. “Leave him for his own good” vibes? Check. 

Coldflash suddenly became not just a ship. It became the ship. It became OTP. I was multishipper for most of my life and it was a strange new feeling. I tried to read other ships with Barry and my brain just went NOPE. Same with Len.

Now I’m more open to other ships with Barry but I can’t read fics with Len if he has no relationships with Barry. There must be something. There is always something. 

I don’t think I can voice better than this quote tbh:

COLDWAVE

It’s interesting, I see how and why it’s working. But… I’m not into it. I love both Len and Mick and I like their partnership. I like how Len looks after Mick. That they have history together. But my stupid brain is like “oh, Len’s here, Mick’s here, where is Barry? Barry should come in right about now”. So yeah. I love it though when coldwave acts like a parental figures for Barry. I saw it once, I think? I would like to read more fics with this dynamic.

Won’t lie it took me some time to see how wonderful this ship can be. How much I can love their collective dynamic. How silly and joyful they can be written together. I’m always hesitant about reading ot3. I hate love triangles. And was afraid that ot3 will be about a love triangle until they resolve all their issues and meet on the same page. Yada yada. Surely there are fics like that out there, but I found much more great stories about ot3s just navigating their own relationships, learning how to communicate and being together without envy and jealousy among them. So coldflashwave is like a blessing to my stupid messy heart. It gives so much joy! And I still have a ship tag to go through 👀
